A woman came out and I asked if I could wait until 4; after saying I made an appointment for 3:20, then 3:40 but was told both times she was wrong. She then placed me in a room and shut the door. Came here with the use of my classpass and I was so glad to have found this place! The rooms were clean and simple. I like how it was warming before I came in, so that I wouldn't be cold. My massage therapist was amazing!! He (sorry I forgot his name) was very thorough and got all of my troubled areas. He also gave me my entire full 60 minute session and did not beat around the clock like other places I've been to. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family! Went here for a last minute couple massage for me and my boyfriend. I was going to get the deal from Groupon but they actually offer the same price. So, we went there a little bit early and we waited for almost 10 minutes. It was pretty quiet since it was kind of late at night like at seven or almost 7. My appointment was at 7:30 but I wanted to give them enough time in case. We waited and someone came in just in time for the appointment we booked. It was pretty quiet in there but it's also cozy. There are couches in the area that you can sit. There is also complementary water for the guests. Not that much employees in there tho. Just the masseuse and when they have people nobody was in the front which was ok with me. They finally came out and the guy was pretty friendly. They set up the room for me and my boyfriend then started the massage after a few minutes. They did a good job and it was also a good deal for a couple massage. My wife and I were in Boston on vacation and found a groupon for a Swedish massage with reflexology and aromatherapy. We have had countless massages before, so we knew what it should feel like. Let me start by saying the staff was very nice and courteous, but man did they talk. The two girls who did our massages didn't stop talking to us and each other the entire time. Question after question, swearing and being loud the entire time. It was a very stressful and not relaxing at all. The actual massages were worse. First they started with no oil, basically just pressing their fingers into our skin, pinching at some points. They didn't stay in one spot for more than 10 seconds; moving from the shoulder, to my fingers, to my feet, all with the pressure that you would massage a newborn baby. Finally about 15 minutes into it my "therapist" said "here comes the oil!" as if this is a special part of the massage. They were both bragging the entire time about how good they are, how they've been doing this for years, blah, blah, blah. There was no pressure and no relief from this "massage". My 2 year old son has done a better job rubbing my back. Oh and the "aromatherapy"? One of the girls just brings over a bottle of oil or something and says "sniff. Sniff". And that was my aromatherapy. Needless to say, when my wife and I get back home, we're going for a proper massage. Don't waste your money, go someplace else. read more

Starting with the plus's first. The place was clean. The gentleman that worked on me during our couples massage was good for what he did. That is about it: My husband is new to massage and so I figured as my usual masseuse didn't do couples I'd try a groupon. The woman who did his back muttered the entire time, trying to talk and make conversation but didn't ask if things were to rough/not enough pressure, and excused herself 2-3 times for several minutes and then didn't make up for it upon her return. Cutting the massage down to maybe 40-45 minutes. THEN and the biggest kicker for me was she was slamming her elbow into his back, not a slow ease in of the elbow and gently rolling it to work out a knot, but slamming it down hard enough that he now has a lump and bruising three days later. It was my 2nd massage experience. It's Like a hidden place, you have to walk upstairs. There were street parking outside. I felt like the place was very nice with the candles and very clean. The massage therapists were very professional. He knew where I needed most help. I felt really sore that day, so I told him to do it harder if possible and it made me feel so relaxed. Now that I have been a steady customer of Sea Spa for 3 years now, I can honestly say, my search for a massage place has ended. Gone are the days of me looking for massage specials on Groupon or Living Social to test out a new place. I have finally found a home! Nelson is outstanding! He really knows his stuff and we are the beneficiary of a more balanced and healthy body as a result. The place is beautifully decorated and as soon as you make it up the stairs, it's like you can exhale and begin your relaxation! I'm a type A planner for everything except me, so I fully appreciate that I can get an appointment when needed just by a simple phone call. Booked a last minute couples massage which they said they honored the Groupon pricing instead of purchasing ahead of time. Upon entry we were not greeted but rather glared at and told by the woman that she wasn't feeling good today and that we can sit down as she texted. The man that did my massage was quiet and did a good job but I have nothing to compare as it was my first massage. The woman that massaged my husband just talked on and on and on about her life. He also felt like she rushed around and was just copying my masseuse. The Groupon that was being honored including reflexology however this didn't happen so I was disappointed. If I could give this establishment zero stars, I would. There was absolutely nothing that was even relatively close to being enjoyable during my visit to Sea Spa. My boyfriend brought me here for a couples massage. I've had a great range of experiences from the dozens of massages I have gotten throughout my life and NONE of them have come close to how awful of an experience this was. When we got there, we were never formally greeted or checked in by the lady at the front desk. We weren't even asked to fill out a form of any sort which I find pretty normal as a new client at other spas. My boyfriend and I went to the bathroom before we were escorted to our room. We were instructed to remove our clothes and then lay facing down. It was about 10 minutes later that our two massage therapists walked in... I was introduced to my female massage therapist, Susie. Not only did she start abruptly, but she was extremely aggressive. She was throwing her hands into my body with her whole body. For the 20 minutes afterwards, she started to poke, pinch and rub my upper back area with her bare hands. She did not use any massage oil. I kid you not when I say I felt like they had a massage therapist call out and asked a random person on the street to give me a massage. There is NO WAY she was a licensed massage therapist! Oh, not to mention... She talked a lot. She asked me about the weather, my job... Pretty much anything and everything that was irrelevant to my massage. When she wasn't talking to me, she was murmuring to herself the whole entire time. I was so annoyed that I considered getting up and leaving, but I didn't want to ruin my boyfriend's massage if he was having a better experience than I was having. After that, she finally walked across to the other side of the room to grab a bottle of oil. She poured so much oil onto her hands that I felt drips of oil on the back of my neck as she carried her hands towards my back. The amount of oil she used on me was disgusting. As she proceeded to work on my legs and feet, she brought the bottle of oil with her and threw it between my legs. Are you serious? At this point, I was practically having an anxiety attack and was definitely not feeling relaxed. All I wanted was this to end. She used warm towels to clean the massage oil, but those became cold really quickly, which was quite miserable considering how cold the room was. When it finally ended, my boyfriend and I walked to the front desk and she asked us if we wanted to tip using a card or cash. I really cannot believe she was asking us for a tip because I now felt pressured to do so even though I didn't think she deserved to even be paid for the service. This whole experience makes me cringe. I will never be back and I hope this establishment shuts down. read more

Extremely impressed by this wonderful new spa in the heart of Medford Square. I am very wary of trying new places since you never know what you will get...but, I was beyond pleasantly surprised at Sea Spa. I did have a groupon for a one hour foot treatment which consisted of reflexology, a foot scrub and soak. It was HEAVENLY! I had just gotten back from a week's vacation at the Cape with my family. The day I got back I probably walked 10 miles around Boston since it was so gorgeous out. I woke up the next day with such tight calves and sore feet that I knew Sea Spa would be my oasis for the afternoon. I called for an appointment and about an hour later my feet were in the hands of Yang one of the co-owners of Sea Spa. On first arrival, I noticed just how pleasant and inviting the sitting area is. First, you will walk up a flight of stairs and at the top of the stairs is the check in desk. Yang had me follow him to the room where my service was to take place. First, I skipped to the loo and made note that it was very clean (a bonus). So many places I've gone fail to overlook the cleanliness of a bathroom, and this place was definitely cleaned well. There are two chairs in the room and they were really comfy, like the kind of comfy chair your grandparents would have in their living room. There was quiet and calm music playing softly and a few sweet smelling votive candles. Yang brought out a tall wooden barrel/bucket lined with plastic - most hygenic! He then had me soak my feet for about 10 minutes. Then the reflexology began. IT WAS EXCELLENT! Yang has been doing massages for years and is quite skilled. I felt so relaxed and my feet and legs felt the same! Finally, it was time for the sugar scrub. All the dead skin just came right off and then my legs and feet felt like new! I was so happy and relaxed for the rest of the day and slept so well! Yang was nice to talk to and I could tell is very passionate about being a licensed massage therapist. These guys just opened two blocks down from my BJJ school. They took me as a walk-in (well, more like a wobble-in, given the state I was in this afternoon) for a 1-hr massage. Sometimes, when you go to a massage spa and ask for help with sports issues or chronic injuries, you'll get a nice, relaxing massage, but nothing that really directly addresses whatever damage you've done picking things up or getting thrown around yourself. Yang at Sea Spa really rose to the occasion. He asked me what was bugging me the most; he walked me through what he was doing as he was doing it; and all in all, I had a damn fine massage. AFTER buying Groupon's couple special and making the appointment, I read the yelp reviews, and my heart sank. There were too many negative comments posted. Friday night at 6:30 we went to the spa, kind of dejected and expecting disappointment. Well...WE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG! Upon arrival, we were pleasantly greeted and directed to have a seat in a very comfortable waiting area. Within minutes we were taken to the massage room. The door opened into a clean and inviting area, where soft piano music and wonderful warmth filled the room. When we were ready, two ladies came in, and without any words just started working on us. As strong, yet gentle massaging began on my back, I began to relax. There was no chit-chatting going on between the women. They were completely focused on us. The only sound in the room was the peaceful music. Eventually some warm oil massage was done, and I think I felt a hot stone gliding up and down my back, which felt amazing! Hot towels were a nice surprise, too. In addition to massage, gentle stretching was directed to my back, arms and legs. I am 62, overweight, and out-of-shape, and yet I felt at ease as muscles I probably never use were being twisted and pulled and rubbed. I honestly felt like I was being worked on by a machine. I didn't feel hands or elbows pushing at me...everything felt like a smooth, warm roller gliding over my skin. The masseuse did not neglect my ankles or feet, and it all finally ended with a bit of attention and pressure to my forehead. We had been treated to a solid hour of heaven, peace, and comfort, and we were so completely relaxed. How relaxed? We could barely get ourselves dressed and I refused to even attempt to get my bra back on. We felt wonderful - like stoned noodles leaving the room. Anna and Paule had been our masseuses, and both my husband and I were beyond satisfied with their attentive massages. For the rest of the evening both of us were just useless haha. And here is the best testimonial Sea Spa will probably ever get: After arriving home, I found my big bull of a husband crashed out on the sofa.....on a Friday night.....watching..... a Hallmark channel Christmas movie! As for me, I will have to return to Sea Spa to retrieve my forgotten bra. Bottom line: This was a wonderful experience that we will definitely treat ourselves to again. :) read more

This place is a hidden gem in Medford Square! It's sooooo much better than another place I tried in Medford earlier this summer. I went in with a stiff neck and knots between my shoulder blades. My lower back was also sore, but I asked the masseuse to concentrate on my neck and upper back. He started off light, but eventually started digging into these knots. I could feel them loosening up as he progressed. After I figured my hour was up and that he would leave the room, he worked for a while on my lower back. I was quite impressed that he remembered because I was mainly complaining about my neck. I wasn't sure what to expect when I approaced from the outside, but once I got in there, it was clear that this was a professional establishment. I'll be back!! read more

I've been to Sea Spa twice. I heard about them through my manicurist whose customers also go to Sea Spa. My first visit was good. The massage therapist was above average. Nothing special, but she did the trick for the cost of my Groupon. I decided to visit this place again because they had a special: 75 minute massage for $59. Unfortunately, this experience was one of the WORST massage therapy experiences of MY LIFE. It's worth noting that I get massages regularly (once every 4-6 weeks, and more frequently if possible). The massage therapist was not very experienced. She talked during the entire service. I asked her not to, but she continued. This ensured that I would not be able to relax during my session. In addition, she didn't listen to my instructions. I have a couple of injured toes on my left foot, and I asked her to avoid any contact with my left foot. She ignored me. I was in so much pain and that pain carried through the entire rest of the session and into the next day. I was also put in some uncomfortable positions during my massage. When I told her I was uncomfortable, she didn't listen and continued on with the massage. I was so annoyed by the entire experience. I spoke with the manager and he did nothing about it. He offered zero consolation. I paid for my service and tipped the therapist 20% despite the fact that it was such a miserable and awful experience for me. Management needs to pay attention it its customers. These people simply do not care! The manager's attitude was lax and nonchalant. It didn't matter to him that I had a horrific experience. As a customer, this was worse than the massage itself. It's not how a business should be run. Customer satisfaction is not a priority for Sea Spa and this alone will negatively impact their business. Aside from the BAD SERVICE, the environment is somewhat dingy, but you get what you pay for. The massage rooms are bare minimum: a massage table in a hollow room without any amenities. There's a very loud clock ticking in the room. The rooms are cold and gray. Very depressing. This is probably how they keep prices relatively low. The spa is on a busy street in Medford Sq. Depending on which room you get will determine how much street noise you will hear. Prices may bring you in, but the horrible service will keep you from coming back. Buyer beware!!! read more

This is probably the worst massage and service I've ever had - and keep in mind that I'm a very easy going person, typically a little bad service doesn't bother me. HOWEVER, this place.. I went with a friend and we did couples massage. The moment we laid down on the massage bed, the employees were talking price and trying to quote us a higher rate than what was listed on their wall price list in their waiting area. Ten minutes into the massage they brought it up again and urged us to use cash vs. card plus leave a tip. They mentioned leaving a tip a dozen times. At that point I was ready to get up even though we had just started the massage but I was naked so I figured, let's just finish this and get the hell out of here. When it came time to pay, they asked me how to work THEIR credit card machine. After processing the payment once, they tried to get me to give them my card again, despite me showing them that it was already on hold in my credit card app. They called their boss and had me speak to them on the phone. I had to take a screenshot of the hold on my credit card and txt it to them. They originally wanted to take a picture of my actual credit card. How humiliating. Unprofessional isn't even the word. I've been to China several times and I've always enjoyed the foot massages: the big comfortable chairs, the foot soaking, the pampering. My girlfriend just found out about this place; it's been open about a month. We want after dinner and had a couples' foot massage. They have the traditional chairs and the two guys definitely knew what they were doing. It was very relaxing and the guys were pleasant to talk with. The staff is very friendly however I don't feel like the massage was money well spent. I purchased a couples massage for me and my boyfriend and we both felt like there were things we didn't like. The woman who massaged me (Susie/Suzy) talked ALOT and it was hard to just relax with her making so many comments. She started really abruptly and I felt like she was pushing my body aggressively. That was very annoying. She also only really massaged my left side but slacked when she went over to my right side. My boyfriend had the same experience with his massage therapist. My massage is suppose to have a focus on the feet, which she literally spent like a minute or two on each foot and did a little rubbing. At the end when leaving, she sat at the receptionist desk as the receptionist said "usually people leave a tip" which I found to be very tacky. I got the 60 min massage - I told my masseuse Sophia, i had serious knots between my neck and shoulders. She put a lot of pressure on the knots during the massage which HURT to the point where I was cringing in the anticipation of the pain. I almost cried. I think that if you are looking for a gentle massage, she is not the lady for you, unless you emphatically specify what you want. I can say that my knots are still there, but they hurt less (it has been over a week since i have gone). 2 days after the massage, i had a tightness in my knee that made me panic, but that has gone away. I also had some bruising. I think all the massage, stretching, etc. that you go through during the 60 min treatment must realign your joints or something, because my knee didnt get better for another day or so afterwards. So if you want a SERIOUS massage to treat muscle injuries/knots, this is probably the place for you. Also, if you like Chinese massage this will be great. Ok, I don't log into my Yelp often, but I had five stars burning a hole in my pocket after walking out of my first appointment here. And they're all for Sea Spa! Awhile back I bought the Groupon they offered for a 60min foot reflexology session. I usually go to another place closer to my job for this sort of thing, because it's how I like to treat myself after working for 7...8...9...sometimes 10 days in a row. On my feet. Ow. Such is the life of a hospitality professional, I guess. Anyway, I had almost forgotten about this Groupon and I'm so glad they could squeeze me in a couple days before it expired, because this experience definitely convinced me that this is worth the extra bus ride. My appointment was with Yen, the friendly LMT who just gave me the best foot reflexology appt of my life. Not only was the service great, but the place was clean, comfy, and quiet. I find myself hoping a get scheduled for another long stretch soon so I have an excuse to go back really soon! Bonus note: They also seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor about the weird guy who keeps posting the bizarre pictures and sketchy reviews on their Yelp page, so kudos to them for being able to laugh about it. read more

I had an hour-long foot treatment, with a foot bath, foot scrub, and reflexology treatment. It was quite enjoyable! Sea Spa is on the second floor of a small complex in Medford. There is 2 hour street parking as well as 1 hour street parking. Patrons can also apparently park in the lot of a nearby store. So should you need parking: no problem. The space is quite nice. The chair was comfy and there was relaxing music playing during my visit. I appreciated the staff's efforts to make me comfortable, which included bringing me a glass of water and opening the curtains to give me more light (I brought a book to read!). The treatment went exactly as described, complete with an exfoliating scrub, a type of foot soak in tea water (no soap), and a reflexology massage (lower legs + feet) with oil. My only complaint is that I had some sensitivity during the reflexology treatment (my feet were sore), but the staff was attentive when I told them. [Also just a note that as there is no soap in the foot soak, this treatment doesn't clean your feet like a soak before a pedicure would. A quick wash might actually be a good and easy addition at the treatment's beginning!] This spa seems to offer great specials on other treatments, like massages, which also can include other treatments (like reflexology). The overall experience was disappointing, I read the reviews on here before I came and they looked pretty promising. I'm not sure if it was because I purchased an Amazon local coupon to try it out, but was disappointed. I purchased a 60 minute massage on the day of and was able to get a same day appointment. They were running a little late which I didn't think was a big deal. What I have a problem with is when you pay for a 60 minute massage and it turns out to be around 40 minutes including changing in the room and massage. When I walked out I asked how long it was and she agreed it wasn't an hour. I asked why it wasn't an hour and she said because I have another appointment and we started late. Typically at any place under these circumstances you finish what the customer paid for. It was one of the worst excuses that I've either heard. Hit or Miss for sure. Location: It was very hot in there (85 degrees today and no ventilation whatsoever inside). There were a couple windows open which led to tons of traffic noise from outside. It was impossible to relax as folks in Medford center were honking horns and talking loudly. Not to mention the delight of smog during a massage. Massage: Alyssa is a delight. She did a wonderful job and used up every minute of the hour working my muscles. It is unfortunate she works at this place because I really liked her but will not go back. She really should go somewhere else that doesn't scare customers away. The other gentleman that works at the front desk is just terrible!!! He had NO IDEA what he was doing and ended up doing damage to my back. He talked the entire time and when he wasting talking he was sucking in snot from his nose. If he was sick or recovering he should not have been touching anyone. Along with talking the entire time I asked for a full body and he just did portions of my back. And like I said before, he did more damage than anything. I am in pain and very annoyed. It was a total waste of money and time. I am very surprised that this place gets 4 stars on yelp, but it could be because of their massages, I didn't even get to that point. They're not flexible and not understanding. We couldn't make it in because we were travelling back to boston and they never told us about the 24 hour cancellation (I talked to this guy at least 5 times and he never thought to tell me this piece of information). We were flexible with them last week when they called and said there was one worker called in sick so we had to move or reschedule our appointment, so we did, and now they can't reschedule ours. They don't know how to maintain customers then that will hurt them in the long run, this is exactly why places like this don't survive long in the market. read more

If you're using a Groupon, beware. They make pennies off Groupon and they'll treat you equally as such: penny customer service. Nelson (the owner) and Groupons do not mix. Don't even try. My previous experience (a birthday gift) was so great, I wanted my husband to try Nelson. I booked a Groupon appointment for my husband tonight, talked to Nelson TWICE and mentioned that I had a Groupon. He said nothing about it and proceeded to book the appointment. I confirmed TWICE with Nelson that my husband would be getting the massage specifically with him. Confirmed TWICE. We showed up tonight for our appointment and we got the old switcharoo! Went something like this: Nelson: I don't take Groupons clients. I have my own clients. Here's someone else. Me: I called and confirmed it TWICE with YOU. Nelson: I know, but I have my own clients, and MY CLIENT JUST CALLED ME LAST NIGHT to book with me, so I don't can't do your Groupon. Me: (In my head: &#$&^#$*!%) You've had so many days, including today, to tell me this! You could have called me and told me not to come in. I booked my appointment with you LAST WEEK and I mentioned that I had the Groupon and that this was my husband's first time using a Groupon! You allowed us to come here, for my husband to leave work early, just for you to say that your full paying client called LAST NIGHT, so you're not taking our Groupon appointment, the one I booked LAST WEEK with YOU?? Nelson: Yes, I know, but we don't make any money off of Groupon. You know, we make nothing off of Groupon. We left. Completely unacceptable.
