When we asked if the coconut one came with coconut shavings, they just said "I don't know". I had to really press and ask if we could get another employee before Dani finally looked it up on the tablet and confirmed the ingredients. Then, Xio brought out the two drinks. One was dairy and one was non dairy and Xio seemed confused about which was which. When we tried to clarify which was which, Xio was rude and said "I'm aware. I'm aware". Came to Serendipity 3 purely for the nostalgia -- my friend and I had to check off the bucket-list spot from the movie Serendipity (the one with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale). Overwhelming spice, oddly gritty texture, and way too sweet even for dessert lovers. On a trip to NYC for my daughter's 13th birthday we went to Serendipity3 for the World Famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. We had a reservation at the Times Square location. We were going just for dessert and decided to order the Truffle Parmesan Fries too. The restaurant is very bright and has lots of bold colors. There is a disco ball ceiling in the main dining room, which is fun. To get to the main dining room you walk down a hall way that has small intimate booths on the left and the right. I wish we had one of those booths, our experience might have been a lot different. We were sat in the main dining room at the very end of a long booth. It felt like they added a small table where it didn't belong. My daughter sat in the booth and I was in the chair across from her. My chair was clearly in the way of the servers getting to the other tables. I was constantly getting bumped. It was raining outside so I had a rain jacket on my chair that must have fallen off at least 5 times. The main dining room is also very loud. I think it was a combination of the acoustics in the room and it being very busy but it was hard to have a conversation. It was also very hot. A lady came around taking pictures and tired to get you to buy them as a souvenir. I get it, it's New York, Time Square location, it's a tourist place...but don't act annoyed when we say no. We came for a birthday dessert and don't want to be shamed because we didn't buy a photograph. That bugged me that the lady acted frustrated with us. Thankful the Frozen Hot Chocolate was fun. We went with the original, but they do have 13 different flavors of the Frozen Hot Chocolate and tons of other desserts. The Truffle Parm Fries came out slightly burnt, but they still tasted okay. My daughter was dipping them into the frozen hot chocolate which made her happy and that's all the mattered. Three stars - Okay After dinner, we went to Serendipity 3. The restaurant is in a great location, close to Times Square, and it is open late. My favorite part of the restaurant is the decor. It is an explosion of color and designs, making it a unique experience. Our server was friendly. There are a lot of options on the menu, but we stuck with the ice cream. It was okay, but there could be other great options on the menu that we did not try. They do have a variety of flavors. Again, I think the primary appeal of this restaurant is the location and the decor. I don't know if I would go out of my way to eat here again if I were in NYC, though. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant. It's so girly and just so pretty on the inside but the food and drinks are incredible. The music is also a vibe. I got a unicorn hot chocolate and it's the best hot chocolate I've ever had! It even had marshmallows and glitter on it. We decided to try this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation which is not recommended unless you have small party and can afford to wait a bit. The restaurant is cute with fun chandeliers and art on the walls. We asked the servers for food recommendations and the truffle burger was their favorite. The burger was nicely cooked and had a nice helping of truffle shavings on top. We also ordered the Monet salad with chicken, it was nicely prepared and left us very satisfied. The kids grilled cheese was very cheesy and got a thumbs up from our kid. People were very nice, but the food? Nope. Everything in Times Square is expensive so obviously the sticker shock will hit you, but you came to the busiest spot in NYC so that's a given. That said, was thinking my $28 burger would be good. It was not. I ordered the veggie burger and it was a Costco black bean patty and the bun appeared to be gluten free? So dry and gross, I removed the whole thing. Fries were fine, not amazing. Kids Mac and cheese was fine. Pizza burger was also mediocre. The best thing we ordered was the chicken sundae. It took forever and came out 10 minutes after the rest of our food and while they apologized, they didn't even throw us a free scoop of ice cream or anything. Not delicious but we did leave full. Food was so underwhelming we didn't even bother with $30 desserts. Just paid our $100 check and left (no drinks. 3 adult entrees and a kid meal and 4 waters). If you can avoid it, ask to sit anywhere other than the back of the restaurant. It was super loud. When I walked back to the front, those booths and the front spots were sooo calm. We were seated pretty close to the entrance which offers several two sitter booth style tables. This is great for couples because it is a little more private. However, it does keep you away from the glitz and glamour that is Serendipity as all that takes place in a circular area in the middle of the establishment. The food is a bit on the expensive side although it's pretty average American fare. Serendipity 3 is located in the OYO Times Square Hotel. It's also a great place to go for just dessert. I love the original Serendipity 3 on the UES. I grew up going there. Whenever we visited NYC as a kid, Serendipity 3 was always on our must list with its famous frozen hot chocolate, it's eclectic ambience and it's ability to get every kind of customer from the famous and ritziest to the tourist, local and every bohemian in between. Decades later, it's still a place to stop at. BUT ... and THAT SAID ... THIS VERSION OF S3 is HORRIBLE. The ambience is awesome. The fun colors, the electric vibe ... it screams (from the outside) that this is going to be a fun, awesome experience. BUT, THE REALITY IS that this S3 is TERRIBLE. The service is painful. You'd think the servers hate their jobs. The overpriced food (seriously, $19 for two cappuccinos to go) and the UNBELIEVABLY LACK OF CREATIVITY, MEDIOCRITY and BLAH-NESS of the food is BEYOND DISAPPOINTING. I get it, after 5 decades their idea of expansion was to open in a seedy, vile hotel in Times Square and bank on trying to capture the gullibility of tourists. Came here because I've heard the stories of the amazing Serendipty in NYC and this location was a lot closer to our hotel than the original on the upper east. Our reservation was 6:30 on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty at the time. We got daycare a table for two in the hallway so I didn't really get to see the main restaurant but what I did see was bright and cute. Except our table had a window that looked into what was apparently just and unused closet space they painted with fun colors but it was weird. Our server was fine, nothing to write home about. The menu is big and everything we ate frankly non-dessert sucked. We ordered the chicken tender sundae for $30- a goblet filled with fries and cheese sauce, topped with tenders and mashed potato and peas. You're basically paying $30 for fries, and not good fries. The cheese sauce was pure salt, the tenders not hot and covered in buffalo sauce for no reason, and the scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy managed to taste like NOTHING. That is something you order for the picture I guess. We barely touched it. And then we got the foot long hot dog covered in mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was fine, the hot dog grossly overdone and tasted like salt for $22 dollars. I barely ate anything. We then switched to dessert and did a standard frozen hot chocolate and the strawberry cheesecake sundae. Both were amazing- I just don't get why a sundae is $30. But whatever. They were delicious and presentation was top notch. The restaurant is attached to what looked like a very disgusting hotel- if you want to go to the bathroom you have to get a key for the restroom in the hotel lobby and I got major ick. Met my daughter here to celebrate my birthday before going to see Hadestown (highly recommend it if you haven't already seen it). I made reservations on Resy a month ahead since I know they fill up quickly. I checked in when i arrived, but had to wait until my daughter arrived before being seated. It was nice though because it gave me time to look around at the Andy Warholesque pop culture decor and peruse the menu. Serendipity is great about labeling their allergy friendly items and I had plenty to choose from. Our server was incredible. We included in the reservation that we were celebrating my birthday and he asked if I was comfortable with them singing Happy Birthday to me or if I just wanted a candle and a happy birthday wish. I opted not to be sung to. I ordered the frozen white chocolate and strawberry hot chocolate as my drink and a chicken Greek salad. My daughter had the cotton candy frozen hot chocolate and their Mac n cheese. My frozen hot chocolate took me back to my childhood days of getting a strawberry milkshake with my burger at the local ice cream counter service place that my mother took me to for my birthday every year.
