It's amazing what can happen when you pick the right flooring company. There are many in the valley to choose from. On a whim, we visited the Sequoia showroom because it was open when another flooring place was closed. In the showroom we immediately knew this was a different flooring experience. They were so receptive and helpful as soon as we walked in. That day, we were assigned a foreman, Kevin M. who helped us through the process of picking the right type of flooring and design. He came to our house with samples a couple of days later and we knew we were going to hire them. They are very professional, knowledgeable and most of all honest! Throughout the month or so that it took to complete our flooring project, we never felt like they were doing anything underhanded or ill advised. Kevin was ALWAYS available, even when not on site, even during the weekends. It was really nice to know that whenever we called him, he knew it was us and always answered using my name. His team (particularly Juan and Luis) were very professional, friendly and courteous - always on time and worked from "opening to closing". They finished the project on time even though we ran into some "snags" along the way. We ended up going with Sequoia Flooring after getting quotes from 5 other companies. I'll start by saying our floors were thrashed- very old hardwood floors with a large patch of boards that needed replacement. Eder was the project manager who worked with us. He was kind, helpful and professional. He told me that the replacement boards would need to be "feathered" in, a difficult process of lining up new boards with the old boards so it would look uniform/clean. Most companies had refused to do this the correct way. Eder assured me his team can do it. They gave me a great quote for the work needed. Eder kept in contact during the entire process even being at the job site at every step and always getting back to me when I had questions. The floor repair looked beautiful, the team did an excellent job. We also had the floors refinshed and let me tell you... they made it look brand new, it truly was night and day. TL;DR - shop around for refinishing. This review is for Sequoia's floor refinishing services. After purchasing an older home, we were trying to get a lot of the messy work done before moving in. This included refinishing the floors. We were hoping to save the original red oak floors that had seen a lot of use. A few areas had a weakened tongue and groove from being refinished previously over the life of the floor, so we needed a couple planks replaced. We also patched in an old floor heater. We ended up using Bona Traffic HD to give a little extra protection. On the plus side: - Sequoia had good customer service. Their employees were always friendly and responsive. - They were able to schedule the work relatively quickly and work within our availability. - Our floors turned out nice, with a few caveats below - After the floors were completed, we had a bit of a flooring emergency. We had someone come in to patch plaster and they taped a floor covering with "light stick masking tape." The chemicals in the adhesive peeled off the finish! The plaster guy didn't take responsibility, but Sequoia helped us repair the worst spot. It's not perfect, but at least the floor is protected. Now we're way more careful with other trades we hire and what they put near our floor, but lesson learned a bit too late sadly. Grateful to Sequoia for helping us fix it. Drawbacks: - Their price is quite high for refinishing, even by LA standards. By far the highest of any of the bids we received. However, we basically had to choose them based on our tight schedule, so we felt like that's what we paid for. - While the overall finish looks good, it's not quite "top dollar" good in my opinion. There are several areas where I can see swirls from the edger, sometimes not even that close to an edge. From doing some research after the fact, my understanding is that swirl marks shouldn't be visible from a standing position, however these definitely are. I think our choice of a dark stain color (provincial) highlighted this, not that that is an acceptable excuse. But natural no-stain clear coats have been so popular lately, that I wonder if this standard of work just isn't noticeable for a lot of their lighter floors. - Where they feathered in new boards to patch the floor heater they slightly cut into an adjacent board. - After living here for 6 months, I can see some scratches starting where my cat sometimes runs in the hallway. I know pet claws are always a risk on hardwood floors, but I was still pretty shocked to be seeing evidence of this after 6 months. I lived my whole life with cats on hardwood floors that were oil finished, so I wonder if it's related to water based finishes? Perhaps we should have had them do an extra coat of Traffic HD, but at the time it was very hard to tell if it was necessary or just an upsell. Other flooring guys told us the extra coat was overkill and would make the satin finish look more like semi-gloss. Oh well, time to buy some more rugs. - In some areas the grain feels quite rough/raised. They told us this is normal for a water based poly (I've only ever had oil based poly before), but in retrospect I wish I had had them screen and recoat. We were just running out of time before moving. Overall, we're decently happy with how our floors turned out. Everyone says they look nice, but obviously when it's your own home you notice all the little things. Of course there are always imperfections in old homes, but that's not what I'm critiquing. I waited a while to live with the floor and write a fair review, only mentioning things that I think are reasonable. However, after time has passed I do feel the quality didn't quite match the price and I would likely use someone else's services in the future. read more

We remodeled our kitchen in August, and as part of the project we decided to put in new floors throughout the house. We had three different companies come out, and Eder at Sequoia was the only person who walked us through all of the different options. He brought many different samples and gave us the pros and cons of each flooring type. Ultimately we went with a laminate made by Eternity Flooring. It was a pretty big job, but Eder and his crew did amazing work. After living with the floors for several months now, I can definitely say we'd work with them again any day. One tip - and this has nothing to do with the great work Eder and team did - during the process of removing some old carpeting we found there was old Parquet in one of the rooms. If we had the time, I would have removed that old flooring first. We did remove the old flooring in other parts of the house, so the transitions between rooms is seamless everywhere else. Not a big deal, and it works just fine. But if seamless transitions is important to you, make sure you check under your existing carpet first. read more

Good company to work with until the very end, then all they wanted was their final check. I had a couple of little issues, they either ignore it or told me they did their best. Dennis was very nice and prompt during the bid process and overseeing the project but in the end, he kind of fell short. The installation crew, Marco and his buddy were very courteous and pleasant to work with. I paid over $50K for engineered floors, I thought they would replace the threshold going out to the garage, no, I can pay them more or have my handyman put it on. OK, I got it. I had an issue with the nosing on the staircase matching the color of the stairs , they did try twice to match the color but to no avail. They blamed it on red oak instead of it being white oak. They said they could replace the piece and charge me for it, which is fine, after all it was a change order, I gave him the measurements but he never gave me a price. They sounded put off having to address the issue. I had my staircase guy replace it for $300. Not a big issue. Got it taken care of. There are a couple of spots, where you can see the sheen was taken off in a circular motion like someone may have used a solvent to clean up some excess glue or something. Mentioned it to them, crickets, just wanted to know when they could pick up the final check. Floors look great except for the couple of spots. I have one squeaky plank, probably normal, but a little annoying. Unfortunately, the end of the process left a sour taste. From the reviews, most people have had a good experience. read more

They did an incredible job on our very old floor. It was not an easy one. Between a floor that's been re-finished at least 3 times before, powdered black dye that was used on the last go, some damaged boards to replace, installing fascia, and working with some fairly picky customers, they did a phenomenal jobs and we couldn't be happier with the results. We purchased our first home in October. The entire house was carpeted and we knew that we wanted to see if there were hardwood floors underneath or get hardwood floors installed. We first started working with Sequoia flooring back on November 23rd. Brian was our contact. He was personable, respectful, patient and communicative throughout the entire process. We had collected bids from 3 other 5 star rated flooring companies. Sequoia came back with the best rate by far. We were nervous that the lower estimate might mean a sacrifice some other way but that was NOT the case in the slightest. The first hiccup that came was that part of the floor used to be a patio that was covered. It was completely concrete. Brian came by and explained our options. He constantly communicated any updates or changes. The house is older so there turned out to be a few damaged areas. When Brian discovered these areas he would always contact us and let us know the different ways we could proceed. He also went above and beyond to find me the most minimal baseboards.
