I had a beauty appointment with Julia and mainly wanted to find a new foundation, brow product, and a specific eyeliner for my lash extensions. I'm so glad I had my appointment with her because she was so knowledgeable about the products and very personable. Since I have lash extensions, I can't use waterproof or oil based products and Julia was able to find an eyeliner that matched that description! I'm very sorry to say that I love Sephora, but HATE going into this Sephora store. I have been going here for some time, and I'd say that 9/10 times, I have a bad experience. The employees only care to gossip with one another, and do their best to avert their eyes from customers. Each time I am in Sephora, I never get asked of I need help, and get snobby looks from most of them as well. Does this make me want to buy? NO! Today, I went into Sephora to return a palette than I had bought awhile back and had a receipt for, and they returned it reluctantly. Then, I asked if I could also return a concealer that I had no receipt for, which I had since October, and used without satisfaction. I kept trying to get myself to like it. but I didn't. The Sephora return policy says they will return any product for full refund, but that was not the case. When I asked if I could return without a receipt, the cashier said it would be fine without a receipt, as long as I had my ID. Meanwhile, the cashier takes the concealer out of the packaging, and starts swatching it on her arm, then walks away. She comes back with her manager (I assume) who rudely informs me that I have used too much of the product, since she can see the bottom of it (after the cashier swatches her arm up?) and that I cannot return it. I say ok, and walk off. Later, I open up my concealer's packaging, look inside, and I cannot see the bottom. There is also product left, enough for me to keep using it, if I wanted. My question is: how much product can I use before it is "too much" for me to return? That is NOT what their policy states. I am disappointed in your store. I agree with previous reviews which stated that they felt as if the employees were creepily watching them as if they were going to steal something. I understand teenagers/ ghetto people steal shit but really I was 8 months pregnant during my visit to sephora how TF am I going to run away seriously!! I asked about a certain type and brand of product, got my foundation matched to my skin, got the product then my sales woman proceeds to show me something hella random I didn't ask about. This is by far the most unfriendly Sephora I've ever been too. No one knows how to say hello. I feel like if a customer that knows about makeup walks in, they say nothing to you and only help those that aren't wearing makeup. Sephora? What is there to say about you? You are in a narrow small location with way too much stuff packed into that tiny space. Yet it is still hard for me to find what I want. Service is lacking, if any at all. I still rate you 2.5 stars because you have what I want and you are the closest location for me. I feel that the prices are on the more expensive side and you can find some of the items elsewhere for cheaper. I also feel like I can always find something new and works well but I also feel like I spent way too much! I am a self admitted Sephora JUNKIE. I have a temptu and I spend a lot of $$$ there.. I've had way more positive experiences there than negative, however I've noticed since moving to Pleasanton that the staff at this location are extremely catty and uninterested in helping answer questions. Staff is nice but they seem unexperienced. A Sephora employee told me from the Ba Street store that the JC Penny staff is trained by JC Penny and you don't have to have real previous. Which I know is true because they girl at this one said she didn't have to have previous training and she didn't go to any kind of school but she was really good and into make-up so she got hired. Which is fine but um she wasn't good. This Sephora is inside JC Penny for a reason lol. I read another review that complained about there skills of color matching and I agree. I made an appointment to get a custom makeover for my engagement pictures. I'm honestly not the kind of girl that wears make up or knows how to do my make up that well, so I decided this could be a good time to learn and look nice. My makeup consultant was Maria. She was wonderful! Right off the back I loved her makeup. She had a natural not over the top look that I was going for. She showed and talked through my whole makeover which I loved. She showed me step by step what to do, giving me the confidence that I could do my own makeup when I wang to look nice! I was iffy about the lashes but the eventually grew on me and I loved my look soooo much! My husband and family gave me so many compliments. I ended up asking for her personal info so she could do my makeup for my wedding. I'm also a very PICKY person when it comes to my makeup, so if I'm pleased it's not taken lightly! I was not greeted at the door and I felt that the sales associates looked down on me since I was in gym shorts and a black t shirt. I had trouble looking for the eyeliner I needed and no one was available to help me. I was circling around the store for help for at least 5 minutes and NOT ONE sales associate asked if I needed any assistance. Some were just standing around and avoiding eye contact. When I finally found a sales associate, I asked her to help me locate the eye pencil sharpener. She seemed annoyed and was not friendly at all. I got my items and went to purchase it. The cashier was pretty nice and answered my question about a discontinued eyeliner (which I love). When I was walking out to the door, the sale associates at the door looked at me and then looked away. Rude! Don't I at least get a "thank you" or a "have a nice day"? I clearly bought something and have the sephora bag in my hand! This was not the first time I had to experience this. I only come to this location since it is closest to home. SEPHORA ANGELS!!! THE VERY BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE-they saved me. I was a mess by the time I walked through their front door. They didn't treat me at all like the wreck I knew I appeared to be in front of them! instead they welcomed me with open arms when they were already visibly busy! they truly rescued me from such an unpleasant experience at the #&* store (just below them on the bottom level of the mall) where I had just left from a makeup competitor. that store was NOT very busyat all but for some reason...sigh:-( The one time I thought I might try another brand...instead (for my engagement photos) I should have know better after being a long time Sephora girl! . the competitor told me it would be $60 for makeover and that didn't include makeup. SO I was in tears and ran upstairs to Sephora where I knew what to expect. I'm so sorry I can't remember her name but she's th DIOR makeup rep/artist ( I will amend this review when I find your name) did an amazing job and the other kindest girl greeted me and told me they could help me in a pinch. Poor things, I must have looked scary afraid. I had come from NC for my photos and didn't know anything about ANYTHING in terms of makeup in the Pleasanton area. The girls at Sephora even curled my hair after my makeup, as I was running running out of time, with having wasted so much time at the other store. This Sephora is rather small. It does not carry all the lines I like and it is always a tight squeeze when I am shopping in a isle. This is definitely not a fun location to play around with make-up. I went in on a weekday night thinking I'd get some help looking for a foundation for a wedding. I asked someone for help and they directed me over to someone in kind of a rude manner, at the end of the conversation I wasn't sure if I would be getting helped or not. I was happily surprised someone did show up to color match me(even though they did sound a little annoyed when they talked over the Wallis), and left the store excited to try my new foundation the next day. The next morning I tried my foundation and realized the person who helped me handed me a completely different color that did not match me at all! I don't know if they didn't pay attention to what color they had swatched but to say I was annoyed was a little of an understatement. read more

The primary reason why this rating was given two stars was simply for the circumstance of customer service. Every establishment should be geared towards providing their customers with excellent customer service but in this Sephora establishment, I believe could have done better in that category. Their shortcoming of customer service quality, in my opinion, begins with their return policy that they don't necessarily stand behind at all times. It states that without a receipt, you may return a product because of dissatisfaction in return for store credit. I proceeded and brought a couple of items and a cashier stated that if I did not have the receipt for the items, I could return the next day instead. Mind you, this is about a twenty to thirty minute drive for me depending on the traffic flow. The items were brand new and boxed meaning they could easily scan or search the item on their inventory from the SKU. The lady appeared bored of her position, uninterested to follow through with the return but I complied otherwise. The next day when I did return, another salesperson quickly did the return after I explained and yet the process took a total of three minutes including my new purchases. I noticed certain employees there either lack the knowledge of their products or how to apply them as well as having the tendency of having the holier than thou attitude. I also disliked how dirty their stations can be, sometimes there are napkins left behind and it can look unsanitary so they do need to follow up their cleanliness. I've seen way too many used cotton or sponge pads in the dispensers so I've been cautious to touch a few of those. This Sephora also is missing quite a quantity of items compared to the others that I have visited such as certain Shiseido items, Calvin Klein cosmetics, Hard Candy, and such. They still do provide an array of high quality cosmetics but disappointed in the staff performance overall but I will admit that there are two or three out of perhaps twenty people that are employed there that I always love seeing around because they are so eager to help and are extremely friendly. One of them even remembered me when I visited for a foundation refill. read more

I am truly surprised by all these bad reviews. I shopped at Sephora last paycheck looking for the NARS foundation. I was approached right after I entered the store..and was helped immediately. The woman who helped me told me a lot about the foundations they offered and I liked it because she gave me her own personal oppionion but didn't try to push her favorites on to me. She even let me cut in line and rang me up immediately!! I came for foundation and left with that and a primer. I like sephora, so i have decided to go into this one, and I don't think I will go back. The place is crowded and cramp. When I entered the place, it was all colorful and nice looking. Gosh I thought it was some beauty lollipop or something. The service is horrible. I walked in there for like 10-15min, trying to find my makeup thing, and none of the staffs offered to help. Was it because I'm asian and don't look fancy or what? It was crazy in there, you can't get around without bumping into someone. The girls here are always so helpful and knowledgable! I always walk out of this store buying and spending way more than I anticipated, but leave with great products. Came in today and had the pleasure of having Maricela help me. I was interested in two different Lancôme foundations and she helped me narrow it down to one by asking me a few simple questions about my skin routine. She also matched the foundation perfectly to my skin. I ran into her again a few mins later and she helped me pick out a new gel liner. She had a huge smile the whole time and was filled with so much knowledge about the products. She gave me her honest opinions without trying to "push" the products on me like some other retail girls. The store is clean and organized and always enough girls to help you with any questions. This store is a must visit if you're a makeup/product junkie like myself. No shame in my game!! read more

I haven't been here in years... Noticed they had an interior face lift. I don't remember the floor plan being so large and open with so many different sections. This was a very nice surprise to see that my hometown Sephora has stepped up their game in the merchandising department. Reason why I am giving them 3 stars though is due to the lack OF merchandise which I know, was due to the recent holiday spending... Lots of specific products were not in stock. The shelves and what was left in stock in some areas did not look that nice... I hate it when I see people leave their beverage cups on store shelves (I saw that here, lol). To be fair, a lot of stores I walked into seemed like a tornado went through them. I'm not sure if it's fair of me to rate on appearance and merchandising... But I am. The employees were great though! I've never come across a horrible or rude employee at any of the Sephoras I've entered. Makeup and haircare and scents Oh My! I love Sephora and regardless as to how the service is, I will forever shop there because they have just about everything you could want for beauty! I went in earlier today and it seemed like they didn't have enough people working. There were a lot of customers and not enough people to help them! I went in looking for certain products, but they weren't well displayed. I wanted a lip gloss made by bare escentuals and when I found the bare escentuals section, there was no lip gloss! Had I been in a rush, I would have gone over to the bare escentuals store and bought the glosses there, but not only would Sephora have lost out on my business, but I also would have lost out on receiving my beauty insider points (It helps me get free things and I LOVE free things)! I finally found an effervescent man to help me with my numerous questions. Not only did he point me in the direction of where my desired lip glosses were, but he got me a perfume sample and showed me where I could find waterproof eyeliner (gave me 2 brands-one for cool colors, and one for black). I finally got everything I needed, headed up to the register, and thankfully got 15 percent off of my purchase for being a beauty insider! I love how I can buy 3 lip glosses, a mascara, and an eyeliner; save 15 percent and use a gift card worth approximately 13 dollars, and still walk away spending 80 dollars! Don't get me wrong, that is expensive, but with beauty products, they are pretty much a set price that all of the department stores stick to. I love Sephora, but this one seemed a little unorganized, a little crowded, and is going through some kind of construction making it harder to walk up each aisle. My oldest daughter got a promotion on her job and wanted to try a new look. We went to Sephora in the mall. We were lucky enough to get Sierra. She was knowledgeable, funny and very patient. Sierra gave us a pleasant, albeit expensive, experience. We will be coming back and will be looking for Sierra. Came in for a color match in the new NARS foundation and the employee tried her best to match me without swatching on my skin however he color is two shades lighter. I came in a few weeks later, Today around 4/5 for a color match for a friend (her second time) and the sephora employee was using the same wand to swatch different color concealers (?) which makes for an inaccurate swatch as all the colors are being mixed. She then continued to attempt to color match however when I pointed out the colors were inaccurate, especially the undertones, the employee became hostile. I am not sure of the reason for hostility toward a paying frequent customer, A Rouge member, however I did not appreciate her tone and demeanor when voices my concerns and questions. I am a beauty products junkie. I absolutely salivate when I walk into Sephora. What I like about this place is that they carry just about everything you could ever want in the cosmetics, fragrances, and skin care categories. I like that everything has a tester, and there are testing stations with a mirror, and tissues for cleaning up. What I do not care for at Sephora is the bitchiness. The service just flat out stinks, and you encounter a lot of teenage divas who can't seem to move out of the way when the one item you especially came in for is in the back of the store. LOVE this Sephora! I'm a VIB Rouge member & Sephora PLAY! member. I enjoy going to their monthly Sephora Play member nights. Nicole who usually runs these events is AWESOME! She is extremely knowledgeable on products in the store, how they are to be used, the company who makes the product, how to pair them with other products etc. She is very passionate about the products not in a salesperson/commission hungry way but genuinely sincere in her excitement of the products she is showing us. I have been attending these events for almost 6 months now & look forward to it every month. Tonight (3/23/17) they even had samples made in advance so we had more time to learn about products then shop & ask questions about other items we were interested in.
