The employee to shopper ratio in this store is AMAZING. Every time, I turn around, I am asked if I need help with something. And not in a pushy way either. Sephora is not a pushy type of store. I was back here yesterday because they sent their Insider members a 15% coupon for everything in the store. I decided to stock up on some make-up essentials that are costly necessities (Laura Mercier under eye concealer, Urban Decay eyeshadow base, Dr. Brandt wrinkly cream). They weren't exactly fun purchases so I spent another 15 minutes in the store trying out eye shadows, bronzers, and lip glosses. It turned my rainy day into a total pick me up. read more

In no way will the mediocre service get in the way of my shopping (since I come with a preconceived purpose) but it really is quite bad. I go in probably once a month, new mascara, lip stick, ect. I spend a lot of money on dumb things at Sephora and I think if the staff was more helpful I wouldn't, winning situation for them I guess! I'm always greeted but never really helped. I'll ask for a recommendation here and there and usually just get waved to where they recommend me to go. Granted, I come in often so maybe they think I know my way around pretty well... But I don't. If I can buy what I need from Nordstrom, I definitely will since the service at Nordstrom is second to none in my opinion. If you want to have a high pressure experience while at the same time being ignored than Sephora in Oakbrook Center is the place to go. To be specific the "expert artists" give Sephora a bad name. After 10 minutes only one of us had eye primer on one eye - and that was it. The expert who was ready for us at the start, kept walking away or talking to other customers. The primer wasn't what we came in for in the first place and said thanks but we don't want it. Since we were leaving we suddenly became her priority and she kept up with an intense, guilt ridden sales pitch. I'd only give one start but I do like some of the products and the one woman doesn't represent the entire store. If you're going to shop here, your best bet is to go already knowing what you want, or browse on your own. You'll be happier. read more

I've been in many Sephoras before, never have I had such bad experience going in there. The employees obviously didn't care. Didn't ask if I needed help all just stood in the front talking to eachother. Needed help finding an eyebrow pencil but just left because they weren't doing there job right. Normally I love Sephora and have great experiences there but I will say this is one of the worst ones I have ever been to and will make sure everyone knows of my family friends and clients. Never again. Also a manager I'm pretty sure was even standing in the front didn't say anything to me other then hi when I first walked in. I love Sephora and the products they offer, but I'm not impressed by the customer service offered at this location. The employees ask if you need help with anything, but when you ask a question they seemed annoyed and unwilling to help. It's gotten to the point where I'd rather shop online. Let me tell you how great the two Jennys are! I have been town from Florida for a week with 6 weeks to go. My skin was not happy with the weather and my normal makeup, face wash, and moisturizers were just not doing it for me. My skin was dry and hurting. I came in and told them my predicament. They immediately knew what my skin needed. The one Jenny showed me the best makeup for my skin up here and the other Jenni showed me an amazing skincare system. After 1 day my skin was feeling back to its normal self! I am so thankful since I don't know what I would have done if my skin was like that for another 6 weeks. I'm normally an Ulta girl, but on this particular day my mom was on a mission from God. No, really. We had a wedding to go to (in a church), and she needed some blush. See? From. God. Anyways.. This wasn't my first time in this particular Sephora, but I probably won't be going there anytime soon unless Ulta is out of something. My mom decided she wanted some new foundation and asked the Benefit girl to do a makeup demo on her. Lucky for my mom, they had just got new kits of benefit products in and the lady was more than willing to get to work. I had mentioned that I used a few of the products she was putting on my mom. She then showed mi madre Benefits pore minimize primer. Now, if you've been blessed with visible pores- try this, and thank me later. Anyways. I had some of it on already but the lady insisted on showing my mom what it looked like on someone with no makeup on. Insult #1 because I actually did have makeup on, but I was just running errands so it wasn't over the top like the Sephora ladies. Then after I let her apply it, the wrong way, she said "See now you can't see her big pores. No offense." Insult #2. Really? I mean we all know our flaws but no reason to point them out... I didn't mention to her that you couldn't see them before either because I already had the primer AND foundation on. Then she told my mom you could put the primer on OVER your make up, and proceeded to apply it with a brush. Now I know the package says you can apply it over your make up, but it also says to apply with your finger and even has specific ways to apply it for the best results. Instead, she just made my moms face look caky and said "whoops." KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS BENEFIT LADY! While my mom browsed for the ultimate blush, I found some foundation with amazonian clay in it. Who doesnt want to try that? After 2 girls working there had passed me by like I was Casper, I finally went searching and found a girl to match me and sample me up. When I told her what I normally use she had no idea what it is. Another woman stepped in and told me "They got rid of that line here and sell it at Wal-Mart, try there." #1- they do not sell it at WalMart. When I told her they sell it at Ulta, she said oh maybe I meant Target not WalMart. Um, what? The only helpful lady was the lady in the perfume section who helped my mom find a good blush. Like I said, unless Ulta is out of something- I probably won't be going back here because of the customer service. read more

My first time buying makeup not at Target or some other and it was great. I joined the rewards program and got a free mini mascara and highlighter. This place compared to the MAC store near by is way more inviting, you'll understand why if you go look. There's a lot here and I knew kind of what I wanted but was totally unsure what shades to get. I asked a random employee for help and she was great. Her name was Jen and she was totally helpful. They have a little camera that takes pictures of your skin colors and suggests the best shades for ALL of the products. She applied the products on me, explaining every step and helped me stay within my $75 budget. If you're lost just go say I need help and you'll definitely get it. read more

I love love love Sephora. One of the bad things about the store is that they stalk you a bit in there. I know it's called customer service, but asking if you need help 5 times in 20 min, by pretty much the same person is a bit excessive. I love the selection they have, and they do have a very nice layout. The only beef with them is that they sometimes lie to get a sale. I wanted to try Philosophy in a Jar moisturizer, and I know it has a strong lavender scent to it. When I was toying around with the jar at the register, the associate asked if I wanted it, and I expressed my concern about the lavender smell, and her response was..."Oh no! It does not have a scent at all, it's pretty much odorless!" Yeah, it reeks like lavender and old lady. read more

I consider my trip to Sephora like going to Walgreens to pick up makeup. The employees are useless, ignore you and bunch all together talking at the register or somewhere else in the store. I usually go because I know what I want... get in and get out. My last several experiences have been so ignorant that I will probably start going to Nordstrom to pick up my NARS. I'm curious how much they lose to shoplifters considering the lack of attention to the customers...worked retail many years ago and I've seen it going down right under their noses (missed it since their noses are so up in the air). Another shout-out to Sephora at Oakbrook. I walked in this afternoon (at around 4) and the store was rather busy. I still had someone inquire if I needed any help within a minute of being in the store. I went for my colorIQ and some foundation help. Gicelle sat down and worked with me. Overall, she was probably with me around fifteen minutes testing different types of foundations, primers and setting sprays. She was tremendously personable, informed, and helpful. I really enjoyed working with her. I'd also like to give a shout-out to their cleanliness protocols: she (and another woman who helped me with lipstick) took the time to disinfect everything very thoroughly (brushes, makeup) before application. Sephora products are pricy, but the staff are so knowledgable and so willing to sit down and help you out that it's absolutely worth the cost. read more

I love this store. At one time they had more helpful staff. lately I've gone there and the employees suck. I go to this store since i am at oakbrook quite a bit.. at least lately. So hopefully that will change. Generally if I am looking for anything they have it (lately they hadn't had Make Up For Ever's all mat which i had been wanting for ages and since i don't shop online I had to get in store and they said they no longer had it) well I found it there this past weekend so I am way happy about that. They usually have every fragrance I want as well which is a plus since i am kind of a scent whore. They've even opened up testers if certain ones did not have a tester out. I have to go exchange a few things tomorrow so I will see how i am treated then since lots of places generally do not like when you take stuff back. I usually don't review stores unless I experience exceptional customer service. I was here last week, with no make up on looking like I just came from the gym. I wanted to buy some sparkly nail polish. The display didn't have any so I checked the drawer - no such luck. A guy came up and asked if I needed help (I was a little surprised he worked there). I told him what I was looking for and he told me they had been out. I asked if they have nail pot glitter and he showed me where it was. I selected one and went to the check out with him. I said I guess I will have to order it online (about the nail polish I wanted). He said Oh let me give you a code for online for free shipping so you don't have to pay for that. Went in on NYE to see if I could get a last minute makeup application. They were booked, which I expected. However, Christina was able to get me in for a free eye makeup application within 30 minutes. Better than nothing! I had Georgie do my eye makeup and she was amazing! She asked what I was looking for and gave great suggestions. I received numerous compliments that night on my eye makeup. I originally thought that a "free" service was going to be quick and basic. the staff is wonderful but they constantly lie about delivery dates. Again they said 4 day delivery and it is day seven. I went in the store last Sunday and the Perricone product was not in stock..they do not say 4 business days they say four days..1st lie and then you don't get it in 5 business days because the shipping dept is understaffed. I went here to find gifts for my nieces. I had a little information about what they liked but still had some decisions to make and the women working there were very helpful to me in doing that. They mentioned that they do not work on commission and I think this helps the employees to be more helpful to the customers. This sephora has almost everything except good costumer service. The employees are constantly asking if we needed help after we explained we were just looking. Employees knew nothing about makeup. One of them told my friend to put LOTION not moisturizer or eye cream around her eye. Another applied a dark concealer under her eye that oxidized and got even darker. She didn't blend it properly either and left a line between her foundation and concealer on her cheeks. It looked terrible. I asked about a good foundation for mature skin and they recommend a thick and matte foundation which I knew would not work for me. I swatched it on my arm and I discovered wrinkles and lines I never knew I had. The entire experience was ridiculous. I was planning on buying products before going in there and I knew what I wanted but after I saw how bad the costumer service was and how rude they were I walked out. I swear I've never experienced Sephora employees that ridiculous. I'll never go back to THAT Sephora location. read more

All employees love to help and put things on for you and will compare and contrast products with you. They also help to get the better deals and make sure I am satisfied with my products. I tend to bounce back and forth between Sephora and Ulta. The more I shop at Sephora, the more this store trumps Ulta. Sephora's brand of eye shadows are pigmented perfectly and last all day. Their staff is extremely helpful with foundation color matching as well. I feel like Ulta has become too diluted with drug store brands and I like that Sephora feels a bit more exclusive and high end. read more

The girls that work here seem to know absolutely nothing about makeup in general. I went in to get foundation matched and end up being dissatisfied every time. I am a bit tan and they matched me with a foundation that when I later swatched on my hand looked orange and my friend thought it was a lipstick swatch it looked so different from my skin tone. The beauty experts there are always super kind & love talking and teaching about makeup as well. I am usually more of an Ulta customer due to the fact that there are not too many Sephora stores near me. However, the weekend of my birthday I went out of my way to visit this location in hopes of purchasing some eyelashes. I basically went in there not knowing anything about what I was looking for, just that I wanted to leave with a great pair of lashes and maybe even receive help with getting them put on. Wrong I was! First off, I was not greeting upon my arrival. I work retail and at an extremely higher volume store, as a manager I know it is highly important to make sure you have someone standing up front and ready to greet each and every customer. If my seven million dollar store can spare a body to greet every hour, this store can too. Furthermore, I was not impressed at all with the customer service! I was not asked once if I needed assistance. In fact, I had to go over to not one, but four associates to ask for help. Not only did they give me useless information, but they pointed me in the direction of where I might find what I'm looking for instead of walking me over to further assist me. I guess standing in a group of two or more gossiping was a little more important. (Since that's what almost all the associates I had approached were doing) Rarely do I write bad reviews because working retail I know what you must deal with. However, this was extremely aggravating. I not only wasted my time and gas, but because of this horrible customer service I actually walked out with nothing. I do hope the next time I walk into a Sephora I have a completely different experience. read more

I am never setting foot in this Sephora again. I have been a loyal VIB Rouge client for a couple of years and after the way I was treated the last time I was in, I am never going to this location again. I came in wanting to exchange something I purchased online for something else. The amount of attitude and rudeness that came out of the associate who processed my return was unbelievable! She was really rude to me, claiming that I "constantly make returns and never actually purchase anything". Now I have made a few returns in the past, but always with a receipt and 90% of the time I'm just exchanging for a different shade. Also, most of the time no one ever wants to help when I'm in there. There was one sweet girl (who I haven't seen in a while, so I guess she no longer works there) who worked in fragrance who was always nice and cheerful and asked how I was doing.
