Weekend before Christmas madness - I need a Sephora giftcard - ugh. Walk in - many people in the store - but the line is not too bad. Why? cause they are a great team here - there was an issue with one of the registers, so one of the ladies who works there steps up and brings a portable machine to check people out who are paying with debit/credit.... love it! Instead of just letting the lines get longer due to an out of order register, she was right there pitching in. Got my gift card (and a lil something for me) and got out of dodge! Sephora has stepped up and the customer service has improved significantly. I've been in here on weekdays and weekends, always met with someone who is friendly but willing to let me browse for awhile. My most recent purchases are from the Pantone collection. I love the eyeshadow pallettes and was surprised when the most recent one I bought was $10 less than the sign stated! Aside from Pantone I shop for the Urban Decay, Dior, YSL, and NARS products. Usually I just play around and browse, but sometimes it's for some serious spending on overpriced lip gunk. Sephora still falls short on inventory. On more than one occasion, there's an item I want. I reach for the tester and make my decision. And, oops, they're all out of stock. The staff isn't really helpful in locating the item either in their store or others, they just re-check the shelf to confirm with you that you aren't blind. read more

I haven't been to OBC in quite some time and I popped in with a friend because she needed a product. I walk in and browsing around the makeup section and I wasn't even there 2 minutes and I tried a color on my hand. I always smell makeup and for a brief second I pulled down my mask to smell and one of the employees was just abruptly rude and said testers are for display only and you have to put your mask back on. #1 I just pulled down my mask to smell the product so I was intending to put it back up. #2 there were NOT any signs that say testers are for display only. It pissed me off because I am a pretty loyal makeup consumer. This boy made me so angry and I heard him say under his breath "just doing my job". Well there is a way you do your job and it's not making a customer feel like crap. Approach somebody nicely like most other stores out there. I'm not an idiot, I know we are a mask wearing society right now. Nobody was in the aisle with me, hell there wasn't anyone in the next aisles either. I will never go back there and the fact that this boy was "doing his job" was a joke. There was no appreciation of customers on his part and lack of customer service too. There are a few things I typically go to Sephora for. Murad's skin care. They have several "kits" that are 4 steps, I've been using the acne one for a few months now and it was the only thing that cleared up my face after several attempts including Clinique's 3 step. Makeup forever eyeliners. LOVE LOVE LOVE these eyeliners. I own at least 6 different colors and they are amazing. Stay on so well. They carry NARS. Not all department stores do, love their orgasm blush, laguna bronzer, and they have really nice lip glosses too. I also just bought a Kat Von D eye palette, because it's super high pigmented color like MAC eye-shadows but it's a lot cheaper so I figure I'll give it a try and see how it goes. The key is to sign up for a beauty insider account so you can rack up points when you shop for little freebies...sure they're small, but hey why not get something if you're already spending the $$ read more

If I could give a zero star I would. Went in for perfume and hair products. When I got back to the perfume & asked for help the female employee told me I had to where a CDC approved mask, even though I had a mask on. Almost all the other shoppers had on fabric mask on and not the blue ones I'm assuming she was referring to. I am a vib rouge member and usually shop online or at the Orland park location. However I was closer to this location so I decided to stop in. Getting a sales associate to help you is a pain I the butt, then you get one and they are completely rude! I will admit they are very well stocked, but with the kind of service you get here I rather take my business elsewhere. I do not recommend this location at all! I love this Sephora. It's my favorite one in the Chicago area. As with all sephora stores, they let you play around with the makeup without any hassle or strong sales pitch like when you walk into a Nordstrom's makeup dept. I play here for 2 hours sometimes, trying on all kinds of makeup (they know that I sanitize before I use, so they don't bother me). I always end up purchasing something from here. The Oakbrook store is my favorite because the makeup artists and staff seem to be really outgoing and friendly, always smiling, and make you feel like you're the only person in the store that matters. The return policy is nice, they don't mind if you use a little bit of product. If it doesn't work out for you, just bring in your receipt and return it, no questions asked. I don't return too often, though, because I know what products work for me. They always have a great selection of samples, too. If you ever need samples of anything, they will just make up the samples with a smile, and they're very generous with the sample sizes. Their good attitudes, good store policies, product selection, rewards program, and samples will always have me shopping here over Nordstrom or Ulta anytime. read more

Update: I downgraded this Sephora location to 3 stars after a particularly terrible customer service experience. The caveat for visiting here is DO NOT let anyone in this store apply makeup to your face. I had a horrible experience there with one of my VIB rewards for a complimentary service. If you don't let the staff touch you then you will have a fine experience. It is notable that the supervisor was responsive to my complaint. I usually order sephora online, but when I need something in a pinch I usually come to this location. It is convenient, located inside the mall. The new store is nicely designed and laid out. The staff here is generally quite good at helping you find items, and also making recommendations. If you are looking for a new product they also have plenty of samples to try out to see which one suits you best. There have been a few times when the service fell flat, but those were the exception. They also frequently have male staff if you need recommendations for men's products. Although many products here are quite expensive, the sephora-branded line generally runs much more affordable. If you find a helpful staff member they are pretty transparent about how the products stack up in comparison. read more

Patty was really rude. I have thousands of beauty insider points and tried returning a pair of Lilly lashes. I regularly buy them from her website and decided I was at Sephora already so why not. As soon as I got home I noticed they were nothing like the actual Lilly lashes. I called the next morning and spoke to someone and said I could return lashes even if they were open. Visited this store for a mini foundation session with Andy. I was primarily looking for foundation. I purchased exactly what I was looking for and left the store feeling confident in all the products. All thanks to Andy. She was very knowledgeable and explained each product very well. She listened and understood what I was looking for. In a store full of a wide range of products, she was able to narrow it down to just a few foundation brands to pick from. It just sucks me in when I walk past.I try to avoid cause each visit costs a paycheck or two but I eventually give in for the sake of my beauty. This location always disappoints. They have so much less selection than other Sephora's in the area. I never am able to walk out with all the things I came in to buy. The salespeople always cheerfully remind me that I can just order online...no sh;t, Sherlock. I am mostly an online shopper when it comes to Sephora. Their selection is so huge and overwhelming, I like to take my time and compare and read reviews. Plus, I love getting stuff in the mail! I have accumulated enough purchases to become VIB, which gets you extra perks, including a free makeover-- these are usually free but require $50 in product purchase too. I decided to treat myself for my birthday. I was hosting a party and wanted to look like an upgraded version of myself. My only reason to dock a star was my initial walk in to the store. I wasn't sure where to check in. I could see tons of associates walking around, many who weren't helping people, but they didn't seem to notice me and the big question mark on my face- it almost seemed intentional. I made it all the way to the back of the store before I could find a worker who was distracted enough to not intentionally ignore me, and she was able to direct me to where I needed to be. My makeup artist was Roberto, and he was just fantastic. He took time to ask me about my skin and what look I was going for, and then ran around the store to get me products. He explained my makeover every step of the way and asked me questions. I never felt like I wasn't in control of the makeover. I told him I'd like to be a bit more natural, and ended up with a nice medium-coverage foundation, a bold (for me) eye, penciled brows, fake lashes, a medium lip color, and some contouring. It was definitely a bolder version of myself but I liked it! It took me some time to get used to it, but the makeover lasted all night and looked good in photos. He was super helpful and willing to get me whatever I needed. I think if I was lost and wanted something specific, I would come here, as long as I could find help quickly enough. The store is a candy shop of makeup, accessories and perfumes, and I will be back! read more

I alternate between shopping with or without makeup actually on because some days you just don't want to put makeup on. However, every time I go into this location without a full face of makeup on, I am promptly ignored by the sales associates. Maybe it's just a weird coincidence, but it seems like they don't pay attention unless you "look" like you're going to buy makeup. Today I went in specifically to splurge for my birthday (without any makeup on). I was deciding between two highlighters and having a hard time, but no one approached me to help even though I had been standing in front of the display for a good ten minutes. I finally had to hunt someone down and she was very frazzled while helping me. She clearly had something else on her mind or something else to be doing, so she called on the radio for another associate to head to the display I was standing by to help me and do a makeup application so I could see what the product looked like on me. I waited for another long while for this associate to appear but they never did. I watched some associates walk by me heading towards other customers to offer assistance, but no one came to help me. In the end I made a decision without getting to try out the products and it turns out the one I decided on is not the one I should have gotten. So unfortunately, I'll have to go back to this location to exchange the item. Seems like most times I go into this location, I either get ignored, get terrible service, or get some great combination of both things. I think it'll be worth it from now on to either go to a different type of makeup store or drive farther to a different location. read more

I wouldn't call myself a girlie girl by any means (I was much more excited spending time in the Apple store playing with the new iPhone), but I've been looking to buy a new perfume and heard good things about Philosophy's Amazing Grace which is sold here. What I liked is that when I walked in I wasn't immediately attacked and followed around the store like those annoying chicks in Bath & Body Works do (which keeps me from stepping a foot inside their store most days). I've been able to find all kinds of great finds that I thought would only be available online. The staff here really really work to get you what you need, even tracking you through the store using their little ear pieces (a little big sisterish if you ask me, but oh well). They have a very good selection of lines like Benefit, Tarte, Fresh, Bare Minerals and of course, their own house brand which holds many a secret stash of wonderment. Worth the holding your breath as you come in until you reach the rear area. I worked with Jenny in skincare and Kayla in makeup and both were FANTASTIC. I remembered Jenny from a single visit I made to the store over the holidays where I asked her for a quick recommendation for an oil cleanser and lip balm and she immediately steered me towards Sunday Riley Blue Moon cleanser and Lancer lip treatment, both of which were excellent. I was super lucky she was there again today and she worked with me for a long time helping me choose a new retinol product and some exfoliating masks that I have already tried and LOVE! She took her time to go through every product and the benefits of each. I'm confident in the choices I made with her guidance. Jenny then turned me over to Kayla who helped me with a new concealer and foundation (I also ended up buying all the other products she used on my face because I loved them and she made excellent suggestions). As a retail store manager and business owner myself, I can tell you that these are two exceptional staff members with top notch customer service skills. Both of them took the time to listen to my concerns and what I was looking for in a product, and made the effort to really suggest things that would work for me. Never been more upset with this Sephora. I usually have the best time in there with very kind employees that are always willing to help. However I truly have never been so disappointed. An employee named Lupe was extremely rude and made me feel so I welcomed. I just left the store. She neglected helping me and did a return (I believe incorrectly) and just was so rude and shook her head at me when I wasn't looking. Other employees were trying to assist me. I've been to Oakbrook Center a million times, but never went in this store...until last Sunday. I typically stay away because I usually see overly made up girlie-girls going in, but I decided I'd peruse. I found a 30 SPF eye cream from Clarins that I can't get at most cosmetic counters. Score! I have been looking for a high SPF eye cream for a long time. I tried the product when I got home, and experienced no irritation whatsoever. I'll be back for this product for sure. I also snagged a bunch of fabulous nail polish colors with the Sephora label, made by OPI. Can't wait to use them. I love the selection, and will be in when I need to by more makeup. The gals that work there are super helpful. I walked up to the counter, and the cashier offered to sign me up for their frequent shopper card. It's free, so why not? She also gave me a "birthday gift" lip gloss package just for signing up, even though my birthday was 4 months ago! Thank you very much! read more

Visiting Sephora is like going to the candy store . . . except each piece of candy is $20-40 so you'd damn well better not treat them like M&M's. But despite the inevitably high prices of cosmetics, Sephora's great selection + flexible return policy + rewards program = patron for life. I love Sephora in general, but the Oak Brook store in particular is big, with a great variety of brands (e.g. they have Hourglass cosmetics and Guerlain) and helpful-but-not-obnoxiously-helpful salespeople. Random tip: if you're on the rewards program and hit 100 points or more, the cashier will ask you which "deluxe sample" you want in such a way that you feel like you HAVE to pick one. But don't do it - HOARD YOUR POINTS!!! It's worth it once you reach 500 and get to pick a much more fun prize - Sephora's "deluxe samples," on the other hand, are pretty crappy and definitely not worth blowing 100 points on. read more

I'm really low maintenance and even I love this store! The best part is that you can try everything (yes, even the most expensive perfumes and products) without having to beg for them from an over-done woman in the department store. The first time my friend and I left that store I'm sure we smelled like French floozies but we were drunk with power. If you overindulge, the very helpful staff will make up a sampler of what you thought may have been your favorite. As also mentioned, they have brands not carried other places (like the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner I love so much). You'll probably end up spending too much but it'll be fun. read more

I have to preface this with a statement. I have a lip gloss and makeup addiction. That being said I could have, would have dropped a lot more money during my last visit had I been able to browse. The place was packed and due to the weird layout very difficult to play with samples. Only one person helped direct me to the right place for some new mascara. Was completely ignored by the consultants upstairs which is fine because I found my stuff. The real bane of my experience was trying to pay for my stuff. Where's the line? I asked someone who worked there and she said "I think it's over there". I think??????? Great, so I stand like a moron and other people are walking around and getting rung up before me. I generally avoid this location. If you get the right person to help you they might be nice, but generally speaking the employees here are pretty rude and unhelpful. ("June like the month"-not sure if she still works there-is a prime example of this. She'll talk to you like she's reprimanding a small child and roll her eyes at you if you ask her any questions.) I suspect the only reason anyone comes to this location is convenience. TIP: Take your money to a location where they actually value your business. I've been to three Sephoras, and I'm a huge fan, but this store is the worst. The lighting is terrible, completely useless when applying or viewing make up. The supply stations' mirror lamps are usually off or broken, and the supplies (lip gloss applicators, mascara applicators, etc.) are usually low or empty. The testers are often missing or broken. The layout is cramped, and the decor is dark (which doesn't help with the lighting situation). I needed help once finding new concealer to help with minor blemishes and under-eye circles, and I asked for assistance. The associate pulled out a few products and sat me down to apply them. She started working under my eyes first, because my circles are worse than the blemishes by far because of my incredibly fair skin. I'm 27, and I look younger than that, but when she was done, I looked 40! Wrinkles I didn't even know I had under my eyes looked like deep canyons, and there was even globs of concealer on the sides of my nose. I'm self-taught when it comes to make up application, but even I could have done a better job. She was, however, nice enough to give me samples to try at home. I have since fallen in love with one of the concealers she put on me, having realized that she just used way too much. Honestly, if you don't live too far south, just drive up to Woodfield Mall. That Sephora is bigger, brighter, has more stuff, more helpful people, and the store seems cleaner. Update: I gave them two more stars, because they seem to have hired more helpful and friendly people, and now stock their "testing stations" much better. They still, however, have an issue with broken, missing, and empty testers, and the lighting still makes it hard to apply and view the make-up you're testing. read more

I came looking for the Tartlette 2 in bloom palette. I have been searching everywhere and to no avail I was sad when I saw they were out. Like a sad puppy, I started walking away until Sharon approached me and asked if I needed assistance. I asked if they had anymore Tartlette 2 palettes hoping she had some in stock. At first she said they were out and had an associate check in the back, and of course she said they were out. So I felt kinda disappointed and said it's okay thanks for helping anyway. She proceeded to ask if I wanted to order it and have it shipped to my house no charge for shipping....SAYYY WHUUTTT? Thought about it but politely declined and said, it's okay, I'll try again somewhere else. Sharon is the epitome of great customer service!!! Not only did she not give up helping me, but I had lost all thought of the palette 20 mins into my shopping excursion when she approached me and said they found a stock full of the Tartlette 2 palette in the back! I couldn't believe she remembered me let alone sought me out when they found the stock. AND THAT WAS 20 MINUTES AFTER I ASKED and they were already super busy.
