This Ulta was a travesty on a Tuesday afternoon. I am not sure why the employees at this store were in such sour moods, but it did not help the customer experience. It made me not want to go back there. There was no greeting or acknowledgement when we arrived that day. I thought it was standard to have someone there to say help? I asked one person for help, and she gave me a very short answer. No follow up suggestions or help. Another employee completed avoided us when it was pretty obvious that we had no idea where to go for the product. I think the poor service was all the more obvious because we had just visited the Oakbrook Sephora an hour before. I think I might just stick to Sephora from now on. Save yourself the trouble and just go to a drugstore or Sephora to buy the beauty products you could find at Ulta. read more

Please note this review is on my visit to the salon. After searching for a decent priced haircut, I was reminded that Ulta has a salon. I was able to schedule a same day appointment on the website. You can search by preferred stylist and day/time. I arrived probably 20 minutes early (my bad) and they did not have me waiting long at all. My stylist called me when she was ready. My stylist was Daniela R and I was very happy with my haircut. She took her time washing, cutting, and blow drying. I appreciated that when I told her about an inch off she showed me to ensure we were on the same page. Her hours are Sunday through Wednesday. Ulta is a lot more affordable than other places in the area (at least $20 less a haircut!) read more

We went to see Megan as a stylist here at Ulta Oakbrook, she was AMAZING. Quality service and took her time cutting my son's hair (he's 3) so he hates getting his hair cut. We went in and Megan was right on time so we didn't have to wait even a minute before getting seen and she was quick, but efficient in her craft. You can tell she is great at her craft and has a great personality, she was patient and kind with my son and did an all around amazing job. DO NOT COME TO THIS ULTA!!! They DO NOT deserve your money! Recently, while out shopping with my father, we stopped by Ulta to browse fragrances. After walking around and smelling a few, I finally decided on a fragrance. However, an employee informed me that it was unavailable in-store and suggested I order it online. Given my limited time in town, I didn't find it necessary so we simply left and continued our afternoon. After spending around 45 minutes in another store, to our complete shock, we find ourselves surrounded by 3 police officers upon leaving. We were totally caught off guard and even more so when the officers informed us that an Ulta employee reported that she SAW me steal perfumes. It was then I realized that I was racially profiled and wrongfully accused of theft. I was in disbelief throughout the entire ordeal. It was my first encounter with such blatant discrimination in retail and I refuse to let it go unnoticed. Out of all the customers in Ulta at the time, somehow my father and I were singled out for theft? Not to mention we were the ONLY black customers in the store at that time. I will NEVER return to this Ulta and I strongly discourage other black people from shopping there or you might have the police arbitrarily called on you as well. I understand that theft is an issue in Ulta and it's one thing to watch and observe your customers, but it's another thing to confidently lie and make a claim that has no basis in reality. Even if the last 2,3,4 people who were actually caught stealing were black, you DO NOT have the liberty of treating every black patron like a suspect, falsely accusing them of theft based on a racist and fallacious whim! You don't make those calls without concrete proof and certainty. While my father and I were shaken up, we still tried to enjoy the rest of the day given I only had that day to spend with him. I don't know what sort of mental gymnastics the employee performed to come to the conclusion that she did, but it was very clear that she had no regard for truth or consequences. The employee did not consider how her careless and arguably malicious act could impact the person on the other end of it. And Ulta needs to hold her accountable to the fullest extent. read more

This location in Oak Brook is one of my favorite Ulta Beauty to shop. I have been coming here for awhile and never had any issues. I just like how the set up for this store is easy to locate what your looking for while shopping. Nice Bright Lighting to bring the store alive and vibrant. The Sale Associates are always walking around the aisles and willing to help you find your brand. I just appreciate the professional and attentive attitude of this location. If your brand is out of stock they will make sure on your next visit that the item will be back in stock and on the shelves. Just an FYI: The lines are usually quite long. So, if your not the patient type this might be a Big Issue. read more

I visited this location twice on the same day. I wanted to get some Clinique foundation, but needed help figuring out what shade to get. The first time the Clinique rep was totally engrossed with another customer, so I left and returned about 20 minutes later. Like the first time, I stood near the Clinique products waiting for someone to tell me they would help me in a minute or they were busy but hang on or something. Nobody paid any attention to me. The second time, the rep was chatting away with employees. Although I stood at the Clinque products, she didnt leave her spot or end her conversation. I didn't have a lot of time and just gave up. I will be going back to the Wheaton location as I had an excellent experience there. read more

Not impressed with this location. I've stopped in several times as it's en route between my two offices. Each time it's been understaffed and messy. I love this store and especially this location! Upon entry I was greeted by a male associate who appeared to be a manager, and I was warmly greeted and asked if I could be helped in any way. I had a product I needed to exchange and I had it swapped out with no problem. In addition, I had a lot of things I needed to buy from all various make-up brands including IT, Lancome, Urban Decay, etc and so I asked one of the store associates for help. In a matter of 10 minutes, I had my whole shopping list in my basket. It was absolutely the best shopping experience I've had. I wish I got her name, but she helped me find everything I needed and even gave me recommendations for some other quality items that weren't excessively priced. I have been shopping at this location for 3 years and just about everytime I come here an employee that tries to help me can't, there are no employees insight to help me except for a busy cashier, OR this store is already sold out of the item(s) I needed. I shop at this location due to convenience not because of the consumer experience. 8 times out of 10 when shopping at this location expect to wait in line for more than 5 minutes (which is understandable due to location). Expect that at least one employee will be unaccommodating or rude. Expect that if you are wanting to purchase a specific item that they might be sold out & you will be clueless as to when they will restock unless you ask more than one Utla employee. From all of my experiences shopping here I have gathered that the people who are insight and the first to ask me if I need help are the reps who work for certain makeup brands and are not actual Utla employees. I find this a bit discouraging because when I let the reps know what I am needing, 9 times out of 10 they cannot help me and just give up. They do not suggest or find an Ulta employee assist me further - I have to do the work and try to find an Ulta employee to help. There was only one time that a rep at Ulta pissed me off due to their unprofessionalism and rude remark - luckily, I was super patient during this particular moment and didn't snap back at said rep. She worked for Lancome and asked if I needed assistance. I said yes and explained what I needed. The lady was getting frustrated because I couldn't remember the brand of eyeshadow I was seeking so she replied with, "I work for Lancome, I don't even know what you're looking for, I can't help you" then walked away. She didn't even ask an actual Ulta employee to come help me. Needless to say, I didn't wind up buying anything that day. Anyway, as I mentioned earlier in this review, I shop at this Ulta due to convenience and nothing else. With it's coupons and specials, you can get better deals here than Wal-Mart or Target especially with the $5 off $10 purchase! They honor two coupons per visit, which is awesome (my favorite thing about this place)! I'm usually always greeted and the amount of products they hold is vast! From makeup to body wash to nail polishes to hair products and much more! I haven't had a bad experience with the sales rep and checkout has always been painless for me. When the line gets to more than 2 people waiting the cashier always push the buzzer to let the other employees know another cashier is needed. Only complaint: my gf had used the $5 off $10 coupon and there was a sale for buy 1 get 1 50% off Treseme product. She was able to use her $5 off $10 coupon and get the buy 1 get 1 50% off so she saved quite a bit of money. However, when I went in the next day I was denied the same transaction! I'm not a fan of inconsistency. Just hope the managers make a better effort to their employees of the coupon policies. read more

This is a review for the Ulta Salon Service. I got my haircut here for the first time this morning and was really easy booking the appointment online, even the night before. Getting to the appointment, I was a little late but they said it was no problem and were very nice about it. I sat down in the chair with Cassandra and told her exactly what I wanted: about 2 inches off, long layers so it's not too blunt, and few face-framing pieces. She was honestly so nice, relatable, and had a good conversation. The total time was exactly an hour! For any of the bad reviews, I think it's better to know what to ask your stylist for rather than assuming they know exactly how you want your hair cut, colored, & whatever. Edit to my previous post I have called Ulta several times before this and specifically would ask if someone can do my hair would be comfortable with texture/African-American hair and this store specifically told me that there was no one at the store that was comfortable to do African American hair. This happened more than once calling Oak Brook location and the location in Downers Grove. Wow but I always try to call because their Keratin treatment are the cheapest around and I've been turned away more than a few times because no one was comfortable to do my hair. Got my hair cut here and it was a horrible decision. The stylist had bad manners but I continued with the appointment - that was a mistake. She was very rough with her brush and when I got home I noticed that I was literally bleeding from the force she had used when brushing my hair. As an FYI- I simply got a three inch trim (no layers, color, treatment, etc.) - I thought this was a necessary skill for hair dressers... I was wrong. This place got a major overhaul last year and has been looking great ever since. They just got a Benefit brow bar...what, what! Awesome. The woman at the Benefit counter asked if I needed help, I said that I didn't and she left me alone- love it. But then she got wrangled into putting some touch ups on a training employee that was UBER obnoxious and had to have been on some sort of Jesus Juice because I refuse to believe that she passed an interview appearing that soused. Anyway, I'm at the Benefit counter and it turns out that I do need help... and lots of it as I try everything on my now bruised looking, multicolored hand. The Benefit woman snuck in and offered me her brush to use and then proceeded to give me the necessary details for a number of products I was interested in and she answered all of my newly formed questions. She was FABULOUS and I will defo be back for more Benefit products. As for the check out process... mmm, much to be desired. The line started to get really long because an older woman was trying to haggle and bargain for products- it's not a swap meet, welcome to 2009 retail, lady. Anyway, there was only 1 cashier as that new employee that was gabby by the Benefit counter looked on and laughed while talking loudly about how she would help but she doesn't know anything... then yells "SOOORRRYYY, SOOORRRYYY,SOOORRRYYY" over and over again in the most nasally, slurry way possible... mind numbing. Finally, a manager steps over and offers to train her on the register as the line was wrapping halfway to the back of the store. Who's her lucky first customer? Moi. Anyway, Drunky McDrunkerson proceeds to yell my order at me, and scream "WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR 2 FREE ISSUES OF ALLURE MAGAZINE SENT?" Ugh. I don't want them, please stop screaming at me. Also, they had to look up my Ulta card which required me to give her my personal information. And that was my personal information that she yelled sooo loudly back at me while typing that my boyfriend, who was at the back of the store, heard and rushed over thinking something something was wrong after hearing my address being screamed. Anyway, besides the over-served newbie, the store is fabulous and they're conveniently located in a shopping strip with a World Market, DSW, and Nordstrom rack so there's no need to even put my credit card down. read more

Hip Hip Hooray! I'm a fan of Ulta. Really, there's no denying. I'm a true blond from the top of my cowlick to the furrow of my sparsely flaxen brows. So, I'm blessed with the "porcelain" (Casper-like) visage of my Northern European ancestors whom, lucky for them, could frolic carefree in the Alps with their palefaced sisters before foundation, and the frustration associated with it, was invented. They never predicted that searching for the perfect shade would be akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Nor would they have ever thought that a woman would shell out hard earned money time and time again only to find that her complexion is off the radar of the advances in cosmetic technologies. If they only knew, they would be proud that, against all odds, this paleface found the light at the end of the dark, tanned tunnel. I'm speaking of course about Ulta. They have a cornucopia of colors in which to choose AND with their lenient return policy, I don't have to live with a face darker than the rest of my body. I can try it, bring it back, and try again! There's that Old World perseverance paying off! The money I saved can afford the awesome drugstore brand BOGO deals here. I can get my perfect shade with enough cash left over to add some color to my, well, you know, my impossibly paleface. My mug is living proof I truly am a fan. read more

5 stars for store manager, Amy, who provided excellent customer service for a tricky exchange on a flat iron. I so appreciated her patience, expertise of store policy and her final resolution. I left a happy customer and they definitely have my customer loyalty in return! The store is always tidy! I am so glad they they reconfigured the design here to put products back in groupings by brand rather than by product type "eye bar", "lip bar", etc. I wasn't crazy about that and find it is much easier to shop by brand. Great selection of salon hair care products, cosmetics, nail polish and electrical hair appliances. I love that you can try the fragrances before you buy. Went in for a trim just moving to the area I didn't know where to go... told her 1.5-2 inches off. She said the back was uneven and had to take a little more off. I said .5 more is ok... also told her to cut my side bangs dry... I told her they lay just below the corner of my eye... over 6 inches off and having to rep legit bangs now bc she didn't listen and was cut happy... sad part is I came in with my hair down and done so she knew what I look I was going for... now my hair is blunt and short that took me over 2 years to grow out. i went to ulta with my friends just to look around because we were bored and we went to the foundation section and this worker came up to us and asked if we need help looking for anything as usually which seems normal UNTIL she started to follow us around and i didn't notice it at first until i was just seeing what my foundation shade was and she was staring at me and after i had left that section she started to follow me around and i had noticed it after a couple minutes later and i went with my friends and she kept following us around the store and when we would touch something or try it out she would go right away and check it and fix it and we had realized that we were being followed constantly so we had left the store because we felt uncomfortable but then minutes later we came back because i wanted to buy something and the same lady started to follow us around again... every time we would go to a different section and we would notice how she kept staring at us and i noticed her looking at us through the mirror and she came to where we were and was just standing there next to us staring at us. we also noticed how she was telling other employees something and they would look at us after and she was pointing at us. worst experience ever read more

Additionally, I bought a faulty curling iron a couple months ago. Brought it back yesterday without a box or a receipt. For some reason she acted like she wanted me to get away as soon as possible. Soured what I'd have liked to have been a nice shopping experience. Maybe they don't pay them enough. I have been seeing Cristina at the salon to do my hair since we moved to the western suburbs. She always does a fabulous job, and I love how I can book online! It's great that the salon also counts towards reward points (and sometimes they offer extra point days in salon services)- then I can use all those reward dollars on more makeup! I try hard not to give a bad review for a store that specializes in all things pretty. They have smell pretties, look pretties, and hair pretties. That being said... If you are in the OBT, go down the block to Sephora! I am on my way home from a movie/lunch date with my moms and I decide to make a quick stop at Ulta as my undereye bags are out of control. An employee offers assistance but only when she can take a moment from caking on another layer of clowny goodness. Don't get me wrong. This is a make-up store but employee had a nice circle of foundation. If she cannot even pick her colors right, how is she supposed to provide good advice? I told her exactly what I was looking for and she told me they do not make any such product. We proceeded to argue as she led me to a concealer. I have concealer. I placated her but then found a fabulous product when she let me be. Now, if you go midday on a Saturday, this joint is packed and there are usually knowledgeable employees in the make-up department. I now only come here during peak shopping hours if I want any sort of knowledgeable assistance. It was remodeled and reopened in 2007. They have a good variety of the higher end product lines such as vichy and DDF. The hair salon section is really tiny but the ladies do very well, particularly the eyebrow and facial specialist. Very good selection of cosmetics, hair care and accessories. Just all around my favorite store for Ulta. Don't forget to join their member card club for discounts and special freebies, as well as don't forget to go online and print your "weekly" dollars off coupon. read more
