From the moment I walked in the Fringe Experience was definitely a delightful experience.I was greeted by Karli who was extremely kind.She offered me a beverage and took my coat to the coat room.Ironically I knew her from a previous salon she is amazing.Zee then came a got to me to talk about what I wanted done with my hair.She then took me to the shampoo room where I received an amazing hair wash. Zee gave me the most AMAZING haircut.I have received many compliments from my coworkers.After years of searching I have finally found my place! I've been going to fringe for at least 5 years and have had great service. The women are professional and make it feel like a spa experience. The shampoo room is literally designed like a mini spa and it is heavenly! Fringe has curly cuts for curly hair and I have also had great color services done here. The one thing I always struggle with here is scheduling, you do have to book pretty far in advance and often I have a really hard time getting a time in the evenings or on weekends. Most available times seem to be during regular working hours which is hard for those with a 9-5. But would definitely recommend Fringe for a great hair appointment and relaxing spa experience. BONUS! Update: The "minor adjustments" were mistakes that had to be corrected, the makeup is done in a very dark room so I wasn't able to see all the details. Completely unprofessional response you had there too. And me saying the place is "nice" has to do with the environment not your service don't get it twisted. I had my makeup done for a family event- it was a disaster- very unprofessional, the lady who did my makeup, and she call her self an artist doesn't know anything about makeup, ruined my eyeliner, eyebrows, choose wrong colors of eyeshadow and foundation- turned my color to brown instead of brighter colors- didn't even know about how to contour my nose . I had to wipe my fave at home , and redo my makeup again by myself- if you're looking for good makeup artist this is the wrong place to go to read more

Everybody here is so nice, and Sophie is the best! I wasn't sure what kind of cut I needed and they answered my email super quick and with lots of detail. They helped me set up an appointment with a hair stylist who would be a good fit for my hair. The place is super nice and clean, and Sophie was AMAZING. She knew exactly what to do with my wavy curly hair and checked in frequently to make sure I liked what she was doing. She also styled my hair exactly the way I do at home to make sure the cut would actually work for me. She is a great educator and offered suggestions without ever pushing product. They gave great haircuts but I won't be back. I am not impressed with the service I just had on the phone though.. the staff member kept speaking over me which is so incredibly rude. I wanted an appt and was all set until the staff member told me "oops, your card on file expired", and told me she could not save the appointment without a card, which I would understand HOWEVER I was not in a place where I could read my credit card information privately.. so I asked if I could call back and give the card this afternoon when I was not in a public setting, she said absolutely not and proceeded to talk over me. Not a good vibe, especially since I have been a client for years.. I hope this service improves. Please train front staff not to talk over a customer. Updates to respond to owner: I called back and had to whisper my credit card in public because THEY WOULD NOT HOLD THE APPOINTMENT- your comment doesn't even make sense. Absolutely butchered my hair. I came in for an emergency color correction after another salon gave me completely the wrong shade, and do at least have to give them kudos for making time and fitting me in. However, they made the problem much much worse. Their solution was to strip the color and bleach it for hours on end. I asked several times "how damaged is my hair going to be after this?" and they kept reassuring me it was going to be fine. (Spoiler alert: it was not fine). My hair is an ugly brown-blonde shade that clashes with my skin now, with streaky patches of pink running through it that didn't actually lift out, and it is absolutely fried. My curl pattern is completely gone leaving it a frizzy mess, and chunks of hair come out every time I brush it in the shower. I was actively crying as I paid because I knew just how bad it was going to be. It would have been much, much easier to explain the mixup at the first salon than it was to show up to dinner with this mess. Never again. Edit to include: my scalp is scabbing and flaking right now. I told them my head was burning and itching, and later on said that it actively hurt, and their response was to apologize give me a comb to scratch with. I found Fringe when I was working in Lombard. I was looking for a salon that specializes in curly cuts. They booked me with Jen, she did a fantastic cut, and color. That was about 3 1/2 years ago. I no longer work in Lombard, so the drive is about 35 minutes. I am so okay with the drive. Jen is so sweet, and my hair always looks great! Can't think of going else where. Writing this review in hopes that this company changes it's policy. I am being charged a FULL SERVICE FEE for RESCHEDULING my appointment. An appointment that they themselves rescheduled initially by texting me "change your appointment to 10:30".... I can completely understand that their time is valuable, but if I'm rescheduling due to unforeseen circumstances, it's not like I'm cancelling and never coming back. The full service charge is $150..So the expectation is that I pay that AND THEN pay again for my service. This is just terrible terrible customer service. Updated, back to say.... I still love everything about Fringe! I made a change from my previous stylist to see McKenzie 18 months ago and I have not once left unhappy or disappointed. I get a color (foils) and cut every 6-8 weeks. My hair is the only thing I really spend money on for myself--I'm not into clothes or shoes or nails--and I always leave Fringe feeling better than when I came in. I have been here a couple times personally and never had a good experience, but the shop is local and I keep trying to like it. I brought my 20 month old in for her first haircut and it turned out pretty good, but it was a 5 minute appointment and was like 40.00 (with a small tip). I was embarrassed for them. How can you charge that? Totally ridiculous. Also the website says starts at 27.00 which is already higher than anywhere else I researched but I didn't think it would end up that high! A friend of mine had terrible experience with Fringe. She drove 45 mins to this salon after careful review. She originally came for a color and trim - and left botched. The stylist Jen who is "Deva curl certified" cut my friends curly hair too short - when she trusted in her to have the knowledge to style her hair being she is certified. unhappy and completely hurt - years of growth and maintenance lost. She contacted Jen, who did politely apologize and offered to scheduled a new appointment to bring her original color back. 30 mins. Prior to the appointment Jen apologizes again - stating she was told by her boss she still has to charge for the product. My friend calls me crying, Jen contacted her 30 mins before the appointment and as i stated in the beginning of my review my friends commute was already 45 mins out she was already nearby! Completely ridden of her confidence and terribly upset and stressed because she has a graduation coming up which is why she even got her hair done to begin with! Trying to salvage the situation i call the salon and request to speak with a manager - the lady stated no management would be in until the next day. After explaining to her the situation - she stated "color correction " can be done if client is not satisfied , however since my friend wanted her original color back a fee applies - i asked her if employees are trained to know the pricing for the services she said yes. I explained to her my friend was clear she wanted her original color back - unfortunately Jen the certified stylist had to be reminded by her boss of the pricing/policy of the services which brought her to apologizing once more. At that point she stated my friend will just have to WAIT for the owner to contact her ...even though my friend received a Service she was unhappy with, and inconvenienced a second time for... After speaking with my friend - she decided she would no longer wanted to deal with the stress the company has caused her. Not a curly hair friendly salon! If you have straight hair then you might actually love this place. Everyone is super nice and the experinace is actually awesome but everyone that left with good haircuts had fairly straight hair. I specifically chose this place because they offer curly hair specialists. I left with 6 inches of hair gone and awful layering because my hair was cut wet instead of dry. On top of that I the color I recieved was all one tone and dull. I did get in contact with the salon and the salon owner did offer to fix my layers but the color was "close enough" to the color I wanted so I was told I would have to pay to fix the color. My other option was to "shampoo out the color given that's not a perment dye"...not a response I would like to hear from a salon since this dye still will stick for at least 6 months. Definitely will not be coming back. Going to a salon that charges like they do I expect the color to give my hair some definition and not a diy box dye finish. I paid over $200 and ended up with a color I hated, lost half of my hair, and overall horrible shape of my hair. In the end I was refunded $50 for the botched layering but no changes were fixed. This is the worst cut I've ever been forced to endure. With some tight & some loose curls, a pesky cowlick, thicker growth zones and frizz, you can imagine, I've been a challenge for many a stylist. But Felicia is a butcher. These pictures tell it all. I made a point to make mention of ALL those issues before one single snip. And after a VERY lengthy dissertation from Felicia about what a knowledgeable expert she is I felt safe in her young, Deva certified hands. 2 hours later, I fought back tears as I left. I went to the restroom at the coffee shop on the corner and locked myself in to cry. Then I sat in my car to cry. And I've cried every day since. After cutting my own hair for two years to keep it away from scissor happy stylists who don't understand the complexity of curls, & stylists with God complexes who think they know me better than I do, and letting it go untrimmed for a year to get some length back, I was thrilled to discover Deva curl. But as you can see, Felicia not only cost me a year of growth, but added at least a year of new growth to get back where I was before Edward Scissor Hands on acid got to me. I SPECIFICALLY said I didn't want to lose length. Just clean up the style. I SPECIFICALLY said I was letting the curls go natural to save time because I don't have time to style. Now I spend HOURS air drying & styling daily to hide this atrocity. I've considered a wig. As if it's not hard enough to be a middle aged woman. As if the frizz and the phase of giving up dye doesn't make me look crazy enough. Go ahead & laugh it off, Fringe. Go ahead and blame the victim, Felicia. But a bad haircut is on par with assault & battery. At least victims of sex and violent crimes can hide their scars and shame under their clothes and in the dark recesses of their minds. But this? This is exposed! On my head! surrounding my face! For everyone to see...and judge... ALL THE TIME. Readers... please see Fringe's response to this review. I'll post a screenshot in case it gets removed. -She says only Felicia was present at my consultation. There was a trainee present the ENTIRE time. -She also says I was warned that I should have expected these results. How can she claim I was warned, if nobody else was present? -the section that she refers to (and accuses me of cutting) is on my left side toward the back. The giant gap you see in the photo is on my right. -She is accusing me of doing this to myself. -She said I should have spoke up. I did. The receptionist asked how my experience was. I showed her my inspiration picture and said "You tell me." She cocked her head, looked from pic to me to pic and after contemplating finally said 'I can sort of see it. Maybe when it grows out.' Who in their right mind would submit to further butchery in an effort to fix it? Unless you add extensions, there's no fixing it. My most valuable, non-renewable resource, (time), is gone forever. My appearance is embarrassing and now you've insulted me by blaming me. My next step is to send this correspondence to Deva Curl headquarters. read more

I was looking for a salon with a stylist who has been vaccinated and an appointment was scheduled for me. Later in the day the owner e-mailed me that her salon does not disclose whether their employees are vaccinated or not. She stated it is a privacy issue that they do not want to 'expound' upon out of respect for the stylist. She cancelled my appointment! Note that a private business can require employees to be vaxed. It is not a HIPPA violation for a salon to honor a customer's request for an appointment with a vaxed stylist. If I am going to spend time and money with a stylist who cannot socially distance, regardless as to whether or not they mask, then it seems they should take every reasonable precaution to ensure my safety and security. We now have an FDA approved vaccine against a deadly virus that is spread by respiratory droplets from others who are in close contact. Infected individuals can be asymptomatic. If a customer has to show proof of vaccine and/or a negative test to go to attend a concert, travel, or in some cases - even to dine, then why should I have to roll the dice when I'm getting a hair cut? read more

This establishment is filled with exceptional service through and through. From the receptionist to the stylists and everything in between. Everyone is so nice and helpful here. I've visited twice now and while the first visit was difficult to plan with my busy schedule, it seems like it's going to be smooth sailing from here. I selected this location from the Deva Curl website based on the vicinity to my house. It's not too far and it's a super cute location in downtown Lombard. Parking has been easy (and free) each time I've gone! Jen has done my Deva cut both times, the first time taking the time to understand what I was looking for in my hair and the second was for a trim/touch up as my short curly hair is growing out, to help it grow evenly. One of the first things I noticed about Jen was her super curly hair! It was so nice to be advised and styled by someone with similar hair to mine and who seemingly takes pride in their curls. I spent more than 25 years hating my hair and Jen made all of that change. She helped me better understand my hair and what it needs to stay healthy! It's also nice they have the products I need in the salon for purchase. Also, to be able to discuss products with someone knowledgeable who can share and speak from their own experiences. I recently won a full size Deva Curl product from a recent giveaway promotion they did! I picked it up on my last visit and Jen was sweet enough to throw in extra samples to try by Deva Curl! While I was there, I shared that I had a friend who wanted to come see her and she told me her schedule was filling up fast. I notified my friend and she was able to call right away, send in her curly head shots and get her first appointment in! Plus she gets $20 off since I referred her, and I will get the same on my next visit! They also give goody bags to new customers with coupons and samples based on your hair type! Other things I noticed and loved: the color bar, you sit at a bar while getting your hair colored! So cute. They're a green salon, they recycle everything they possibly can. And the friendliness of everyone there. They must love this place, everyone is always all smiles and laughter. read more

Do not go here if you want a Deva Cut. I went here because I moved and needed a new salon, and told the stylist I wanted to go a bit shorter. She went WAY overboard and took off like 4 more inches than I asked for. She didn't cut the curls individually like a deva stylist typically does, and had no clue how to do a true Deva cut. She knew how to use Deva products and basically acted like that meant she was a Deva stylist? I've been in tears all morning because it's going to take years to grow back my hair. I am so upset I didn't read reviews before going because now I see other negative ones about curls. Do not advertise that you can do curly hair if you completely cannot. It's false advertising and then people end up in tears about their hair. read more

Let me start off by saying that my stylus was very nice and my cut was ok. But the Diva cut and transformation consisted of nothing more than a haircut, wash, and dry under a large hair dryer. I'm not sure if my stylist had ever worked on my texture of hair before. She used a clarifying shampoo that stripped all of the oils out of my hair. After using a clarifying shampoo, I usually deep condition or use a leave in to put the moisture back. She used a very light curl cream and a light gel. With my thick curly hair, I needed something more hydrating for my hair. She did not work the product into my hair at all. And the way she scrunched my hair left it frizzy. One of the other stylists had suggested that she used the Denman brush to define my curls. That made me think she had never worked my texture of hair before. When I left, my roots were still wet, and by the time I got to the car, my hair was a frizzy mess. I guess the other transformations that I had seen being done at other salons is what I was expecting. Where they take their time and work the product into your hair, define your curls and diffuse so you have little to no frizz. It is a beautiful shop and everyone was so nice. This was my First experience at fringe and it will not happen again. Zee did balayage my hair and it turned out really bad. She burned my hair and turned it into multiple colors. I used to go to a salon in chicago and never had a bad experience about my hair in my whole life. This is the first time i am experiencing a bad service.
