Went to Michigan for a weekend trip with my friend Roro (not her real name, but it feels right). We could've gone to a museum, tried local food, maybe enjoyed nature, but no. Straight to Sephora. Did I abuse the perfume testers? Brother, I didn't just abuse them, I waterboarded my nostrils. I walked out smelling like a divorced millionaire who summers in Monaco, a middle school boy drowning in Axe, and a fresh bouquet at the same time. My shirt had so many scents on it, TSA probably thinks I'm trafficking fragrances. Women got it good, entire kingdoms of skincare and makeup. Men? We get one rusty bottle of "All-in-One" that promises shampoo, conditioner, face wash, and maybe even motor oil. Not fair. I wanted to share an unfortunate experience I had yesterday at Sephora during a return. I brought back four items, two of which were outside the 30-day return window--something I was unaware of, as I thought the policy was still 60 days. I fully acknowledged my misunderstanding and apologized. Despite agreeing to process the return--two items for a full refund and two for an exchange--the manager I dealt with was rude, condescending, and unnecessarily loud throughout the interaction. When I politely said I hadn't realized the return policy had changed, she sharply responded, "You should know--it's on your receipt and everywhere." I had brought replacement items for the exchange, but was abruptly told to go back and stand in line again. When I mentioned that I believed in the past you could proceed to the next available cashier, she raised her voice and said, "You need to go to the back of the line," visibly frustrated. Back at the cashier, she loudly announced, "This is the last time," drawing attention from others in the store. She then incorrectly claimed that three of the items were past the return window. When I calmly pointed out that only two were older than 30 days and offered proof, she admitted she didn't know which ones were which--yet continued to argue. Throughout the process, she was dismissive and degrading. At one point, she told me I had a $4 credit left. I responded that I didn't mind losing the $4, but she snapped back, "Don't you understand what I'm telling you? It matters!"--again, loudly enough to make everyone around visibly uncomfortable. I completed the exchange and paid the difference, but was left feeling deeply disrespected. As someone who works in healthcare and had just finished a long shift, I was shocked by how I was treated over a $60 transaction. The lack of professionalism and empathy was truly disappointing. More than just how she spoke to me and treated me, it was the clear disdain she showed while serving me that was most upsetting. I work in healthcare and had just come from the hospital in my uniform after starting my day at 4:30 a.m. She should not be in a customer-facing role. The way she chastised me over a $60 exchange was completely inappropriate. Even as I was leaving, she continued to remind me that I was wrong--so much so that others in line were staring in disbelief. The lady I dealt with was fully tatooed, nothing against tatoos i have some-just steer clear of her. On the plus side, there's one woman who provides outstanding service--she's tall with a hint of pink in her hair. She actively seeks out customers and makes sure they leave satisfied with the item they were looking for read more

Constantly there are employees that come up to you and ask if you need help finding anything. Which is fine if it was once but guess what? If I needed help, I would ask. I don't need four girls to come over when I am going through the store to ask what I need of help with. One girl in particular seemed very eager to help me out, as if she was getting a commission of my sale. She came off as very pushy and kept persisting that I should look at this or try this. I didn't even ask for her help! If it's sephoras rule they get so much commission of my sale, I'm fine with that. I had the worst experience one lady was absolutely hated the fact that she had to help me find my foundation and the gentleman girl. Yes, I said it gentleman girl was so freaking rude to me and my 10-year-old daughter mind you I had over $150 worth of product already in my basket. The stupid employee gave us 7 items that have been opened and used.. my friend tried to return them and they refused to return $200+ worth of items after they made a mistake and gave us opened items and even some that were almost empty.. This location has terrible customer service because when I entered no one greeted me or ask what I was looking for. I had a problem looking for a specific product but couldn't get any help due to the fact the employee was talking with a friend of hers for a long specific amount of time. So I eventually find my product then went to check out. The employee was still talking to her friend and had to wait 20 minutes to get to checked out and still wasn't there. Samantha is so great every time I come in. I wanted to start with something positive because I am a skincare addict and buy buy buy, so ultimately I want to go to Sephora as they dominate the market. Unfortunately my last few encounters with CeCe will deter me from coming back. I just cant stand her attitude. I ask questions out of sincere interest and if I ask for a sample its because I really want to try it. She acts like she is giving away bottles and is angry if u ask something that may be available online only. Its made for an uncomfortable experience. The last visit I made to this location was for my little sisters birthday to which she had a gift card. My sister is 10 and super into skin care so she begged me to take her to use her Sephora gift card and I obliged. I rarely come to this location because of the staff. I don't carry a purse or anything like that I prefer to keep my card in my phone so I had nothing else on my person and was also carrying my sisters gift card in my phone. An employee asked if we needed help, which I replied no thank you she knows what she's here for. That employee proceeded to follow us around the store to the point where I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave. The only reason I didn't walk out was because like I said it was my sisters birthday and she really wanted these items. I understand watching out for theft but like I said I had nothing on my person and along with that we had a basket to which my sister was putting the stuff in that she wanted to purchase. Honestly felt that I was being profiled. The staff needs to learn how to properly handle theft prevention. I have worked in retail a long time and would never approach someone like that, maybe watch out for the people with huge bags and sketchy behavior instead of judging people based of appearance. Sephora is my favorite place to purchase makeup. I love the fact that they carry high end brands. Nars has become a favorite of mine and I mainly purchase it here. There's always an abundance of sales associates to help, and they are knowledgeable about the products. I receive the monthly Play box which includes a voucher to earn 50 additional beauty points if you make any purchase during the month. Yes, they sucker me into purchasing something every month. I was very pleased with my experience here and have been here multiple times! The customer service is amazing and the ladies are very helpful and sweet! They really care for taking care of you here! The last time I came here a very lovely lady saw me checking out some lipstick at the checkout counter and asked if I like natural lipstick which I do! I love a natural beauty I can help to enhance my own inner beauty on a day to day! She recommended The Glow Recipe Lip Pop in Blueberry Bounce which is nourishing and smoothing to the lips and you can use it as a natural lip treatment which gives your lips a nice boost of color and feels like a lightweight balm instead of a full on lipstick! It does need to be reapplied from time to time but I really loved how my lips looked everytime! It's the most beautiful flush of just a pretty pink to your lips! I love that she shared her wisdom with me and I love my purchase! Thanks Beautiful!! I also love my purchase of the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Palette! I was so happy to purchase it because I was supposed to get it in the Ipsy X Bag but they cancelled my purchase so I just bought it myself! It's totally worth it!! I couldn't be happier!! Sephora has always been my favorite place to splurge and feel Beautiful! I love their perk points and how they really want to help you to feel your most Beautiful Self! I love all things makeup, perfume, and hair products. What can I say? It's good to be a girl! So walking into Sephora, I can barely contain myself as I'm captures by the colors, scents, the bright lights, and the mirrors. Sephora has something for everyone and can cover all needs. Dry hair? Check! Natural hair? Check! Blonde hair? Check! Beach hair? Check! They also carry men's cologne, so you can pick up your goods and snag something for your man on the way out. Sephora also carries a wide variety of makeup brands, such as Dior, Urban Decay, Makeup Forver, Stila, and the Sephora store brand (which is very impressive). They also sell nail color, hair products, and facial products like the coveted Clairsonic facial brush! What are you waiting for? Get to Sephora stat! I used to but 80% sephora and 20% MAC, but ever since sephore started carrying cover fx it's now 100% sephora. I have to say that there has been a few times when I'm browsing and the staff is highly annoying, but there's other times where I welcome it if I'm bored and feel like being nice. Cover fx, NARS, and urban decay all now 15 minutes away in one place. The staff is generally knowledgable, but I've found ones that I could do their job better. I only say that because I work and grew up in the salon industry, which makes me a snob to say the very very least. It's always clean and well stocked. Their packaging is sometimes not in the best shape so I always find myself picking from the very back/bottom of product shelves. I've only purchased one bad product, as in the mascara was hard and clumpy, and they exchanged it with receipt for a new one. Their stupid sephora points are whatever. I used to love this Sephora location because it's close to my parents' house. However, the customer service has really digressed within the last year. The staff are very snooty and not friendly. I went to visit at 2 pm on a Friday afternoon when the store didn't have very many customers, and instead of anyone offering me any help, staff members were just standing around gossiping with each other. Whoa, I have not yet reviewed this Sephora? Sacrilege! This particular Sephora is my home away from home and one of the very few reasons I hit up Twelve Oaks Mall. Usually it is an in&out type of deal as I'll run out of something and need to replenish, but on those ocassions when I like to stroll and peruse the aisles of beautycandy, I do not feel pressured by staff. This store carries some of my favorite makeup brands like NARS, MUFE and Urban Decay and has a large selection of other brands such as Anastasia, Benefit, Smashbox, and they now carry Cover FX as well. Per usual a massive wall of perfume is on one end of the store and in the back you will find skincare products by a plethora of great (and some not so great) brands. The staff itself always makes a point to greet people as they come in and are happy to help you find products, apply make up, do a skin-match test and the likes. They don't have any qualms about providing samples in any of their departments, which if you have finicky skin like myself, is a helpful thing. Actually, if you have purchased something you are not happy with you can return it without problems. They have a "Beauty Insider" points program which you can redeem for select products which are on rotation (usually not really worth it, but hey - it's free and a good way to become familiar with a new brand or product I suppose). Also - free birthday gifts when you sign up (which are usually small versions of popular sellers)..cute! read more

I love all the interesting products here. I am still a makeup newbie and a little overwhelmed, but I can tell you that I love the basic sephora black eyeliner with built in smudger. $12 and my sensitive eyes have no problems with it. If you join the birthday club, you get a free gift during your birthday month. That's a lot of fun. Lots of samples to try here and most staff are helpful. Caveat: A girlfriend treated me to make over here and I had a terrible time. The woman and I just didn't gel, and she didn't like all of my questions. I can't help myself. I treat Sephora like my own personal playground. I love being able to try on everything in the store, which means I usually wind up with products I really like. The return policy is great - they take back almost anything. Sometimes popular products are out of stock, especially Urban Decay palettes. The lines can be long at the checkout, but move along pretty quickly. I've found that the staff can be really pushy about giving me a basket, even if I'm only carrying one item. I'm starting to wonder if they get a bonus for every one they hand out. One thing I wish Sephora would do is offer three samples in the store like they do when you buy from the website, but that's okay. I'm just strategic about it now. If I'm not in a hurry and they have good samples online, I shop there. read more

I had a 4:00 appointment for a 60-minute make up session. I didn't realize when I arrived that there had been a mixup in the website and I had accidentally scheduled for the wrong location, a location that was nowhere near me. I have no idea how this happened and I will take this up with the people at their website support. However, I asked if I could schedule something while I was there. For that day or the next day. They explained that I had to schedule it on the website, but I showed them that when I tried to log onto the website something has been going on and it won't accept my password, and I am unable to reset the password as well. The only response from the people there was basically a shrug. The one woman actually turned her back on me instead of offering to assist. I was there for a whole coaching session and had planned on purchasing most of the products that they recommended because my son's wedding is coming up and I need to revamp my makeup. However, absolutely no one was willing to try to help me figure out a way to fix the problem and set up an appointment for me, although there were three or four people standing there not doing much. I felt condescended and I felt like a secondhand citizen. It felt like they had sized me up and decided that I was not worth their time. read more

I really struggled with whether or not to post this negative review, but my experience at this Sephora was horrid. I visited recently, because I had a free afternoon, and some gift cards in my purse taunting me. On top of the gift cards, I planned to spend at least $100. I was looking for a pleasurable way to perk up a blah winter day, but from the second I entered the store, my hopes came to an abrupt stop. I do enjoy going to Sephora to look, but I normally am armed with a list of particular products to buy. I am a HUGELY passionate makeup fan, and I know exactly what to look for in makeup. So, I normally don't need to ask the sales associates questions. I prefer to be greeted, then left to browse. Especially when I plan to drop serious money. I was followed from aisle to aisle, and within an hour I was asked no less than 30 times if I needed help. I work in the service industry, so I was patient, at first. Finally, I encountered a particularly pushy sales associate, and politely told her, "You all are taking turns asking me if I need help, and im fine. Thank you". She cut me off, and actually said, "It's my JOB to ask if you need help. So, I will continue to check on you". Are you kidding me?!?! I am a hard working college student, and a grown woman. I do NOT need a babysitter. Or "help" from a rude, middle aged woman with no sense of style. I felt lower then pond scum. Normally, I love Sephora and I never have any troubles whatsoever going bankrupt in their stores. My issue today is more of an ongoing annoyance than anything else. The story goes something like this.... A while back, my husband decided to do something nice for me and purchase two Urban Decay palettes as a gift, which ended up being the Naked 2 and 3. Now what he did know is that Im a huge UD fan, but what he didnt know was that I was already the proud owner of the Naked 2. So here I find myself with double the makeup, double the fun when I figure "hey, why not swap this one and get the original Naked instead!" Easy peasy right? WRONG! We make our way to the store and work through the line only to be told the palette is out of stock :( OK, nbd, these things happen. The girl at the register gives me a list of all the other stores in the greater metro detroit area that claim to have this palette and says I can check back on Friday because thats when the deliveries come. So I wait....and wait.....and wait....and finally Friday is here!!! I call and ask if the shipment had come in only to be informed that it had in fact arrived but they JUST sold the last Naked. oh me and my impeccable timing! I was then told if I wanted to, I could try again on Friday when the next shipment came in. Long story short, Friday comes and goes and Im still left with no palette bc they keep "just selling" the last one and this "store credit" card is still burning a hole in my pocket because I can only use it in the actual store - no online purchases allowed...I tried. All in all i guess this is a lesson for me that maybe I dont need anymore eyeshadow and the next time Im told to come back on Friday, I should probably ask them to specify WHICH Friday -____- read more

I rarely buy any makeup from Sephora because of the price. After doing my homework, I like to come in the store and play with the samples and see if I like them enough to buy them elsewhere. Shhhh! As a makeup artist I tend to be "that person"-- overly critical regarding all things beauty. However, when I go into Sephora I'm pleasantly surprised. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, and the store is kept clean and up-to-date. Did I mention I LOVE samples? ( I need to be careful though, because almost every sample I try makes me want to buy the product... easy way to spend too much money!) Back to my point--the staff is never stingy with samples and will gladly give you a plethora of perfume samples to try at home. I ended up purchasing a D & G perfume, Marc Jacobs perfume, and many others based solely on getting a sample and enjoying it. I'm also pleased they stand behind their products. I purchased a Lorac Eyeliner which ended up breaking after the first use. I was able to easily exchange it for a different one with no questions asked. Their rewards program is a plus also! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sephora. I just don't love THIS Sephora. I went in after work one day to see if they had a few things. There were at least 10 employees in the store, and only a handful of customers. I was not greeted, offered assistance or even acknowledged. I've gotten decent service there approximately twice, and always by the same 2 girls. I don't know their names, but unfortunately I have no plans on going in the Novi store again so I'll never learn them. Save yourself and shop at another location. read more

Today I stopped in to look for a face mask I had heard about and Denise "helped" me. I told her I didn't know exactly what it was but it helped with blackheads and that I was just looking. She showed me a mask I hadn't seen before and put a sample of it on my hand and stared at it until I rubbed it in. She explained how to use the product and later told me I rubbed it too thin, as if I should know the specifics of a product I had never used before. Her attitude and tone completely ruined my shopping experience. She spoke to me in a degrading manner our entire interaction and repetitively told me that the mask I described doesn't exist at their store. After she walked away I overheard her say she was clocking out on her break so you can assume where her priorities probably were at that moment. I will not be returning to this Sephora as this is not the first negative experience I have had at this location. read more
