This is an extremely busy store. They have a lot of brands, some of the really high end ones like Giorgio Armani and Guerlain. They also have a very big area for quick makeovers but the wait looked quite long. The samples look very used and abused, before using one I would douse it with alcohol wipe it with a tissue and douse it again. The staff appears very haggard and overworked. I walked around the store for almost and hour and not one person asked me if I needed help. If you are in Time Square and have to kill some time or warm up, pop in and you will see what I mean. read more

I walked in here because I had the Spring Makeover via being a member of the Sephora VIB. The sales reps here are different (friendlier) than the one at 42nd and Madison. I had an appointment with Samantha to do my make-up. Had the 45 minute makeover and she made it to 90 minute. Samantha was awesome! She explained everything from eyebrow to eye shadow to foundation and lipstick. I was shocked with the aftermath of make-up and color haha. The inventory and the store is huge. Makeup is on the right of the skin and skincare is on the left. Yes, the space is narrow when you are in-between rows of make-up and bottles, but just say "excuse me" and hope it's not a tourist that doesn't understand English. Hello Kitty had a 30% sale of its inventory and me being a huge fan, I went overboard-no.... I got the pink grapefruit lip gloss and 2 eyeshadow creamy stick - kimono (blue) and cream puff (lavender). The nail polish are too light and not worth the money. Well-organized and beautiful Sephora that employs some of the most helpful and knowledgeable advisors I'd ever encountered on the make-up side. They really work with you to find the best products for your preferences. I've been so impressed every time by how patient they are and how willing they are to stick with me until we both find something I like. On the other hand, there's the skincare section. Again--well-organized and beautiful. But product promoters who look like Sephora advisors will approach you, as a Sephora advisor would, ask you what you need and then direct you to products they're paid to sell without disclosing/signaling their affiliations. It feels icky. I had two of these approach me last time I was in there and direct me to $70-$90 products after I said I was looking for something inexpensive. This store is in the southern part of Times Square near the Nasdaq building on the eastern side of Broadway. This Sephora is a really big store in relation to other Sephora locations I've been to. My wife was looking for something in particular (Tata Harper) and she wasn't able to find it so I asked one of the employees there who pointed it out immediately. The check out counter we used to pay was at the back left part of the store. The shape of the store isn't just a big square, it sort of branches out to the left. This store and the area are pretty busy but we didn't have to wait that long in line. read more

For a whirlwind tour of getting free stuff on my birthday, my boo and I came in here for some nice gifts. My boo wanted me to get her a mini eyeliner and mascara set, and lo and behold, they actually have men's gifts too! I got some Jack Black beard lube (Value of maybe $10). They were really glad to give it away, because apparently men never come here for the birthday gift. I've never had a bad experience at Sephora, and this place is no exception. So my bf gave me a Sephora gift card for Christmas, & unlike most girls I was procrastinating on actually going to use it. 1. I like makeup but its not a staple for me & 2. I had no clue how much was on the card. Well during a girls day with Alessa I decided to just use the card. After wandering around the store for a bit unsure of what to purchase, Alessa tells me to find out how much is on the card to give me a better idea of what I can get. So I call the number on the card to find out that there is way more money on that card than I ever thought there would be! I decided that I was going to learn to apply a smokey eye, after a while of more wandering I finally got the courage to ask someone to help me. I got paired up with a makeup artist named Shon. Not only did she teach me how to do the smokey eye, but she walked around the store with me & Alessa and told me what to purchase to get more bang for my buck. I ended up getting Urban Decays Black Palette, which I love & I'm usually not a fan of dark shadows. She also pointed me toward an Urban Decay brown that brings out the color of my eyes so well that they look hazel. I also bought a Stila cream liner & a new set of brushes (apparently blending is key in a smokey eye & a good blending brush is a staple) . The cashier talks really fast but as a fast talker myself I understood everything he said, Alessa was lost, but I walked our with a beauty insider card & look forward to the perks. Overall it was a great experience. There are 3 Sephora's in this 42nd Street Area, they can get crowded but its the location, it wasn't so bad for me and I tend to hate crowds so it should be fine, but if you definitely want to avoid crowds, I'd head over to another Sephora in the city. The Photo Booth was GREAT! After convincing Alessa to agree to take a picture (which came out absolutely adorable); we were able to email a copy to ourselves so that we'd have a free copy which was a huge perk for me. So I went into SEPHORA and purchased $100+ worth of items. As a makeup artist, I frequent SEPHORA fairly often and spend a decent amount each time. While in New York on business, part pleasure- I found myself shopping in the TIMES SQUARE, 1500 Broadway location, where the service was great originally, but the manager, Pierre lacked people skills. After my purchase, I was shopping at the store next door, dug in my purse to pay, then realized that I did not use my 20% off coupon for my SEPHORA purchase. 20 minutes after my purchase, I went back into SEPHORA, spoke with a cashier and explained my dilemma. The cashier was personable while explaining that she could not allow me to use my coupon because I had already made the purchase. That was ridiculous to me, so I requested a chat with Pierre, the manager. Pierre had already been a tad short, snippy, and curt (whichever noun you prefer), as I had dealings with him during my first visit, regarding a palette. For the record, it was pleasant on my end, he just checked the stockroom for a specific palette. I was nice and smiling, totally in a good mood, but he wasn't pleasant AT ALL. I shrug it off, maybe a bad day. After all, I'm happy, with my mom, shopping, having a blast. Sadly to say, it didn't last long. Once Pierre arrived to the counter to speak with me, I explained that I was just in their store, as he knew first hand. I informed him that I totally forgot I had a coupon for 20% off and wanted to redeem it. He was extra definite in his decision to not allow me to use the coupon. He said that the coupon couldn't be used for a prior purchase, as it was stated on the back on the coupon. I suggested that I'll just return the items and ring them up again, then it's not a "prior purchase". Like REALLY BRUH?! You're going to be that PETTY?? After he knew I was just in there, was pleasant, and made a pretty decent purchase. He went on and on about if he did it for me, he'd have to do it for everybody, etc. I thought it was HORRIBLE customer service, especially since it was the last day to use the coupon. The coupon did not say that I couldn't return the items and purchase them again. And quiet as it's kept, all I needed to do was have my mom purchase the items and return mine, but I didn't want to match his pettiness, but I thought it was awful that he didn't just say no problem. Especially being that he could have. The decision was based upon his discretion but he chose to be a hard-nose just because. I guess that made him feel like the man. I love Sephora, and this store is no different. The location is awesome, right in Times Square, and I really like how they have extended hours. My family and I popped in late one night during a visit to NYC. I was surprised the store was open. As in other Sephora stores, the staff was friendly and helpful, there are tons of samples and you can try on any make-up and perfume products you want. My kids left smelling like a veritable fruit cup, and they were happy, and I had a few products I needed. The store itself is a lot smaller than the downtown Seattle store I'm used to, but it had all the basics there - and more. read more

One young lady was quick and happy to help the wifey out at their Color ID booth which used photo technology to match a customer's skin tone with the perfect shade of foundation. Also, if you're not white, be ready to be treated like a tourist: I tried to see if I could squeeze in for a mini makeover session. I was like how am I book an appointment if you don't know when you have availability. She told me to check with other stores... Although I'm not big on makeup, I go to get perfumes or cologne and Rihanna's Fenty beauty foundation once in the blue but, I really just travel along to keep my friend company whilst she shops. The products are in good condition, seems to always be stocked, I give 3 stars only because they lack attentiveness. I understand it's a semi-big store but they should have enough employees circulating around the store to tend to more customers, you wait minutes to be helped and sometimes they forget about you. Some employees act as if they're just waayy too busy. Like one person told me that because she wasn't zoned to Rihanna's Fenty beauty collection she couldn't help out me and my friend. Side note: Macy's which is WAY bigger have zones but an employee would still stop what they're doing to assist you, they notify a manager or supervisor and tend to you AND if they can't they work to find someone who can assist you. Tonight (Thursday May 3) I received amazing customer service from Alexis at the Times Square location. In case there are multiple people who work there named Alexis, she was Latin American, late twenties, with extremely perfect eye brows and a beautiful smile. I was so impressed by my customer service experience, not only her professionalism, but true kindness towards me. Going into Sephora I was very upset because of a mishap with one of my orders (online), Alexis was very polite about pointing out that I did receive my correct items and helped me return what I no longer needed. The Sephora store itself was like a maze, and very busy (obviously). Everything was clean and the line moved quickly. 5 stars for today's visit. read more

All I can say is WOW! Not only is this place huge, but the staff is fantastic. My wife is an elite member (if you know her then that is not a shock at all) and she took advantage of a service where they will do your make-up free of charge. We were on vacation and she decided that she wanted to have a little fun and be made up for the day and maybe get some great products simultaneously. The products she got were discounted because of her status, and worked so well. My wife was so enthused throughout the process and had such a great time too. Not only was the woman who helped my wife a sweet person, but she did a fantastic job of making my beautiful wife even more beautiful. The store is well appointed, and very clean and unlike many other Sephoras that I am used to didn't have as heavy a smell of perfume/cologne as most do. I've never had anyone put so much time and effort into helping me at any Sephora I've ever visited in my life--and believe me that is A LOT! So, I was having one of those "EWWW don't look back at me mirror!" days. Ladies, you know what I am talking about :-O when I walked in and encountered the amazing Melanie C. She was knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and made me feel like I was the only customer in the store the whole time! She even took the time to talk to me about tips and tricks about my skin. She asked questions and she listened! She introduced me to a new line of products and matched me to a color that was PERFECT! I'm a very difficult color to match, my diverse background makes me an odd shade not many makeup artists have been able to master. Melanie graciously found a true match and grabbed the matching powder. I came in for only foundation, but I ended up leaving with 5 products. That's because Melanie took the time to show me new products and recommend them to me. I can only imagine how much she increases sales for this location. This Sephora is HUGE. Everything really is bigger in Times Square, as this Sephora is the mother of all Sephoras! Even a beauty addict like myself was lost wondering the aisles of the store, and I definitely had trouble finding the exit during my separate visits to the store (although a big part of my disorientated state had to do with the fact that there were SO MANY PEOPLE inside the store!). The last week of December in Times Square, NYC is the MOST hectic and crowded time of the entire year as millions of people pour into the city to experience the once-in-lifetime ball drop at One Times Square on New Years Eve. What this means is that every store is super saturated with people, and Sephora is no exception. One of the staff even told me that as soon as the store opens at 8am, they have lines at the register that snake throughout the store within a half hour of opening. I felt suffocated while shopping here, and it definitely detracted from the fun of makeup shopping, but it didn't take away from the fact that the store is fairly well organized and has EVERY makeup brand you could want (except for the really expensive makeup items like Christian Louboutin's $90 lipsticks -- yes, I did check!). What I could discern of the layout is that skincare, haircare, and perfumes are in the back of the store near the registers and makeup is spread out elsewhere -- the store is separated into 'blocks' rather than an open layout, which I didn't like because I constantly felt like I forgot to check out a section that was in some secret corner of the store. Overall, if you can stomach the crowds and get a feel for the layout of the store, I believe you'll be happy with this Sephora location as it has every brand you could want and the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable about the products they carry and where to find them. Ciara in store#304 did an excellent job on my teen daughter for her Quinceanera makeup consultation/ appointment. She was on time and attentive to my daughter's needs. Ciara explained everything she was doing and explained what each product was used for. Although, I spent about $80 that day you are only required to spend $50 dollars on ANYTHING you want in the Sephora store. They use samples to do your makeup. You can always just buy what you want them to use as well. My daughter looked beautiful. We used samples on her to do her entire face makeover and she has had no issue. Her makeup lasted ALL NIGHT. From 10am to the next morning. Go see Ciara she's so sweet. BTW YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE TIPS TO THE MAKEUP ARTIST THEY CAN GET FIRED FROM THEIR JOBS! As ever, I will be the voice of opposition. Times Square is a cesspit of Disney-fied tourism. Many times have I woven through the neon maze, wishing for a cattle prod and cardboard sign that says, "No, I do not want to see any stand-up comedy." Sephora offers a respite from the mayhem, an oasis of beauty in a desert of traffic and grime. I've stopped by many times just to touch up my make-up and always leave this place feeling prettier and more refreshed. Mind you, I've also had enough beauty products in that little basket that I wanted to call a friend the way one would an AA sponser, to stop me from inflicting such a massive dent on my credit card. I actually like that the staff are marginal; I sometimes feel uncomfortable when they hover around me in the less crowded locations. 9 times out of 10, I'd rather discover products on my own. Someday, I will write a sequel to Breakfast at Tiffany's and call it Supper at Sephora. Nothing bad can ever happen in Sephora. It is a good place, a happy place. My happy place. read more

I agree with Leslie M. that this place is a huge circus. Everything is in disarray and you can't really find a specific item without lots of help. I often stay in a hotel in Times Square and unfortunately this time they threw away one of my new brushes! So of course they generously offered to replace it... so where to go? Close to the worst customer service I've ever had. Maybe I expected too much from a Times Square location. I went in to get a pretty basic service: I wanted someone to show me how to pull off a specific eyeshadow effect. The first woman I asked told me she couldn't help me and mentioned some sort of paid service to have my makeup done. I told her I wasn't interested and she pointed me towards another section of the store and told me that "the one with glasses" could probably help. Well, "the one with glasses" was busy, so I found another woman and asked her the same questions. She led me over to a makeup counter and asked me what I wanted. When I tried to explain that I wasn't sure and that's why I was there she became frustrated. Instead of asking any more questions or trying to get more information, she brought me over to a chair, sat me down, pointed to a man standing a few feet away and told me that he was an artist and would be over to help me in a minute or two. Then she walked away. I waited a minute. Then two. Then five. The artist who was supposed to come help me stayed exactly where he was chatting with a few other employees and never came over. Eventually "the one with the glasses" walked by and I flagged him down, explaining the situation and expressing my frustration. He was very apologetic and assured me he would find someone to help me immediately. And guess who he found? The exact same woman I'd originally spoken to who had told me she couldn't help me. Of course. In the end she did my makeup but didn't explain the technique she used or what makeups were needed, and she did it incorrectly. Worst Sephora ever. read more

OCTOBER 19TH, 2014 So I visited the store in Times Sq (NYC) #304 (212)944-6789 and got the most rudest customer service ever in my years of shopping at sephora.( 7 +) So I was looking for a compact power and " Michelle" dark dark skinned girl with a black bandana took me over to the "Nars section", (mind you i'm a VIP Rough Member ) spent thousands of dallors and I asked "Michelle" for a brush and she reply Quickly ' NOOO...!!! i'm like excuse me!! she said get a sponge and walked away... I was looking for a compact and wanted to use a brush so i can get the real texture of applying it on my face. { and no I wasn't going to use the brush on my face- nor was she busy because I saw her walking around doing nothing.} I was shocked in the way she treated a VIP customer.... a lot of these people that so called employees here and very impolite and lack customer service manners. The store directors and management needs to look into this because they just look a customer to this store and i'm here 2 more weeks. I not only experienced this but my girlfriend witness the same foul customer service to other legit customers , some people left the store because how unhelpful they were sending them to another sephora store. UPDATE::: I actually spoke to a Sephora Pro Member thats a great friend of mines and he told me that theres no such thing as "Us customers not be able to use a makeup brush to try makeup on ect." so in other words they lied to me. Great selection of Kat Von D (ended up purchasing a new lipstick), HUGE perfume section, and any employee can accept a credit card payment (how very Apple of them). Cramped, hot and cluttered. Just had to pick up a gift. Asked if they carried Tocca candles and one associate with his walkie talkie was on it! He said they stopped carrying the line but asked other staff for comparables and got a few blank stares. However, he tracked down a cute little 4 candle Tocca set that they had in the back! When are they going to be done renovating?? I'm tired of all the wires hanging down from the ceiling and weird, graffitied masonite on the floor. The place kind of looks like my parents' unfinished garage. I digress. This Sephora is my Sephora. It's close to my apartment, my job, and my bank (dangerous, I know). I'm in this store at least once a week to the point where the sales associates, while not knowing me by name, know my face. I colored my hair one week and a sales associate complimented me on my dye job. (I immediately texted a friend of mine, also a Sephora devotee: "I think I come here too much.") So the store is kind of a janky mess, even when they're not in the middle of renovating. I fully blame the tourists on this. There are never enough mirrors, makeup applicators, or bottles of rubbing alcohol (because I sterilize the bejesus out of everything I try on). I get easily frustrated when I see some idiot girl (read: a tourist) fixing her ponytail in the mirror (when three other girls are around her trying to apply lipstick). Plus, it gets crowded with people, especially around the Sephora brand area. The testers are always sort of a mess; often the wrong shade is in the wrong holder, or the tester is empty or just gross. But the sales associates are AWESOME. These guys are some of the best, which I find remarkable since they deal with idiots (read: tourists) all the time. (This is in direct contrast to the 42nd street store, which is filled with tourists as well as sales associates who are clearly sick of dealing with tourists.) These guys are so damn friendly! I had an SA spend almost half an hour with me, discussing skin care. Another helped me find the right BB cream for my skin, and then a week later helped me find a new one when the first one made my skin break out. Countless of them have complimented my clothes, my handbag, my skin, my hair - these sales people know what they're doing and they do it really well, on top of being knowledgeable about the products the store carries. Like I said, this is my Sephora. I love it despite the hordes of slow-moving, picture-taking, mirror-hogging, generally oblivious shoppers (read: usually tourists). As much as I now buy lots of my make-up, which I love, from here, I also often when in just to touch up when I worked near by. I didn't have too much money at the time so this became a hobby. The worker there were cool about it and didn't make me feel bad for "touching up." So, now that I make more money, I feel loyal to this place and go there for most things. However, in most other cases, it is always hard to find a verity of foundation choices for my skin color. This is not peculiar to Sephora thought. I LOVE SEPHORA SO MUCH!!!! Every single experience is always so fantastic! The star of the show this time is JON B!!! I've been out of foundation for a while now, but I've been getting by with some drug store brand ones my sister had that weren't her shade. After several months I decided it was time.. and I finally went to Sephora for a much needed re-up! I received some great service as usual and got what I needed (and then some) but I also received help with my non-existent face cleansing regimen from Jon B. As I was making my way through the facial cleansers and moisturizers, Jon B and all his greatness walked up to me (probably cuz I looked so confused) and asked if I needed help. I let him know how lost I was because I don't really have a regimen, but that I broke out and want to get more serious about my cleansing situation and he was happy to help. We picked out some products THAT I AM IN LOVE WITH... and he blessed me with the most amazing facial I've ever received! You guys I couldn't stop talking about this facial to my friends and I knew it was magical because the very next day at work, the first thing my boss said to me was "OMG D.. your skin looks amazing" I couldn't help but smile I knew it was the amazing facial that got all the nastiness off my face... during the facial, Jon had a jar collecting all the crap the machine was capturing and it was so gross to look at after, but man did my skin feel FANTASTIC!! I recommend JON B and this Sephora location for anyone! Whether you're a first timer with makeup trying to learn the ropes, or a seasoned MUA, these people at Sephora are amazing! Patient, friendly, knowledgeable, and just amazing. Convenient location and hours. Closes at 1am. Can't ask for more. Most staff are really helpful. However I had bad experience with one of them. She was incredibly rude and told me in a very obnoxious tone that they are "out of sample containers so no samples okay honey?" when I asked for a sample of the Cover FX foundation. That was clearly a lie because I immediately asked someone else and she gave me the sample without giving me a hard time. I'm not someone constantly asking for samples trying to steal foundations from Sephora. I only have one face, which was covered with foundation at that moment. So getting samples was the only way for me to decide if I'm going to buy it or not. I'd rather not make the purchase if I can't test it out. Anyway, if anything, I wish I had more than one face so that I can try on every single foundation I'm interested :) This is the reason why I'm giving only 3 stars. read more

I like Sephora, but the store at Broadway and 74th St has to be the worst. Every time I walk in there are at least 6 or 7 sales associates within view and none of them walk up to me to ask if I need help. This has happened several times. I usually have to interrupt whatever they think is more important than a customer to ask them to help me. I never get their full attention, nor are they particularly friendly or enthusiastic about helping me. What is wrong with this store?! I have been to many other Sephoras where my experience is quite the opposite. I'm greeted with a smile as soon as I'm inside the door and I'm helped in the fastest friendliest manner. Please take a moment to talk to your employees and give them a clue how to behave. I give this store an F-. I only go there when I absolutely have to. CHANGE!! read more

A little background - I am the crazy person who spends over $1000 to get a red card and I come in this store about once every two weeks. Positives :o) The store is always clean and neat - which I can't understand how they can do that given the amount of patrons on a daily basis. This store is very well stocked and almost always have what I need. They have regular guests come whether a specifi product line to various makeup artists etc. The line moves very swiftly and the associates on the registers are really nice and super knowledgeable. For these four reasons I still go here. If not for all four, here are the reasons why I would not. Negatives :o( Some of the floor associates are just rude and will completely ignore you - It is actually better when it is busy because at least you won't take it personal. When it is empty and they do this it is rather annoying. And if I do get someone's attention: Sometimes I buy the product but sometimes I'd like a sample. When asking for a sample you would think I am asking for the product for free. This is one of the best features of Sephora: try before you buy. If I am spending $200 on some face cream I really like to test first. Trust me I am going to love it anyway and come back but I still like to feel I have some sort of $$ control. I normally will go in super early when they are not busy and ask. I would think by then everyone had their Mocha Javas and should be in an better mood. I really just do not like any place where I feel as if they really don't want my money. I mean nothing lasts forever....just look at the recent store closings of The Gap and McDonalds.
