So, life got in the way (positively) which really delayed me posting my very first experience with Mac cosmetics Soho (506 Broadway). Let me start by first saying: 12 out 10! That's not a typo! Yes, I said 12 out of 10! I had a three day event in NYC this past April (2025) and needed to find a talented artist to create different looks two(2) out of the three(3) days. After a pain staking search, I came across an artist whom I belive could handle the task, however, their schedule would not allow. After gaining the knowledge of what I was looking to have done, they eagerly referred me to Mac cosmetics Soho specifically, and recommended that I speak with Gabby. I'm glad I did. The collaboration with Gabby, Kenzie, and Gloria, the manager at the location who, helped to pull it all together, was nothing short of EXCELLENCE! From introduction to execution was sheer artistry. Gabby was up first for day one(1) with total creative control and she did not disappoint. That evening at the event, the compliments never ended. Everyone wanted to know what artist did the work. (That was graciously shared). For the third day of the event, which was an all day affair, Kenzie was up for that challenge to create an amazing look that would last. She did not disappoint either! Given creative control as well, she created a jaw-dropping look that was beyond what I imagined, and once again, the compliments flowed endlessly. Gabby and Kenzie are truly epic artists in their industry! If they were able to create such dynamic looks for my event, do not hesitate to use them for yours! They are both very much into the details to make the perfect look and their skills, to me, are next level! My only regret is that, I didn't utilize them for all three(3) days. ...Next time! Last Tuesday, I decided to get my makeup done since it had been a while, and I wanted a fresh look. Luckily, Rachel Nutter was working that day, and she did my makeup. We connected immediately, and I felt completely comfortable with her. I brought in a picture of Zoë Kravitz for inspiration, and Rachel not only captured the essence of that look but also made it unique to me! She provided numerous helpful tips on makeup application without pushing me to buy anything extra. Instead, she assisted me in selecting products that I should try. was in a good mood when i walked in, not when i walked out. a lot of sass and attitude from the people that work here, and a tone of condescension. when i walked in and was approached by an employee i said i was looking for a new shade of lipstick, she scoffed and said ok like what? pink purple blue what? after we found a shade i asked her to get me the mini version of it. when i went to check out the man at the register asked me who helped me, and since the woman never gave me her name i said i didn't know. he then looked at me and said "well we work on commission here so it's important for you to know who helped you" as if it's my responsibility to know who helped me when she never shared her name. when he rang me up i noticed the price was much higher than i expected and i asked if the lipstick was a mini version. he said no. i said i had asked for a mini one. he then went out and brought back a mini one and held up both regular size and mini to me and said "do you see the difference? this one is mini" i replied that i know how to tell the difference between a small object and a large one, and that the lady helping me handed me the wrong one. super weird behavior from people who work on commission. will not return to this location again. read more

I like MAC products. And that still stands. What I couldn't stand was the bitch that was pretending to help me. I don't know what it was. Maybe it was Asian on Asian hate. But whatever. I don't stoop to that level. I believe in pan-Asian unity. But man I wanted to sock her in the face irregardless of ethnicity. I was early for another event, and since I haven't been in a MAC store in a hot minute, I went in. What a mistake. It was all pretense and attitude. Days like this makes me not like Gotham. Thank Buddha this only happens every so often. I am wandering around when a sales woman approaches me. Cute asian chick with dreadies and piercings. But that's where the cuteness ends. I asked for a light finish powder. She suggests a mineral powder. But in order to apply it, you have to buy a $50 brush. So I am asking for other options and she cops an attitude with me. "I told you the mineral powder is light coverage." I ask if you can apply it with a pad and she gets all bitchy with her response. I told her I am not in the industry and this all seems a bit high-tech to me, and she says incredulously, "this is high-tech?" So I ask her to show me a demo of the product, she agrees. But she is being a bit rough with the brush and I ask her to be gentler and her reply is, "do you want to do it yourself?" At this point, it takes everything in me to not sock her in the mouth. I get away from her and look around some more. I do eventually buy the mineral powder and the brush, but not on her account. I have no idea why she had a pole in her ass, but she better take it out soon. Or else she is going to cost this MAC branch. I am also thinking about writing MAC to complain about her. I would recommend going to another location simply for the attitude and lack of assistance from the staff here. Someone approached me and asked how I was doing, and I said I needed help finding the right shade of red lipstick (showed them an example). She pulled one color for me, asked for me to apply it myself. No problem. Wasn't the right shade suitable for a medium/olive skin tone. I asked for another shade, and it was pretty similar to the first one and I didn't care for it. She said that "I need to be comfortable with myself" before wearing red. I wear red all the time so it's not a self confidence issue. I was traveling and forgot mine at home, and couldn't remember the name. This MAC has two floors, the second floor is open to the public and quieter and less crowded- it's also where makeup sessions and private events are done. Prices are comparable to Sephora. Customer Service was ideal.... I actually went over here on my lunch and looked at their options. I know they are VERY different than the store. Although, they had the Rihi (Rihanna collection) & Cinderella. I also felt like their prices were cheaper, but I really don't know for a fact of that is true... I LOVE some of these peachy colors coming out, but I doubt they have all the new ones. you can't use your Mac Gift Cards here, a coworker tried and she couldn't. I think their customer service is pretty amazing and the guy who helped me was wayyy better than the stores I normally shop at. Also better than the Mac store in Brooklyn (they were mean and rude). I was going to the store on 23rd (flatiron district), but the service was horrible. I knew what I wanted too, which pretty much sums up the idea of NOT giving them my service again. I don't usually shop in Mac but I found out that one of my favorite artists (Halsey) was coming out with a lipstick and I immediately needed to get it! It's not a normal color people would buy but it's a bluish purple and i thought it would be a different, but good different color for my lips and I always love trying out new lip colors! Being a makeup artist I have a lot of different colors in my kit but NOTHING like this. I decided to put it on the minute I got home and it's a beautiful color! I've never been more satisfied with a Mac product. As for the other products I don't really like I feel like they are too oily for my skin type and I don't like using them on clients either. Yesterday I had the opportunity to get a tutorial on how to put on makeup in 10 minutes. I'm not really a makeup person but with the help of Oscar, Glo, and Shaina I feel confident that I can elevate my look with the MAC 123 method. The new products that came out yesterday are beautiful. Oscar taught me how to get conqueror my smokey eye fears. I really liked the pigments that Glo applied to my lips. I've never applied pigments over my lipstick but now I see how much of a difference it makes. I appreciate Shaina's patience. I told her about my combination/mostly oily skin and she helped match me with a BB cream, Face & Body, and a Pro Longwear. Perfect matches for my skin tone. The whole team appeared very knowledgeable and they were friendly. This location will be my go to MAC store when I'm in the city. read more

I popped in the store yesterday just curious to see if there was anything new. The new collection looked cute and the super nice makeup artist/sales rep Taylor was so helpful. She suggested one of the new lip glosses which I tried on and I loved. Cha Cha Cha in case Yelpers are curious! The perfect pinky/coral for Spring and Summer. I have nothing witty or observant to write (gasp). SoHo's M-A-C cosmetics store has simply turned me into an Ernest New York Yelper---with fabulous "Underworld" Red colored lips. The afternoon started comfortably with lunch. I quickly learned never to compliment a fashion writer/editor on her red lipstick because that bitch will drag you into one of those intimidating...makeup stores...(eew) like M-A-C. Except it wasn't intimidating. WTF? As you may know, finding a red lipstick is very tricky business. As I contemplated which shades were too blue or orange or whatever, a super nice goth-chic saleswoman came over to lend her expertise. Ricki Lake strolls past with one of her sycophants and my chic goth saleswoman didn't even blink and eye. She stayed loyal to her big spender (um me) and my impending $15 purchase. I am so beyond disgusted and disappointed with this store. I have been an avid MAC user for years- love and only use them. It is an amazing product and so this review has absolutely no reflection on the product but instead on the pathetic excuse for staff working in this store. One random evening before going home I dropped by this store- the mistake of a lifetime. First off despite there being at least 5 employees (not including the 2 others that were just so overly excited to be "dropping in"), not one person spoke to me the entire 20-25 minutes I walked throughout the store. I gave 2 the benefit of the doubt because they were helping people, but that still left 3 who I suppose were just too busy chatting it up with their fellow MAC friends to actually recognize real customers. I've had my eye on two new colors to add to my collection- deep blue & deep green- and needed to replace my moisturizer...and possibly looking to try out a new makeup remover. These would have been good things to discuss with a MAC staffer but sadly the only staffer's attention I got was the security guard who followed me literally like a hawk as I pulled colors. For a moment I thought I was imagining it until I was standing in front of the eyeshadow wall closest to door with a shade in my hand when he walked over and blatantly stood between me and the door while staring right at me. UTTER SHOCK- YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!! Upon realizing not only was I not going to get any help in here and that I might end up cussing the security guard out; ultimately becoming the stereotypical mad black woman, I had to get out of this store! I was so pissed, I walked to Chipotle, called my sister and complained about all the horrible things I was going to say when I went back in there. Needless to say I've never gone back in there but later went to the MAC store near the flatiron and bought over $150 worth of products. Honestly one of the worst Mac experiences I've ever had. I usually appreciate Mac customer service and they're helpful with finding what you need, but its NOT the case at this store. You walk in and they're either severely understaffed or the staff is just off doing other things. With the help of my friend I found a concealer I liked and opened the drawer to find it on my own since NO ONE was around. When I went to go pay for it, the cashier asked me who pulled the concealer for me. I replied myself-- she looked agitated about that fact and then went on to say she apologized for that and someone should have helped me with that. Later, my friend remembers she wants to buy a lip liner she's running low on. She asks someone on the floor and they "go find it". Five minutes later no one is back. We start trying to find the stuff on our own by pulling out the drawers (Like Victoria Secret Style) and the door man/security/dude in a suit was so rude about telling us that we werent allowed to do that. Im sorry but do you see anyone trying to help us? We ultimately track someone else down (TRACK DOWN is the operative word here) and ask if they have this lip liner and they confirm theyre out of it. I've been wanting to purchase makeup for a while now and never knew what I needed. I was always hesitant walking into a store like MAC and saying "Um, I would like to buy something but I have no idea what" thinking I'd be the ultimate retail target. :/ I was greeted by the lovely Kalena who offered to help me figure out just exactly what I needed. I noticed this VERY attractive male artist working there and I simply said " I want to look like him, what is he wearing?" His name is Barry by the way...I now this because she CALLED him over and asked haha. They both suggested a moisturizer (which Barry was nice enough to apply) along with some foundation and concealer which Kalena showed me how to apply. A cleanser and brush was also suggested by the beauty duo. I was happy with all the suggestions and didn't once feel as though I was being pushed with product. Came here to get my makeup done for my birthday, and I'm so pleased! The store wasn't insane, but busy as it usually is at 6p on a Saturday. I was a few minutes late due to train problems, and when I got there they were waiting for me with a smile, and weren't peeved at all that I was a few minutes late. My artist Mariam (might not be how she spells it) was absolutely incredible. Immediately upon sitting down, she got a feel for my taste (hi, glitter.), and did an absolutely stunning job! Unfortunately I have to agree with the low rating of this store. I love MAC products and use them almost exclusively. I had a makeover and purchased tons of products in the Santa Barbara, CA store because the artists there were so great and fun and helpful. So when I wanted to buy a few new things like lipstick and gloss, I popped into this store on an evening during the week. Well, the music was pumping and the store was busy, but I could not get any help on the floor. I tried several lipsticks, glosses, etc, and nobody asked if I needed any assistance. After looking around, obviously wanting help, I finally went up to the cashier and asked them to get me a lipstick, which I brought with me. She looked at me, disgusted I would hand her one of the tester lipsticks, and told me to wait. A few minutes later, a different person rang me up without looking at me (the only words exchanged between us: "This yours?"), and I paid and left. Most amazing experience ever! Christa and Mary in the soho location are the kindest most helpful associates I've ever met. I came into the store on a Saturday afternoon to purchase x3 of the Mac Concealer in shade NW 25 which was completely sold out online for the past 3 weeks. I live in upstate NY and visit the city sporadically so I was adamant to finally purchase my makeup in person. Christa was dealing with another customer but immediately greeted and assisted me after she was done. When she couldn't find the concealer in my color she contact Bloomingdales next door as well as 3 additional stores. She didn't stop until she found my concealer and was charming and engaging throughout the process. Mary was the absolute star who found my color. 100% will continue to buy from the MAC soho location! read more

Mac Cosmetics is a great brand! They really know how to market their products to people who love make up. The store is always clean and organized. I love their special events they have from time to time. They are always fun and exciting. The staff is really friendly and every time I want to try something on, I always have someone experienced to help me. One of my favorite go to artists is Colby. He helped me with a make over when I wanted to try the liquid liner for a "cat eye" look. He has the best product knowledge and keeps me up to date on all the latest! There aren't many stand alone MACs in the city...that said, this one is usually busy on the weekends, so try not to go there then if you can. This particular non-accessible (2 stairs up) location, while it has the standard products all MAC stand alones do, seems to be more square footage. I can tell you right now, you're going to have to wait for assistance. Even if you know what products you want, you'll have to wait til someone has a moment to assist you which is probably because the staff doesn't make commission: they're not hustling to help the next person, but at least you're not pushed to buy like you would with some other places. With limited edition products, you're only allowed to purchase 3 of one shade at a time...and yes, they do run out rather quickly if it's a hot item, which the limited editions usually are. Items are returnable with receipt up to (I'm pretty sure) 30 days. Many people don't know about MAC's recycle plan which is only available at free standing MACs...save 6 plastic containers from anything (powder, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara tubes...) and bring them back to get a free lipstick/gloss or shadow of your choice. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a huge MAC fan - I've been using their product for over 10 years, and have never been disappointed in the quality. So this craptastic review, my friends, is just for this particular shop. I have been to many MAC stores in the US and Canada, and have always been super impressed with (1) the time each artist will spend with you to find the perfect product and, (2) the cleanliness of the shop. The latter is the biggie for me: I'm super grossed out by testers, and love that MAC usually has separate testers accessible only to the artists so that they can take a small amount of the product, place it on a tray, and then apply that to your skin with a clean brush. Meaning the tester never actually touches anyone's skin - much better than applying a lip gloss that hundreds of random people have tried on before you. But this shop? Sadly, they don't seem to follow my golden MAC rules set out above. I went to the shop on a quiet weekday afternoon. There were very few customers in the store, and quite a few artists working. I had trouble getting an artist to assist me, and the help that was given was severely lacking: she was useless in making suggestions, did not offer to apply any of the product on me, and when I suggested that she do so, SHE WIPED A Q-TIP ON THE COUNTER TESTER AND TRIED TO APPLY IT AROUND MY EYE AREA. Seriously gross. I will not go back to this location ever - if I want a crappy drugstore makeup shopping experience (complete with pink eye), I'll just go to CVS... read more

HORRIBLE MAC store. It's a complete mess in here. I came looking for a very specific eyebrow pencil and couldn't get someone to help me for 10 minutes straight. Then I saw the installation on the wall with eyebrow pencils all organized and exposed by the door....awesome! I found the color I needed and was about to grab it and pay when the security guard stopped me "You're not allowed to get your own products or touch the display!" It's not like I was stealing! I literally just came in to buy this exact pencil and had already wasted 10 min waiting for someone to help me. How am I supposed to buy ANYTHING here?
