Booked a very last minute (same day) appointment with Alexandra on my wedding day after deciding I didn't want to do my own makeup after all (lol). I brought my own foundation to optimize color match. She did an incredible job at accomplishing the soft glam look I was going for. Great work! Will definitely be back read more

I trusted the good people who write reviews to make an appointment for my 15 year old. She likes makeup but she and I are proud, self proclaimed tomboys. But a new high school experience had her feeling unsettled about her beauty regimine. In the appointment with Shara, I discovered that she was first and foremost an incredible listener, as my teen had specific requests. Shara treated my teen like her most important client and answered questions throughout the session. She explained every step of the process (with 'why', for my scientifically minded kid) and gave her choices throughout the lesson. My daughter never felt like she was being pushed into a look that wasn't uniquely her. The best part of all was the hands-on practice which gave my teen enormous confidence. For people who may not feel confident among beauticians like my daughter and me, it was incredibly comfortable and fun and informative. There was no heavy sales pitch to buy products, but we chose to buy some hard to find products for my teen's unique skin tone and couldn't be happier. I'm already planning to return with my daughter for a special skin treatment as a holiday gift. read more

I should have written this review last year but better late than never. Michelle did my makeup for my brother's wedding, and I looked so good, I had her do it again for my own wedding and till this day people talked about how amazing I looked that night. I now live in Florida and have tried two different people but nobody comes close. For anyone who reads this before going in, please tell Michelle she needs to move down to Southern Florida ASAP, I am going to be a maid of honor next month and don't know what I'll do without her!! read more

My eyebrows are amazing! I used to get my eyebrows waxed any old place and never thought twice about it. One day, I decided to up my eyebrow game at Shara's studio. My eyebrows have never looked better. Shara spends the time to make sure your eyebrows are the right shape for your face...not the cookie cutter look I was used to. read more

Shara came to the rescue when I needed last minute makeup for the Tony Awards- with less than 24 hours notice before the red carpet, Shara promptly set me up with a makeup artist to come to my apartment to do my makeup! The makeup artist Michelle was incredible. She came on time, she was efficient and she created the perfect red carpet glam look for me while taking into account the entire picture (my dress color - bright red!- and hair). She worked side by side with my hair stylist. I can't recommend Shara makeup studio and Michelle enough! My now go to for all things makeup for events- or even a fun date night :) pic of us on the red carpet below- I'm in the red dress! read more

I was in town for an event and had made an appointment for an early morning makeup session. I arrived , right on time , at 9:30. When the studio was closed and no one was there to open I dialed the number for Shara studio and Shara , herself, answered. She immediately apologized and told me she was nearby and would be right over. The makeup artist I had booked had a transportation issue and wouldn't be able to make it. Well it must have been my lucky day , because Shara is amazing . With an incredible background of theater and voice, this artist is the consummate professional , as well as kind , adorable and an amazing makeup artist. In a blink of an eye, I was on my way with a great face that lasted until the wee hours ! Can't wait to get back for my next event in the city :) read more

I went to Shara makeup studio for a lesson and have returned for applications several times with one of my favorite Makeup artist there, Maggie! Maggie always greets me with a great big smile and the experience is always pleasant. I've had my makeup done so many times by Maggie because she is the only person who has ever gotten it right. I always feel well taken care of and pampered whenever I visit her. She is a great teacher because I`ve learnt new makeup techniques every time I visit. She is so attentive to my needs and gets me in and out in a flash which is much appreciated with my busy schedule. read more

Shara is simply the best. She has an incomparable professionalism and really makes you shine for whatever event you are going to. She has worked with me for photo shoots, film premieres, and more. Additionally, she is a wonderful resource for tips on better skin. I had been experiencing mild acne and even the dermatologist didn't seem to have a reason for why it was happening. Shara not only diagnosed which product I was using to cause the acne, but offered solutions that have really changed the quality of my skin to be 100% clear and healthy looking. If you have a big day approaching, I give her the highest recommendation! You will be so so happy with h read more

Great Job Jennifer! I am a very tough customer when it comes to make-up application as I am pretty good at it myself. Jennifer asked me all the right questions about my skincare and made great suggestions. We talked about every product she used and asked me my preferences. The end result was lovely. It also lasted to the end of the night with no fallout. I already booked my next appointment. read more

Thanks to Tippr coupon, I got a chance to try Shara. She is just so sweet and professional. I wanted to get a makeup consultation for a daily look that lasts long and stunning. I was so happy to get my trial and learned a lot of new things about makeup. She also showed me what brushes and makeup to use. I am so happy I found Shara! read more

I found the Shara Makeup Studio through a GroupOn deal, which I purchased for a 60 minute make up lesson. My appointment was actually with Jennifer, not Shara, though any fears I had about not meeting with Shara were quickly put to rest the moment I met Jennifer. She was kind, patient and really helpful in instructing me as a novice makeup user. I've been able to continue doing my makeup at home following her instructions (they give you a very handy page of notes to take home), and I love the products I purchased from them. You are NOT required to purchase any of their products, but for me, seeing the results, I wanted to try and replicate everything as best as I could so I did buy a bunch of their stuff (though Jennifer also confirmed a few items I had already and brought with me were perfectly suitable). It gets a little more expensive of course if you go that route but for me, it was like making up for a dozen years of not buying any makeup -- I got everything I needed at this one appointment, and should be well set up for a while! All in all, I'm really happy with the results and what I've learned. Being able to do a professional looking makeup 'look' has given me more confidence and I love the way the makeup colors she helped me choose don't look over the top but very natural (it has always been very difficult for me to choose colors, not sure what works, etc. and this is the perfect solution!) read more

The Best: Anytime I am in NYC and need my makeup done, I reach out to Shara. She has a team of truly talented makeup artists, (Jennifer, Frances and Maggie are super talented and full of knowledge you can apply to your daily makeup routine). I don't wear a lot of makeup but whether I have an event or just a dinner party, (bold/heavy or light makeup) my makeup looks natural. Not typically a complainer, but even when I ask for a tweak, they gracefully fix and its never a problem (like some places). I love her makeup line. My two favorite products are the slip primer and tinted primer, which for me is light enough to be a moisturizer with enough coverage for everyday use and they feel weightless both separate or combined together. read more

I was a client over a year ago and every day when I wake up and put on my face I praise the work of Shara!! I don't ever shop for makeup anymore and waste my money, I love how my color palette she chose works with everything - I love knowing how to take a day look and make it a bit more special for evening ! The colors, textures products are fantastic and very reasonable !!!!!! I will also add with aging skin each year gets harder but not with this brilliant makeup artist!!!!!! You changed my life ! My routine is simple and full proof. Thank you read more

Today my mom and I went for make up lessons with Maggie. She was extremely friendly and patient! She took the time to explain everything to us. We brought our own brushes with us so she could let us know which ones were for what & was able to supply us with what we were missing. She did not push the products on us at all but we were so impressed we ended up almost buying everything! Most importantly, we walked out looking beautiful! We had such a fun girls day and would definitely go back! Thanks Maggie :) read more

I just had to write this review of Maggie Esmond for private makeup lesson. She is super professional and picked the right shade for my skin tone. She knew exactly what foundation to use for my oily face, what eye shadow will pop my eye and she picked the right lipstick to give me a glam look. I was so satisfied with her make up that I have returned couple of times for additional sessions. She also gave me helpful tips for everyday look, apparently I was doing it all wrong. With Maggie's tips and Shara's product, I look fab everyday. I was wasting so much money on make up products, now I only use Shara's product which feels so natural and my face is never cakey. read more

i'm not sure why her yelp account is listed under "mkbs" and there's no photo or any detai on it- but she has glowing review on googlepages, city search that's kind of a little shady isn't it? anyway, i got an appointment with her for makeup lesson from lifebooker- overall eventhough, the rate is cheap! but i won't be using her again- ok so i brought with me products that i used fresh face rose primer and nars blush and instead of incorperate what i had in the makeup lesson she decided to just applied makeup using her own products which she will ask if you want to buy those later.. i don't like to overall results it cames out to dark- she used brown-ish lip color which i don't think look good on me- and she basically cake my face with ton and ton of products. well, im not gonna do that everyday so what give? i mean, i want a makeup lesson that i can do it everyday not just one time deal.. anyway,i end up purchased some products which look cheap but cost 15-25$ and more total is almost 300 worth of products and several days later i broke out horribly from the foundation she sold to me. i don't want to bother calling her since she seems like she couldn't care less actually. read more

Shara Makeup Studio - Makeup Artists Near Me - New York, New York

This is a great gem of a makeup studio! I was able to get a Groupon for an 1-1/2 hour session, and learned a great deal about how to apply my own makeup properly. Bring all of the items you currently use, as the makeup artists will mix and match with their colors. The artist will apply the makeup to one side of your face, and then you apply it to the other with their guidance. Everything was written down, and I just need some home practice at this point. Brooke was my magician, and she worked wonders on me! I leaned how to do both a day and night look, which is what I wanted to learn. I also got tips on what to do when I didn't have a lot of time, but wanted to look at least presentable. Shara stopped in a few times during my transformation. I did buy some products, and they were all very reasonably priced, and easily augmented the things I already had. The bonus is that this studio is located at the ritzy Pierre Hotel on 5th Avenue, so I highly recommend strutting down the Upper East Side with your new gorgeous look after you are done with your session! In the past I had always gone to the makeup counters at department stores, and had a hodgepodge of items, some that worked, some that didn't. Ladies, save your money and just learn how to apply makeup so you look your best. I was very happy that I did this and may go back in a few months for additional pointers. I heartily recommend the Shara Makeup Studio! read more

I decided to buy the Groupon deal after reading the reviews on here. I would have to say that I completely agree with them. I arrived late because of train issues but I didn't feel like Danielle rushed or short cut me in any way. I got the 90 minute make up lesson so she walked me through the day look and night look. I was afraid that with the stuff she was piling on my face, that I would be sold the items which would quickly add up. Danielle was encouraging and answered questions along the way. I am glad that she didn't try to sell me on anything. I think because of that, I actually do want to buy some of the products, especially that liner pen! The only complaint I have is that the place is hard to find. Shara is in a salon and the salon is in a hotel. Plus, there is no cell reception down in the salon. When I arrived, there was no one at the reception area. After waiting a while, I wandered to where some of the people were and then they went to get Danielle in a discreet room by the reception area. Apparently Danielle did call me when I was late, but I didn't get the message until well after the appointment was over because I didn't have reception. If anyone would like to learn some good make up techniques, I would highly recommend Shara Makeup and Danielle. read more

My review is a bit overdue but after I have been to other salon lately, I realized how good Shara and Daniel were. My first time at Shara Studio was with Shara herself and both Shara and Amanda were amazing in every way possible. I got so many compliments after having makeup done here, I felt confident throughout the night. I also have done makeup with Daniel and she will just lift your mood with her upbeat personality. She will accommodate till you are satisfied. She listened what I wanted carefully and delivered a great result ! . I recently learned not all makeup artists would make same effort to make customer leave happy as much as they did (in light of my horrible experience with other makeup artist). Shara makeup studio is definitely belong to top 3 among which I have experienced. I will definitely go back to this studio (sometimes you need to make an appointment early enough as she is popular! ) read more

If you are a girl, then you need to pay Shara a visit! Shara's make up lesson was AMAZING! I came into her studio a bit frazzled from the day, told her I'm a new mommy and have left my beauty routine on auto-pilot for so many years now, and needed a fresh start. She was so much fun to be around, and took all of the stress out of it! Not only was she so informative with how to apply each piece of makeup, her assistant took great notes for me to go home with (which I look at all the time!) Within 1 hour, I went from feeling frumpy about myself, to feeling so confident about myself and my ability to do my make up like that everyday! She gave me great ideas for daytime (very natural, and easy to apply) and showed me how to "bump" it up for evening. This make up lesson is perfect for any woman, any age, single, married...treat yourself to a makeup lesson with Shara! I'm thinking of having Shara do a big party with all of my girlfriends and my mom-the girls in my life would love it! You leave Shara's studio feeling like your best gal pal has helped you unlock the secret to life. Seriously, she rocks. read more

I was given a Groupon as a gift for the 1 hour makeup application lesson at Christmas in 2013. I finally went in to use it the other week and I cannot tell you how happy I am. First of all, I had a scheduling mix up when I first arranged to use it in December, but the ladies at Shara were fine with me postponing it until, eventually, February, even though it had technically expired in December - super sweet and accommodating. Second of all, I am not the best candidate for such an experience because I have terribly sensitive skin AND I am wary of people using foreign products on my face. So, poor Jennifer had an uphill battle with me. I was a bit of a unique customer as I ended up only doing the eye portion of the makeup while in the studio - but this was my choice due to my sensitivities to products. I couldn't handle starting from scratch and risking a reaction, even though Shara's products are oil free and seem to be geared toward any skin type. I explained my situation and Jennifer was super kind and not intimidating in the least, which is a huge plus for someone in my shoes. I am a tinted BB cream, mascara kind of makeup user, so this was a world of learning in just an hour. Jennifer went through the steps verbally, explaining when you would use a moisturizer and a primer and a foundation before applying the rest of your eye/cheek/lip makeup even though we didn't actually perform all the steps. We then decided to go with a light smokey eye look using some brown/bronze tones (I have fair skin and brown eyes and blond hair) and she did one eye while I followed and tried to replicate on the other. This was super helpful as any time I might have a question about the process, I was actually involved in it and the solution while seated in the chair. If I could follow the steps, then trust me, ANYONE can since I am such a novice. At the end of the session you receive a list of the products recommended, the brushes used for application and an overview of each step so that you can recreate your "look" when you are at home on your own. I ended up purchasing quite a few of the items we used in the session as I really enjoyed the look that Jennifer created for me. When I got home, I realized that one of the items I had wanted to purchase was in fact not in the bag (a different product was there in its stead) and after a quick email to Shara, she happily and promptly sent the proper product on the way. The women here were not only helpful, but very approachable, so I highly recommend coming here for a makeup lesson if you are looking to learn. Thanks to them I now can actually recreate a smokey eye at home - something I never thought I could learn to do so effectively. read more

Overall, I had a good experience. I learned how to apply blush and bronzer, as well as some great tips for eyeliner and eyeshadow, which I completely had given up on wearing. Having read the website, I brought the makeup I currently use with me, but was never asked if I had brought make up, so they just used their own line. In retrospect, I suppose I should have brought it up, but thought I might have misread the website. I think the powder foundation that I already owned matched my skin tone a lot better than the tinted primer they used. She was very patient when I kept changing my mind about which products I wanted to get and was not at all pushy about the products. I just ended up getting a primer and mascara, because those were the holes in my existing makeup collection anyway. But overall, I was happy. read more

I went for a 60 min make up lesson. It was a life changing experience. I learned so much and can not wait to go back to learn more. I highly recommend going for a make up lesson or gifting it to your friends or family for holidays & birthdays. I had no idea how easy it would be to achieve a flawless, rested complexion. I am not at all skilled when it comes to make up, I have a hard time painting my nails! She was very through and extremely friendly and easy to talk to. Most of the time make up artists are hard to follow but She is a great teacher and makes the experience fun and practical. She does not try to sell you services or her own make up line, but I ended up purchasing some of the stuff we used anyway because the colors really complemented and matched my skin tone. I have sensitive skin so I was hesitant at first, but as soon as I got home I checked the ingredients in her make up line and it is comparable to a very high end line used in most cosmetic surgeon & spas. The prices are reasonable, and so far no break outs from anything I purchased! read more

I had an appointment with Danielle this past Saturday. I'm having a destination wedding so I wanted to get the right look and learn to apply it myself, since it's a risk trying someone new right on wedding day. The makeup lesson was so much fun! Danielle is professional, warm and friendly, and really encouraging! Going in I felt kind of awkward because my makeup application skills are so rudimentary (and sometimes makeup people can be a little snobby?) but Danielle was the opposite and made me feel really comfortable and I was completely at ease. I felt pampered! My friends were wowed by the result and said I look "so beautiful, and just like you but heightened" which is exactly what I wanted. Not overdone, yet glamorous and elegant. We used my own blush and eyebrow pencil, and Shara products for the rest, which made sense to me because I was going for a wedding-day look and my own makeup products are for everyday in terms of color, etc. There was no pressure to buy anything. I highly recommend making an appointment with Danielle! My eyes in particular have never looked better! read more

I visited Shara's Makeup Studio a few weeks ago, and I'm so glad I did! She was very welcoming, patient and detail oriented. She asked me what I hoped to gain from the experience, and then tailored the lesson to suit what I was looking for. I bought the Groupon and I was thrilled with this purchase. The money I saved on the Groupon allowed me to buy some of the make up that Shara used during the lesson. It should be noted that Shara does not push you into buying any products, she simply lets you know what she is using and why. The decision to buy any products is left completely up to you. Overall I am beyond delighted with my experience. I learned some excellent tips and my daily make up application is much faster and it is definitely better as a result. I will definitely be returning if I ever need my make up done for a special occasion. It was a very professional, approachable and enjoyable experience! read more

I got a private makeup lesson by Shara about 2 years ago and have been a fan of her makeup and what she taught me ever since. And after just getting my latest refill of makeup in the mail in a shiny and colorful padded shipping envelope, I felt the urge to make sure others know how great she and her products are. I've been using her hydrating face lotion, satin slip primer, powder foundation and blemish stick for these 2 years now and love it. I've tried different things here and there from other places, but haven't found anything as good. A few months ago, I was prepping for my 30th bday in Vegas and called with a question, she picked up and even remembered me from 2 years ago. She had a recommendation and even ran to the post office that night to ensure my order made it to me in time, even though packages had already been picked up for the day. Im summary... amazing service, amazing products, amazing people. read more

I just had to write this unsolicited review of Shara. I decided to treat myself and bought a Yelp deal for a private makeup lesson. It was super convenient to book the appointment online. Shara is all smiles and so warm and personable. I'm pretty good at putting on my makeup so I wasn't sure how much I would 'learn' but Shara definitely taught me some techniques and gave my makeup routine a much needed re-boot. I usually wear Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, etc... but I really liked some of the products she used and bought some at the end. Shara is so laid back and there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything after the session. If you're on the fence I highly encourage you to treat yourself to a makeup lesson with Shara. Her five star reviews are well deserved! read more

I didn't have my makeup done by Shara only my eye lashes. I've had my eye lashes done before but never was able to see the glue or be so uncomfortable with them on. My last pair lasted over a month but by Shara they were falling off right away. I stayed away from steam and water to my eyes. As I sit here at work they are all falling off one by one. Shara couldn't be nicer. Studio was very nice and private. She listened to what I wanted for my engagement shoot. Her pricing was very reasonable. I didn't do a trial which was a bit of a risk but well worth it. I made the appointment the day before, online, making things super easy. Shara was professional, punctual and a joy to chat with as she made me look my best. I had airbrush makeup applied and was sad to take it off. I had the best experience at Shara! The airbrush makeup application came out flawless and she was so nice and friendly! I highly recommend!

Shara is one of the most wonderful, talented and beautiful people I ever met. She did my makeup for my wedding on 9/5/08 and since then every single one of my friends has booked her for their weddings. There is no denying she is AMAZING!!! I still continue to reach out to her for skin and makeup advice. I recently purchased makeup from her makeup by shara line and I am in LOVE!!! After going through tons of expensive makeup like Dior, smashbox and bare minerals that had no coverage and didn't last the day, I went to Shara. Who knows makeup better than a seasoned makeup artist? I am amazed by the flawless results and I am so happy to have met her. read more

These women are AMAZING!! From the very start, Shara has been a dream to work with. Our original appointment had to be rescheduled because of the impending Blizzard, but she was so accommodating, we were able to get in the following week. I was a bit nervous, as I don't spend a ton of time or money on makeup, and I got this as a Groupon. Walking into the Pierre hotel with my bag of mostly drugstore makeup, I thought "These ladies are going to laugh me right out of the chair". I worked with Amanda, who oohed and ahhed over my makeup, loving the colors I already own and getting excited just imagining the possibilities. The lesson itself was so helpful. They spent time talking about brush techniques, color choices, and ways to change my everyday look up a little. Each time she did something, she then handed the brush over to me and critiqued my application of the same thing on the other side of my face. And then she took the time to write down everything she did, from the color, whose makeup it was (mine or theirs), and the color name. It was simply awesome. It's not surprising that the girls used their own makeup products and gave me the option to buy them, they are businesswomen, after all. But they weren't pushy about it, and the pricing was reasonable. After the wonderful experience, I had no qualms about spending $100 on a brush, primer, foundation, mascara and eye color. The products are quality and I will be purchasing from them again. All in all, the experience was wonderful. Shara is a smart businesswoman with a great eye for color and style. Both my friend and I walked out of there looking and feeling like a million bucks! read more

I found Shara via a groupon deal and it was well worth it!! I have been in a bit of a rut lately with makeup and wanted a lesson to give me some ideas and play around with looks. I should tell you I am pretty skilled at makeup but it's been years since I got so involved and excited. Shara and her assistant were great! I felt like I was spending the afternoon with friends, not paying of a service. I finally learned what you do with a fan brush!! I brought some of my makeup staples and she used some of them for the lesson. She found the perfect shade of blush for me...which it's easy for afro-american skin. Yeah I bought stuff, but no pressure at all. She has the most amazing primer that I am totally addicted to! I highly recommend this makeup studio. I know I'll return again. read more

This review is long over due. I have been quite busy for the past two weeks since seeing Shara for my makeup class. I found a livingsocial or groupon deal and asked my friend, Francis if she wanted to go together. We called the studio and made an appointment. We arrived on time and met Shara and another makeup artist. We were given a one on one makeup class. I had Shara and Francis had the other artist. The room was small but comfortable. They did a great job with the space. Shara was so sweet and professional. They both were. I felt like we were at a sleepover with my friends. We had a great time! She was so patient with me showed me how to hold the brushes and how to apply and stroke my face. Shara used a combination of my makeup and hers. My friend Francis who is awesome with eye makeup techniques learned a few more tricks. She was so happy with the results. We both were. We had tons of questions and they answered them all. After the class they laid out the products they used on us, with no pressure what so ever to purchase anything, but we did :-). Who could resist. Shara's brand makeup was so light and airy that we couldn't even feel it on. My favorite was her primer. The moment she applied it I saw a difference. My face was glowing and my pores appeared smaller, diminished, practically nonexistent. The "Fan" brush is a-must-have. Love it!!! I also purchased a foundation, but I wasn't too thrilled with it. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but I'm not a foundation person, I just wanted to cut that step out of my daily routine. Besides the primer offered excellent coverage when applied under a bronzer or mineral power. I contacted Shara and explained to her why I didn't want it. She was like fine, no problem just drop by when you can and return it. It was as easy as that. While I was there I purchased or should I say exchanged the foundation for the bronzer - excellent! So if you are ever in town or looking for someone to help you apply makeup the right way, look up Shara. Great place, good time, and the right look for you. Whether you're looking for an everyday look, an evening look or you have a special event, she's the one to see. Was there anything that the studio could have improved on ... yes. The lighting in the studio could have been a little bit brighter. It was a bit dim. Not dark and cozy dim, but not bright enough to see how your makeup will look in the office or outside in the day light. Everything else was perfect. Thank you Shara. read more

I choose Jennifer Margaret, for a make-up lesson based on how her makeup looked on the picture and I'm glad I did. I am the worst at makeup, but this amazing beautiful lady made me able to do a great makeup application on the first try AFTER the session. And this was 3 days after our session. I'm definitely going in for another lesson. I thought no one could help me but she changed my perspective. Thank you so much if you ever read this. You are an angel. read more
