One employee even made eye contact with me, turned around, and walked away without asking if I needed any assistance. Wow, six years later and I'm still sad that our Sephora sucks so much. I went in over the weekend bc I was interested in trying some new products. I watch a lot of YouTube and read a lot about beauty products, hair products, etc. It is widely known that Sephora is generous with their samples bc they are generous with their return policy. They'd much rather you take a tiny sample of Sunday Riley Good Genes and try it first than buy and then return a $105 bottle that they can't resell. Or so logic and the internet would have you believe. I went in and grabbed a few "try me" items I've had on my wish list. I intended to shop around while my samples were being made. I waited in line, then asked the cashier for samples. She said "you want samples of ALL of these?" I said "yes, please." She said "we only do 3." I said "No, you do 3 per category- skincare, hair care and makeup." She rolled her eyes and asked a fellow employee if any of these things already had prepared samples. When she was told that she'd have to make them she stalked off...and was gone for like 20 minutes. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to find me if I browsed around the store so I just stood awkwardly by the register. She finally come back and tossed the samples on the counter and walked away. I was confused if she was done, or if I was supposed to wait, or what. So I waited a minute, then picked up the samples and left. Oh, and I've been told that Sephora employees are supposed to print something from the register with the name, price, ingredients and customer rating of your sample, but of course I didn't get that- I got partial names written in sharpie on the outside of the ziplock. Ok, whatever. All this to say that I will continue to purchase from Sephora...online! I don't want to give this store any of my business. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I have been a Sephora Rouge member (top tier membership) for the past 8+ years and it is my go to place for my cosmetics and skin care, so I expect to be treated with at least some respect and dignity as a loyal customer. I moved to Durham and this is the closest location to me, but there are a couple employees here who absolutely hate their job and should not be working here. One of my more recent visits, I came to ask about a fragrance and the lady was extremely unpleasant and rude, and very combative. I wish I could remember her name because she was so unprofessional when I asked about a Chanel perfume and she was not interested in helping me out or answering my questions. Another time I came in (two days ago) to find that the entire store was closed for no apparent reason and the lady inside said they will be open the next day. I come back the next day, almost noon, and they're closed again! I literally went all the way to the mall just to stop by Sephora, and two days in a row they were shut down with no forewarning. This time the lady tells me it's because their AC is not working. If they had only told me that on my earlier visit and that it might not be fixed for a couple of days, that would have been more professional. Instead of making me rely on their statement and be completely misled and waste my time. I tried calling before my second visit and it went to the generic answering machine, so even if they had given a heads up that way, that would have been more professional. Durham, NC-Southpoint Mall. I made an appt for a make over for my daughter's prom. Paid the $30 deposit. Showed up on May 6th (the day of prom) and there was NO appt. Spoke with Kevin (manager) who sd he was booked and had no appt for KY baby. My child then purchase make up because she can actually do other self. Welllll the real issue is the ddue to some glitch in the software, Sephora charged my account 37 times at $30 each. That caused my acct to go in the negative All my payneents for other bills bounced, rent late. Kevin gae me a gift bag of free samples of things I don't even use and thought would smoke over things . After a convo with corporate and screenshots of my account, I finally received my refund. I had to shut down the card and wait for another one in the mail. Not one time did I receive an official apology. I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN THIS STORE. I had a late for rent and they should've paid it. Hands down worst Sephora I have visited. The salespeople always seem more interested in each other than the customers and seem put out when asked for help. The cashiers can't get rid of you fast enough and don't look at you when speaking. I've been a customer of Sephora for years and have lived all over the country. I expect better than the way this store is managed, I think most people do when shopping at this type of store otherwise you'd just shop online. You're better off driving the extra distance to another Sephora or going to Nordstrom for better service. They have a lot of the prestige brands I love. Nars, MUFE, urban decay, Lancôme, YSL, etc. I qualified for rouge two years in a row, mostly by buying clarisonics as gifts. I'm going to miss that status next year. They open up the doors early for rouge customers a few times a year and have brand reps. Once, they had a clarisonic rep who gave me a free replacement head, which is about $30 value. What I love about shopping here is their generous return policy. Even if you've used it and it's been two months, you can get your money back. read more

This is a review for the Sephora in JCPenney. I don't particularly like the stand alone shop in the mall. I never get good service there. If you go a little further you will find a wonderfully supplied Sephora in JCP with great customer service. If you need help I would go here first. As you can see from my picture, I probably wear too much makeup. I know. But although I have but one face I am always fascinated to try new colors, pots and pans of the latest color iterations. But I am picky about where I shop. I won't go in an Ulta, some makeup departments and definitely pass up and go to JCP. The girls that work there are so sweet and generally have more time to help you play around. No high pressure sales just conversation and girl talk. They have some different palettes that the other Sephora doesn't carry that is just for JCP so you might find something you like better there or fits the bill. I kind of like having the store to myself but thought I would share this with you if you wanted to not be crowded out or left unassisted. read more

Besides the awesomeness of the Sephora business model, something needs to be said for the helpful makeup artists who work at the Southpoint location. I came in for makeup tips for an 80's event, and my helper (sorry, still bad with names) not only looked over the entire store, but also called in another helper to add to their collective creative juices. I came out with neon yellow all over my lids with orange, red, and hot pink flames coming out of the outer corners. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but still applied well to my event needs. On the hunt for some new foundation, I wanted to check out Sephora. You can go online and book several services to include help with your brows, lips, lashes, foundation, and all the way up to a 60 min full face makeover. I arrived before my appointment and was immediately greeted by a staff member. Soon enough Leslie arrived and we talked about what my needs were. I wanted a BB Cream because in theory they are better for your skin but sadly Sephora does not carry many BB cream options. Using the color IQ technology, she scanned several spots on my face and neck to see which products and color would best suit me. She applied the first match, which we both agreed was a good fit. There was no pressure to buy and I left without purchasing the cream, as I wanted to see how it lasted over a few hours. Great service and love that you can schedule an appointment so you are given the full attention of a staff member. The only down side is the fact you only get to try one foundation per appointment, which is understandable since they are only 15 minute slots. I really like the Streets at Southpoint Sephora location. They often have the products that I am looking for; whereas, the store in Crabtree tends to always be out of my eyeliner. It's a bummer since that location is closer to me. Also, the staff at this location seem much friendlier and willing to assist you/answer questions. It's awesome that they offer free tutorials to show you how to enhance your makeup. I do my makeup pretty much everyday; so, I appreciate this. It allows me to test out products and see them on my face before I purchase them. Quality makeup isn't cheap! Therefore, it's nice to know what you're getting before you buy it. During this visit, I stopped in to buy eyeliner and to ask for help with filling in my brows. They signed me up on the list and had a beauty associate greet me when she was available. It wasn't a long wait at all. The associate was super friendly and knowledgeable about how to shape and fill in your brows for a natural look (which is what I was looking for). After she did one brow, she had me do the other. This was great because she guided me which allowed me to practice and learn how to do it on my own. My brows looked great when I was done!! I will certainly be back to this store whenever I need to re-stock my essentials :). read more

The Durham Sephora store is larger than the Raleigh location and carries a slightly wider range of products, such as OCC lip tars and more sizes of skin care items/perfumes in certain lines. It's usually pretty busy and this time of year it can be slightly disheveled, as the staff tend to put attending to customers before making sure the testers are in their correct spots in a display - which isn't a bad thing! Because it's so busy, and because some people are terribly sloppy, I find it pays to double-check that the box you grabbed is actually the right one for the item you wanted to buy and not something another customer just shoved into the wrong spot. Also, if a product appears to be out of stock on the shelves there may be some in the lower storage drawers so just ask! If you're unsure whether a product will work for you, an associate is generally able to provide you with a sample or a colour match - don't be that person putting on makeup from the testers on display! All Sephora stores carry mid-ranger and higher-end makeup, so don't come here expecting the kind of deals you can get at CVS, but the customer service matches the price range. I find that I'm left alone when I indicate I want to be, and given assistance when I ask - just the way I like it! The Beauty Insider card tracks your purchases and gives you points for every dollar spent, which can be redeemed for trial size/deluxe samples of various products. All in all, if the art of beauty is on your mind then Sephora should be on your list! read more

I usually find it easy to get lost in these kinds of stores as I am pretty hopeless in picking make-up and skincare products. When I find a product I like I usually stick with it just so I don't have to go through the hit/miss experience over and over again. So imagine the panic I was in when I went into Sephora last Tuesday and they were out of my usual powder (Benefit in the shade of Honey). One of the associates must have noticed my panicked expression because she sweetly came over to ask if there was anything she could help with. I asked if there was more of this product anywhere in the store. She checked and informed me that they had just got a shipment in so that they would have more on Wednesday. Again with the panic. I told her that I was out of powder and I had somewhere to go that evening (heaven help me if I have to leave the house without make-up esp during the pasty white months of winter) and asked if she could recommend something comparable. She told me she knew just the thing and over to the Make Up For Ever section we went. Quick sigh of relief because this is a product I'm familiar with. I use a Primer from this line (a Sephora associate recommendation) and I'm quite happy with that. She told me that not only was the product comparable in quality but its a couple bucks cheaper (nice!) so we did a quick color match and I was on my way. I also got her to help me pick out a new powder brush and a brush cleaner. The other thing that I love with Sephora is that they have a pretty rockin' rewards program. I love rewards programs, they really do make me shop at one place over another. I love earning free stuff spending the same amount of money I planned on spending anyway. The products are pricey if you are comparing them to Cover Girl, Maybelline, ect, but as with all things in life you get what you pay for. Thats not to say that I don't buy Maybelline (I use their mascara) or Cover Girl (hello eyeshadow) but I choose to spend a bit more on my primers and foundations because if its going to go all over my face I want it to 1) work and 2) not tear my face up. Summary: Sephora is great for people who don't know squat about make up/skin care products and need an expert opinion and for those who like quality products at competitive prices (with a rewards system for your loyalty). read more

Okay I had an AWESOME experience here. I just moved to NC from CA and was feeling girly and pouty and sorry for myself. I'm still looking for a job, and grad school boyfriend is all busy and important and stuff. Obviously, I needed some new eyeshadow. Krista spotted me from a mile away, complimented my outfit, offered help, and then sat me down for an impromptu makeover. I know what you're thinking, and I was too, but after sitting there for 40 minutes, exchanging our life stories, and she introduced me to several coworkers, who were equally sweet, she gave me her number, said to look her up on facebook, and then didn't even try to get me to buy anything but the eyeshadow I had originally wanted. She was super positive and encouraging, too. I ended up spending more money than I intended, but don't regret a thing. The ladies at the cash register were equally friendly. I went today to look at foundation for a wedding. Upon entering, no one spoke to me so I browsed some but they all looked concerned with the door or gullible older woman confused about brow products. I patiently waited for someone to come up to me since I couldn't tell who was occupied and who wasn't, but it took a good 15 minutes. I was simply acknowledged with "hello" and an unpleasant look, and I jumped in and said "I need help with foundation". So she went and got someone, who went and got someone. An older woman approached and asked what I needed, told me to take a seat, then looked at me like I was stupid when I didn't follow her. I explained my situation, and she immediately started picking out shades of Hourglass foundation for me, but I had to cut her off and say I wanted to try Urban Decay or Kat Von D or a few other brands (Hourglass is a tad over what I'm comfortable paying for). She didn't listen, kept pulling things, and I had to insist we go look to the other side. She finally says "Well, I"m going to get someone else, because I'm a brand rep for Hourglass". That explains it. She then walks away, muttering "I dont' know why you wont let me just do half of your face...". It was unbelievably rude and pushy and I finally got help and a sample and made my way out.. Never liked this Sephora, never will! read more
