Yesterday 5/4:26 the worst customer service and experience I have ever had in Sephora. Super light staff those that were working avoided any assistance. The security guard was the only helpful person. On the floor. The store was unusually empty and not stocked well. I was feeling very anxious because this thing was being recorded and who knows where it will end up, but she was so patient and thorough and did an AMAZING job. Ooof this Sephora. If you're looking for something it's probably not in stock. You can tell this Sephora gets a lot of foot traffic. Things are disorganized, the samples are destroyed, and nothing seems to be in stock. The location itself seems tired. There were a ton of staff here and a couple did ask if I needed help which I appreciated. I did find a couple things l was looking for and some that I'll order. i cannot believe this is happening, i have been a fan of this store for 7 YEARs, I've used their brand lipsticks since my middle school dance recital, ive been loyal and what did I get for it?? a broken heart! It all started a week ago when my fiancé (technically boyfriend but I was going to propose at our next mudslides and movie marathon but whatvr) told me we should go out to dinner and I should dress up. I was over the gosh darn moon. Then i saw this one new sephora product on my feed & thought OOH PERFECT! I'll get a new snazzy color to pucker up on my man with, wink wink right ladies ;) so I ran to my Sephora and got the last one. i put it on and the color and feel was fantastick! The formula didn't smell weird at all and trust me I know weird smells and I adored how it complimented my eyes. but then the day of reckoning came.. i went out to the dinner with my fianceboyfriend and it was the worst day of my life. never have I been laughed at and pointed at more than in that applebees across Mickey D's. I thought maybe they were pointing at someone behind me until jeremy drove up in his golf cart. he looked so handsome in his tuxedo t-shirt :3 but...as he pulled up to the curb his smile faded and he looked shocked. As a Sephora customer with a certain tier level, there's an expectation you already have when walking through their doors. I've visited this location several times for my go-to purchases and I head out the door. On my last visit, I was killing some time during lunch and was browsing through the fragrance section and asked the person working in that area if I can get a sample of three different perfumes. Her immediate response was that I can only obtain two samples, as that is what she was informed by her manager, who was not around, for questions. She indicated that another reason she can only provide two samples is because she was the only person working in the fragrance section, which by the way is smaller than other Sephora locations and there were no other customers in sight. Even with two samples she only provided one with a label and placed them in one little zip lock type bag. My impression of some of the staff members working the floor, in this particular location is that they tend to be lazier and disrespectful. I've heard snickers under their breath, sucking of teeth and twirling of eyes. As I recall "we" the customers should be treated a certain way it is very unprofessional and we are the reason for their multi-billion dollar business. Sephora is by far not a drug store therefore those working in their establishment should conduct themselves professionally. With that being said, upper management should re-train their staff to show respect, act accordingly in order to represent their company as a whole in a certain caliber. As for the sample rule, other Sephora stores in NYC provide up-to three samples, not sure if this is only for the downtown Brooklyn location. read more

Prior to Covid I reluctantly came here for a full face makeup session ($50) and I had to approach an employee first in order to be checked in for my appointment. I love me some Sephora because of the variety they serve, however, I love a Sephora with great customer service. The Sephora in Brooklyn on the corner of Court Street and Joralemon Avenue is the place to go if you are in the area! From the time you walked in, there are cast members waiting to say hello and thank you for coming to the store. This is one of the few Sephora that have an abundance of cast member on the stage (sales floor) ready to tend to your needs. It has been awhile since I have seen this as I am typically searching for one to help me. I was able to run into lovely Amelia who came to my aid in reading the bottom of a lipstick label for the color. She saved me from having to take a picture of the bottom of the lipstick and expanding the picture...thank you for her youthful eyes, energy and assistance! Next I had the pleasure of meeting Kyia who not only pulled me off the line to ring me up but personally hunted me down and called me when I left the store without one of my products. Now she could have totally put it back on the shelf or kept it for herself BUT she had my number and called me. This resulted in an about face back to the store to get my purchase which was nicely waiting for me behind the counter. Kyia had ensured all the right people were aware I was returning back to get. I really appreciated her honesty and being proactive. I truly value this level of service, so I am telling you now stop by and check them out for yourself. read more

This store has been poorly run for some time and nothing will make it any better as long as people continue to shop there. It's time to stop patronizing them. Years ago I had a very demeaning incident with a Sephora sales agent named "Jen" (she's older, white, large-bodied). She was rude to me when I asked for service and lectured me about her being "busy." I walked away from her (to avoid confrontation) and this woman followed me. Yes, she had no time to help me with a Fenty product but she had time to FOLLOW me in the store and lecture me. When she threatened to have me ejected from the store. I turned around and yelled at her "Stop following me!" She finally stopped bullying me and came to the realization that I could verbally defend myself. I then complained about her conduct to the manger (I think his name was David) who was very kind and helpful and directly helped me. Whenever I shopped there I worked with him. Since the manager left the store has spiraled downward even more. The cosmetic specialists are busy partying among each other swapping stories and jokes and not attending to the customers. The manager (tall southern guy) doesn't try to be helpful. I'm not sure if they're understaffed but after pouring THOUSANDS of my hard earned dollars into Sephora I've decided to NEVER step into this store again. No other Sephora is run as poorly as J Street in Brooklyn. I've also decided to shop with Ulta and department stores. There are other places to purchase cosmetics. read more

Had a fabulous experience here. I booked a makeup reservation for an 11 AM slot. The parking gods were gracious to me and I actually got a perfect spot right across the street and it wasn't meter parking! Unheard of in downtown BK. The store wasn't busy when I arrived and to my pleasant surprise, not only did I get makeup done, but they skin prepped me at the skin care station. It was basically a mini facial and I loved it! Tamara was excellent. Post skin prep, I went to the beauty studio and Adeline blessed my face. I've only used Fenty and Bobbi Brown foundation so I was planning on sticking with that, but she suggested Cover fx and I decided to let her do her thing and she delivered! She mixed two colours since they didn't have my complexion and it matched well. I showed her a picture and told her I wanted a natural but glowy look and she nailed it. Of course I insisted on having Fenty Trophy Wife and she mixed it in with a Nars blush to make it blend nicely. Solid 3.5 stars. I have been shopping at Sephora since forever even before this location opened several years ago (I guess I'm a bit late with this review). When it was rumored that a Sephora would be opening on a busy Court Street corner back then, it was cause for celebration. At least to me because it's my preference to buy most of my cosmetics and perfume at Sephora. Once it opened, a launching party was held which I attended. It was fun and I left with some goodies and Brooklyn Sephora totebag in hand. Fast forward to today and I have been a frequent shopper at this location. How can I not when it's practically located in my backyard? It's also the only Brooklyn Sephora so far (not located in a JC Penny outlet). I will be honest for a second. There are a couple other Sephora locations that ranks as my favorite. Two would be Herald Square and the beautiful, spacious Rockefeller Center store which moved a couple blocks away from its former location last year. Those locations, for example, will carry just about every brand you're familiar with and even those you are not. Some of my nitpicks about this Brooklyn location is the inability to find an available beauty consultant on the floor to assist, the long lines that wrap around the counter and the occasional out of stock items. Speaking for myself, I rarely require assistance and there's plenty of merchandise to choose from. The staff is helpful and courteous. Returns are painless** and quick. Right around the holidays, as a VIP Beauty Insider, I received a 45 minute custom makeover which I really enjoyed. The consultant was knowledgeable and since I was going out that evening, she listened to my preferences. I like my makeup understated and subdued; not confetti-like colorful. I was pleased with the results and received an email with every product that was used for my look upon completion. This was quite helpful as I now have it tucked away for future use and can refer to it. It's great to have a nicely sized Sephora in this neck of the woods. Despite this, the employees manage to maintain cleanliness and safety throughout the store and they have a wide range of stock too! Yeah, they've got a Beauty Studio, but so far they can't do anything with me. Yeah, those products are high quality, but nowhere else will you spend larger amounts of money on smaller amounts of stuff. Another horrible experience in this store. I was there for 20 minutes and ready to replace a considerable amount of make-up. However: 1) I was never asked by any sales folks whether I needed assistance. I heard several other people express frustration as well. 2) Most of the make-up displays were poorly kept up. It looked like a free for all with people using the products as if it was their own. So, most areas were missing eye shadow colors, product packages for purchase weren't stocked, etc. 3) Since I couldn't see the actual displays, I took an eye shadow container out of its box to validate what I was getting and was reprimanded by a security guard for doing so. After I asked how I was supposed to see the colors because the display was not visible and was met with a stare but no response, I put down my intended purchases and left. What more can I say I'm a make up junkie and love coming to Sephora to get all the necessities pertaining to make up and fragrance. I also like the fact that this place is close to my job so I find it hard to resist going there after work or on a lunch break. Although it is usually quiet at lunch time but in the evening rush hour good luck finding someone to help you out with your basic needs, that's when the craziness begins. The staff there is usually friendly and informative of what you are looking for but sometimes it's a waste of time event asking them for the help they sometimes have no idea where certain products are and have little information about it. Which can be a drag. But if you're in the downtown Brooklyn area on a lunch break go ahead its usually the best time when it is less busy. This is the worst Sephora I've ever been to. When i walked in no one greeted me, handed me a bag, nor asked if i needed anything. The product on display was trash and dirty ( if there was any product on display ) . Everything was tossed around on the selves and wasn't presented in a consumer friendly manner. When I did look around for help, I saw two workers in the front chit chatting. At some point someone did come to help me. I was looking for a primer which the Sephora app said they had in stock at the store. When the SA pulled the drawer out all the products were dissolved and unorganized. It took her 6 mins of looking around to find a primer - she never found it. This Sephora really needs new manager or needs to be review by corp - especially being in a popular area. She is warm and wonderful. Word to the wise: Sephora allows you to sample their products such as perfume, skin care and cosmetics. Some of the communal cosmetics gross me out, but I do love me some perfume and Caudalie eye cream! I love Sephora so much because of all genres of products and variety of brands. Sephora's website was running slow and every monitor emits RGB colors differently as I have become very accustomed to PMS and CMYK colors from previous professional printing experience. This Sephora location mixed their brand eyeliner formats of pencil with retractable waterproof which I had a hard time to distinguish and requested assistance. Their well known eyeliner packaging has also changed which the only way to identify of purchasing the same exact color is the color number. I always love their finishes: matte, shimmer, or glitter. The cashier appears incompetent holding my card blurting a stolid "debit or credit?" followed by a well-familiar doomed "Can I see identification?" without matching my signature on the reverse side as required when you perform cashier duties. "Do you want a bag?" whom the man did not wrap tissue paper for my purchased objects but dumped everything inside the bag. He hesitated to return my Beauty Insider loyalty card as I had to reached over to attain it. This is by far the worst Sephora branch I have ever visited. The location manager should be questioned. When interacting with a sales rep name Sheila to make a return, she did not say hello and had a hostile attitude. She barely used full sentences during the whole conversation, I walked out of that location feeling like I already have a terrible morning. The situation was even more outrageous the last time I was at the store, to get a facial. The facial appointment started 20 mins late and the artist did not even apologize for it. She was clearly not trained to do the facial, cinching my face extremely hard but tried to convince me that's how all facials feel like. Ewww, no. In the end, I learnt from her chatting with her colleague that she is covering for another people who was supposed to do my facial last minute. Horrible sephora! Long lines unhelpful staff is a recipe for disaster. Trying to find someone to help you find a product is like attempting to search for a needle in a hay stack. There was no one to greet me at the door which seems dumb but they really can assist you in directing you through the maze of a store. I went there to purchase one product which is my obsession tarts rainforest of the sea foundation and when I was in line there was a line for CASH ONLY which was so dumb because majority of people were paying credit card. The sephora in the city you are able to check out with the individuals walking around.... I think they should assist in hiring more staff and giving them equipment to be able to check people out without having everyone join one main line. Go to a different sephora on 42nd and broadway. On my wedding day, the contracted make up artist didn't show up! #Freakoutmoment. My sisters & bridesmaids contacted Sephora in BK heights and they took us in without appointment! It was 8 of us and they could have not been any nicer and comforting. We were there before noon and was out on time to do the pre wedding photo session. Every time I've gone into this location I am ALWAYS greeted and asked if I need any assistance. I love how well lit and arranged everything is. The floor to ceiling mirrors and the LED mirrors are amazing. Perfect lighting to swatch products with. I'm a young black woman between ages 25-30yo. I have normal skin and winter months leave me on the dry side. I have a slightly darker under eye complexion but a pretty clear/even skin tone overall. Still I prefer full coverage foundation over a light to medium build. I'm a full on glam type of lady! Skincare however - natural skincare preferably, is becoming near and dear to my heart. I visit this particular SEPHORA location often. I spend a lot of time and money in SEPHORA. Almost every visit I spend a minimum of 1.5hrs to 3 hrs max, no matter the location. I'd spend more time if there was a bathroom or a place to put my bags and coat but then I'd have no incentive to ever leave. I'm a beauty enthusiast. I know a good deal about makeup and a reasonable amount about skincare. I rarely need help or suggestions, but if I do ask, it's never right away because I'm feeling out the products myself. Sometimes I go there looking rather "unattractive" in my work uniform. At times I look frumpy and my badges are always covered for my safety with a jacket or more depending on the season. I work for the city, it's just too much for me to do my makeup before work to spruce things up. Also the extent of what's appropriate for work and my lust for a full on beat is problematic. So after work or during lunch breaks when I visit SEPHORA I look tired. I often flash pictures of my instagram to employees to prove I'm worthy of their insight and keep them around longer. Sometimes an employees attention span is built on the customers aesthetic - tsk tsk. Other times I'm nearby for drinks or date night etc and I look great! But regardless of the occasion I'm stopping by. I receive more smiles and genuine offers of help when I look camera ready and that's unfortunate. Well on my last trip (10/16/18), as usual, I was watched but this time I was offended because I'd reached my peak - it's happened too many times. Also because it felt racially charged - it was very disheartening. The same energy looking behind a customer that is a POC isn't spent with other customers of other racial diversities. I come there A LOT. I've seen this employee A LOT. I know they see a lot of faces everyday and my look changes but I always spend a lot of time in there and you would think by this point this particular employee would recognize me (its possible they're a Manager). "Are you finding everything okay?" asked repeatedly hardly seems sincere and starts to feel like "you better not be stealing because I'm watching you" - after a while. I also noticed brand ambassadors there (not actual SEPHORA employees) overlook me but greet and even offer to assist white / Caucasian / European customers. Maybe you should speak to them about that, it really isn't okay. Now about 3 employees at this particular location know me well enough to recognize me. Only one knows my name and that's OK I appreciate that type of service. Ironically they must have all been off or didn't start their shift during my last visit. They're always more than helpful and their race / ethnicities vary. I've also come to notice once ANY employee realizes I'm a VIB ROUGE their attitude towards me changes immensely! They perk up and become even more helpful. Before divulging that information looking around and asking for samples makes me feel like a target and looked down upon. To think offering samples is a part of your customer service and I feel bad for asking. I have one face and two hands I can't sample everything efficiently in one visit. Now perhaps you should intertwine finding out the status of a member with a greeting that encourages asking for samples of products. Less like you're trying to find out and make a caste system. No matter what level of beauty insider (or race or external aesthetic) a customer should be treated with the same integrity. Perhaps mention a reward or service while inquiring about their status (that you'd already offer regardless). Like the free mini make overs for anyone or services offered depending on your Beauty Insider tier. Do better please! I love SEPHORA! It's based on customer service and I know a great deal about that from my days at Bergdorf Goodman to my current career working with the public. I deal with criminals all day but to be treated like a perpetrator instead of a customer when shopping there. The irony is literally uncanny. The store quality in itself you may ask..... well displays are usually clean and testing supplies stocked. It's a clutch location overall. They have a large selection of products but need more portable checkout devices the lines get ridiculously long. read more

Probably my least favorite sephora, this location for sure needs to work on customer service. When a customer enters the store you should greet them correct?...you never know who is who. I have been a v.i.b forever and when I come to sephora it's usually twice a year to make a huge purchase. I was so turned off by the customer service, I picked up my fenty and birthday gift and was out. The store doesn't have a welcoming vibe at all. Thank you to the associate who helped me pick out the proper fenty foundation...this was the best part of my experience at this sephora. Just the absolute worst. I primarily go here because it's close to where I live but I rather trek to the city than be matched by rude, stuck-up, off-foundation wearing associates. I went in last month to re-up on my Clinique oil-free matte makeup. I'm usually a Cream Caramel in the summer, Deep Neutral in the winter. The little machine they use to match foundations apparently didn't have my foundation listed so without looking at ANY of the foundations, the associate says "you're an Amber." Yes, I went up 4 shades apparently. I told her I'd just find my color myself. Today I foolishly went in again looking for something else that was listed on the site. I assume with the with the discount going on, some things are sold out. Just to be sure, I asked an associate. "Whatever you see here is what we have." And she walked away. From my prior experience working in customer service, the conversation would usually continue on with "maybe we can find something else." But I wasn't a B when I worked in customer service so I guess therein lies the difference. Save yourself and just go to Union Square. read more
