Best Sephora Ever. There are many reasons to love Spehora in general: the range of brands, the no hassle returns, the free samples, the millions of testers. But not all Sephoras are created equal! Came in here with Cara P. to return a blush that I had purchased at a different Sephora and hated. There was a gal in the perfume area that we asked for a sample, and she was so nice we started to ask makeup questions. She was so helpful, so nice and so knowledgeable. She gave great recommendations and she took us to a color specialist for the things that she didn't know. The color specialist was again so nice and so helpful. She really knew her stuff and helped us wade through mountains of blushes and lipsticks. I was feeling like this Sephora trip could not get any better...until I went to check out and the gal at the register asked me if I would like any samples. I asked what she had and she said mostly skincare. When I told her my biggest issue is blackheads she said "Oooh! Hold on!" ran off and came back with a mask she thought I would love. I was floored. This Sephora always has items that are "not in stock" online! Its probably due to customer returns... like people buying online but returning in store. Either way, they always items that are sold out online. I recently got the Hello Kitty Solid Perfume Necklace for $25!!! Score. Not only was it dead stocked, but it was $10 cheaper than what it was when it was online. They also still have a lot of the train cases. Definitely check them out before you give up hope, lol... I wouldn't just call the store because a lot of times the little gems are in the sale bins (right across from the Kat Von D makeup) and the in store reps don't look there. read more

This particular location is probably my most visited Sephora. Good customer service the many times I've been there, even though it's always super crowded since the foot traffic in that area is high. When I enter, there is always someone who asks me if I need any help and even when I've needed to return something after a few months or without the receipt, I've never encountered any difficulties! read more

Maybe once a year I go on a tear and decide to buy new makeup. I'm pretty low key and am really picky about the colors that I buy and kind of like to stick with the same brands that I know and love. I came into Sephora for the first time the other day and found that there are no Mac products sold in Sephora (THE HORROR) and decided I would try something new. The 2 guys that I worked with to buy new lipstick were fantastic; they listened to what I like and don't like and found a new product for me in less than 5 minutes. It was honestly the best makeup buying experience I've had in a long time and made me an instant Sephora fan. I look forward to going back when I have more time and checking out all of the other products. read more

I definitely prefer this Sephora to the one in Cambridge. They staff here is cool and honest, and will make you a sample of something that you might need or that they've suggested. In Cambridgeside, it seems they'd rather die than make a sample of anything, and it never seems that busy over there....probably because the staff is too busy stalking you creepily. Go the extra mile at the Pru, because it seems like they definitely do. Also, big props to Vani, the nice sales person, cashier, who has always been amazingly helpful and sweet :) read more

I am a product whore...I won't spend more than fifty bucks on a pair of jeans, but I have no problem at all spending $75 on an eye cream. My hair line resembles that of Grampa on the Munsters....but I've got five different shampoos (for different moods if not needs). Sephora is my destination for goodies....mostly because Neiman's and Saks exhaust me. The selection really is amazing...I never leave without something. BUT there are two things that really put knots in my shorts. You would imagine that the people who work there would be more knowledgeable about the selection. Ask one of them for a bronzing powder that doesn't have sparkles...and watch their faces go blank. Ask about a men's fragrance and you'll hear all about how the salesperson's uncle loves it...or their best friend uses it. Expect anything else, like product information, and that blank stare will pop up again. I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who praise the people who work there...even the girls at Macy's Downtown blow Sephora's people out of the water. (Not a big fan of Macys, but their cosmetic people do tend to be better educated on product as a rule.) While I'm bitching about the staff...can I just say that I thought M.A.C employees were the only folks allowed to look like Ru Paul with a hangover? Being creative with cosmetics often involves talent rather than the nerve to wear six ounces of liquid eyeliner. Maybe all the makeup is to disguise the shocked blank look that follows most questions. My other huge gripe isn't really Sephora's fault. I am so grossed out by the women who abuse (note I say abuse, not use) the testers. I'm afraid to touch anything in that store sometimes. Are those girls so dazzled by the shiny toys that they can't remember the basic rules of health. I mean...how many women have dipped their paws into that glob of lipgloss that you plan on putting on your mouth? Really...I stand there is shock sometimes; just watching what happens to those testers. Oh, I guess there is a third thing that just irritates me to an end....you can sign up for a frequent shopper card at Sephora. The big draw to signing up is that you get gifts with every hundred dollar purchase. Has anyone else been even mildly surprized to be handed a ridiculously small sample after dropping a hundred dollars? Hit any cosmetic store in the country and get the same "gift" just by asking for a sample. Mind you, I crave anything free...so I do end up spending the money...they win....but I always feel a little used. Of course, none of the above bitches will stop me from walking in for my regular fix. Next time you're there you'll, no doubt, find me glaring (with disgust) at some college girl using some toxic mascara tester. read more

I had the worst experience with a sales lady here. I have been to Sephora in at least 5 countries, and this was the worst experience I had. Sephora, keep up with quality please and pay attention to who you hire. I had a similar experience to HoneyB. Recently I bought a few bottles of Hermes at another Sephora, and since I was in the area, stopped in this store to see if they could make me a sample of 2 scents so that I could take them on a business trip. At first I got the "we don't really make perfume samples." Then I pulled out my receipts to prove I had in fact spent several hundred on the bottles at a Sephora store. At which point, I got a friendlier reception and the samples were easily made. Then on my way out, I got the business from the security guard who proceeded to start up a conversation asking me if I found everything I needed while trying to peer into my bag. Once I explained why I had come in, she was friendly. Needless to say, I left feeling embarrassed and wished I didn't bother going in for silly samples. I'll buy the perfume at Hermes next time and just get the samples with purchase. Take your samples and shove them. read more

This store is absolutely/undoubtedly THE BEST cosmetics and beauty store I have ever been too! The make-up artists are amazing! One in particular-- Mariana--was absolutely terrific and so knowledgeable. Mariana also represents customer service at its finest. It took Mariana less than 10 minutes to help me create the look I have been trying to find for several years. If I ever give an oscar speech, I will definitely thank her for showing how patience, knowledge and excellent customer service can totally change a person's perspective on beauty and make-up. She listened and helped me with my two priorities--finding a concealer and foundation that will not make me look like I am wearing a mask (take note Macy's make-up artists at Park Street). I digress. So Mariana matched my skin tone within minutes, yes minutes. She used a primer-equalizer that was spot on! She also introduces a 3-in-1 versatile foundation-concealer-moisturizer and with SPF. She also took her time to help me define my eye make-up and lipstick shade. Most importantly in the process--I did not feel like she was trying to sell me an entire line of products that I do not need (take note Macy's make-up artists--just a PSA). Ok back to the story. Mariana and the whole store have won me over! I will be back there as soon as next week. Not only did I go home with the perfect products for my skin tone, I also went home feeling like a million bucks from all the awesomeness of Sephora beauty experts. People of the internet, I don't know who you are or what you are looking for--all I know is that Mariana and the Sephora staff at Prudential Center will help you find it. Best Sephora I have ever been to. Wonderful staff and vast selection. They were neat, well stocked.

Between the generous selection and variety of products, the tweens and Prada soccer moms, and that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that I must look atrocious daily because I don't wear nearly as much makeup or use nearly enough skin products as anyone else in the store, Sephora is incredibly overwhelming to shop. What with the goopy samples, mobs of customers, and expensive products in their streamlined packing, the store manages to be both dirty and pretty at the same time. I've only managed to tame the store long enough to find the things I need because the staff has always been very helpful. I seek out help almost every time I come here, and I've been helped to locate a perfume that Sephora didn't carry yet elsewhere, to find the perfect mascara and lipstick for a gift based on lash effect and general coloring, and to find a great de-puffing face mask for those days when it's pretty clear that I've been too busy to sleep much all week. And that's only the last few times I've been here. In my experience, the store employees are pretty damn awesome. I've never felt pressured by them, and one of the employees even laughed when we stumbled upon a $120 product for its ridiculous price. I agree that I wouldn't take makeup advice from someone sporting a bad face job (crumbly or visible foundation, streaky or uneven eye makeup, washed-out or hyper-brightened cheeks and lips). But I've never seen a staff member there looking like that, even if most of them aren't make-up artists. If you want the help of professional makeup artists, visit the MAC store instead. I have seen some employees with more makeup on or makeup done up in a more artistic or funky way than I might ever emulate, which I think is great. I don't want to shop at a place where the staff are totally uninventive about makeup and only follow those sleeper, status quo traditional makeup "rules." I love that on the Sephora.com site, they separate fragrances into categories. Apparently, most of the scents I enjoy fall into the "floral orientals" category, so I'll be more likely to like the rest of the scents in that category than in others. This saves so much time that would otherwise be spent traversing the perfume wall, sniffing so many different fragrances that I can no longer tell them apart. My latest find is the small but totally decent selection they offer of organic and/or natural-oriented skin care products, located at the back of the right half of the store. The collection includes Ren, Juice Beauty, Stella McCartney (organic, who new?), and Ole Henrikson. The staff is just as knowledgeable about these products are others and pointed me to some really great items. read more

Sigh. Sephora...it seems I can't go in this place without purchasing something. Good news is they have a rewards program (not a credit card! more good news!) that gets you a point for every dollar you spend. 100 points gets you a small sample, save until 500 points and get a deluxe sample! I've never saved my points to get to 500 and to be honest, I don't think I want to know when I've spent $500 at Sephora...meh. Anyway, this Sephora is different than other Sephoras because the people here are *gasp* actually helpful! I can stand and stare at just the Sephora brand area for about 15 minutes contemplating what I want (because, if you're like me, you never actually go here for something you NEED but rather something you want). Do I need that lipstick in hot pink AND red? Yes, actually. Well...no, but you know how it goes...and the sales associates here actually help me figure out which shades work with my hair/skin/eye color and if you're as picky as me you definitely appreciate that kind of help. Oh, and they don't get commission...and coming from someone that has worked retail and did not get commission, I definitely respect and appreciate the help I get here. I actually went in here once asking for a lightweight mascara, and the associate walked me around the store to show me the different ones I could purchase. Definitely appreciate that kind of customer service when I'm a cash-strapped student. BTW definitely check out the HUGE Sephora brand section and the [much smaller] sale/discounted section, and ask for samples at the cash register. read more

Girls' heaven. I think every time I go, I spend at least a half hour in the store, trying on makeup and smelling perfume. I've only bought one or two things, but it is really fun to go test out their makeup. They have little stations where you can get q-tips and clean mascara brushes and makeup remover. They have tons of brands of makeups, which is cool because I like to try out new stuff. The sales staff there isn't pushy and they don't breathe over your shoulder as you try out makeup, so its a no-pressure environment for those who aren't sure if they want to buy something, or for those who aren't sure how to put the makeup on. read more

Situated in the lovely prudential mall across the food-court, this place is so bright , some girls actually believe they have stepped into heaven upon entry. It 's one of the bigger stores and it has a great selection of high end cosmestics, skincare, makeup tools and perfumes. They have BENEFIT yeah! Sometimes you can get a free make-up consultation. I love Sephora. Make-up, perfume, and face/body wash all in one stop. Big plus for being able to play with the makeup on your own time and test things out w/o being crazy hounded by the staff. I generally buy more than I originally went in there for each trip I make, so if you're on a budget, have a friend by your side to restrict you to list items only.... and choose this friend wisely b/c if your friends are like mine, you'll end up spending double what you would have if you went solo b/c they love the girlie stuff just as much as you do! Maybe bring a cranky boy along, that should help make the trip quick and concise. :-) read more

Makeup, perfume, and smell-good-y things that I want to rub all over my face. Gadzooks! Things that are nice: Sephora carries Urban Decay, for when I want to smear black goo all over myself in the hope of giving myself "a smokey eye." Sephora also has the full Phyto line, which prevents my hair from becoming a mushroom-cloud-like eruption of frizz. Great product lines. Not terribly expensive, save the perfume. Also, customers are free to sample makeup and I've wasted my entire 45-minute lunch break trying every single product in the store. Things that are naughty: Sometimes, it frightens me to think of all the little eye germies that cling to those public-use mascara wands of doom. How many cases of pink eye are probably in that store at any given moment? How often can one employee sterilize every makeup applicator in that place? So I'm probably now a carrier of not only pink eye but also avian flu, necrotizing fasciitis, feline HIV, and vampirism. Other minuses: the customer service at this outpost is considerably spottier than elsewhere, including the one at Cambridgeside, in which I've actually been able to get a salesperson's attention. You have to seriously duke it out to speak with someone, so it's best to shop on your own; the service is nonexistent at best. The crowds are INSANE. I mean, yes, I know the Pru Shops function as a gigantic magnet for every bored, wealthy woman in the metro-Boston area but for God's sake, this place makes Beijing look like a post-apocalyptic nowhereland. In short, Sephora is a veritable Disneyworld for any self-respecting person with ovaries. And men, too, don't get me wrong, I think you have a wall and an end-cap or two. But seriously, this is an oasis for the ladehs. read more

Obviously, I could care less about the makeup products that Sephora sells. However, I just wanted to make note of the fact that it sells cologne, which I didn't discover until this year. In that sense, I hope Sephora does a better job of advertising these goods, because they have quite a grand selection of perfumes, and of course, colognes at at pretty decent prices. Sephora maintains an inventory of the popular colognes/perfumes, as well as some more unheard of ones that are just as good. My version of heaven. Sephora is great for girly-girls, girls that can't stand girly-girls, everyone in between, and the men that love them. With a wide array of any and everything that you could possibly put on and in your body, Sephora is the one stop access for your holy grail items or that one thing missing from your beauty regiment. Since it's so huge and can be so daunting that you just don't know where to start or what to get, you don't have to worry because they're incredibly generous with their samples. On a Saturday afternoon it becomes hard to navigate through the throngs of people that try to put on every imaginable cosmetic on their face so I would suggest going earlier in the day or in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. Oh Sephora, sigh, how I wish I could live in this store. I go to Sephora once every few months to stock up on my standard favorites and to check out the new iteams. My list of old stand bys are Sephora brand no snag elastics, Sephora brand creme shadows, Stila Creme Bouquet fragrance items, makeup brushes, NARS eyeshadow, Benefit body butters, and any of the small samples near the register. The staff is hit or miss: sometimes snooty, sometimes super helpful. Also, be careful or you'll blow your whole paycheck here. read more

Sephora is like a crackden for me. I love, love, LOVE things that feel good, look pretty and smell awesome. I don't wear a lot of make-up but am a fiend for Bare Essentials products. I could wander through this store for hours (until I'm broke) and have always had pleasant experiences with the staff. Every time I do come in, I leave looking somewhat like a cheap hooker from my typically over-liberal use of the testers (more on the testers in a moment), and the remaining dollar bills in my bank account are crying for the loss of MANY of their comrades. I'll admit - I am not a huge make-up person.. most the time you will find me in my natural state. However, when I do wear pretty things on my face, this is usually where they've come from. I really like DuWop Lip Venom & Lorac Lip Polishes! I've also gotten some really fun washes & sprays by Philosophy here - my favorite was a tea party perfume set! Most embarrassing thing I have bought here; Bliss fatgirlslim... "circulation stimulating, slimming cream with caffeine and QuSomes (a proprietary delivery enhancer that helps penetration) helps smooth the skin as it firms, trims, tones, and energizes." I think even if it didn't work they way it was supposed to it made me be more aware of my body and what I want to work on! I am into this place, even when I feel a little awkward walking in makeup less, way worth the girly vain trip! read more

The only make-up I wear on a regular basis is eyeliner, but I like having this store around nonetheless because it's a great place to pick up high quality gifts for female friends ranging from $20 and up (maybe there are cheaper options too but I don't like to skimp out). I like walking around and looking at all the different options available (there are so many!), although I am afraid to buy any for myself because it'd probably sit collecting dust on my desk at home. read more

I love Sephora. It's impossible for me to go into the Pru and not come out with sparkly green eyelids from playing in Sephora. If you're looking for cosmetics that are higher-end than drugstore brand, but not quite the Trish McEvoy level, Sephora is where you'll find them. They don't carry a lot of the department store brands (though they do have Benefit and Stilla which I've also seen at Filene's) but they do have the brands you'd otherwise never see. Tony & Tina, Hard Candy, Lola, etc. They have a large selection of bath and hair care products, which I usually pass up. Upon closer inspection, most of it turns out to be the Philosophy and L'Occitane lines, neither of which do anything for me. The store is much better laid out since they've expanded, it used to be really claustrophobic. But now there's more room, and more stuff! These aren't drugstore cosmetics, so be prepared to pay, but there's no huge Sephora mark-up, these are the same prices you'd pay elsewhere. They have a generous return policy, in the unlikely event of buyer's remorse. read more

There are endless options at Sephora, which is my problem. I don't really know how to put on makeup, I wear very little, and I find the store extremely overwhelming. You'd think that as I wandered around, clueless and with a perplexed expression on my barely made-up face, I'd get the attention of one of the 20 or so employees of this store. You would be wrong. I have been in here several times and not one person has ever approached me to help. I know I don't have five pounds of makeup caked on like most of the employees/customers, but come on! That should garner me more attention, because obviously I need more help than those people do. Every time I would approach a salesperson, they'd seem annoyed that I was interrupting what was undoubtedly a fascinating conversation with a co-worker about lip gloss or something, or tell me they were too busy to help at the moment. I would avoid this place altogether if I could, unfortunately some misguided soul gave me a substantial gift card to the place, and I still have a balance of about $40. Boo hoo. read more

Although I like the idea of Sephora in theory, most of my visits to the actual stores are very disappointing. This Sephora location in particular can be maddening. Not only is it hard to get any of the salespeople to help you, the store is always noisy and crowded. Even if I go in the middle of the middle of the week, the store seems filled with teens and tweens playing with the testers. On the positive side, Sephora does have a lenient return policy and is a good place to browse for cosmetics. However, I would rather shop from Sephora.com or go to another location (even the Cambridgeside Galleria store is less crowded) than deal with the makeup hell that is the Sephora at the Pru. read more

Excellent customer service. Bar did my 45-minute custom makeover and it was excellent. She gave me clear instructions for new techniques (i.e. brows), asked for my input at every step and listened to my feedback, started soft and built up the look based on my comfort level, and was just an all-around nice person. I would highly recommend this location and Bar as a makeup artist. read more
