Sephora just recently launched "Sephora University" that offers complimentary classes in makeup and skincare. They currently have four rotating classes every Sunday from 8:30-10:30 am: 1. How to Wear Color 2. Basic Skincare 3. Faux Lashes 4. Standout Eyes You can sign up to attend one or multiple classes but spaces are limited. They also offer complimentary bottled water, coffee, and pastries. I already attended last Sunday's class on "How to Wear Color." Since the classes are still new, there were only a total of seven people that attended including myself but I'm sure seats would fill up quickly once the word is out. There were five Sephora employees so we definitely had a lot of one-on-one help if needed. Before the class even began, I already received a small gift bag along with a folder that included look books, pamphlets, and makeup cheat sheets, etc. The beauty instructor demonstrated 2 different makeup looks on a Sephora employee in which the class would then practice on themselves. It was really fun experimenting with colors and learning makeup application techniques. After the class we were able to shop the store privately before the store actually opens at 11 am. This is honestly the worst Sephora in the country. And it's truly sad because people come from all over the world to visit MOA. Every time I come here I think maybe my last experience was because one of the associates are having a bad day. After visiting Friday, I know that's not the case. I've been here a total of six time in the past year and every experience has been miserable. No one ever greets me or anyone else I walk in with (that's fine, I'm willing to let that one go). However, each time I've come in with an intent to buy certain products I walk out without anything I was hoping to buy. On Friday I went in to buy new foundation and powder. I attempted to get the attention of two people to hopefully help with a color match and they kept walking. I figured ok, maybe they are busy. I'll keep looking and hopefully will be able to find something myself. When I finally found the color I needed, I realized it wasn't stocked. I needed someone to help look for more and I approached a group of associates who were sitting there gossiping, completely ignoring me. When I said excuse me they made it seem like I was ruining all their lives. After that I was done. After trying to get multiple people to help I was so turned off I ended up going downstairs to Macy's where I was approached instantly and in and out in less than 15 minutes. It's sad because I love Sephora and have been a loyal customer for years. I will be sure to stick to the Rosedale location or literally anywhere else. The time before this I went in looking for a red lipstick for a Christmas party. Same thing, took multiple try's to finally find someone willing to help because the three lipsticks I found, again, were not stocked. All three lipsticks from three DIFFERENT brands were out. And I went on a Wednesday. A slow day three weeks before Christmas?! Not like it was the day before Christmas! Each associate told me I could order it online and walked away. Yes, I could order it online but the point of a store is to have products for people to buy NOW. Like I said, I will be going out of my way to find a different Sephora location from now on. We happened into Sephora on a sale day and it was a madhouse. Like, lines to the back of the store, couldn't move without bumping into someone, products in disarray madhouse. We actually ended up abandoning ship after about five minutes because it was so crazy - there were definitely too many people in the store with no crowd control happening. We did come back at the end of the night about twenty minutes before close and it was much more manageable, though still busier than you'd expect. The store looks bigger than it is due to a mirrored wall. Product-wise it seems to have about the average amount of selection that you find in a typical Sephora, but there were more makeup stations than I've seen at other outlets. I ended up grabbing a maroon mascara that was on sale for $5 and several of the women I was with picked up some clay masks. The line still snaked back into the merchandise, but it moved fairly quickly. I didn't receive any samples with my purchase, but I don't know if that's because they ran out, or if the MOA location doesn't do samples due to high volume. A bit of a bummer either way. There was also no customer service - no one greeted us, asked if we needed help finding anything, or offered advice. Every other Sephora I've been to (including the little ones in JC Penney) have had helpful staff. If you're in MOA and need beauty products, you'll probably be able to get what you need here, but it's definitely a less pleasant experience than you may have at other Sephora locations. read more

Having worked an honestly delightful seasonal position at another Sephora, I now have a firm understanding of how certain aspects of this company work. My experience at this Sephora happened months before I had ever worked there, however, so only now (about a year later) am I able to return to this encounter and know with certainty that I was treated in a judgmental, bitter way that in fact flies directly in the face of Sephora company policy. It was the month before my mother's birthday, so I was taking my free day and making a day out of it, exploring MOA and hunting for some Mom-Worthy Gift Inspiration. She LOVES Sephora (and naturally, has since greatly benefited from the free gratis I've received while working there), and I was pretty certain I had remembered her coming home with Sephora samples before, so while I was there I decided -- samples. I had to get some samples for her to try, so I could find her a perfect, pre-approved-by-mom birthday gift. New skincare is always a risk, right? So what better way to give her a present than to have her fall in love with it beforehand? Anyway. As the single star above may heavily imply... that didn't end up happening. I entered the store. I was asked by an employee if she could help me (this being many months ago, the only things I can remember are that she had black hair and was older than 40, maybe 50). I say yes, hello, and tell her that I was wondering if I could get a few samples. She says no. I'm taken aback, since I was about 96.8% certain that they did in fact do samples. I ask if they don't do samples at all, then, or...? (Because, you know -- policy changes sometimes, and maybe what I thought were the facts were, in fact, outdated. You never know.) She tells me that samples are only for paying customers, and that I have to make a purchase to get them. She says all this with certainty and more than a little impatience -- she doesn't bother to talk quietly, either, to the point that the people around us can hear what's going on -- and although I let her know I understand and end up looking around the store for a few minutes afterward, my heart's not in it. She looks judgmental as I'm leaving the store, too (clearly sans bag of purchases), and all in all I'm left feeling embarrassed, shaken, and like some sort of unwanted, sample-poaching moocher. Obviously no one is entitled to free things. But here's the issue, as I've since learned from my actual, real, literal job at Sephora: company policy dictates that not only are customers encouraged to try take-home samples of products, no purchase necessary, but customers are allowed to take home three of these samples per visit. So I ask you -- what in the fresh, ungodly hell did I experience with this woman? I'm honestly still baffled. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews from here. The service has always been good for me and has been a lot better than before. I always looking forward and excited to come here every time I stop by at Sephora, this store is like home for me lol. Customer service has always been excellent, I like them a lot. Sales floor and Cashiers are terrific! One thing I would say ( on a different note) the store is small considering its a high traffic environment, limited stocks and displays for each brand. Saturday is a whole different level volume of people in here, avoid Saturday if you want to take time, have some space, relax on your shopping experience. I've been here a couple dozen times over the years, and I've often been disappointed with my experience. The staff are alright, but they don't always greet me when I enter the store. Maybe I'm the only person, but I expect a welcoming employee to greet me when I walk into an expensive makeup store. In regards to the products, they never seem to have my color in stock (foundation or concealer), and the testers are frequently empty or messy. Why do I give this store two stars instead of one? Because I have had at least one good experience at this store. On that visit, I had an employee help me locate the right product for my skin type. She was very attentive and helpful. It was CRAZY in this store... Granted it was during the holidays and it's the Mall of America.... BUT... I just needed to get one thing! I circled the store about 5 times, tried to get employees attention to ask them a question 5 times and it took FOREVER for anyone to even acknowledge me. Really, I get that you're busy, but I'm a person and I just have a simple request! If you have walked by me three times and seen that I have tried to get your attention where you made eye contact with me-- just tell me that you'll be right back. The employees were busy juggling customers but then would talk to each other (probably about work) and then rush to the back of the store. Eventually I ended up interrupting an employee with another customer just asking them to tell me where my item was. I got the brow pencil I needed but I'm glad that I don't live near here and this isn't my regular Sephora. The girl at the register was pleasant enough. I'm no makeup expert, but I can do a pretty good clown face. That being said, I would like to level-up on my skills so someday I know what I'm doing. Sephora is an upscale aggregator of makeup and skincare products. It's generally a good place to try brands like Urban Decay or Tarte. However the Mall of America's Sephora's is pretty shitty. For a MOA branch, it's comparably small. The staff spends most of their time talking to each other and actively avoiding you, unless you're purchasing something. Also, this particular store was poorly stocked; a lot of the products I wanted to buy were out of stock. If you're interested in going to Sephora, go to the Roseville one. It's not worth the parking hell to stop here. read more

Confession: I could basically declare Mall of America as my legal residence. Rachel E. 60 E Broadway Apt: Sephora Bloomington, MN Sephora is the glorious mecca of make up. I discovered the chain when I was 13 and have been dropping pretty pennies on cosmetics ever since. The MOA location is my favorite store in the Twin Cities though, because of their selection and service. Anyone who reviews a store in MOA and says it is busy should reconsider their priorities when selecting a mall. Is MOA a human zoo? Yep. Get used to it. That being said, I have always found the Sephora beauty consultants at MOA to be incredibly helpful. Most times when I'm greeted upon entry and asked if I need assistance, I reply "thanks but I'm just browsing," but every time I have required help, they have provided it with a smile and answered all my questions. I recently visited the store with my best friend at 9 PM on a Tuesday. Even though they close at 9:30, the staff helped us until 9:40 and provided wonderful recommendations and insight (shoutout to Kay Leigh! I am so happy with all the products she helped me pick). I used to think [one of] my goals was to visit all 50 states, now I'm beginning to think it might actually be visit a sephora in all 50 states. We went to visit the Mall of America, because if you are in Minneapolis, how can you not? And of course I needed to go to Sephora. I really did - I had run out of my Living Proof style extender. The lay out is your standard sephora, and a good size. They had all my living proof products, along with all my other favorites. Unfortunately, my fiance was done for the day, and not interested in spending hours in sephora, so we had to check out. I'm surprised to hear people saying this is a smaller store, since it's definitely the biggest one in the Twin Cities area, nearly twice the size of the Ridgedale and Rosedale stores. You will find bigger ones in Hollywood but around here this is as big as it gets. The MOA store definitely carries more lines than the other stores do and while I have found products out of stock quite a bit I have also found that at other stores, especially the most popular colors in each line. Someone needs to learn to order more neutrals. I've never had a problem with the workers at this store. They do hover a little more than those at other stores, obviously more so when it's not super busy, but they are better than the ones at other stores (example, the aforementioned Hollywood store) where I found them super pushy, like let me show you this, let me show you that, oh if you like that you have to get this, blah blah blah. The only thing I took a star off for was that it's at the MOA, and that's kind of a pain in the ass. But if I'm out there for a day looking at other things I'll almost always stop into Sephora to see what's new. read more

Back in July, I visited Mall of America on my way to Lake Superior and decided to stop in. I don't really have any comments about the actual store and products itself. I mean, it is bigger than the one I usually go to and had a bigger selection but I also prefer online shopping so the store itself doesn't make a big difference for me. The reason why I gave 5 stars is because of the lovely lady that helped me. She is an Asian lady named Chrissy or something along those lines... I lost the sheet of paper she gave me with her name on it... But I asked her about contouring. I don't want a dramatic contour or anything, just a subtle one and that is exactly what she taught me to do! She is very good at makeup! Typically I don't like how Sephora employees apply makeup. It is usually very thick, cakey, and not flattering. But Chrissy make it very thin, natural-looking, and she only enhanced my already existing features and not create a new face. If I could, I would love to have a makeover session with her and ask her how I should do eyes, lips, face, the whole thing! I loved her doing my make up! Also, she helped me choose out makeup for my skin. I ended up getting the Smashbox Contour Kit and a few brushes and things but she chose out a good contour kit for my skin. Someone at Sephora a while back offered me Benefit's Hoolah but it is too warm and orange for my skin. At first it looked alright but after using the Smashbox Contour Kit, I knew Hoolah was wrong for me. Thank you Chrissy! read more

Seriously, this is the WORST Sephora in the country. I walk into the one on Michigan in Chicago (and other cities) and they treat the customers like we should be treated. This one at the MOA has horrible sales people. They are not only inept, but rude. In Chicago, they walk you over to a product. This one, the sales staff are too busy talking to each other to help their customers. If your lucky, they point to where the product is. This goes for all Sephoras. I have never ever had an issue with one, which is saying a lot because (1) I have been to Sephora about a billion and 1 times and (2) I've been to some pretty sucky makeup stores *cough Ulta cough*. This time caused me to write a review. I received a 45 min makeover as part of VIB Rouge. Carmen helped me. She didn't start putting on makeup right away. First, she asked me what I wanted for a "look". Then she asked me about my skin and the products I currently use. She didn't want to overlap with what I was currently using because I was there to try new things! She came back with a ton of products after matching my Color IQ. She didn't just rely on the IQ. She grabbed a couple shades of each product just in case. Turns out the IQ was wrong, so I'm glad she put the effort in! After playing with some new products she focused on what I wanted - a wearable look for work with a hint of blue. She got it spot on and even taught me a thing or two! After the makeover there was no pressure to buy the makeup. I got a lot, but not everything and never once did she try to get me to buy something. We talked about kids. About moving. So personable. THE BEST SEPHORA LOCATION. The customer service here is impeccable! Although I'm in this store almost every weekend the service has always been consistent. The make up advisors and cashiers are super knowledgeable and they WILL HELP you find what you are looking for. The staff is very nice about giving you samples to try out a product! This is MY store, I - in my head - own it and provide all the products. I go here so much that I find myself helping women (not that the staff isn't helpful) but just if I hear someone asking a question or something I am there to answer (I know that's BAAD LOL). I love the staff, they aren't as helpful as the Sephora in Rosedale staff but in their defense, they are busier. Not every single staff knows about the products BUT they will seek out an associate who does and make sure you get what you came for in terms of knowledge or product. I like their return/exchange policies. Let's face it, no one likes returning cosmetics but having the option is great. Sometimes that lipstick that looked great in the store doesn't look so great at home and you just can't keep it. I love the VIB rewards program. Who doesn't like getting a sort of freebie. Every dollar you spend is a point and when you rack up enough points you can get small sized or rarely full sized items. When you really think about it, 100 points is $100 that you spent and you get a mini mascara for a 100pts is like spending a $100 on it but not really, more like a freebie. I love the variety of products AND the fact that you can really sample just about anything. That makes it so much nicer when you want to try out something before you have to buy it and then return it. The only thing I do not like about this store is the nail care line, I dislike their polish and feel like if they limited the selection they could add more men products (I am woman) or keep products they got rid of like STILA : ) I have never gotten my makeup done by them because I do not trust the sanitation of ANY makeup counter/store so I just can't bring myself to do it especially not knowing when they cleaned their brushes, etc. So I can't comment on that but I haven't heard bad things so that's good. As for the mall being busy. . . I have been working in MOA for 16 yrs and it's a MALL, the biggest in the US so to think that it wouldn't be busy is insanity but to help you crowd-displeasers out, if you want the less busy days go on a Monday or Tuesday (altho that's toddler Tuesday) but it's the slowest day of the mall. Go after 6 pm or before Noon and going on a Friday or Saturday means you are looking for crowds so deal with it. . . Overall this store could be improved in size (it's fairly small for such a large mall) but it's worth a visit for all your beauty needs. read more

I went and got my makeup done on Friday for prom. Talia was my artist and she did a great job! They were very professional, and did exactly what I asked. My one complaint would be that when I made the appointment it said we would be scheduled from 2:15-3, which fit perfectly in our day. However, we didn't leave the store until 3:45 and ended up being late for pictures. If they could have shortened it to a true 45 mins it would have been more convenient! I've never had a bad experience at any other Sephora. Until today I never had a bad experience at this one, either, until today. The manager (Cristy? Crissy?) didn't think my E gift certificates were legitimate, even after she scanned them and saw there was money available on them. She went back and forth between "I'm the store manager and I decide if I'm taking these" and "Okay, we'll take them". Then I would say okay, and she was back on her "I don't have to take these" kick. She wanted to photocopy one for her fraud investigation. When I tried to get it back from her, she kept moving her arm so the only way I could have gotten it would have been to come behind the counter or grab her arm, neither of which I was going to do. Look, I don't know what you're going to do with a copy of it. How do I know you aren't going to refuse to take it and then give the barcode to another customer or employee? If you don't trust me, why am I supposed to trust you when you so obviously are out to get me for some reason. She said she was going to get her security and have me thrown out of the store. She disappeared into a back room and came back about 5 minutes later, and as if nothing happened she was going to accept the certificates. I took them and left the store. I realize the MOA has some security and fraud issues, but once the bar code showed the 5 certificates were valid, that should have been the end of her problem. Never again. Sephora was one of the reasons I continued to go to MOA, now I'll go somewhere else. I'm selling my Sephora gift certificates and using the money for Amazon. read more

I was highly diappointed in this store last Saturday evening. I frequently shop at Sephora when I travel all over the US ,but this was my worst experience. No one greeted me- and there were an abundance of staff standing around talking to EACH other. I was in the store approx 30 minutes and had tried to find what I came in for: Shiseido Benefiance Creamy Cleansing Emulsion. It was not in stock. I had searched the shelves high and low in the area where the other products in the line were stocked. No one bothered to notice. On my way out a representavie did ask me if I needed help "finding anything." Usually in these scenarios I already know if it is not there and I looked, what more can come of this- but I did walk her over there back through the store in the back. What a waste of time. She looked through the products same as me, called someone on her "bluetooth" where they apparently told her the product had been "reformulated". She immediately said, "Would you like to try something else? That product has been reformulated. " I was shocked. I had just purchased the product 3 months ago and I really like this product. She kept telling me to try something else. She was really pushy. She asked about 4 times in different ways while I stood there absorbing the info, wishing I had bought more 3 months ago. "No, I don't want anything else. I want that product" I thought. I then told her that I was going over to Macy's, just around the corner. Guess what? Macy's had the product and the salesperson laughed and said that the company had no intention of reformulating the product that she knew of. In a word: Dishonesty prevails at this Sephora. If they don't have your product, which IS likely since it s a smaller store, don't believe them when they tell you the product has been discontinued or reformulated. They lie. They want you to buy what they have. read more

I love visiting Sephora. Every time I visit the mall, I find myself stopping by. I have never had a bad customer service experience there. My most recent visit, things were very busy (well, it IS the Mall of America), but staff still helped me with everything I needed. I frequent this location, so I know that they offer a lot of different services. They'll give a mini makeover/tutorial (they taught me how to do eyeliner, more recently they taught me how to do my eyebrows) which they accept walk-ins for when possible. They'll help you find the best products for you and are extremely knowledgeable, so if you're having trouble finding a foundation that doesn't make you break out or the right color of anything that complements your appearance, I've always found that they're able to help. If you have a product that you're running out of and they don't carry it, they'll help you find a similar product, and if they're out of something (which yes, sometimes happens, because again, it's MOA) you can always buy it online or they can help you find a similar product. Plus no one seems to mind people hanging out there trying things on - I do that all the time, and I always find things I like. Also, last time I was there I was seeking a new foundation and they were able to give me a sample to try so I could make sure it won't make me break out before purchasing it, which was super appreciated. They also carry a huge variety of brands, ranging from bold to natural and everything in between. The one caveat is that I am speaking as someone who is light skinned. Like most makeup stores I've been to, the foundations tend to be "several shades of light, then like 2 dark shades"... read more

I usually frequent the Rosedale Sephora often since it's usually well stocked and of course better service. Not saying that the MOA Sephora staff didn't gave me attention,the girl greeting the customers informed me about upcoming perks for Beauty Insider member which is nice to know. I looked at a few displays then I wanted to look at the Benefit display. Everyone keeps raving about the blushes from them and I wanted to actually try out on my face. A sales associate walks by and ask kinda half ass "uh my shift is about to end but I'll just grab you a brush". OMG, I expected for her to at least disinfect the brush! Of course I probably should have disinfect it myself from the sanitizing staions but I didn't think of it at the time.The brush was dirty and it grossed me out and placed it back on their artist makeup station they have in the middle of the store! Instead I bought the Benefit Coral My World that contains a sample size of the Coralista blush and Sun Beam along with my new set of make up brushes from Too Faced.
