LOVED the mocha latte here! We were in Savannah for a few days and came here every day to enjoy the delicious coffee. Really nice, spacious coffee shop just off of Forsyth Park. I went one Sunday morning and stayed for several hours, the place gets really busy and tables / seats fill up at peak hours. I had the egg and cheese croissant, and it was fantastic. The servings were surprisingly large and filling for a cafe, I was pleasantly surprised. They have several small tables, a few couches / chairs, and some areas for bar seating so there's a nice mix of spaces if you want to get work done. I'll definitely be back! read more

Driving north to Charleston and stopped into Savannah for some coffee and scenery. Changing up drip coffee like I had before, I ordered a cortado. Sadly, it was the weakest cortado I ever had. In a 10 oz. cup with only one shot espresso, it doesn't live up to what a cortado should be - equal parts espresso and milk to make a robust drink. While my wife enjoyed her rosemary latte, I think we'll be finding a new coffee spot the next time we visit. read more

We were dropped off right near Sentient as part of a trolley tour this morning. It was chilly out, and their apple cider really hit the spot as we explored Forsyth, right across the street. They offer all of your typical cafe drinks, and have a self-serve coffee bar with different creamers and spices to add in. They also have pastries and other breakfast items all day- so tempting, I wish we had more time! Prices are fair. The inside is a fun space, with bright colors, interesting art, and lots of little tables scattered throughout. The atmosphere is bustling but not too loud; I imagine it's a good place to meet friends or study at. Stop by Sentient for a little pick-me-up when you're visiting Forsyth Park! read more

I love stumbling into this coffee shop named desire. The boys at the front are terribly mean until they see that you have a Cowboy Bebop t shirt-then they treat you like Ein! I got a bagel and my usual Americano on a Wednesday morning and thanks to COVID, I was able to sit inside , by the window and enjoy a view of Forsyth Park. I love coming to this wide open space in the mornings and just grabbing a bagel and watching the diversified clientele and sometimes sitting outside is all it takes to have a happy day. read more

Watch out for the lady taking orders with the buzz cut and glasses. If she's working, good luck getting good service if you are not emo. She will be a flat out bitch the entire time you are ordering. If you are a people watcher, make sure to sit at a table where you can watch her attitude change based on each customer's appearance. It's quite entertaining.... Food is average, other staff is nice, but they steam the milk way too long for lates. It will not be cool enough to drink until 15 minutes after you finish eating. read more

I ordered the medium house drip coffee. I prefer my coffee black so I can really taste the flavors. I bought a gift card for 10 dollars because I forgot my wallet and had to use my phone to pay ( place requires a 5 dollar purchase for credit card purchases). I was shocked at how bitter the flavor of the coffee was. I prefer a medium that is on the dark end of the spectrum, but I was unable to drink this cup because it was literally awful. Since I had a ten dollar gift card and I hoped that maybe it was just a bad batch I returned the next day for a second cup. I was again disappointed I told the barista to keep the rest of the card for a tip and came to the realization that I probably needed to find another shop that has better coffee. The Sentient Bean was the second coffee shop I visited while exploring Savannah. Being a specialty coffee barista myself, I tend to have pretty high standards on my coffee. I ordered a single espresso and a vanilla latte to cap off my night. When I received the espresso, the barista sort of slung it to the pick up counter and uninterestingly carried on to the next drink. After receiving the latte, I sat and wanted to enjoy the 90's grunge vibe that was very apparent. The espresso was a bitter and flat tasting mess that left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Moving on to the vanilla latte, which had over stretched milk and was more in the line of a cappuccino. Ultimately I didn't finish the latte and left disappointed. 3/5 on the aesthetic. 2/5 on the coffee. read more

The breakfast and coffee at the Sentient Bean is palatable. I had a drip coffee, a chocolate croissant, and the breakfast burrito. The location is convenient and well placed; the cafe is right next to Forsyth Park. But the food is average and a bit overpriced (the burrito cost $6.80). The coffee was pretty good but the croissant wasn't flaky and the burrito was petite. If you're on your morning jog and looking for a place to drink coffee and chill, drop by the Sentient Bean... just don't order anything to eat. read more

The burrito was very dry and not flavorful. The vegan tacos were a joke. When I grabbed the box, I thought it was empty. It was 2 small tortillas and they had almost nothing in them. A great place to grab a drink or pastry if you're going for a stroll in Forsyth Park. They also have indoor and outdoor seating. I had the mocha, which was delicious, and some tasty pastries. They also offer beer and wine, and meals, but we already had breakfast plans. The staff was friendly. They are very committed to the community and sustainability. Much of the food and drinks are organic and/or included ingredients from local farms, and the coffee beans are shade-grown, fair-trade, and roasted by a local coffee shop. Normally there are a lot of fun events here--music, comedy, poetry, etc., as well as community fundraisers (these were put-on hold during covid). read more

This is a great spot to stop for coffee or a bite to eat just steps away from Forsyth Park. They have plenty of space to grab a seat with friends or post up and get some work done on their cozy couches. It does seem more hipster and less intimate than other local coffee shops, and they often feature live music. The main things I love about Sentient Bean are the iced coffees and the free wifi! I know it's so simple, but these are the two things I really need in a coffee shop. I often stop in here after running at the park, and their iced coffee is spot on! Their prices are reasonable, and the staff is always super friendly! I'll have to actually get around to trying some of their food eventually, but I would definitely recommend Sentient Bean as a neat place to grab a coffee and hang out. I swear, when we walked through the doors, it felt like we were transported from Georgia to Berkeley. Now, mind you, I grew up in the Bay and I visit Berkeley at least two dozen times a year. So, if I didn't have the vast knowledge of crunchiness that I do, I'd likely feel so much different about this place. However, I can't change where I am from and the experiences I've had. It almost felt like the entire crew decided to dress up for Halloween and the theme was crunchy hipster-hippies from Berkeley and alas, they didn't pull it off well enough. The two exceptions would be: 1) female armpit hair 2) body odor Those two areas were on point indeed! A bit too much. Kinda like they were trying too hard to hit the nail just right to hammer home the theme. Solid location directly across from Forsythe park (see my review for that gem) and the coffee was decent. Prices were not too bad, but a bit steep for the deep South, in my opinion. They host a wide array of events and on the afternoon/early evening we strolled up, it was belly dancing night. I saw the kinda bellies I'd prefer A) not to see at all and B) don't belong on the dance floor. read more

Our last meal in the city was spent here in this quirky, yet healthy alternative to Savannah's mainstream establishments. With plenty of choices for for us to pick from, we settled on the Vegan Breakfast Burrito, which was nourishing and hit the spot. They also had an assortment of sweet stuffs at the counter. We picked out a few things for our drive back to Atlanta. You order at the register and they bring your food to you're table. We noticed them setting up for live music when we were leaving. My colleagues and I met up with our Savannah advocate here throughout the week. There were plenty of options to keep us fed and caffeinated during our conversations. Plenty of other people were working on laptops at neighboring tables, and a few familiar faces sat outside on the patio for hours on end. Sentient Bean is definitely the Cheers of coffee houses. Our group ordered a plate of baked goods to split, and the barista was kind enough to slices up the cakes into bite sized squares for us. We had a scone, a peach cobbler bar, raspberry herb cake, and a brownie. Everything was delicious, but the cobbler was the favorite. Later, I had an eggplant quiche, which was tasty, but could have used a few mores spices. The Blueberry Banana smoothie was delicious, as is the caramel mocha. Sentient Bean is a hip, laid back atmosphere that's great for getting work done, having a business meeting, or gathering with friends. It was my coffee house away from home. What impressed me the most about this place was how much space was available to just be here. There were a good number of tables, but unlike just about any other coffee house that I'd visited before, there was just so much room here. It was lovely. However, it also added a very "in the open" feel for those who might have agoraphobia. They have coffee beans for purchase - nice. Because, what else do you want but to bring home some tasty beans for later home consumption? The menu is a bit haphazard looking on the wall to the left of the counter and pastries, but, it survives and serves up some nice choices. Really though, I thought the coolest part was the pastry case of baked goods was pretty much all vegan. True, it was filled with gluten-laden items, but who cares if you can have them dairy-free? Well, for the most part, people will be just fine with the vegan gluten-based items. Cake, muffins/ quick bread, cookies... yum! The food items are standard cafe-style fare, with delicious salads and sandwiches/ wraps/ potatoes. Breakfast/ brunch seems to be pretty sweet, too, but I didn't try any of them... but anything that says "breakfast burrito" makes me happy. Great food choices to compliment the delicious assortment of COFFEE... because really, it's all about the coffee (with almond milk, please...). Drink some there and get some beans to go. The Bean is a classic savannah spot. Perfect for a quick breakfast or lunch, tons of gluten free and vegan options too. They also have gluten free and vegan pastries. The iced mocha is my favorite. They have numerous milk options as well for dairy allergies. I had the gluten free breakfast bowl which was topped with avocado and a runny egg. Filling and nutritious! They now accept credit cards (used to be cash only) so that's a plus. Stop in during your visit to Forsyth Park and check out brighter day next door. I like the fact there is a coffeeshop located on the southside of Forsyth Park for sure, but have not been totally impressed with the Bean. The fact that they're in the business of serving mainly vegan foods limits their choices for lunch/snacks and a lot of the foods (salads, a bread and dip plate) I've tried here seem overpriced and not very good. Their coffee drinks are ok but not exceptional. Moreover, if a poetry reading or concert is going on, the coffee-bar stays open but won't make smoothies because the noise will distract from the entertainment . . . and the smoothies frankly are the best thing they have on offer here. That all said, some of the bands they get here are, for the small size of their venue, very good. The interior also seems pretty rag-tag, and not really in an endearing way either. I am all for the left-of-center approach they're taking, but it just seems less-than-inspired and like it could be much better than it really is here. read more

This place is awesome. Went here multiple times on a short trip to Savannah. They had great pastries, soups, and really cool purple sweet potato pancakes. I was thrilled with all the vegan options (vegan breakfast burrito, vegan soups, vegan butter, vegan pancakes, vegan cookies, etc!). Staff was very friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and I also loved all the bicycle parking. read more

My 7yo son tried his first ever BBQ tofu taco and loved it. I had a breakfast taco that was very good. We also got a few slices of cake (1 of which was GF) to go! I picked Sentient Bean only because it was open at 7 am on Saturday, and the other coffee shops opened at 8, 9, and even 10. Who heard of a coffee place opening at 10 am? Crazy. Anyway, it's a find. Great coffee, and cool space if you want to sit down. It's at the south end of Forsyth Park, literally across the street from the southern end. I got a coffee and walked in the park on a beautiful Saturday morning. One more thing. They don't take credit cards, or at least they didn't when I was there. I didn't have the $2 in cash, but they said I could come back and pay later in the day or the week. Now, that's a cool place. read more

It's funky and a tad grungy, but the food is good and affordable with lots of vegetarian/ vegan and some gluten free options. Would have given it 5 stars if it was a little bit cleaner.
