3 1/2 Stars: Dined here with my co-workers. Service was very slow from the moment wr walked in. Everyone seemed busy, but the restaurant wasn't even half full. Food: Miso Soup Fried Shrimp Tempura Tuna Special Roll The miso soup was served very hot, just how I like it. Very good flavor. The fried shrimp tempura was plated nicely, and it had Onion Rings, which was a plus. The Tuna Special had spicy tuna, shrimp tempura topped with fresh tuna, cucumber, crunchy , avocado, and eel sauce. This sushi roll was delcious. Overall, it's a great spot to dine. Just the service needs to get better. We had to wave down our server several times. Also, the wait for the sushi took long. Hope to stop by another time for dinner.

The image depicts a crumpled restaurant receipt held by a person's hand, with a background of a wall and electrical outlet. The receipt lists food items including Cielo, Mar Y Tierra Roll, Crunchy Roll, Guamuchilito Roll, and Tamarindo Aguas Frescas, with prices and quantities. It shows subtotal, sales tax, total amount, and payment details, including cash tendered and change. The receipt appears to be from a dining establishment offering fusion cuisine.

No good, service time. made me wait 30 plus mins Don't go here for a speedy service, get ready to hear bad bunny as you wait and they are oldys too, food flavor was okay nothing to brag about if you want original flavors go to Sam's, after waiting 30 mins I checked with the cashier to see if my food was ready cuz everyone that was there was seated and people kept on coming in, she looked clue less as to why I was approaching her with my receipt. Carrots taste like the ones that come prepackaged I'm sure the chile is also prepackaged Se pasan compren de Los Plato's q traen separador * establishment will give you a discount for taking cash

Sushi with carne asada - A rectangular white plate features a row of fried sushi rolls topped with sauce, arranged on shredded carrots. A pickled pepper is placed beside the rolls. The plate is on a wooden table, with a napkin and part of a laptop visible in the background. The sushi appears to contain various ingredients, with a crispy exterior and garnishes adding color and texture.

I absolutely love this place!! The day I went it was margarita national day, and they had an amazing special on all of their margaritas. Their food is always a 10/10 the ladies there are always so much fun and very helpful. It's a fun twist on sushi that you must try. If you love wings they are soooo good here get them extra crispy with extra sauce

This place is the place to get sushi if you don't necessarily like to eat raw fish. I enjoy the variety of choices to choose from; they have amazing tasty options. My friend and I went during happy hour (1pm to 6pm) and we enjoyed ourselves. The service was good, could have been a little better since we arrived when the place wanted super busy on a Wednesday. The place is overall nice with the closed booths with low lighting with large tables in the middle for larger parties. I recommend coming here maybe on a weekday rather a weekend because it can be super busy and loud. I can see myself coming back here for sure.

First time trying and definitely would eat here again. The Mango Shooter shots were delish and the guamuchilito roll was by far the tables favorite. We ordered it twice

Met a few friends here on Sunday afternoon and was unfortunately not super impressed. The menu is a good size, the selection of sushi is diverse and original, but the service and food quality are greatly lacking. We had to wait for a few minutes as there were five of us and we were seated right at the front of the restaurant. This unfortunately caused us to be at the mercy of the brutal sun that came through the door every time it opened. Every time we looked up or turned around we were blinded. I think having a barrier between the door and the restaurant would help a lot with this. The inside of the restaurant was actually super cool with tons of red and black accents and televisions. We ordered edamame and fried calamari as our appetizers. The fried calamari was a lot of breading and very little calamari. The calamari also came with onion rings, which were again more breading than anything else. The best parts of the fried calamari was actually the salad that was underneath it and the creamy mayo dip. We each ordered an individual roll and a order of shrimp fried rice to share. We decided to eat the rolls family style by passing them around--vegas roll, poison ivy roll, a couple of carne asada roll, and the minera roll. The rolls were definitely worth the $12 price as you got a good amount of food, but the quality just wasnt there. There was tons of breading, rice, and just lack of flavor and umph. The only spice came from the jalapeño cheese that was on the poison ivy roll. The fried rice was such a disappointment as well as it was burnt--literally burnt. Everything from the shrimp, to the corn, green onions, and the rice itself was burnt looking and tasting. We brought this to the attention of the waitress and she quickly took it away and off of our bill. Also, it took forever for us to get our food and it was not super busy. We were not really checked on during the process at all and then when we did get our food we were not checked on again. I think that if we were allowed to stay in the restaurant for the rest of the day we could have--we were virtually ignored. There are so many other better sushi spots in Phoenix, so I do not plan to return.

Do they sell potstickers?

I don't believe so. This is not a traditional sushi place it's a mexican/japanese fusion restaurant so they're a little unique. Very good though.

We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX.

But I know tables around us were starting to be fed up as well. Despite this, our waiter did cover 1 of the desserts which was nice. And overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the decor and the food. My favorite was honestly the wagyu nigiri and uni nigiri, but everything was delicious. I loved the scallops temaki, loved the mango roll (something different) and the toro sashimi. The burnt cheesecake with caviar was also a hit! My friend got the "oh my god" roll which was a fascinating presentation and she got her mochi ice cream which was also very light and refreshing. I would definitely come back despite the little hiccup!

They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!
