What started as a "straightforward" solar install turned into a colossal, multi-agency obstacle course, and the only reason this project crossed the finish line is because of Jon's leadership and Semper's depth as a company. First challenge: SDG&E. We ran into delays with little to no communication, and it took real effort just to get clarity on what the issue even was. Once we finally got answers, we learned the real problem: our neighborhood already had too much solar. SDG&E claimed the existing transformer and service drop couldn't handle the additional load and initially wanted us to pay to replace both. For most homeowners, that would be the end of the project. Jon and the Semper team didn't accept that outcome. They pushed, escalated, coordinated, and ultimately overcame an issue that would have stopped many other installers cold. This wasn't just technical work -- it was advocacy. Second challenge: the City permitting process. The building department held our permits because our home was incorrectly flagged as a historical property (it isn't). Again, another moment where this could have easily stalled or fallen apart. Please don't use this company. I Called and explained my issue with backup battery system including my specific model and make. I was told that they could fix this specific model. After paying a $300 solar health checkup I was informed they can't fix the equipment I own and suggested replacing my equipment. Please do not tell customers you can fix their equipment if you can't. Now several weeks later going back and forth with different customer service personnel I was told they will not refund my $300.00 Terrible way to run a company, just use someone else. read more

During my research for an upgrade of my existing solar panel system without batteries. I took serval estimates from three local companies here in Southern California. Two of the three companies spoke my language Zero Export which would allow me to retain my Net Energy Metering One (NEM 1) status with SDG&E. Jonathan Kibler with Semper Solaris came in and not only assisted me with remaining on NEM 1, additionally he informed me that Semper Solaris was offering a Thirty percent discount off installations this year. That's a BIG Plus during these economic uncertainties. That 30% allowed for reduction in not only my monthly payments but also the interest cost over the life of the loan in the tune of thousands of dollars. They installed solar on our neighbor's property and needed to break up some of our concrete driveway to get to the access point under our property. THERE IS STILLA GIANT HOLE IN OUR CONCRETE OVER THREE MONTHS LATER. They have not fixed it. It's extremely unsafe. read more

Highly recommended! Our system was running in less than 30 days from our first meeting! I called five companies for quotes and I was most impressed with Semper Solaris's initial contact team. They answered my call and followed through immediately. It only got better from there. Paul, our sales rep, came to our home and took the time to really understand what we wanted. He was able to thoroughly explain the system he recommended and show how it was the best fit for us. We received another quote, but it didn't feel like the right set up for our needs. Also, that company had a lot of negative reviews regarding delayed installations, etc. Paul's quote was about the same price, but seemed more fined tuned to using our existing system. The overall positive reviews for Semper Solaris helped make our decision to go with them. Paul helped us move through the steps between contracting and installation at lightning speed. We were motivated to get the system up quickly to take advantage of longer summer days and have the extra solar power for using AC. They came out quickly to do the initial inspection required to complete the project workorder, then gave me all the support documentation for HOA approval. After I returned the HOA approval, they handled city permits very efficiently. Throughout this time they sent emails updating me on each step of the process. Both teams who came to the house were courteous and focused on getting the job done to my satisfaction. They took the time to explain things to me and met our requests for how to place the equipment and run the conduits from the roof. I had solar installed by this company a number of years ago. They had the Sun Power panels I was looking for so I decided to use them not knowing about their work ethics. A bit over priced and when they were working on my tile roof they broke a number of tiles which is to be expected. I figured they would replace them but all they tried to do is glue them together and it looked like a mosaic tile feature. I called them on it and they came back and replaced them with my spare tile I had in the yard for my own repairs down the line not even asking if they could use they. I figured they would bring their own supplies not scavenge from my supply. Also I noticed they didn't seal the roof jack properly where the electrical conduit came through also. It's like I had to continuously check their work and instruct them on how to do it properly. The most recent complaint is I have a broken panel that needs replacing and I called and emailed them about trying to figure what model panels I had and to buy a new one. And they don't even respond and get back with me. Just be careful. I guess they only respond if you're spending thousands. read more

This company has very poor customer service! I had my solar installed by them but it stopped working so I called to get someone come and check to fix it but you can't even get a schedule from them. Every time you call it's answered by customer service and the only response you get is they'll contact the department so I can get a schedule and should wait for a call or email that will schedule me but it's been more than a week and there's no email ever sent to get a schedule. Mind you this is just getting a schedule for repair, you never get one even if you call and follow up. Their answer is always wait for an email to get a schedule which they never do and in the meantime I'm here waiting for nothing. It's terrible customer service! Don't do business with this solar company or you'll end up in frustration and headaches like me. read more

We recently moved into a new home and were referred to Semper Solaris by my father-in-law and brother-in-law who both had great experiences with them. Upon reaching out on a Friday, Mark quickly texted back, and made himself available within the next fifteen minutes to hop on the phone and talk about adding solar to the roof. After answering all of my questions, Mark further made himself available to come by the house the next day, despite it being a Saturday. On Saturday, Mark came by the house and sat with my wife and me for about an hour and explained all of our options and his recommendations, as well as the reasoning and the pros and considerations for each of them. Before leaving, Mark put together and sent me quotes for each of the options discussed and offered to reconnect to answer any questions that we might have. For both options, Mark recommended what made sense for our circumstances (for both today and looking at the horizon), instead of trying to sell more than we wanted or needed. Later that day, Mark sent a nice follow-up thank you text message and offered again to answer any questions. I had a few and asked if I could call him with them, and didn't even have to, as he quickly called me instead. During that call, Mark was able to answer all of my questions, and promised to quickly turn around updated quotes. Shortly after, updated versions of both quotes were in my inbox ready for our final review and signature. Unfortunately, this has been a very frustrating experience. Our solar system has not been producing since April, likely due to a panel or equipment malfunction. I first contacted the company about this on November 20 and have made multiple follow-up calls since then requesting service. Despite months of outreach, no representative or technician has come out to inspect or repair the system, and there has been no meaningful resolution. We are continuing to pay for a system that is not working. A year after my solar installation, I noticed some water leaks in my ceiling and reached out to Semper Solaris. They responded right away and sent someone to take care of it. Brian was amazing--he spent an entire day carefully inspecting every part of my roof, fixing everything, and even running a thorough water test to make sure no leaks remained. Overall I am very satisified with the project with one exception which I will point out at the end **. This was why I selected 4 stars instead of 5. The entire crew was very professional, on time and very efficient. They kept the area around the house clean along with removing all debris before they departed. The roof also looks great. I would like to point out several key folks for this project and highlight the great work of the entire crew. Mark Ivory the consultant for both my original solar install and this roofing project. He answered all my questions and assisted with changing the drip edge color which was a minor contract modification. Christian the project manager. He kept me up to date and helped to resolve a couple minor issues such as paint touch up. He also assisted with arranging the painting of the drip edge. He is a veteran and it was great to work with him as a veteran myself. He speaks Spanish which was helpful. An all around great person. Tony Q who removed the solar panels. He is an awesome "one man" crew. He was very efficient at removing the solar panels by himself. Impressive how hard this man works. Edgar who led a 2 person team re-installing the solar panels. Very professional and efficient. He also assisted with readjusting my security cameras as they probably got bumped during the installation of the new roof. **The one issue I have not resolved is an area where rain water comes off the roof and runs down the side of the house on the wall. My stucco is new and white in color. I am afraid this area will become stained once it starts raining. I did bring this up before, during and after the project was completed and an attempt was made to resolve. I performed a test with my garden hose and could still see water running on the wall (see pic). I was really hoping this would get resolved.** A couple minor notes that did NOT affect my score: Limited drip edge colors. This is more of an issue with suppliers than Semper Solaris. I ended up having mine painted at an additional cost. Glad I did because it looks much better when the drip edge matches the color scheme of the house. For years I have used a check to pay for work completed. You want to use Docusign which I have had problems with in the past. The installation looks good.
