We purchased our retail business 4-1/2 years ago from a previous owner who used Select Security for many years. For continuity, we kept their services for security monitoring and had a positive experience. When we relocated our business one year later, we used Select Security again to help us with purchasing new security equipment and getting our new retail space prepared to begin monitoring after move-in. Since moving in 3-1/2 years, we've experienced a few false burglar alarms which is to be expected as you fine tune your new equipment to your new surroundings. At my request, Select would provide a letter to the local Police Dept. to confirm that the equipment had been subsequently inspected and adjusted to help minimize the risk of a false alarm occurring again and to obtain a waiver from the local Police Dept for any fees associated. Most recently, two false burglar alarms occurred within 3 days -- a highly unusual occurrence. As in the case of the prior incidents, I contacted Select and they sent a technician out. However this time, without any prior notification, I was charged for this same service. When I disagreed with what they claim caused the alarms and disputed the charge based on the precedence of how their firm has handled this situation previously, I was actually told by Mr. Dave Spiess that I was a "lucky duck" for not having been charged previously and that the charges still stood. I'm not sure what has changed at Select Security internally, but I can tell you that they do not enforce their policies consistently (and do not like being called out on said inconsistencies) and do not value prompt-paying, long-time customers. I do not recommend them to anyone based on Mr. Spiess' argumentative and unprofessional way of handling a small client dispute. If he worked for me and I overheard him speaking with one of my long-time customers that way, I would have fired him on the spot. As a small business owner myself, I assure you that Mr. Spiess' ignorance and ego prevented him acknowledging their policy inconsistencies and settling the dispute constructively in order to salvage the relationship. He is now the largest liability of Select Security. read more
