First, I've been a SELCO customer for decades. I love the services they offer. However.... Accessing those services, like insurance brokering, is very, very difficult. You cannot access anyone on the phone. Forget it. I don't know why. You have to go to their main office and schedule an appointment. Everyone I know with SELCO says the same thing. So, if you're tempted to do business with SELCO, know you have to go to their main office just to schedule the appointment with the appropriate person. At times I get so frustrated I want to yank my account and take it elsewhere. read more

They cancelled my credit cards because I went through several due to fraud and theft. The ATM is always down. I work hours that the bank isn't open and always have multiple checks to deposit. The drive thru is slower than anywhere I've ever banked. Amongst several other problems I've had. You can't call and talk to anyone. I do not recommend banking with them. Going to be closing both my accounts over the next month or so. SELCO has been our credit union for 19 years! Not anymore....I have had good customer service and assistance with loans and banking until NOW! I attempted to secure a personal unsecured loan. I provided all of the information and then was informed they would not make a personal loan for the amount I needed. The loan officer said I could get a secured loan tied to the value of my vehicle. I provided the information and the loan officer called me back and said the vehicle was 10% below the value of the loan and therefore it was not approved by the underwriter! WHAT????? I would make the first payment before it was even due and the vehicle would then be at loan value. I paid off a large loan last year at SELCO in a matter of months. I have Excellent/Exemplary credit, own two vehicles with no liens and have my house paid off. I have 0 consumer debt and I had 1/2 the loan amount in the bank when I initiated the loan. I have an income that is more than double the loan amount and I would have paid off the loan very quickly. The only reason I can surmise they were reluctant to make a loan is that I would pay it back too quickly and they would NOT make enough money off of me! I have closed my share accounts, withdrawn my savings and will NEVER do business with SELCO in the future. As I told the president in my complaint letter (no reply) I don't need you, you need loyal customers like me to continue in business. Well we've been customers since 2016, out of the original Redmond, Oregon branch. Up until this year everything has gone smoothly, all of the sudden it just seems like all these flukes keep arising. We've been called by a fraudulent person stating they're from Selco fraud department, I figured it out pretty quick and hung up on them. It's just become crazy with all the glitches that have come up. My husband really wants to go elsewhere, but I love the personal service given to us by the branch manager, Tim Dizney. He has made staying worthwhile, as he always is quick to respond to us when there's an issue. read more

The worst credit union I have ever been a part of. The amount of charge they apply, on top of the holds on mobile deposits is ridiculous. For being a community credit union, it sure makes sure you're as broke as they can make you with fees every month! Customer service just smiles in your face as they explain all the charges and money they have taken from you. FIY opting out of courtesy pay does nothing, this bank still pushes transactions through days early to get their $25 dollar fee on every single charge. DO NOT BANK HERE unless you have hundreds of dollars to waste in fees every month. read more

I would recommend them, but be careful--if your account gets hacked, they will block and restrict it and tell you that they are looking into it, but they won't share any information with you about what they find. When I ask how long the investigation could take, all they say is that they don't have an estimated time frame, or they tell me that it takes six months when I visit a branch. In addition, everything associated with your account that needs to be done while the investigation is ongoing needs to be done in person at a branch. They also arranged it such that, while they investigate, I am unable to use my debit or credit cards. But other than this they have been a great bank and helped me get a secured card to help build my credit. read more

So this review is specifically about Nick Manley, their investment advisor. My mother had alzheimers, and had made a bunch of strange investments with a previous advisor. When I had to take over her affairs, Nick was very supportive of my situation. I am sure they make more commission when they are selling new products to new customers. But he was still willing to help me with numerous stacks of paperwork, getting monthly distributions set up, sending me paperwork to sign, etc. So they really seem to be in it for the long haul, and doing a good job for all of their customers. read more

I had no complaints with SELCO until I moved abroad. Can't update my phone number associated with my account to my international (and only) phone number, and my new debit card has been expired for a month now, no sign of a new one. I emailed them two months before it expired asking if it could be sent earlier due to the covid mail disruptions, and they told me they couldn't unless I paid for express shipping. Well, now I'm without a debit card and I'm so glad I have another credit union so that I can access my funds from abroad. Now they tell me they've sent another card, with the same regular shipping. Would have been nice to have been offered express shipping since they have dropped the ball and I am without a debit card. I know that mail has been disrupted a lot during the pandemic, but I'm unhappy with the customer service because it seems like they aren't even trying to accommodate my situation or requests. Tried to deposit a $6,000 check, they accepted it, posted it then decided they wanted to review it again and then rejected it because someone in their back office wanted more detail. Did they call... In September of this year, my son and I visited the Springfield location to refinance his vehicle solely under his name after a year of auto payments from his checking account (recurring). We refinanced said vehicle in August 2019. Now here is my outrage. 12-9-19 my son took an unsolicited call from "Eugene" OR of which he's neglected in the past due to robocalls. To his shock (followed by mine) COLLECTIONS was on the line. This is a young man that has excellent credit 750+ (or HAD at this point) but now his vehicle is out for re procession. My initial conversation was met with content and NO accountability. The ONLY resolution expressed by the representative was payment IN FULL for the vehicle. Standing firmly on that they "called" (No caller ID) and they set out letters. Selco in there RUSH to judgment and ruining my son's credit FAILED to do basic oversight and investigations. OR they would have found in the contract numerous administrative errors. Now - keep in mind, for the past YEAR Selko successfully debited my son's account without fail. He elected this feature for reliable payments and interest savings. I get it. SELKO does and did NOT. Administrative errors included: Incorrect address, (which covers why mail was not received) not the full account number AND designating the account as a SAVINGS account when it was CHECKING as from our previous contract. The bank failed at due diligence in verification prior to a critical action of submitting a MEMBER to collections who has faithfully made his AUTO payments on time. The representatives (2 of them) selfish defense implied that my son was a fault as well. He failed to check on this account. Unbelievable. This young man selected auto pay partly for that reason! Collections called my son today with a different tone - THEY FOUND THE Errors!!! They definitely want their money and want to stand that all is ok... NOT. My son's credit has a DIRECT hit of which nothing was offered to correct this injustice. When asked what lessons where learned from this atrocity they again exclaimed that my son was partially at fault and expressed NO accountability of the damage they committed to his credit. NONE! The representative expressed what she would do EVEN if she had auto deduction. She's NOT my son and has no knowledge of what has gone on in his personal life that prevented him from checking on his account status. Other than relying on that in the past (a year) the debt was successfully subtracted from his account. It's intolerable that a representative would invoke "incompetence" irresponsibility or lack of accountability on my son's part when he set up auto pay to prevent the very actions that Selko rushed to do!! One last thing - they leaned in hard on calling (no caller ID) and mail (incorrect address) and FAILED to use EMAIL or how bout this...TEXTING!! Welcome to the 21st century!! Educate yourselves on how most youths are communicating. In other words this organization FAILED to exhaust ALL means/modes available to contact THEIR MEMBER! I've attempted to reach managers/supervisors and senior branch manager - no response to date. Wonder how many other folks this has occurred to???? We demand a letter to credit agencies, credit monitoring and a formal letter of apology - ASAP. read more

We shopped half a dozen Eugene mortgage brokers and found them to be generally lazy and unhelpful. Some of the popular names are actually handled from the start by interns with very little customer service skill. Very poor. Others wanted us to complete massive, time wasting paperwork from the outset that was entirely unnecessary. Their tellers have always been friendly to me, but Selco is way behind the times with some of their technology. For example, their mobile check deposit feature has continued to be poorly implemented for years, and if you want to download electronic statements more than 12 months old, you have to pay $1 per page plus a $15 "research" fee with a one hour minimum charge. That might have made sense when data storage was expensive, but completely ridiculous this day and age. Another example of their technology being behind the times is the login for their website. The identity verification part of the login process has options to send a verification code to your phone or email (good), but then it also has the option to answer a security question. And the question is multiple choice!! That would be so trivially easy to make multiple login attempts and just try the different answers that it's practically useless. It would make a lot more sense if the security question was one the user had to answer themself rather than picking which fruit is their favorite. Also, for all the years I've been using it, it never actually remembers my computer despite always checking the "remember this device?" checkbox when logging in. read more

I have been with Selco since 2010. They have become a cluster !@#$. In 2014, I applied for a $3000 using a $15,000 truck as colateral. The guy screwed up (supposedly) and dumped my bank account and I had to open another one, (which I'm pretty sure he got credit and what ever elsefor opening a new account) and he had all kinds of issues with the loan but, he could give me an unsecured loan no problem ?!? Then, I travel for work and call ahead of time to tell them where I'm going so their fraud alert doesn't (supposedly) lock my account. Well, I got to Houston and called 2 days before I left. I had to go without food from 7pm till 10 am because they locked my card. Last year, I applied for a $12,000 HELOC to replace our furnace, having $275,000 equity in my home. Javier seemed to have a problem being in his office or at work, It took 6 weeks or longer during the cold time of year with no heat but small box heaters. When I went somewhere else they said it would be no problem to have the loan done the next day. They must have called Selco to verify my account history or what ever, because thru a miracle Javier had the loan done, after freezing for 6 weeks. Now, I'm trying to send money through an app designed and created by Citibank and a few others. Selco, locks it out because they say that they could possibly have fraud issues but Venmo is fine, which has had fraud issues ! This is getting completely stupid. Their fraud alert system seems to have an issue with almost every thing I do !!!!! But they request your account number over a cell phone where the info can be scanned. I think 10 years of B.S is enough !!! I think today at lunch I am going to go and empty my savings and checking and head on down the road to another financial institution. 10/5/20. I need some statements from 2018 and called today to see if I can get access to them. I was told it would cost me $48.95 to get access to them. It would supposedly take that much time to have someone type into a computer and email them to me. What do I pay a monthly service charge for and allow them to use my savings for ??? I was curious so, I called 2 other C.U's to see what the cost would be to do the same and ..... NOTHING, NO COST !!!! I have been more disappointed with this credit union than any banking institution I've used. They turned me down for a car loan. Even at their highest 14%. The next day, the dealership gave me a 72 month loan at 0%. I was also turned down for a credit card. A short while later I received a $6800 credit limit on a card from Goldman Sachs. I've had mobile deposits rejected for the flimsiest flaws in the photo their app took. I've had deposits from federal checks held for over a week and a half. For the longest time they've had a sign saying that they require a 720 credit score to open an account. I've been with them for almost 20 years. It's definitely time to leave. read more

Had a overdraft protection to my credit card and had no idea I overdraft $20. Despite depositing hundreds of dollars I had fines of not paying a few dollars on credit card of $25 a month. 11 months later I decided to open an email to find out. I don't use selco for anything but buying crypto. They claimed I got letters but received none. I was never alerted to my deliquency despite going into the bank to deposit cash multiple times and was never alerted. Lame. read more

Selco force placed insurance on our auto loan because the insurance information provided by our insurance company (twice) did not meet the Selco requirements. The premium for the force-placed insurance was over $17,000. They sent us notice but neglected to say how our insurance was deficient. It was very difficult to get them on the phone to figure out what was needed. It was very frustrating. No home-town feeling with these guys. read more

Ineptitude from day one. Every time my car insurance renews ( every 6 months) I get a notification in the mail threatening that they will add CPI insurance at my expense if I don't provide renewed proof of insurance ... which I do, immediately via the email they provide. They don't confirm they received your information by email. And don't follow up. You Risk your credit by doing business here. Totally disjointed services, no inter-communication between departments, which is a huge liability for the customer. read more

My only experience with SELCO: One of their financial advisors advised an elderly friend, five years from retirement, to move a good chunk of his IRA money from a safe fund to a high-risk high-reward mutual fund. I'm no expert, but even I know that this is terrible advice that close to retirement. Unfortunately for my friend, it did not end well and he lost lots of money. This is actually the second time I've heard of very unsagely advice from a SELCO financial advisor, and the other time was also with someone older, with very little investment knowledge, and also who couldn't afford to make mistakes like this. Either these advisors are completely incompetent or they had something to gain from taking advantage of people. Either way, I'll pass. read more

SELCO community credit union is more than willing to take advantage of its customers whenever they get the chance. They have been charging me overdraft fees for things that have literally never come out of my account. They charge me an OVERDRAFT fees for DECLINED transactions. It is called an overdraft fee because more money has been taken out of the account than is in the account. SELCO'S FEE is what caused my account to go negative, not the transaction!! Either push the transaction through and charge me a fee or decline it and don't charge me a fee. For me to not only be declined trying to pay for a service, but also be charged $25 ON TOP of not getting what I tried to pay for is absolutely heinous business ethics. read more

Every time they are quick to respond and fix the problem without any fees. Once upon a time I scored SELCO pens from the high school administration office for four years of my early post pubescent life. When I moved off to college I visited my local branch and asked if they would give me some pens for my collegiate years. They came out with a box of over 1,000 pens. I slang them thangs like tabs of E in the dorms and I still have a couple hundred under my bed whenever the need for click pen tugs at my heart. If you don't do your banking with a small credit union you support everything that sucks about our country including subprime lending, exotic loans, ponzi schemes, war mongering and Mitt Romney's hair. First of all, it's a credit union and not a bank, so it's already head and shoulders in the right direction. I have been doing my banking here for a number of years and I have never been charged any outlandish fee's or had strange things happen to my account. The staff is very effecient and helpful. I had been doing my banking at Oregon Credit Union before. They had become very impersonal and their focus was more on money. I began noticing more and more restrictions on my account along with odd penalties and fee's. I was finally so fed up that I dumped them and moved to Selco and have been happy ever sinse. So far I have had great customer service and although I am still in transition to making this my primary bank, I wanted to write a review to say how happy I am so far. I like the way the bank is laid out where you go to the front counter and tell them what you need help with. From there they direct you to the right person so you don't have to wait in one line to find out the same answer like other banks. The bank itself has a nice atmosphere. The parking lot is a little small but I usually always find a spot. They offer more flexibility when you bank with them and I believe less fees. I will be updating this review once I am fully established and have more experience. One thing I don't like is I can't call the branch directly I have to call the 1800 number and go through a whole menu thing but luckily I've gotten through pretty quickly. read more
