I opened my account(s) here in 1994 and have been a customer ever since. They are excellent - I don't know what the negative reviews are about! They have great customer service via telephone. I haven't lived in Eugene since 1998 - I do all of my banking online, through an associated credit union branch, or through an ATM (especially a member CU for no fee). I have used my debit card online, all over the country, and even internationally. I've never had a charge denied. Their interest-bearing checking account is a better deal than any of the big banks. They sure dont deserve any star. But since i have to give one. They suck. Worst credit union ever. There's been a couple times that I have been missing money. I will add up everything I bought and my bills that I've paid, and I should've had money left over. Today I didn't have anything pending. It was all active. I have 22 dollars left. I put 30 dollars in gas in my car. They charged me and overdraft fee right away. Then my 5 dollars that I spent at dollar tree, they added a overdraft fee for that too. Mind you, that transaction was active, not pending. They will automatically give you and overdraft fee, but can't automatically make it active. My pending payments will say a specific date when it supposed to become active and it will be well past that date. By about 3 or 4 days. I will never use them again. Finding somewhere else. I became a customer shortly after moving to Eugene for college; and now, nearly 15 years and over 500 miles later, I have absolutely NO interest in banking anywhere else. I'll tell you why: * The staff at this branch were friendly, helpful, and respectful, even to an 18-year-old opening a piddly little $500 account. They've been just as great every time I came in for deposits, withdrawals, new accounts, and managing an IRA. (Fortunately, my account has grown considerably since then.) * Good branch hours, and the drive-through opens 1.5 hours earlier than the lobby, which means you can hit it at 7:30am! * Internet banking is easy, intuitive, and fast. * Whenever I've had questions or concerns, the phone bankers have resolved them quickly and satisfactorily, and I've never waited on hold for more than a minute or so. But the real kicker occurred recently - while on vacation, somebody charged $850 worth of groceries against my account. OCCU froze my card and called me. The agent I talked to (Allie) was helpful and understanding - she connected me to the fraud department and OCCU is crediting my account while the issue is resolved. From the mundane to the messy, OCCU has treated me extremely well and I cannot imagine moving my money anywhere else. read more

Read how many reviews there are in the various branches, of people who's credit was either ruined or almost ruined by the OCCU system failing, AND failing to notify any people that it was failing. Charging thousands onto my loan for lack of insurance I had. This credit union is not accepting my insurance because I had not switched over car after trade in. My policy covers any car I own, I did not take possession of vehicle for 90 days as there were some mechanical issues being addressed by broker. Again I had insurance..... Do not use this credit union for your auto loan, you will regret it. read more

Not specific to this branch: I suggest DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY IN THIS BANK. THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR DEBIT CARD CHARGES. They do NOT ALLOW you to use your debit card outside of Oregon, and sometimes Eugene and NEVER on the Internet. They call you and put you on hold for over 10 minutes so they can call and ask you if you made a charge they declined! This bank is absolutely the worst. As soon as I move, I am changing banks. OCCU is horrible! I got a car loan through them, their rates were good and that is definitely the only good. It was always impossible to get anything taken care of. To pay off my car online I was told I would be charged some crazy fees. I tried to setup autopsy but their system was so awful I couldn't figure out how so they charged me $250 and still never helped me figure it out. Then after I paid off my car and tried to sell it two months later they still had a lien on it at the DMV. I asked to be emailed confirmation that the car was paid off and unbelievably horrible phone service and from Illinois? There is nothing "Oregon" about this company. I have a bank account I had to get to get the loan too. Random things happen like. Dollar removed here and there... no idea why. Their customer service is the worst at helping solve any of this. I've been a member since late 1970s. This used to be the best "banking" option in Eugene. It was called U-Lane-O back then, and you had to be a University of Oregon student or employee, or work for a public agency in Lane Couny, to join. In late 1990s, they decided to go "corporate"... became a more and more like a for-profit bank. Got a new executive corps onboard, threw open membership to essentially anyone with a heartbeat, and started down the GROWTH path... got to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Execs started unbridaled expansion throughout state with mergers and acquisitions (just like the banks they claim they are not). With this came a hugh loss in how members were treated... execs no longer gave a rat's ass about what we thought or wanted, and just ran forward with their growth agenda (think more money for the execs) irrespective of what the membership wanted. The "members" became mere customers. Bigger, bigger, bigger, and worse and worse service. The last auto loan I had with this credit union was a disaster... they screwed penalties out of me for no good reason other than their own incompetence, negligence, and/or defective payment processing system. And now, it's "dormant account" fees. In 35 years, I was never charged $7 per month for failing to make at least one transaction a year. Not even when I was living / working 3,000 miles from Eugene (not a single transaction in 5 years). All of a sudden, I've had this bogus fee imposed twice in 2 years. What's most galling is their attitude and explanation. They say this fee is necessary to comply with state law. Bullshit! I have accounts at 5 different banks in Oregon. Many of the accounts are long-term holders, and go year after year with no transactions. None of these banks has ever charged me a dormant account fee. When I challenged the fee, they said it was to cover "extra" costs associated with a no activity account. Extra costs? Show me the accounting. More bullshit. Lastly, they give me the snotty, "all you have to do is come in and make a transaction twice a year to avoid the fee". Listen-up OCCU... your non-bank may be the most important thing in your lives, but I have much more important things to do / keep track of than remembering to make an occassional unnecessary transaction just to keep you happy. Personally, I think the execs have implemented the notorious "fee-based income" model made infamous by the Grundhofers at US Bank. An easy way to increase earnings without adding services or costs. So, time to say bye, bye. If I wanted to be treated like an ignorant fool and screwed out of my money, I would have opened accounts with US Bank or CitiBank. I'll be closing my accounts and taking my money to one of the many "local" banks that are available... they've already demonstrated that they appreciate my business. R.I.P. U-Lane-O. You were an awesome credit union for many years. But you were infiltrated by greedy "bankers" who merely give lip service the concept of member ownership. I love this bank. The most important thing is that the people who work there are always incredibly friendly and helpful. I've been a member for the past 4 years and have never had a single problem at all. They have a ton of convenient locations, ATMs all over the city (the one near me even doles out $5 bills, a huge plus), and great interest rates and other benefits of membership. I don't understand why anyone would want to have an account with a commercial bank when Oregon Community Credit Union is right here. read more

I have been banking with OCCU since my parents opened a savings account for me back when it was U Lane O. Even though there are no longer any branches open in Portland, I've kept my money at OCCU because they have the highest interest rate for money market accounts that I've been able to find. Also, they're in the credit union network, meaning I can deposit checks into my OCCU accounts at any credit union. Super cool and easy! I lived in the duplex in the OCCU E. 11th location's parking lot for about six months in college. It was so convenient for my three roommates and I who all had OCCU accounts. We easily coordinated paying rent with one check at OCCU on the other side of the parking lot. We only had one parking spot (in our garage), so thanks E. 11th OCCU, for never towing my roommates' cars. The only time I had an issue was when I was paying off my car loan. I had set up an automatic payment, but there were a few dollars (literally, like less than $20 or $30) that needed to be paid off but that did not come off with my automatic payments. I received a late fee, so I went in to this branch to see what could be done. The teller explained that because my automatic payment was greater than the balance, it wouldn't go through (very frustrating). He also told me that he could not remove the late fee. But one incident in nearly twenty years of patronage has not deterred me from declaring my love for OCCU. Also, a company I worked for has a storage room in the bottom floor of the OCCU building. A couple of times when I was taking boxes over there, I had to ask an OCCU teller if I could borrow the hand truck. They were always obliging (and trusting). Please, OCCU, come back to Portland! I have been highly satisfied with OCCU. Their service is almost always top notch. I am taking off one star because you can't call directly to the branches--you have to contact the call center somewhere else and sometimes I really need to speak directly to the branch. However, go into the branch and you get great service. read more

I was a customer with OCCU for nearly 10 years when I decided to change banks based on what I see as the decline of OCCU. OCCU use to be a great credit union with knowledgeable and extremely nice staff. This was especially true before the change in name (from U Lane O Credit Union to Oregon Community Credit Union). The time of this name change and change in the upper management's ideas on how to run this credit union seem to be the beginning of the downfall. The first issue I noticed with OCCU was the transfer of the OCCU branded credit cards to Juniper bank. The Juniper bank was never helpful with questions about account fees and interest rates and OCCU was never helpful in contacting Juniper. The final straw with my OCCU branded, Juniper bank managed credit card was the excessive delay in processing my payments. Every month I would pay the card off in full and the payment (transferred from my OCCU account) would normally post on my credit card in 1-2 business days. Then account became slower and slower to post each month. The funds were removed from my account immediately buy would be held in 'processing' for up to 5 business days (payments under $500). Finally after waiting two weeks for a payment to post I called Juniper bank and was informed that it was out of their control as their was a 'federal hold' on my transaction. I spoke to OCCU about the issue and they informed me their would be no federal hold on my credit card payments as long as it was below $10,000 (not even close). The second time this occurred (two months later) they informed that it wasn't a federal hold but held by their bank due to unusual amount sizes. I had been paying roughly the same amount for the last several months and asked to speak to the supervisor, the supervisor then informed it was a federal hold (contradictory to what the previous person told me). I canceled my card immediately. The customer service with OCCU has also been on the decline. I was informed rather rudely that I would be charged a fee for cashing part of a check with only a savings account open. I informed the clerk that I had not been charged for doing this at any time in the past 6 months and asked if the fee was no. She told me it was not and that the previous had 'screwed up' their jobs. After arguing about the fee she said she would not charge me this time since I had not ever paid it before. This is an indication of the general attitude I had received from OCCU. The final straw was waiting 45 minuets to speak to an account manager about opening a checking account despite 4 managers being 'available' according to the teller, 2 chatting about their weekend and only one talking to a customer. I instead closed my accounts and switched banks. If OCCU were to bring back their customer service to anywhere near the level it was in the past I would consider switching back. Otherwise I highly recommend avoiding this credit union. read more

Plenty of convenient locations (if you count the ridiculous driveway @ 29th & Willamette), however, their auto bill pay is an absolute nightmare. Considering changing banks, especially after 2 security breaches in the last 8 years. It's too bad, as I've been with OCCU since early 2000's. read more

I had a vehicle loan with these people and when I bought a new truck they gave the dealership a payoff amount. that amount was payed to OCCU and now they took out another 575 out of my bank acct. with out notifying me. they say there was an outstanding balance after the payoff. beware this is a crooked bunch read more

I have banked with OCCU for about 3 years and will be moving my funds elsewhere this year. While they have not been that bad, they certainly have a lot of room for improvement. There are 3 branches that I deal with and it is very unusual if I don't have to wait several minutes in line before reaching a teller. The clientele consists of a lot of slow individuals that rarely go prepared and seem more interested in gossip than in banking. The tellers seem content to allow this behavior. I've never witnessed a teller asking a client to move elsewhere until they completed their checks, paperwork, deposits, etc. (even though I mention this at every incident). Keybank does a much better job of moving people through the lines. read more

Very shady outfit, use at your own risk! In 50 years of banking i have never received "extra" payment coupons. If one did not pay attention to the car loan's balance and you just paid by the payment vouchers they send you you could over pay the loan bay $800.00+. Every other loan, car or other wise, sends you the exact amount of payment coupons, not 6 extra months worth. I paid it off early, then closed the requires savings account. they took out $1.00 for a "Single Account Service Fee". that is pure BS. The statements are not clear about principle and interest and they calculate interest by voodoo accounting - the numbers don't add up. The place is run by crooks, stay away! read more

Had a car loan for 60 months with OCCU. Never a late payment. I misread the last payment payoff on the statement. My check was 84 cents short. They charged me a late payment charge because of it. Now that is a CU to be proud of. read more

OCCU did have good customer service. Last year in January I opened an account (which requires a credit check, no problem excellent credit) and went back a month later without my account number and they searched and searched and said that no account was found. Now, I knew this was wrong because I had the paper work back home. I shrugged it off and utilized another service. Thinking they would straighten it out by the next time I needed their service. I went back a second time without the paperwork hoping things would be fixed, but no success. I was dealing with the West 11th branch. This was my second account opened with them and I had been a customer since 2000. You'd think 10 years would familiarize a customer, but I guess they have too many customers. If they weren't able to find an account that I opened and had documents for then what else are they going to mess up on? You have to have good credit to be a member, but what do they have to have for you to be their customer? read more
