We hired Selah Roofing to repair a portion of our roof. They were very responsive and worked with my schedule to arrange an estimate. The estimate seemed reasonable when compared to the other estimates I received. Selah was very communicative and quickly scheduled a date to perform the repairs. Even when the crew was sick, they immediately called to let me know that they would need to reschedule and worked with me to schedule a new date which was for the following week. The crew showed up on time, they were friendly and they did a great job repairing the roof. We are very happy with the repairs especially since it rained two nights later. However, the estimated price increased 40% after they completed the job. I was warned that the initial quote/estimate was for some materials but if more was needed then it would increase the final price. I was prepared for a 10%-20% increase but it was 40%. That was way more than we budgeted but Selah said it was the cost of the materials. Although the crew did mention they bought additional materials and showed me the materials, no one mentioned how much it costs or added to the price nor did it look like it should've cost that much. Selah does put in it's contract that it charges $12/ft for additional materials. It didn't look like that much when it was shown to me (it was just a visual) so I couldn't estimate the cost to prepare myself. Selah wouldn't consider adjusting the price so I ended up paying A LOT more than we could afford. However, they are reliable and did great work. So, I'm trying to convince myself that it was worth it. I'm just having a hard time accepting the final cost. read more

Roofing is construction, so by definition there will be surprises. And we had a few surprises. Mostly it was no one's fault, just the residue of opening up the roof and decking and finding what's happened over the last 25 years. So there were change orders, but at a completely reasonable cost and at little delay in completing the job. We like these guys, we liked everyone involved. We would hire them again in a second. My home needs a new roof. Talking with Selah on the phone, I'm excited to have them come over to provide us with an estimate. A few days later, a Selah representative knocks on our door. My dad answers as I'm in a meeting (working from home). The representative asks for me. My dad lets him know I'm working, but the ladder is ready for the representative to take a look at our roof. (My dad is so accommodating.) The representative tells him that it "won't work" as my dad's not the one that will be making the final decision. (Why would the representative assume that?) My dad tells him again that I'm working, but the representative is welcome to take a look at the roof. The representative once again states that it "won't work" and leaves. Without bringing race/ethnicity into this, is this how Selah gains customers? Well, that tactic isn't going to work with us. Potential business lost. "Cheats with fluent Lies".. I had a bad experience with Calvin from Selah Roofing. In November 2020, I contacted calvin of Selah Roofing for my home roof inspection. Inspection cost was $120, however he charged me $150. When I asked him why he charged more, he responded that he will refund me back $30 if I write a positive review about him and his company. I wrote a review as per his request and asked for the refund. He stated giving excuses and at one point stopped responding to my msgs and to my calls. Though the money is not big for me, I felt cheated. His service regarding my roof inspection was below par and his estimates are very high compared to others. Very rarely do I leave 1 star ratings, this is one of the few times I feel it is warranted. I inquired about a roof inspection and they stated they had the time I requested available. They initially even told me they were having a 20% off sale. I told them I would like to go ahead and schedule the inspection. They then responded stating they could not honor the 20% off sale due to the distance of the house (San Fernando Valley). I inform them that it wouldn't be a problem and I would still like the inspection to occur. They asked me to message them on yelp as well so that I could be added to the schedule for confirmation. After our phone conversation, I went ahead and placed the yelp message as per their request. They responded saying they confirmed the time. The day of the appointment, my sister waited 4hrs for them to arrive on site as they provided a window for 1-3pm. I finally call at 3:45pm and they inform me that I was never on the schedule. They then looked at their yelp messages and stated they do see my messages, but the appointment was never placed. This was for a roof inspection for a potential home purchase. My sister was left waiting on site for them for 4 hours after leaving work early only to find out they were not coming. It made it all the more difficult because we had to schedule the inspection based on the owner's availability. If they can't be trusted to honor their appointments, I cant' imagine trusting them to work on something as important as a house. Would not recommend. read more
