Sharing my deeply disappointing experience with Seka Moving during my recent move on Saturday, June 28. I had high hopes after speaking multiple times with a move consultant to confirm my inventory and coordinate a smooth and early start. Instead, I was met with unacceptable delays, unprofessional behavior, a damaged item and a complete lack of accountability.
1. Unacceptable Delays and Lack of Communication
Despite receiving a confirmation call on 6/27 to verify an early start time, the moving truck arrived over two hours late. What made this worse was the complete absence of proactive communication from Seka. No one from the company called me the morning of the move to alert me of the delay. I had to call repeatedly for updates and received vague, inconsistent information. Because of this delay, I missed three-quarters of my two-hour elevator reservation. In attempt to recoup time, I had to disassemble my own bed frame, a service clearly listed as included in my contract.
2. Aggressive and Inappropriate Behavior from Lead Mover
Once the movers finally arrived, without a word of apology for their tardiness, the lead mover conducted a walkthrough of my inventory, then immediately spent over 15 minutes berating me to pay him a 20% tip upfront. This demand directly contradicted Seka's own policies stating that "we only employ the most skillful and experienced professionals in the industry" and "our movers are well compensated for their work". Worse, he threatened to leave without moving any of my belongings if I didn't comply to his demand. I found this behavior to be unprofessional, coercive, and frankly, harassing. It set the tone for a stressful, uncomfortable experience.
3. Poor Handling of Belongings and Lack of Basic Care
Given how I was treated, I quickly lost confidence in how my items would be handled and unfortunately, I was right to be concerned. The movers began loading the truck without wrapping any of my furniture, another included service in the contract. I had to stop them and insist they properly wrap my items to avoid damage. I even ended up moving several fragile pieces like lamps to my car, to ensure they wouldn't break due to the movers' negligence.
4. Damaged TV and Inadequate Resolution
Upon arrival at my destination, while the mover was unwrapping my TV (valued at $499), the lead mover acknowledged that he had damaged it by applying pressure too much directly to the screen while wrapping it earlier. He took photos and assured me someone from Seka would contact me to discuss replacing it. No one did. My move took place on Saturday, I waited until Monday to hear from them, then filed a formal claim and submitted full documentation of my experience: the tardiness, the intimidation over tipping, and the damaged item. Seka's response ignored the misconduct and delays entirely. As for the TV, they offered me $5 under their basic coverage, and later $75 as a so-called courtesy, far from adequate given the clear admission of fault and the item's value.
Adding insult to injury, they wanted me to sign away my right to share my experience in order to receive the minimal settlement. I refused.
I expected professionalism, reliability, and accountability from a moving company, none of which Seka delivered. I will NOT be using their services again, and I strongly caution others to avoid trusting them with your belongings or your time.
