Went for the seafood and wasn't disappointed. The gumbo was really, really good and I'd go back for another bowl once a week if I lived in Houston. We shared a bread pudding and it was a fight for the last bite. Real french bread as the base - not bisquik! Our only complaint was the lack of attention by the wait staff. Two staff and only 6 tables that night, but we had to catch their attention just to get a refill on water. This is considered a $$$ restaurant and the bill certainly exceeded expectations. I really like this place, the decore is simple, the atmosphere is nice, overall very quaint. Went out with my family a couple weeks ago for dinner here and we all loved the experience. I rarely eat or crave seafood when I'm out but I must say the crab was excellent. The waitstaff is also very attentive and friendly. Whoever suggested going to Saltgrass obviously can't appreciate a simple and unique dining experience. read more

I have been here twice and both times it was very good. The gumbo is excellent (and they do not skimp on the shrimp) and the crab cakes are also excellent. Note - the restaurant is small so large groups may not do well here. Also, it gets very busy at lunch time. Btw - the place is not difficult to find. It is on a major street and has a sign outside. I found it easily when I first moved here. Edited Nov 2013: went back recently and the gumbo is still fantastic. But the crab cakes were heavy with oil. read more

Little cozy place. One can't figure it out from the outside. Had an amazing delicious sauté shrimp and crabmeat. My boyfriend had the shrimp wrapped bacon and he loved. Music was great and combined with the ambiance and the food! Amazing place for a dating night or just to relax and recover. Food is well served, we didn't have room for dessert. I have eaten here a number of times but never taken the time to write a review. On Friday evening, I took my daughter and her boyfriend here for dinner. Our reservation was for 7:00 P.M. We arrived at 6:45 and were promptly seated. They each ordered gumbo and loved it. I had a green salad and added shrimp. I was delicious. I ordered the thick sliced bacon with blue cheese and honey. All three of us really enjoyed it. My daughter ordered the filet with rosemary potatoes. She loved it. Herr boyfriend ordered the ribeye with rosemary potatoes. He really enjoyed it. I also ordered the ribeye with onion rings and an order of bacon wrapped shrimp with fries for the table. My ribeye was perfect and the three of us enjoyed the bacon wrapped shrimp and fries. If you have never eaten her you have to try it. It is a small, cozy place with great food and excellent service. I promise you will return for more! read more

I visited Segaris yesterday and was impressed. It was quaint and looked to need reservations during peak times. I had the garden salad with avocado which I loved bc they cut the lettuce into pieces you don't have to shove in your mouth. For my entree, I chose the sauteed shrimp and crab over fresh veggies and it was delicious. The shrimp and crab were both fresh and good size. I would go back here! read more

This place is very small and easy to miss unless you are looking for it. They do not need to advertise. Once you have tried this place you are definitely going back. The outside is lacking curb appeal but the inside is very "local artist" posh. The menu is to die for and there is a full bar. And lastly there is one thing you must remember, make a reservation! read more

I came for the promise of great Gumbo, and it wS definitely worth the visit. However,they took forever to serve me, and I was famished. About a 25 minute wait. I also had a tiny bowl of grilled veggies, and topped them off with a Blue Cheese vinaigrette, which does not come with it, but I'd asked for. Uber Delish! read more

Easily my favorite restaurant in Houston. In response to several of the reviews here - when considering the quality of the food, drinks, and service, I have never once thought it to be over priced. Thank you to Angela and her staff for always making Segari's a delicious and memorable experience. My friends and family dined here this week to celebrate the end of my radiation treatment! They welcomed all of our glowing paraphernalia and treated us like royalty! As always, the food and service were amazing! Sam could pull off a soup nazi routine and make it charming. Manager (not Sam's daughter) was hired and yelled at me and my wife when I wanted to move my chair around and sit by her. Then would not allow us to change tables. I gave my $100 gift certificate to another patron and said ADIOS MF! Never again. read more

GREAT PLACE.... to relax and enjoy great food and a relaxing atmosphere by yourself of with friends. I go here often and love the place and the people. The people are great....which includes the customers. We have been there on many occasions and always....always end up talking and meeting new people. Angela is the best....hands down!! She takes care of her customers and has never let us down on any drink we have requested. As one of the other reviews said....a dinner jacket is not a requirement. I usually have jeans and a polo on and have gone as far as shorts and a t-shirt.....like I said...a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant is small....7-8 stools at the bar.....maybe 10 tables or so.....and is a great place to bring 6 or 8 friends for a nice dinner party. I have to admit, I don't normally care about what I spend if I enjoy the place, the company, the help and the food...which is definitely the case here. On average dinner, appetizer and a few drinks (4 apiece), we run about $150 or so. I think everyone should give it a try...it may not be for everyone...but I think most will love it. I usually get the same thing....sautéed crab claws and the Lamb and have never been let down. The crab cakes are top notch as well...you'll love the sauce. read more

I have always been intrigued by Segari's , drive by it often but never went in.. so when a friend decided to have her birthday dinner there , I was kind of excited. Its a quirky place that should be lauded for its individuality. The main thing here is Crab. I would recommend going here just to have the salad with crab, followed by the sauteed crab , and possibly a dessert of crab. The crab was tasty really tasty. . My fish entree was not anything exciting and kind of mushy- it was like it was defrosted while it cooked or something, I wasn't really sure. ( Should have had the crab) Aside from mushy red fish, I was disappointed by 2 things.. the salad dressing & whipped cream. Maybe I'm picky, but its such a small place and they kept saying everything is made in house etc.. well that salad dressing tasted and looked EXACTLY like Wish Bone Italian- complete with the little orange/red chunks & minced garlic-. OK , maybe it wasn't ..maybe it was a finely hand crafted in house replica of Wish Bone.. but I really don't think so .Because I saw the food service brand of canned whipped cream being put on the top of the " chocolate mousse- with 5 kinds of Chocolate" that tasted more like a French Silk Pie in a cup than chocolate mousse . I cringed.. for the prices charged and the small size and the uniqueness of the establishment I would have expected real whipped cream & a homemade salad dressing...hmm I just said " for the prices charged... ". but honestly I have no idea how much any of these items were individually because there are no prices on the menu.... read more

After not having been to Segaris in quite some time, my wife and I went last night and I was reminded why we love this place so much. Gumbo is the best I've ever had, Johnny's stuffed shrimp, lump crab, red fish, and lamb chops are a few of our favorites. Certainly nothing inexpensive about this place but it's worth every penny in my opinion. read more

My husband and I have wanted to stop in Segari's on Shepard for some time. Today we did. Very disappointing! We stopped in the parking lot and called to make sure it was open because it looked closed. It was 6:00 p.m. Tuesday 9/11. A woman answered and most rudely told me they were open. As we were the only guest in the house and having just come in from the rain, I asked if she would mind turning the fan above us off. She made no comment and walked away. She had yet to speak to us. I surmised that pointing in her mind was sufficient greeting. I asked again if she could turn the fan off, to which she replied in a disciplinary tone that she had turn it off and proceeded to tell me how the fans worked and that I should be patient. Ok, this lady must be having a bad afternoon. Water is offered and a menu presented. The menu has no price and no further explanation is offered. This not being our first time at a nice restaurant, we assumed market pricing, but had to ask just the same, this being our first visit. The woman, in her best condescending tone, informed us of the market pricing and vaguely through out an approximate value that might cover all the items. We could ask if interested. She walked away. We decided to walk away as well. The food may well be excellent, however, we choose to patronize establishments that at least act like they want our business. read more
