I had my first experience at SEE in Brooklyn Smith Street and loved loved their jato-me attention. After 2 years, I gave this location a try and loved how thorough they are with their customers: always helpful, trying different pairs and taking time to ensure the customer gets what they need. Furthermore, I also come for my eye exams here always saying to myself I would not buy more frames but I just loved them all (insurance are accepted and you can use your FSA on the frames) I can't recommend this store enough, I had the opportunity to also stopped by again this past week cuz my latest glasses were lost and the service was A++ Did not have to wait, they found my information super quick and was over the moon with my new pair!!! The optometrist was very nice and very professional and also very personable. The eye exam was about 25 minutes. Setting was pleasant clean and comfortable. Everything else from that point was downhill unfortunately. The vision I wear sales person was very cold. Unfortunately I did not have all of the information for my insurance plan with me so I took up too much of his time. After that tedious experience I did have the information for him. He gave me my options for eyeglasses and the price range. I did not want to spend $300 for reading glasses so I opted to just keep my prescription and shop elsewhere. He was very abrupt and condescending and arrogant with me and abruptly showed me the door without thanking me for coming in not a word as I exited. It was no attempt whatsoever to explain to me why I should shop at the store as opposed to the others. read more

This is my go to for all things optical. The owner, Jason is a delight and remembers me every time I come in (circa 2016...?). The prices are worth it. Frames are very trendy but they can find you something that works if you're "trend-adjacent" like me. I've never gotten so many compliments on my 1,2,3,4,5,6...think 7-8 frames. Warby Parker is down the street, but if you want cheap and low quality, go there, but SEE is an investment on both your side, and theirs. read more

Purchased glasses 12 months ago. Received the cleaning cloth and purchased the cleaning solution. After 9 months the lenses started to have scratches all over. Just walked into the store to learn that they learned that the cloth also required to be washed (which I was not told when purchased). They store does not take any responsibility or even offer to fixed the problem (they were very nice to offer me to replace the lenses for full price (Da!). They will not see my face again. If you like rude, indifferent salespeople in a shop of ridiculously overpriced eyewear with horrendous service, then come to this shop! As a 30-year New Yorker, I am normally immune to any kind of attitude, especially from shop girls, but this place takes the cake. Not only did I have to wait 3 weeks to get replacement lenses on $300 frames, but the shop girl tried to charge me $200 on a replacement cost of $100 for the lenses, just automatically assuming I wanted the anti-scratch protection. Before signing the receipt, I saw the breakdown and immediately had them refund the anti-scratch protection. The West Village location is so much better and I would rather go blind than ever shop in this HORRIBLE place again. I have a weird face. My cheeks are high and my nose bridge is low and I refused to wear glasses until the morning the text on my phone seemed to vanish and I realized it was my eyes, not the phone. This was in 2014 which is the first time I had my eyes checked and purchased frames from SEE. I loved my glasses until they had an untimely demise when my cat knocked them off my loft (long story). Because their frames are all limited editions, I could not get the same ones but Billie helped me find a similar pair and suggested another eye exam since it had been a few years. The eye doc was thorough and suggested changes to my prescription. They measured my eyes for progressives but when they came back there was an error which they caught immediately and corrected them. During this visit, they were having a trunk show and while I was waiting for Billie to finish with another client I tried on additional frames and fell in love with a different pair than the ones I had selected. I joked about trading them in and was informed that you can get "re-styled" within 14 days so after asking literally every single staff person's opinion and making Billie take a blood oath that these were the better choice, she exchanged my glasses and made the necessary adjustments as the frames were much larger. Aside from Billie - who I adore - every single person from the eye doc to the person who measured me for the progressives, the tech in training and the salesperson who was there when I picked up my frames; everyone is helpful, friendly and knowledgable. They get it, that glasses serve not only as function, but also as fashion. I love my new frames and can't recommend SEE enough. read more

Unfortunately, I bought 3 pair of progressive-lens glasses here. I've worn top of the line Varilux for at least 10 years without any trouble. Until SEE, I've had them made at a more expensive store and never had any problems, even as my Rx has changed a bit every couple of years. I decided to try SEE with my most recent Rx. I've spent almost a year trying to get acclimated to the new glasses (3 pair), and they're all different. I finally realized that they aren't lined up correctly across my eyes. When buying progressives, the glasses need to be fitted properly BEFORE they are marked. Otherwise the lenses will be mis-marked and will not align correctly. (eg, One lens will be focused for reading while the other lens is focused for mid-distance.) It's taken me a while to figure out what happened, but I'm going back to my more expensive store for the future. I'm just sorry I tried to adjust to these for a year, thinking it was MY problem. read more

The sales woman recoiled when she saw my prescription. I explained that I have a really high prescription and asked which frames could accommodate my prescription. I handed her the paper that had the details and she said "oh" and recoiled. How are you going to be surprised by an eyeglass prescription when you work at an eyeglass place? She then spent a few minutes trying to find frames for me with no luck so I just left. I was charged for "Blue Light" protection that was not needed due the charge of $450.00 for transitions, I realized the mistake (which at the time I thought it was) when I got home. I then called the store and was assured I would receive a refund for that, mind you the order was just processed. Whatever the case I was stuck with the order because their policy is no refunds even though I hadn't received the glasses yet. For the last 5 years or so I have shopped with SEE eyewear. They have a good selection of frames, optometrist on site a couple days a week and the prices are very reasonable. I so liked this store, that even when I wasn't living in NYC I would go out of my way to find SEE in other cities (it's a national chain). The most recent time I shopped at SEE, however, was the last. The fault lies entirely with the employee who "helped" me, however I consider the service I received unforgivable to the point that I will never return. First: when he rang me up, he didn't ask me about what sort of lenses/protection etc. I wanted, he just charged me for the most expensive everything. When my total was $400 more than it should have been, I of course stopped him and asked him to explain why it was so expensive. He informed me that my prescription would only work with the most expensive lenses and that there was no other way. I told him I would not be taking the glasses. THEN he decided that I could do the next tier down which was still far more than I wanted to pay. He lied to me again, telling me that there really was no way I could use the basic lenses with my prescription and only when I got up to leave did he relent and "allow" me to buy the glasses I wanted to buy. Second: I don't know why I let this douche sell me on anything at this point, but I let him convince me to open up a credit card in order to save 10% on my purchase. He told me the details of the card, 0% APR for X months and no payments due for 6 months. Sounded pretty good so I signed up, bought my glasses and went on my way. Once again, the guy lied to me, as 6 weeks later I start getting harassing calls from the credit card company saying I've missed a payment and that they were upping my APR and charging me a late fee. Turns out the 6 months no payment was another lie, and now I am paying interest and getting charged extra. So that's it. I will miss shopping at SEE for glasses, but I consider that an unforgivable shopping experience. I will not return, and cannot in any good conscience recommend the store to others. read more

I got a Groupon for $200 off prescription frames at this place. Customer service was really great. Tamika, one of the salespeople helped me out and she was very friendly and attentive without being pushy. She asked what style and colors I like and she also had good suggestions. She gave me a large tray to put in the ones I like. They have a pretty big selection. She also immediately called my optometrist and got the prescription-a requirement even though it's not through insurance and I know my prescription for each eye. She also measured the distance between my eyes to ensure the right fit. They also let me use their bathroom which I appreciated. I should be getting my frames in about a week-really looking forward to my new glasses! read more

One word - UNETHICAL Does SEE have stylish frames and affordable prices? Yes. Do they also have managers that outright lie? Absolutely The manager at this particular location basically tried to renege on a quote and sneak in extra charges after I had agreed to a price with a sales rep. Here's what happened: I had just received a new prescription from my optometrist and decided to stop into SEE to check out their frames. I actually found a pair that I really liked and asked the employee working there to price the frames and lenses for me. She gave me a quote that I found very reasonable, but I wasn't ready to buy just yet. I wanted to get my wife's opinion before I pulled the trigger and told her I would stop by tomorrow afternoon with my wife. She wrote down all the information for the frames and lenses (including the price quote) and all the extras that I wanted (including anti-reflective coating) on the back of her card and just told me to come back anytime and any of the reps should be able to help me. I stopped by the next day and one of the managers helped me instead of the original sales rep. I pointed out the frames I wanted from the day before and gave her my prescription. She priced everything up and somehow the glasses came out to be $150 more than the day before. I pulled out the price quote that the sales rep had given me, and the manager basically refused to honor it. In fact, when I wasn't looking she took it off the talbe and RIPPED IT UP. I was so pissed that I walked out of the store and went across the street and bought glasses from Robert Marc instead. I really, really wanted to love SEE. I'd heard about them and jumped on a Groupon offer to try out their frames. With connections to the glasses industry and a personal collection, I consider myself to be fairly savvy when it comes to eyewear. SEE's stock changes very regularly. When I went in to redeem my Groupon, I found several fun frames and chose some oversize cat eyes. They didn't fit quite right, but I figured I could make it work. There was a ton of new stock when I went back a week later to pick up my new frames. If you don't see something you like the first time, try coming back a couple of weeks later. I wish I could have waited and selected a better fitting frame. I had to get nose pads installed on the pair I ended up with. Something worth knowing: SEE sources its frames from a variety of factories, many (if not all) of which produce frames for other companies. I was wearing some crazy rhinestone-bedazzled frames when I went to pick up my new cat eyes and the shop girls were totally confused about how I got my glasses so quickly (?!). I'd gotten the frames from another company, Frieze Frames, over a year ago! SEE prides itself on its unusual selection and inventory, and these women were downright rude about me wearing frames they'd just gotten in. Customer service is middling and they will probably not have something for everyone. Their fitting and frame adjustment skills aren't stellar. I really expected more from SEE and would only recommend them to a very independent, experienced glasses shopper - who probably has other connections anyway. read more

If I could give this place 2.5 stars I would. I was recommended by two close friends and co-workers and was extremely excited to come and get new glasses. Mind you, I've been wearing glasses for over 10 years and know what the process is like. The Short: Ordered and paid for new glasses on October 30th. Very excited and was told they would be in the store and they would call me in about 10 days. Great!! Today is November 16th and the won't be in until the 18th, at the earliest..... Wouldn't have known this except for repeated phone calls and only one follow up from them back to me. The Long: After having dealt with a very nice and very helpful sales rep (her name escapes me and I wish it hadn't because she was great!) I purchased new frames, gave them my prescription and left very happy. She didn't try to gouge me or anything. Perfect! (+2) I called 13 days after I ordered (having not heard from them after 10 as promised) and spoke to David. He told me there was some issue with the anti glare coating at the lab that didn't pass their standards. Okay great I'm happy you have high standards (+1). He said he was going to reach out to the lab to find out when the ETA was and he would call me back. Never heard from him... (-0.5) I called back on day 16 and speak to David again. He again tells me he'll reach out to the lab and call me back. Nothing.... (-1) I call back two days later (today) and spoke to Christina. I told her I was frustrated and explained what was going on. She said she would reach out to the lab and call me back. She actually DID call me back!!!! (+1!!!) However, she said that there was an issue (same stuff as before) and that they wouldn't be in until day 20 at the earliest. She then told me that because I have prism (which I have since I was 10) that it would take longer. However, I have never had this problem with any glasses I have ordered from any other store, and if it were to take longer, I should have been told that upon paying. I am leaving for about a week and won't be able to get the glasses until day 28 which really annoys me to no end. They did however, offer to overnight them to me, which I appreciate, but won't work since I will be in several locations over the course of the week. Not a terrible experience but not great either. Will update once I get my glasses.... UPDATE: Christina called me back today and told me she pulled some strings to get my glasses by tomorrow before I leave on my trip. There is no doubt about it - they have some of the most stylish and affordable frames around. My advice to you: buy their frames, but do NOT bother getting their lenses. I am a wearer of progressives and have been for at least 10 years. The progressives they made for me are unwearable and they refused to re-make them. To add insult to injury they tried to convince me that the glasses I had been wearing - which had sported at least eight different pairs of lenses over the years, made by everyone from Walmart to Robert Marc - were wrong. Buy the frames, but skip the lenses. For my money, the best lenses I ever bought were from LensCrafter. Their frames are awful, but their lenses are great. Once my insurance allows me I will be going back there to get lenses made correctly. read more

Amazing! I bought a new pair of glasses from the West Vill location, but they needed adjusting. I went back to the West Vill spot and had them adjusted, but they still weren't right. I stopped by this UWS location 3 weeks ago for another adjustment, and everything seemed better, but after a few hours they were uncomfortable, sliding down my nose, pinching the back of my ears. OUCH. I even went to a few of the lensecrafters around my hood for even more adjustments. I was so frustrated! Today (April 16), I went back to SEE for one more try. I was already shopping around for new frames and the guy recognized me from my last visit. I told him about my visual woes, and he was able to appropriately adjust my frames! They fit me perfectly now. I can hardly feel them! Thank you SEE!! I will be a customer for life. read more

Initial quote $79 for glasses prescription, $119 for a prescription for glasses and contact lenses. When I showed up they quoted $179. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch, but I finally said OK. I used to recommend this place to a lot of people but not anymore. I've bought glasses here before. They do have good prices, you compromise customer service for the price. This time I went to buy sunglasses. They're advertised as $198 total for a simple Rx, which is what I have (seriously like -2), and I was given a price of well over $300 as the lowest. I told the sales clerk that I only wanted the glasses if they'd be ready before my vacation. She assured me that she'd put them on rush and they'd be ready 3 to 5 days later. It's been 7 business days, still no glasses, and now I won't have them for my vacation! When I called at first the same sales clerk lied and said they didn't receive the fax for my RX until late the next evening and it didn't go in until the next day. I offered to send her the fax transmission that the fax went thru early in the morning and reminded her that I called and asked directly for her confirm they received it in the morning which they did. She apologized again, admitting that wasn't true. After "the lab" was called she told me they could not be rushed because they were tinted and polarized. When I purchased the glasses the sales clerk somehow convinced me to have them tinted and polarized. I specifically asked if this would take longer stating the day I am leaving and she said - NO! I stressed my priority was to have them for my vacation and was assured I would. Perhaps she should have called the lab before I made my purchase to see if this would delay my order. Now I paid extra money for these features, and was told this is why I won't have sunglasses for my vacation!! What's more disturbing is that I was already a steady customer of SEE. The offered me a free cleaning kit and said it was their fault - really?! I still don't have the sunglasses you sold me for my vacation.. Overall the glasses are cheap but don't expect the customer service to be good once they swipe your credit card. This place seems only invested in bringing in new clients, not maintaining the any loyal clientele that they have. Obviously the staff doesn't have enough information regarding the process of having the glasses made up, or should at least check things out, and only focus on making a quick sale. The sales clerk agreed that she promised to have them ready in 3 - 5 days, which didn't happen. I've had glasses made up with my Rx in the city in an hour. This place needs to take a serious look at the customer service they provide after they make the sale and to existing customers. The glasses I got are exactly what I've been looking for and they were done (with prescription lenses) in exactly one week. First I must say I didn't purchase anything here, but I must say I was tempted! Terrific selection, and everything was really reasonably priced. You could get a really classy, quirky, trendy pair of glasses here for around $100, definitely under $200. Much more fashionable selection than the same old LensCrafters type selection you see most places. And shockingly cheap! They were featured in Oprah Magazine (and maybe as one of her favorite things, if I remember correctly) and I am not surprised at all. Like I said, I didn't buy anything, so I can't comment on the service, but the salesman sure was attentive and friendly. There is an optician on the premises, and the rates for that seemed cheap too. Today I had a fabulous experience at this SEE. At first I was put off that I had to go back for a contact lens refitting since the first time around was not what I wanted and I had to wait nearly 15 min to be seen. But the friendliness and knowledgeability of Dr. Tran, the Saturday doctor, more than made up for it. She was super cool and explained things thoroughly. Then Jason, the store manager, attended to everything I needed to figure out my confusing insurance, getting new contacts plus prescription sunglasses that would fit me. When I've gone during the week, the place feels sterile and my last staff interaction was like pulling teeth. I admit I'm generally in a rush, but even with the rain, today it was a fun day to shop for frames and take care of my eyes! read more
