Doctor is very much money hungry. Although his receptionist quoted an ideal price. At pick up, price was changed, and as I was not the one to pick up, grandma was. He overcharged her. Denied quoted price although receipt was there as proof. He claims he himself did not approve. Eyewear was for a 5 year old child who he then laughed at claiming "he'll have to wear mommy glasses". When I got there and they remembered my call, got my exam done and my glasses ordered. My exam was great I've never really got the vision I needed from America's best. Yeah, I can't recommend this place. Came here looking to get a pair of trial contacts and a contact lens exam. I was extremely upfront and told the front desk staff that I was only getting this exam for the free trial pair of contacts as I needed lenses for a trip the next day. I also emphasized that I would be buying my contacts online and not here. I was told it would be $100 for the exam which I was okay with. The doctor was very pleasant during the exam but after all was said and done, he states that their policy is that I must buy the contacts from them. I reminded him that I had clarified my conditions with his front office and that we had an agreement. He then got very upset and said something along the lines of "This is not how I do business." He then went out to his receptionist and spoke to her about it and brought her in. She appeared visibly angry and claimed that she never agreed to what I said. At this point, it essentially became a he said she said type of deal. Nevertheless, I was not going to pay $100 just for a prescription that I could get for free from my friends (I have a number of friends who are ophthalmologists. They just don't have their own stock of contacts.) I came for the free trial pair of contacts. Ultimately, the optometrist here compromised on a cash payment of $100, which I thought was reasonable. He also gave me multiple trial pairs which was nice of him. This is the only reason this place isn't 1 Star. Since then, I've tried to fill contact prescriptions from online suppliers and every single time this place has denied my prescription until I personally call them to complain. The front desk lady seems to be rather incompetent, to be honest. I've also had reps from 1-800-contacts who have tried to call them on my behalf and complained that they were very difficult to work with. I will not be coming back to this place. If you are reading this, 1-800-CONTACTS now has a way to determine your prescription online via your computer and can get you a prescription verified by an optometrist within 24 hrs for a mere $20. It's 2018. We have a robot that can make complex medical diagnoses. There is really no longer a reason to be getting a glasses/contacts prescription from a live person. If you ask me, there really shouldn't be a prescription needed for glasses/contacts at all. It's just another method industries use to take more of your money by controlling the supply. read more

As a customer a few years back here, I thought it would be a natural choice to call back when I needed a quick prescription for contacts. I usually hit up my old optometrist but I work in East Harlem and I thought it would be convenient to go back to a doctor who I had once visited because I had just run out of contacts. My experience then was uneventful--in a good just give me a prescription covered by my insurance plan (UFT Welfare Fund)--type of visit. I got my glasses, he told me my eyes were dry and suggested transition lens. (Only left with glasses). I called last week to be told that getting a contact prescription was not covered by my perfunctory insurance, that I would have to pay another $100 for a "contact lens examination." REALLY?! So I said, "Ok thanks," and called Specs for Less down the street and got not only an examination and prescription for contacts, the doctor didn't think it was a big deal to give me my eye glass prescription (I plan to order glasses elsewhere) and remind me to get my "free" glasses covered by my insurance. The dishonesty from this optometrist forces me give them one star. read more

Got my contacts from this place I told them I needed a prescription from them they told me ok then after I paid they gave me a bootleg looking prescription without the Doctors name. My contacts was suppose to last me six months but it hasn't even been 3 months and every single one broke. Cheapest brand I've ever received. I should of knew something was wrong when they had my contacts in stock. I've always had to wait at least a week with every other company. Basically thy gave me expired lenses. Don't waste your money. They are all scam artist at this place. I've been trying to get my prescription from this place and they refuse to give it to me. Which is against the law. They are suppose to give you your prescription. Don't waste your time and money. We live in a big city and we have much better eye places then this one. read more

My daughter broke her glasses two weeks before my insurance would replace them so I was forced to spend out of pocket for a new pair. We wandered into the store with no appointment, right before closing time and we found them to be so kind and professional. Not only that, but the new glasses, even though they are a designer frame, are not breaking the bank! Furthermore, we were very happy to find out that they would be ready within 24 hours!! This place is the worst. I purchased a pair of glasses from here for my daughter when she was 7 years old her glasses were $300.00 the same week i was in there getting them fixed the arms were lose and the nose cushions fell off. Okay when I had gotten them back the lens were cracking from the corner where the screw were. He said there was nothing he can do I would have to pay for the lens. So I went to Walmart brought my daughter a pair of glasses for $127.00 age still has the glasses and my daughter is 9 now. The warranty on them is excellent. I went there last week and purchased a pair for myself . I notice the string at the bottom of my right lens were not in the glass. My plans were to take it there this week due to Christmas shopping been busy. Why my lens pops out this morning. I take it there nothing was wrong with my lens I made sure. The wait was 5 mins. My lens came back with a deep scratch at the bottom of My right lens. They response was we didn't do it.of course. So I had to ask how much to repair it being that it's you guys fault that the lens weren't secure in the first place. If it were secure it wouldn't have popped out I didn't drop it. So because this company didn't do it right when I purchased them they wanted me to pay $75 for the right lens. NEVER GO THERE YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. NEVER GO THERE. I should have never gone back. In 2009 my mother went to Eyes For U, and bought a pair of overpriced glasses from the brand Just Cavalii . We saw the same pair at another optical place, anywhere from 150-225 dollars cheaper. I had to escort her back due to the fact that the pair she bought needed an adjustment since one of the lenses fell off . While there I noticed a lot of the pairs of glasses did not have prices. I questioned the "scam artist" Valerie , why no prices on the frames ? She was quick to answer " maybe the fell off"with major Attitude. Now November 2014 - my mother is a little older and is started to show signs of dementia , she forgets what happened in 2009 . Being a creature of habit, she goes back to the store that originally ripped her off . She went in to just get lenses put into a pair of glasses she already owns . Comes out with a line of Care Credit for 2000.00 dollars for 2 brand new pairs of glasses and a pair of lens for her pair , that will be send to the lab in the morning. I go to visit her that evening and she looks upset . I ask " what's wrong ? " and she replied " I got myself into trouble and I'm not sure how I'm going to pay for this line of credit . She tells me the above story . I immediately phone my brother and we decide that in the morning we'll call them he being in California and I in NY , we would do a conference call . Needless to say, Valerie did not seem happy that we were calling . My brother did most of the talking . He asked if she can put a stop on the order into the lab . He explained my mother is getting treated for immaculate degeneration and the glasses would only serve the purpose for a short period of time . Also that our mother was starting to do erratic things and that we were going to talk to her about seeing her doctor and getting tested for Dementia /Alzheimer's , She replied too late ,we send everything out to the lab already. Which was early morning and she could have made an attempt but she refused . My brother also asked for the model numbers since they were not listed in the bill of sale. She replied with a nasty Attitude "they are Gucci glasses this years models and I will not give you the model numbers." I completely lost it . She was ripping my mom off , 850 dollars for one pair of glasses. ( I'm suppose to be calm- no way ) She then hangs up on us ., We decided to call back, now she alters her voice and pretends to be someone else when we asked to speak to Valerie, she states "that she went to Lunch" She starts using this fake voice then suddenly when I call her out on the fact that she sounds like Valerie on she hangs up on us again . My brother then calls her back solo ( at this point I can't take it anymore ) and she tells my brother that we are harassing her. That my mother has" expensive taste and the she has a custom built home in Puerto Rico, she can afford it". The nerve of her . We decided to take this up with Care Credit and after 3 weeks the verdict is that my mother has to pay for the glasses. The glasses were finally picked up yesterday, yes 2 months after they were ordered since she place the order. Valerie was not happy to see me accompanying my mother. We got into it again, when she proceeded to shush me , that is was my mother's money. My verdict is that Valerie is a nasty rip off artist with poor customer service, a ugly attitude,and face to match . I rate this place negative, toxic and since no one is hardly in there the have to compensate with high prices . BUYERS BEWARE - UNPROFESSIONAL-OVERPRICED and and HORRIBLE SERVICE WITH AN ATTITUDE ! The ladies are nice well....persuasive but they are way over price...supposedly my glasses were on sale. My glasses were 700 plus the eye exam is another 100$. She said oh thr glasses were originally $1000! Are u serious? B**** please! And the fast talking jew doctor barely got my vision medicine in. he spoke more about how i should get anti glare for about 45 minutes for another 100$ This place will give u a true run for your money. read more

I went to Eyes For U Optical for an annual eye exam, and my R/X had changed and so I opened a Care Credit Account so that I could order new glasses. I was approved for a line of credit and the frames that I chose were not available in the color of my choice and I was told that the color could be ordered and would be ready within a few days. A few days later I got a call from Eyes For U Optical and i was informed that my glasses were ready, however when I arrived at their office the same glasses that I had not wanted to begin with were the ones that were ready. For some reason they either didn't order the color I had asked for or couldn't, I never got a clear answer as to what exactly happened. The associate informed me that I would have to take the glasses because they had already put my R/X in the frames even thought they were not the color I ordered. I asked her to cancel the order and she said there was no way to reverse the transaction and so I called Care Credit to get my account credited since this office was unwilling to do so for a pair of glasses that I had not ordered. Needless to say, this has made me leery of this office's practices. I can only wonder how many other people this has happened to and they have been stuck paying for glasses that they did not order. The WORST, I went to Eyes For U, and bought 3 pair of overpriced glasses, that was 1,500. Even thought I had insurance (union DC37, that I was told they except) they still charged me for the three pairs. After I was talked into getting Optical Care Credit Account. I had the transition lens placed in all 3 pairs. About a week later the film from the transition lens started peeling away from the lens of the overpriced Prada frame. I took them back to Optical for u, after having my glasses for two weeks they still did not have them ready for me went I finally went into the shop. It was after I begin to tell them that they have had my glass for 2 weeks (no one called me with in the 2 weeks) and my glasses should have been ready, that they repaired them. Only for the transition film to peel again. Now the film is beginning to peel on another one of the frames that I bought from them. I also purchase a non scratch coating of my lens, well I am here to tell you that my and my daughter's lens are scratched. This is truly a buyer be ware establishment. I have had glasses for over 40 years and have NEVER had an experiment like this before. I you are looking for poor quality, overpriced frames and a place that only care about getting your money, then optical for u is for you.
