If you are only going for the most basic exam, it's a decent place. Keep in mind that their glasses are overpriced. I wanted to replace the lenses on mine and they quoted me about $450 with insurance. At Costco, I had to pay $90 without insurance. If you've had lasik in the past and currently need contacts, the optometrist will have no idea what to do with you. She kept giving me soft contacts when they were clearly the wrong option for me. I had to read up on it myself. Lasik flattens the cornea and creates small irregularities in it, so soft contacts do not stay in the correct place and usually do not provide the correction you need. She could've done some research instead of asking me to go back to try on different soft contacts. The optometrist actually said I had to go to her again (!!) and try another type of soft contacts before she would give me a referral. I almost rolled my eyes. The poor girl was clueless, and I had better things to do with my time than to hang out at Optyx. I don't know what the rule is for optometrists, but physicians have to prescribe what's best for you, not what's more or less OK. read more

Decided to go out of my usual comfort zone and get an outlandish pair of glasses. I chickened out, and went for these Celine glasses. Fits great, goes with anything and they're super comfortable. Oh yeah staff followed COVID procedures. Everything was cleaned before and after I tried on. I was also given sanitizer as soon as I walked in, and before I touched a pair. read more

Had mixed feelings about this place. First, the good. Dr. Tran was lovely. She was friendly, funny and made the eye exam a pleasant experience. She knew what she was doing. I felt comfortable and would return to her in the future. My biggest issue came with the prices and some of the staff. I only went there because my husband's insurance was accepted there. But, after my exam, the lady at the desk started handing me glasses to try on. It seemed innocent at first, until I realized she was only handing me the glasses that were 399-500 dollars. I kept asking for ones a bit cheaper but was met with dismissal, "But you look so great in that Prada pair...". She also tried to hassle me into getting RX sunglasses too. Eventually I bought a pair, that was nearly 200, with my over 100 insurance benefit. I needed glasses and was sort of being forced to buy something. My husband was the smart one. He refused to buy a pair there, and became even more annoyed when the sales lady tried to get him to try on pairs that were 500 and up. We're both teachers, as we attempted to explain, but it got us nowhere. In the future, I'd like to return to Dr. Tran but I don't think I can handle this nonsense again. read more

Great optical store. Was actually on my way to a different optician, but passed by Optyx so I figured it couldn't hurt to stop in. Nice selection of frames, and the manager, Yusuf, was extremely knowledgable, helpful (and patient!), so -- after continuing on to my original destination, I came back and ended up getting my frames and prescription lenses at Optyx (1125 Lexington Ave. location). Great service. Willing to go the extra mile. Eye exam was very thorough and every staff member was incredibly courteous and helpful. Also offered to help me with calling a brand on my behalf on a pair of sunglasses that needed repair. Very honest and knowledgable with their recommendations. Other stores quoted me $75+ to repair. Stopped by this location to see if they would fix my glasses (in which my lens popped out). The gentleman who served me was pleasant and cheerfully tightened the screw and cleaned my glasses without charging me anything even though I had purchased them elsewhere. Customer service is A+ and they have a great selection of upscale glasses. However, my low rating relates to the Doctors onsite and the technology used to perform the eye exam. Very antiquated technology which produce less than accurate results. I had my prescription redone twice and both times it was incorrect. I had to go back to my old prescription from another place since I had no trust that the Doctors here would get it right a third time. read more

I'm not one to post reviews but I am still so livid by my experience at this store that I had to say something. I had Dr. Ilyayeva for my eye exam and it was quick and not as thorough as the many other exams I've had in the past. I've been wearing glasses for over 10 years so I've had my fair share of exams. This exam definitely felt rushed and unprofessional. The women at the front of the store were rude and not helpful on multiple accounts. The doctor also tried to tell me that my prescription had changed drastically and that I should consider buying a new pair of glasses while I was there. This was not true because I pulled out my prescription from my last exam and everything stayed the same. Overall, I was not impressed with the condescending treatment I got from anyone employed at this store. I will definitely not be returning. read more

She was friendly and helpful and explained the process for getting my lenses clearly. Like most people, I thought Dr. Tran was very pleasant. The optician who helped me choose frames - can't remember her name - was annoying. And they don't have a huge selection. But I wound up just sort of ignoring her and choosing frames I liked. After receiving a message that the glasses were ready, when I went to pick them up, they couldn't find them. But when I arrived home, Kelvin called to say he had found them, and offered to have someone deliver them, which made me very happy. I think the glasses are well made and have had no problems. When I realized I needed a receipt for my flex spending reimbursement, I called and they emailed it within minutes. So, overall, I'd say this was a 4-star experience and I would go back. read more

I stumbled upon Optyx b/c it was close to home, had good reviews, and accepted my insurance. Dr. Tran was great! She was so friendly and thorough which is a rare combination for many doctors in the city. The optical staff was a bit pushy at times. I would've liked to search around the frames on my own a bit more before they were selecting them for me. In the end I was able to get the frames I wanted and Dr. Tran even gave her input! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tran at any of the locations she works at. Be wary of that the frame selection is on the higher end but I did get my glasses back the next day which was huge for me! Also, I loved that I could book my appointment online. Makes it much easier to book during the work week when you can see the available times in front of you. read more

Unfriendly customer experiences are very rare in NYC (especially compared to Paris where I come from) but in 30 years of wearing glasses I never had a bad optician experience. Grueneyes was the worst optician experience ever... First couple of times there were uneventful (sunglasses for children, repair for my wife, etc.)! Then it went from worse to worse: - took 5 lengthy explanations to get 3 different opticians working in the same shop to understand what they were supposed to do with my insurance (though it was trivial)... Total lack of organization and office communication... - ended up waiting for 45 minutes twice to see the doc who barely apologized (though to her credit she did a good exam) - had to wait 3 weeks for the frame to arrive in their shop (maybe not their fault as it was imported from Italy I can accept that) - then the frame was the wrong color and the temples did not fit - an optician or should I say shop keeper named Anthony tried to bully me arguing that they fitter perfectly (a good 5 millimeter too short on the temples)... - refused to send it back to get a new one and insisted on me taking them with me - threatened me in the shop and ask his colleague to throw me away All in all, I see no reason to ever stop in their shop With so many opticians to choose from I don't see the point of entering their shop! read more

I came here merely because of the ease of proximity, but boy did I luck out. Dr. Tran is awesome - genuinely cares about her patients, is smart, is funny and takes care of you like she would a friend. I had all my options, felt informed the whole time, and appreciated some of the alternative non-invasive tests they use. Besides the eye care, great selection of frames, etc. if you live in the UES, def check this place out for your next eye-wear visit. I will be a repeat customer, 100%. read more

Dr Tran is great ! I have worn glasses and contacts most of my life and recently had a horrible experience at Lenscrafters . My contact prescription was wrong and they LIED about giving me bifocal glasses which I paid for! At Optyx they corrected my contact prescription and were very fast and professional about it. I highly recommend this shop as a place to get your eye care. Let's face it, glasses and contacts are expensive; this industry is NOT regulated so we now pay a fortune for frames and prescriptions. I agree with Melissa O's review. Dr. Tran was really nice and informative and she made the exam a pleasant experience. That being said the service by the staff was so horrendous I will not go back there. After the eye exam, I was looking at glasses. I wanted to invest in a nice pair of glasses so I was looking at high-er end glasses. I figured with the frames and lenses (which I didn't think was going to be complicated at all since my vision wasn't that bad) I would be around the $500 range. The two female staff were sooo nice and friendly at this point, saying this and that about how nice the frames look and etc. When we picked out frames, one of the female staff sat me down then crunched some numbers and told me it would cost $950 (without tax). I was flabbergasted. Almost a grand on glasses?! My siblings both have glasses and they have worse vision than I do but they never went over 500 for glasses. When I told them that the price is too steep and that I did not think the lenses would cost something over $300, their tone completely changed. The female staff started re-crunching some numbers and then told me that she can do a 10% discount. I told her that the price was still much higher than what I anticipated and I told them then that I would like to just pay for my eye exam and that I wanted my prescriptions. Then another woman came in and very brusquely demanded to know why I wasn't getting the glasses. I told her point blank that it is far too expensive and then she told me that that's how much these things cost. I was still polite at this point and told her that I will not be purchasing the glasses and just asked to pay for my eye exam and my prescription. Then the woman freaked out and told me that she would do a 10% discount on the frames even though the manufacturer doesn't allow it. I told her that the issue wasn't the frames (I knew what frames from that designer cost) and again to just pay for my eye exam and to have a copy of the prescriptions. Then she went ahead and told Dr. Tran that I wasn't getting glasses, as if she was telling on me. When she finally decided to ring me up for the exam (which she didn't really even know how to do... they have ONE job!), she argued with me again and said, "You wanna just buy the frames then?!" I was truly lost for words. Yes, bullying a customer is totally the way to make a sale. There are soooo many optical shops that have a much bigger selection than this joint. (I ended up going to another shop and ended up paying $410 for brand name glasses.) It's such a shame the staff is so horrendously rude for noooo reason... read more

There are plenty of eyeglass places in my neighborhood, but instead I go 17 blocks to this OPTYX store. I have been wearing glasses since high school and in a lot of places I know more than the sales staff in how to fit them. Nicole was courteous, helpful (even when I said that some frames were too expensive--and there are places where they are even more expensive), and made the visit fun. Every effort was made to get the prescription and glasses right (they were fine) and adjusting the frames a week later was no problem. In short, I trust them. Obviously when I need new glasses, this will be the store I head to. read more

My lightweight 2.5 glasses were distorted after someone sat on them. (The side piece even fell off the frame). In less than 5 minutes they were fixed beautifully. The manager, Sloane, is a pleasure to deal with. read more

I bought Lindberg rimless frames, after waiting for 1 week installation, I realized the lenses had some small air bubbles. They got it back to fix and they installed new lenses and called me back in 3 weeks, and this time one was much bigger (larger) than the other. They probably mixed the models on one pair or tried to use previously cut one. They took it back and after another 2 weeks I got a new one, this time one lens was extremely thick and it was much higher number. They took it back and installed a new one and after another 2 weeks, and it had bubbles, so they could never get it done, and I gave up, I am wearing it and around the bubbled area I don't pay much attention so I am fine. Also be aware, they do not install the lenses you paid for, I specifically bought essilor crizal ones, but they put some cheap highly reflective ones you can get almost for free at Lenscrafters. Also the frame had so many scratches due to their 5 times lens installation, you can see the silver scratches on dark blue frame. Because of them I cannot consider myself as wearing a brand new frame, it was like getting some guys left over ones after seeing all these scratches. I would never buy anything from them, since they do not care. read more
