Unique eyewear, horrible customer service (particularly considering how expensive the frames are). I love how my glasses look, but when I had an issue with the acetate discoloring at the bridge after just a few months, the store made no effort to help me out and just emphasized their limited "warranty" that doesn't cover repairs and requires my purchasing new glasses. After telling me a manager would "get right back to me," the sales clerk instead called me 3 weeks later with the solution of trying to convince me that "my 1 year warranty is up anyways" bc we are in a different calendar year (when in fact not even 6 months had passed). In the meantime it took me 5 minutes to Google the issue and learn on Yahoo answers that Mr Clean Magic Eraser fixes the problem every time...whether you spend $400 or $40 on your plastic glasses. read more

Awesome selection of high quality frames here at See! So many options from a more traditional look to over the top funky :) I ended up with something in between... but there's definitely something for everybody here. Customer service was great as well. I was helped by Tim. He really knew his stuff. He also gave me chocolate--anybody who gives me chocolate automatically gets bonus points. There was another guy there who was also extremely helpful, but I forgot his name. He was friendly and funny too. Much better customer service and product than Len's Crafters, for example. The Newbury See store service was awesome! Joe welcomed me as I walked in the store and quickly showed me some frames that fit the description I gave him. He wasn't pushy at all, and allowed me to look and try on frames at my pleasure without any over-bearing assistance. I didn't feel rushed at all during this process and ended up buying a pair of glasses with a Groupon discount. Joe said that the lenses would be free had I not opted for the anti-scratch and anti-reflective lenses, which is an awesome perk! I picked up my glasses about 9 days later and the prescription was spot on (they read the prescription from my old pair of glasses). Andre(I think his name was Andre, either that or Rohan based off of some other reviews) fit my frame to my face to a very comfortable fit, but I later returned to have them tightened as they were too loose on me. Not a huge problem, and most likely my fault for not getting them as tight to begin with. Andre (or Rohan) was very respectful and genuinely nice guy. They had a great selection of glasses ranging from modern and trendy to average looking frames, so its easy to find any style you're looking for. Despite the fact that the product sells itself, Tim was a phenomenal help. He gave his honest opinion about how I looked in each pair of frames and offered to have me try alternatives. I really wanted the cat-eyed blinged out clear pink ones but alas, I went for the squarish, large-framed tortoise shell frames with a gorgeous green colour underneath. Dr.Jimmerson gets 5 stars from me! I've never been to the eye doctor, and he was thorough, kind, funny and explained everything he was doing and made me feel comfortable. They even fit me in for a same day appointment! The girl who took my appointment was also very helpful and nice, don't remember her name but she was a brunette with sparkly glasses. Rob also gets 5 stars! He was very helpful and nice, even though it was really busy on Saturday he took the time to help me and I found a pair I really liked and helped me get all set up and explained everything to me. I like my frames and they'll be ready soon :) only a few days! It's a nice setup, lots of selection, nice office and all the staff members are all great and great customer service. Frames as it turns out are very affordable for prescription glasses! What more could you ask for really? They've also got some pretty great coloring pages if you are a child (or a child at heart) with a creative itch. Overall, I had a great experience! I highly recommend SEE eyewear for trendy and affordable well made glasses! Sheri assisted me on a weekday evening after work and was very attentive as soon as I walked in. She greeted me and helped me right away. It was my first time there but I had an idea on the shape I wanted my glasses and she started pulling a variety of the glasses in different colors as I looked around. I sat down and tried a million pairs on and I ended up going with a pair she pulled for me. I had a wonderful experience and Sheri was very welcoming and patient with me. I got my glasses in a week and was very happy with them. I personally use to go to Warby Parker before but their styles seem to be very repetitive and at SEE eyewear they have all different styles. If I could give ZERO Stars I would have! I thought this would be a fantastic place to go get my glasses . The Yelpers rated pretty high and I have to say my experience was the exact opposite . I would NEVER EVER go back to this business to care for my eye sight. The visit felt like I was buying a used car from an unsavory sales person rather than being at a doctor's office for eye glasses. If you want to deal with a store that is only looking out for their best interest and extremely poor business ethics this may be the right store for you. BUYER BEWARE! My wife and I arrive at the office and were greeted politely. As soon as we completed our paperwork each of our exams took about 15 min. The person who administered the exams never introduced herself. In comparison to other vision tests I have had in the past this one was incredibly short. I do not feel it was anywhere near as thorough as Lens Crafters. They did not test for color blindness, did not have the equipment to take a picture of the retina . Needless to say I have never needed glasses in my life but with the big 40 chasing me I thought maybe Father Time is catching up to me. This new person who examined me said I needed a progressive lens ... I was like WHAT ? When I think of a progressive lens I generally think of an older person that needs distance glasses and readers. In the past my eye Dr. recommended 1+ readers to help reduce eye strain after countless hours of staring at a computer screen and now PROGRESSIVE lenses OMG what the heck happened. After getting over the shock the sensible side of me kicked in trying to understand why in the world I would need such a change in my glasses. From 1+ readers to needing a progressive lens ( see below for why). While thinking rationally I walked outside to the waiting area where my wife was already selecting frames. SEE Optical only offers the frames they make. Selection may seem overly abundant but I truly miss the different looks that other designers offer. In comparison to other places there frames were 2 to 3 times more expensive than other places I have been to. Here is where things start to get that used car salesman twang. As the store representative brought me frames I noticed the first pair was the least expensive and then the pair he really loved was the most expensive frame they offered. I selected the best frame and so did my wife and now the sales funnel truly gets worse. As her glasses are being priced out the sales rep sales while your insurance covers this it does not cover our version . example - The vision program covered anti-glare and scratch but SEE said they had a premium process for this and it would not cover their anti glare process. Our plan covers poly carbonate lenses but once again not SEE's lenses so they up charged us again .. the list of up charges continues. When they priced out my pair I could literally feel them pulling my credit card from my wallet. Flat prescription like 1.5 + came to just above 550$ and if I went with the doctor's recommendation my glasses would have been around $700. I have never felt this scammed in a doctor's office in my life. My wife and I decided to leave and come back if we desired to purchase the glasses through SEE. We were both disgusted at the experience. FYI - I asked for a break down in pricing for our glasses so I could keep a record and I was politely told " no worries it's in our computer for when you come back" We walked down Newbury Street a couple of blocks to For Eyes immediate noticed a difference in frame selection and price. We picked out a frames and sat down to complete our purchase. We tried to purchase our glasses but we could not use our insurance card as SEE Optical already pulled an authorization our insurance. In essence they already used our allotment for this year even though we did not purchase glasses from them . After calling our insurance company we were forced to contact SEE again and have them release their authorization on glasses. The authorization was released and we ordered our glasses. We were able to purchase both pairs for less than half the amount from SEE Optical was going to charge for our least expensive pair. read more

This one-star rating is only based on my most recent experience with the new manager. I've been a customer of See Eyewear on Newbury Street for about 15 years, during most of which the same manager, Tim Parks, was an incredibly professional and helpful partner in making sure I could see where I was going while doing it stylishly, as well as being extremely friendly and personable. His successor, Rohan, was also equally pleasant to work with and was genuinely interested in my satisfaction as a customer and my well being as a person. Lately, there is a new manager at the store. His name is Jim and he also is the in-store optometrist. I have found dealing with him to be frustrating, unhelpful and unacceptable. His sole goal seems to be to get you to come in and pay for his services as an optometrist, under the guise of making sure that your lenses are seated well in your frames, which has never been a problem for me with one exception. I am not sure whether he charges for this service, but I suspect that he does and that that is his true motivator. This is based partially on the fact that he answers the phone "See Eyewear, can I schedule you for an optometry exam?" No one has ever answered the phone in that manner in all my years of calling the store. He has my frames, but refused to fill my prescription without my coming in to the store again for an exam, even though he knew I had a tight deadline. Jim's management does not focus on customer service. His communication with me on the above-mentioned situation was unclear and unhelpful. I left more than one phone message for him which he did not return. When I tried to clarify the situation, he was smug, stubborn and unrepentant for the miscommunication that came from his side of the equation. I plan to pick up my frames without having the prescriptions filled. Although I have been a loyal customer and bought many frames at See, I will go somewhere else, possibly another See outlet. I have evangelized for and acted as a walking billboard for See (people ask me all the time where I got my glasses and I always rave about See on Newbury), but it isn't worth it to me to feel my patronage is worth so little to this particular manager. read more

To the contrary, they are through the roof. 2) Many of the frames are not marked with prices. 3) The price the salesperson quoted me for the same glasses changed three times for no apparent reason. I felt as if I were at a car dealership. 4) After I purchased my glasses, I did not notice that the salesperson had slipped in $99 for some sort of coating. When I went back to question it, he said we had talked about it -- we hadn't! 5) It took 10 days for me to get my glasses -- ridiculous! 6) I found out later that the nose bridge on the glasses was not right for me -- the bridge did not rest on my nose. read more

I have found that the customer service at this Newbury St. location is unfortunately inconsistent. I've been to SEE locations where the salepersons are uniformly great, nice and informative. Here, some are that way, while others are rather abrupt and unhelpful, and act as though they don't want to be bothered to appropriately complete a transction/services--not a pleasant experience, after dropping a chunk on new glasses. I recently bought my 2nd pair of glasses here. I wasn't planning to since the glasses I bought previously (15 mos. ago) easily scratched. I had never had this type of issue before having worn glasses for 30+ yrs. & always buying the more expensive scratch-resistance lenses. I brought the old glasses w/ me to show them & ask why they scratched so easily since I clean my glasses as recommended. They were so helpful & never once tried to heavily blame me for the scratches. Although the glasses were just past their warranty, they offered to replace the lenses w/ my new prescription at the warranty price. Wasn't expecting that at all! They have such a great selection of frames, I decided to purchase a new pair of glasses since they were so accommodating to repairing the lenses of my old glasses. Great customer service creates repeat purchases! Jessica helped me narrow down my selection & make my final decision. She was so friendly as was the manager, which I wish I had her name as well. Shopping on Newbury St. isn't always the most welcoming stores & I've come to expect not-so-friendly service; in which case I don't buy. At SEE Newbury St., these gals were welcoming, friendly, helpful and provided all the service you should expect from a merchant. When I returned to pick up my glasses, I had to tell them just how much I appreciated their help & how surprised I was by their friendliness because it's not always found in Boston or New England, we're kind of cold people, but shouldn't be if your working in retail. I wear my contacts for too many hours a day, according to my optometrist, so she ordered me to get some glasses before my eyeballs fall out. I ventured here for my spectacles based on the stellar Yelp reviews and the fact that it is practically across the street from mi casa. Usually when I go to get glasses I stare at the selection for an hour, walk in circles, stomp my feet, complain about the shape of my puny head and settle on a pair that I don't really like but I can live with. As soon as I walked into See I was overwhelmed by my options. The glasses are super cute and hip. I wondered if they were too hip for me, but I figure that now since I live on Newbs I need to look the part. The salesman was friendly, offered some suggestions, but really let me explore and do my own thing. I was very excited when he told me that the price on the tag included the cost of the lenses too (just over 200 bucks). Sweet! I was instantly drawn to a rectangular feminine frame with a light blue interior and a mahogany exterior. I could feel the hipness washing over me. The ordering transaction was smooth. I got an unexpected discount for living on the street. Also, they gave me a $100 promotional discount for my next pair that I could give to a friend, but I think I will be using that myself. I was told my glasses would take a week and although I never received a call that they were in, when I returned in exactly a week they were ready for me. The prescription was right on and the size fit my puny head exactly. I think I am in the market for a pink cat eye frame with some rhinestones and I know just the place to get them! The frames at this place are great and the owner(?) and staff very helpful. ******DO NOT USE THEIR DOCTOR****** I can not stress this enough. I got the wrong prescription, the exam lasted 15 minutes, she treated me like an inconvenience and her bedside manner was abysmal at best. I had to spend $400 going to a new place to get a new prescription and new lenses to put on the great frames I got at SEE. I just went there today as I've realized this week that my migraines were due to my slowly worsening vision. I have never needed glasses before so I was totally clueless. First of all, they got me right in to see the MD. I'm sure some of that was luck, but still. The doc was very patient answering my (stupid) questions about this unresearched topic. I loved their frames - I found something hip (but not TOO hip) and several members of the store workers helped to weigh in during my selection process - and were just darn right friendly! I also thought their frames were totally reasonably priced - if you go to a regular vision store the frames range from $99 - $1000, so I thought mine were a steal for $199. I used my flex benefits so it feels like it didn't cost anything! I would definitely recommend this place - from the front office to the back, I was happy and impressed. read more

I came into this SEE location, and I was astonished at how friendly the staff are. I had a routine eye exam, and I also had one of the staff assist me in picking out a nice set of frames. The woman who helped me was so kind, considerate and appreciative of my business. In fact, she even gave me a good deal on the last pair of frames which I wanted. Although the price was a tad bit high, the customer service was phenomenal. 1 month ago, I went to SEE on Newbury Street for the first time. I had been meaning to go after a co-worker showed up rocking a pair of green frames and mentioned that she had a great experience at SEE. I agree with the other reviewers that the service here is very good, at least on the initial visit. The gentleman who helped me pick out my new glasses was friendly and frank about what looked good on my face and what did not. My glasses were ready when promised (about a 10-day turnaround). But when I went back in to pick up my glasses, I was quite disappointed. I've been wearing glasses and contacts for over a decade, and the instant I put them on, it was clear that either the prescription was wrong or the lens itself was warped. When I mentioned this to the two hovering salespeople, I was brushed off as "just not used to the new prescription." When I informed them that my prescription had not changed, the attitude turned haughty -- "Well, then, it's because you just took your contacts out. Your eyes need time to adjust." Again, in the 15 years that I have taken my contacts out EVERY NIGHT and put on my glasses, I have never owned a pair that instantly made the room feel tilted or warped. I'm not argumentative, so I took my new (very cute) glasses and left. It's been two weeks and I still have not "adjusted" to the new glasses. I will mention, however, that my FREE pair from Coastal.com is perfect -- prescription is spot-on, without any distortion from the lenses. The lenses are well-seated in the frame (whereas I am afraid the lenses from SEE are going to fall out any second), and the frame itself is well-constructed. With the Groupon I had ($39 for $200 worth of merchandise), I suppose it was worth it, but I will not be going back to SEE for another pair of glasses, nor will I recommend their products to anyone else. Newbury SEE was a positive experience from start to finish, and I tried a bunch of other Copley area places before I settled on SEE. I ended up buying two pairs -- one more funky and one more professional. Joe (together with his sidekicks Rohan and Rob, I believe) was enthusiastic and friendly from the moment I walked in. He listened to what I was looking for and began pulling out responsive frames. He was not afraid to be honest and say what did not look good, but also very flattering when frames worked. Great combo. Rohan and Rob also weighed in between other customers. And they were serving friday afternoon drinks and snacks. The selection was interesting and different from what I saw at other places (though if you are seeking a very conservative look, this is probably NOT the place to go). Price was good. Both pairs were ready in less than a week, even earlier than promised in each case. When I came back for the second pair, Joe pulled them off the shelf without even looking at my profile because he remembered me and what we had discussed. Fit is awesome and they tossed in all kinds of goodies for cleaning lenses. I was dreading this experience and these guys actually made it fun. read more

I bought a pair of sunglasses years ago from this store. They were super, but when I went to pay I almost fainted. I was too shy to say anything, but I never approached the store again. However I was looking for a specific brand that seemed to be carried only at this store in Boston. So I went again, aware of the need of looking at the price first (and this time was printed on the label). I was surprised of the change. They have real cool frames. The kind you find from European brands. And they are 1/3 of the price. The quality is as good. + single sight prescription lenses are included in the price!!! Most of all Rohan is really nice. I feel like I should open with some cheesy pun about how I can clearly "see" that this is the best place to buy glasses...but I hate puns. I do not believe five stars does justice to SEE. I just bought my second pair of classes with them today after having so much success on my last pair that I bought from them a year ago. I walked into their Newbury Street store on a very rainy day, I'll admit, just to stay dry until the rain let up. I pretended like I was interested in making a purchase but didn't have the intention of buying anything. I hate two things in retail...first, when the employees swarm you the second you walk in the door and two, when you feel invisible because no one is helping you. Do I seem high maintenance yet? Just wait...Anyways, the staff at SEE were incredibly friendly and helpful. I told them I was "just looking" and they gave me my distance. Then I started trying pair after pair on. Eventually, I turned to someone and asked for the same shape in a different color. They're knowledge of their stock is incredible. Within minutes they were picking kinds that they figured I might like. I was amazed at how good they were at finding things that I looked good in (I'm EXTREMELY picky about glasses). They talked me into a pretty bold pair of specs and I'll admit, I was a little nervous. During the next year, I couldn't tell you the number of compliments I received on my glasses. I heard "those are a hard shape to pull off but they look great on you" so many times. When I came back into SEE today, the guy who helped me last year remembered me and asked how I was doing in school (which he remembered too). I told him the very specific look I was searching for (Terry Richardson-esk glasses) and he brought me four or five pairs for me to choose from. The store was bustling with lots of customers but I felt like I was the only one. They give you their undivided attention from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave. I eventually narrowed it down to two pairs of glasses. I couldn't decide and by then the store got a little bit quieter so some of the other staff were giving their opinions. All of them agreed on one pair over the other. Just out of curiosity, I checked the prices on the two I had narrowed it down to. They picked the cheaper ones. They hadn't been trying to sell me the most expensive pair as so many optical shops do. They even offered to ship it to my school and give me a student discount. As long as I'm in New England for college, I'm buying my glasses at SEE. Amazing staff, great selection, and oh yeah, the location isn't half bad either. read more

After the last review I posted on SEE, I received a verbal and email apology and the company has gone out of its way to undo my negative experience. Great styles, great prices, and the turnaround (for my pair) was not too bad. Just 1 week. After perusing a few other eyewear shops, this was the only place that had frames funky enough to fit my style. It seemed like they had a wide array of most types of frames, including completely rimless lenses (a la Sarah Palin) to ones like mine (thick, nerdy tortoise shell frames). Love it! The store, the staff and the experience. I bought a Groupon after someone referring me to the store. I of course forgot about the Groupon and went flying into the shop on the last day of the deal all sweaty from the gym and toting my five year old. So I look a mess, have a coupon and kid, the ideal customer, right? It didn't matter. The staff was extremely gracious. Rob was so helpful while I tried on EVERY SINGLE frame. All the styles are very cool so it's hard to decide. In the end I went with something completely different than what I planned at the suggestion of my five year old. Both of us went in to get new glasses. Erika & Alex were so helpful, pleasant, charming, knowledgeable, and fun as soon as we arrived at the store. They helped us choose glasses that we are so happy with. Because they know their frames and how to style we both arrived at a few choices very quickly. They explained our options and checked us out very efficiently. The store became very busy and they were able to handle it all with such an organized, coordinated and calm approach, creating a great atmosphere to shop in. We had returned to this store because we had a good experience before and both of us were able to get excellent, good quality glasses that we really like.
