My friend and I were wandering around, somewhat intent on "just window shopping," when she exclaimed that she just wanted to casually peruse SEE's offerings. Half an hour later, we walk out with a new pair of sweet sunglasses and two pairs of trendy glasses. How did that even happen?! SEE carries a rather vast proprietary assortment of eyeglasses and sunglasses frames. Granted, most are acetate based materials, but the styles and colors are quite varied, with some being made in Italy, some in China. Most of the frames were around $100 each, which I think is quite reasonable given the impressive quality of the materials and construction. My friend ended up picking out two trendy acetate frames, which she had to have mailed to her as she couldn't produce her prescription off hand. I snagged a pair of huge sunglasses - what they have on display may be all they have in stock as the salesperson simply cleaned up the frames I picked before tucking them into a sturdy sunglasses case. This irked me a tiny bit as the frames already have a few superficial scratches on them, but I would have easily paid $250+ for comparable designer sunnies. Based on previous reviews, it seems that SEE has limited production runs of the different styles so I can be rest assured that my sunglasses are at least quite unique. The salespeople/staff were friendly and helpful. They even subtly attempted to steer me into purchasing a second pair of sunglasses but I held on to my resolve. However, now that I'm about to update my eyeglasses prescription, I'm super bummed there's not a SEE in Houston! I think anyone can order off the SEE website, but I like to try on my frames first. Any future travel plans may require checking whether the particular city has a SEE . . . read more

Good frames. Good pricing scheme. Lenses included in frame price. To get my annual benefit for insurance it costs more to use insurance than out of pocket. Beautiful frames. Especially like the limited edition frames. No spring hinges so minus one star. The suggestion that if you buy 5 you get one free kinda indicates that the type of clientele here isn't really me. For my 2017 benefit you'll find me at target optical. But I love the clearish shiny opalescent blue frames. For that I might up my price point for my 2018 FSA use. The doctor is trendy. When you go to SEE to buy glasses, life begins anew. You walk down the steps into this lower level boutique eyeglass store and are greeted by two to three friendly, well dressed, snazzy glasses wearing sales associates. The walls are chock-a-block with the coolest frames you've ever seen. Their selection is phenomenal. I've purchased two pairs of glasses from them over the last four years and have been very pleased. I always get compliments and asked where I purchase my glasses. I gladly tell them, "SEE. It's only in Boston." What sets this boutique store apart from any other store ANYWHERE is that there prices are shockingly reasonable. The price that you see on the tag is for frames and lenses. Prices range from below $200 and up to $300. This is unheard of. You try and get a comparable pair at Lens Crafters or another boutique store and the price is almost double what they charge here. When you look at the prices tags, you can't help but feel contempt for every other "specialty" eye glass shop. My only caution is that you make sure the frames fit your head. The faces and temples of the glasses are often calibrated for the European physiology.... Therefore, if you feel the frame is squeezing your face or the temples don't reach all the way behind the curve of your ear, don't buy them unless the store says they are able to substantially adjust them (e.g. rimless glasses can get larger glass to accommodate the width of your face). I live out of state now, but I plan on returning to this store to buy my next pair of glasses in the future. read more

I picked up a new pair of glasses yesterday. I couldn't believe the prices! I usually try and find unique glasses, but you know, the more unique, the more expensive. Then there is See. Because they make their own frames, they seem to keep the prices down. However, the prices can easily skyrocket once you start adding things like "anti-glare" and progressive lenses to the frames. Service was decent, although, no one really explained to me the costs of the extra options on the lenses. My $189 frames now cost me close to $400 once you factor in tax and stuff like that. What I thought was going to be a deal, wound up being around the same as my other glasses. If I wasn't used to paying that much for glasses, I would have been pissed. read more

This fall I went back to SEE and was very disappointed with the quality of glasses and service. They now have a new management team and there are also changes in the quality of glasses. BEWARE!!! I ordered a pair of specs and ended up taking my glasses back three times. 1) First time: Glasses came ordered with the wrong glass type/not the super high index that I paid $$$ for. 2) Second time: One lens was polished/rolled the other was not. 3) Third time: One lens was put back crooked. Each time the manager - Rohan was apologetic and attempted to make it better...however, shouldn't you check the glasses before giving the glasses to your customers? Also, why is SEE manufacturing poor glasses with DEFECTS!?!! Isn't there quality control?? I complained to corporate....and they took forever to remanufacture my glasses - so I just said - please let's end this and give me my refund. WARNING - if you go to SEE - be sure to closely inspect the quality of your glasses before leaving the store. The people in the actual store maybe friendly, but the quality of glasses delivered are poor. read more

It wasn't a bad breakup--as breakups go, that is. We both tried our best to make things work, and we each appreciated the other for making that effort. In the end, no one was hurt or lost much of anything--other than the time we spent trying to make it work. We parted as friends, though we both know it's unlikely we'll see each other again. At the time of my last review, I had not yet tried the glasses. Unfortunately, I found that, after a trail of a couple weeks, I still could not see well though the glasses. Unlike my old glasses (which I still had), the new ones gave me headaches. At the time of the refraction, I had shown them my former (out-of-date) refractions documenting an astigmatism. The eye doctor insisted I did not have one, so I reluctantly had gone along with her. As it turns out, I think the reason I had to squint through the new glasses was due to the lack of an astigmatism correction. I made an appointment, and the owner/manager personally did a new refraction at no charge. This time, he agreed that I did have an astigmatism. He was quite friendly and reordered the glasses. This time, it took them about three weeks to come in, and he apologized for the lag time. When I went to try on the new glasses, I knew immediately they were not right. Looking through them, the world looked the way it does when you try on the glasses of someone with much poorer vision than you. Once again, the owner/manager encouraged us to try another refraction. At this point, I told him--with no ill will--that I thought it was time we parted ways. He was eager for me to give it another shot, but we both concluded that the problem might be in the type of lens used by See. He was very generous in offering a full refund, and I happily accepted. See is an ex whom I would actually not discourage a friend from dating. read more

Five stars not just because they're not the unbearably rude and cheaply made Warby Parker down the street. But truly excellent in their own right. Friendly and knowledgable staff, mind blowing selection, sensible presentation, unhurried, and they worked with me on the bottom line. Ask for a bribe. Seriously. i have been a big fan of see eyewear for a while. if you need to get glasses and you want them to make a fashion statement - then come here. the glasses are cool - they only sell their own brand - so don't come here looking for some brand name - just look for style. not all glasses scream " i want to be noticed " they also do some very tasteful conservative frames. prices start around ~$139 for complete frames. i've bought three pairs from here over the past few years and i've always gotten great comments on my specs. there's also an in house optometrist if you need a check up as well. read more

Like a lot of recent reviewers, I visited SEE this summer because I bought a Groupon. It was $50 for $200 at the store. Turned out to be a great deal. SEE's prices include the lenses and the frames as well as scratch resistance. The only thing not included in the price was the anti-glare coating. They carry lots of funky and colorful frames (as well as some less loud frames)- just what I've been looking for. I went with a friend who had recently used her Groupon and had it narrowed down to three finalist frames. After reducing to two, I turned to the salesman (the manager?) and he pulled a completely different frame in a beautiful purple color that I decided to buy right away. He's good. The frames cost around $235 (can't remember exactly). So with the anti-glare and then minus the $200 value of the Groupon, I paid around $164. That's a bargain for glasses. I've spent hundreds and hundreds on glasses before. This was the best experience by far. I picked them up 8 days later and they made some fit adjustments and I was on my way! read more

I had a great experience going in See and trying on glasses- the guy who helped me was really nice, and their frames were sick. However, I had a pretty nightmarish time between then and the two weeks it took me to get my glasses. I feel a little unfair telling the whole story in this review, though. Let's just say this: "mistakes were made." BUT,when I complained to customer service, they were very helpful and thoroughly investigated what happened. was given a nice big discount off of my glasses. They sorted things out so well that I'm pretty convinced that what happened to me was a freak accident. And I really, really like these glasses. 4 stars. read more

The Doctor: she wasn't too talkative. Basically she just wants you in and out. I was there for an exam and she barely said anything throughout the process. She didn't even ask for my medical history! You can try asking her questions but she won't be too responsive... She was pretty much clueless about how my insurance worked and tried to charge me $99 at first - then I spoke up and told them to call and make sure that's what it is. They did and then tried to charge me $33. I bitched again and told them it's supposed to be just co-pay and finally she was like "whatever, I'll take it." =/ The selection of glasses were great. The salepeople there was very nice and friendly - not pushy at all! Too bad they were inexperienced; I said that I was looking for chrome frames and they just went out and got me all the chrome they can find so I ended up trying on about 30 pairs of glasses... Price is very reasonable. The average pair of glasses in there are $249 - $289 and that included the lens too. You're not gonna have to pay much outta pocket for a pair of glasses here. For price, they get 4 stars, 2 stars for the doctor, and 3 star for the sales. Conclusion = 3 stars. read more

This is hands down my favorite eyeglasses shop ever. The frames range from standard (but nice standard) to really trendy. I was able to find a frame that fit my face, my personality, AND my budget! The service is superb. Once, that silly Harry Potter VI book fell on top of my glasses, busting the hinge. I was distraught!! Tim fixed it in a jiffy, free of charge. I had a great experience at SEE. I needed new glasses, and hadn't had my eyes checked in years. Like, six years. Dr. Baron was great. I arrived a little early, and she took me right away. She was friendly and helpful. She was efficient, and explained everything that was happening. She wrote my script and sent me to work with an associate to help me find a new pair of glasses. Rohan was awesome. He worked with me for over half an hour to try on almost every frame in the store to find the right one. He was honest about what looked good and what didn't, so I felt like I could trust his recommendations. He was patient while I tried to decide between two options. I chose a great pair, and should have them in a few days. It was a fun and painless experience! The glasses weren't cheap, but they weren't any more expensive than other places I've researched. Lots nice styles and the prices are really good given how stylish they are. I gotta give credit where it's due. Consultants are nice and friendly however have a very passive aggressive business style. Very nice, gain trust, then extreme assertion to pull you in. The guy who helped me (Paul) seemed very hungry for my money later on and was constantly pushing and pushing me with the process to make me go ahead. I left the store because i didn't have a prescription yet but also because I felt very suffocated. 2 months later I have my prescription and back to looking for some new frames at a new SEE that opened up in Harvard Square. I decide on a nice pair of frames and go ahead into the process of purchasing them but then it was brought to my attention that my eye insurance was not covering for the frames. I questioned why and the consultant did not know why and also pushed me as well to keep going through with the process even though my insurance was not going to cover it. I asked for my prescription back and the consultant continued to give me a hard time and said things like "I can hold your prescription here for you". SEE consultants come on too strong. I go home and call the insurance company and they tell me that the reason why my frames and lenses were not being covered was because I had a block on my account basically saying that I had used my benefits already. However I had not used my benefits at all and don't have any frames because I didn't have a prescription yet. The insurance company traced the block back to SEE Incorporated on Newbury st., Boston, MA. Hearing this I was not too surprised, especially with how shiesty that consultant (Paul) was acting. I know a lot of people have been hyping him up as a cool dude and stuff and I must look like the bad guy now but he was the only one handling business with me that day meaning that he must have been the one who put the block on my insurance preventing me from going anywhere else. He is nice but must be dammm hungry cause he was trying to hustle so hard and just came on way too strong for me. I remember telling him about these comments on Yelp and he said he has never heard of Yelp yet in SEE stores there are flyers everywhere telling you to go on Yelp and rate them. So that's what I'm doing, I'm writing them right now. Better watch out cause that dude's "kindness" is deadly. Also make sure you are ready to commit before signing that little slip they ask you to sign. Reading it carefully it basically says that once you sign it, they can just go ahead with whatever unless you revoke the consent but whatever has been done is consider done and you can revert it. read more

Never found out what was behind the insurance issue, but apparently their computer system is unreliable at times according to one of the managers. I wound up going to the Harvard Sq. branch after SEE HQ contacted me (feel free to look at my review of that location). My only other interaction with this store was Paul noticing that the lab didn't make the glasses right and sending them back, before I even got to look at them--which is a good thing. Some other opticians won't even check for problems before the customer arrives for pick-up and others will try to pass off lab mistakes in hopes that the customer won't notice, or when they do, can be convinced that it doesn't matter. So Paul's ability to spot out problems and take them seriously adds a few stars. read more

I walked in to get a routine contact exam with Dr. Baron, and so I was a bit surprised to leave with two pairs of glasses that I love. The reason: the people there have an uncanny knack for picking a very good frame for your face on the first grab. There was no pondering and no deep thinking necessary. If there is such a thing as eyeglass bootcamp over at corporate, these people have been through it. It takes them a few seconds to pick an "appropriate" frame, and if you want to take more time and get something unique or edgy, they have those as well. I'm a west coast transplant, and noticed that sunglass styles out here run a bit larger. I've wondered why, until getting a pair at SEE. I got a slightly larger pair of aviators with real wood earpieces and polarized lenses. Walking out of the store into the cold air, I noticed that oversized lens protects from the icy gusts, so eyes don't water. I noticed that many frames were extremely lightweight, using titanium or other materials to prevent nose pads from forming semi-permanent indentations. The routine contact lens exam with Dr. Baron was great, and put me in a good mood. When done, I was surprised that the manager (Rohan) will price match with the major online contact lenses stores (e.g.1- 800 contacts), which is a smart move since a convenient location doesn't matter once you have a contact lens prescription. read more

I would totally recommend SEE Eyewear to anyone looking for a new, fun pair of frames! I was allowed to freely look at the frames without feeling overly watched, but help was always readily available (I tend to leave places if the staff is overly "helpful"). Once I made it clear that I would like some more help with the choices, Melanie was able to pick out a few frames that met my criteria and help with my decision process. There was a little bit of confusion initially with my price quoting on my chosen frames/lenses. I was given a ridiculously high quote ($400ish), but when I followed up with Melanie, she was able to see that the insurance numbers were put into the computer wrong and in the end I got the price that I was expecting (just under $200). She took extra time to figure the situation out and in the end, made a sale! I am very glad that I decided to ask twice about the initial quote because honestly, if I left the store thinking that the glasses were $400+ I never would have purchased them. I got them delivered to my home in about 1 week and I totally LOVE them!!! I have had to have them fitted at a local optician (which is a free service of opticians). Overall, awesome selection of fun, funky and interesting frames at decent prices (especially if you DON'T have insurance and pay out of pocket). The staff is VERY helpful and quite nice! If you happen to get a crazy price quote, ask twice and maybe something was just entered wrong...people make mistakes... read more

Fantastic experience! Have never worn eyeglasses before, but I am getting old (46, ugh!) and was having a hard time reading menus with small print in dark restaurants. Walked in one Weds afternoon and they hooked me right up. The doctor was in and could see me right away and the session was covered by my Blue Cross insurance. In less than a half our she determined that I could use reading glasses and sent me out to see one of their sales associates. The oh-so lovely Megan spent a good 20-30 minutes with me suggesting frames and helping me narrow down to first six choices, then two and then the winner, a very cool greenish pair with some carbon fiber. A few more minutes to get them ordered and I was on my way home. Less than 48 hours later I got a call that my glasses were ready to pick up, so five minutes later I was in the store putting them on, and guess what? When I went out for dinner that night and was handed the menu at the bar, I could actually READ the menu!!! The whole experience was top notch and I would highly recommend SEE Eyewear to anyone that wanted a cool pair of glasses from a store that knows what they are doing!!! read more

The kind of experience when you aren't expecting to make a purchase (at all, seriously!), but then meet a bunch of fabulous employees with honesty & such sexy pairs of specks that make you so jealous that you have no choice but to keep up. Alex really helped me out when casually browsing. She was never pushy or price-tag focused, we went for the styles that really suited my look and attitude. I walked out with an up-to-date eye exam (LOVE the new optometrist there, great man), sparkly black cat eye glasses and an absurdly awesome pair of green and black cheetah catty frames. I bought glasses at See almost 7 years ago (which was when I bought my last pair of glasses), and eagerly returned this weekend to find my next pair. I had just seen a Groupon the night before: $39 for $200 worth of prescription lenses. Knowing the quality of the glasses and my great experience last time, this was the push I needed to head to the store. The staff at the Newbury location were wonderful. I realize I was shopping in the middle of a Monday, but I got so much attention and suggestions, and even when I insisted on getting a second opinion via FaceTime, the staff even offered to hold up my phone to get the best shot! I worked with two of the clerks there, and from start to finish, so personal. there were 3-4 other people in the store and 3 staff members, so it was a great ratio. I must have tried on almost every pair in search of the perfect fit, and no one stopped me. In the end, they make it really easy to purchase. They are super flexible - allowed me to snap a photo of my prescription later that evening and email it to them since I had left it at home that day, made recommendations on glare protection, and are even shipping it to the Harvard Square location for pickup! Great selection, ranging from trendy to classic styles, and great service - why would I go anywhere else? read more

Their service was great! From the moment i entered the store, they deliberately helped me with eyewear selections. Alexandria was able to give me advice on which pair of glasses looked best on me. I found this really helpful as I was not too familiar with glasses and she was able to choose the one I really liked as well. The price is reasonable as the prescription fees are already included in the glasses. Although mine was a bit expensive at around $400, I was satisfied.
