He doesn't take insurance but the price is always right 2 for the price of one you can't beat that and you can use your flex spending. He can make your glasses there and they'll be ready in a couple of hours. If he doesn't have your lens he will order them and will be there in no time at all. I just bought my first pair of glasses with progressives, yes we will all get there some time in our lives lol. I am doing this review a year after buying my glasses here. Good customer attention and helpful in the selection of frames. Frames variety was good but nothing extraordinary. The quality of the lenses was very poor. Probably, this is why they can offer 2x1. I had to have the lenses made twice (the first time I could not use them apparently because they were not fit the prescription). The second time around were not perfect but I had already gone too many times to their shop and decided to cut my looses short. A year later, the lenses are ruined, totally scratched, impossible to use. This "extreme" scratching is the first time it happens to me. I use my glasses constantly; i.e., I do not take them out; therefore, there are few chances to damage the lens surface. People tells me that the lens were just plain cheap. Went into 241 on the recommendation of a friend of which I was initially pleased. Made my selections for their 2 for one deal . The deal wasnt as great though, $600 for progressive lenses. Got them back pretty quickly about 4-5 business days. Loved the shape and color. 6 months later the arm of the frame broke off when a toddler arm colided with them. Went in to see if there was any way to repair them and the owner gave me new frames for $80 . Low and behold 4 weeks later the hinge got hit again and the arm broke off once more. Knowing the real price of the frames and they're completly made of plastic guess I wasnt surprised. Went in and spoke with the owner(sister) again. She replaced them for free! I was amazed. She did the exchange quickly and with a chilly attitude giving the glass a cursory swipe and back into the case. I took them out saying they might need adjusting and she quickly said no they wouldn't. Here is the part even I find hard to believe. She must of been pretty resentful she had to replace the frame because what she buffed the lenses with must of been brillo ! There are circular scratches on the inside and outside of both lenses ruining them. I'm obsessive about keeping them clean and scratch free using only a leather shammy to clean them. Learning my lesson that polymer lenses scratch super easy .Not realizing what had happened till the next day was horrified to see the degree of scratching on both lenses. Guess she figured I'd come in to replace them? So confused and angry feeling there was no way she would admit doing it. My only recourse this review. UPDATE: 9/27/16 Yulia (owner) surprised me with a call having seen my review here. At first she was open and willing to do "ANYTHING" to resolve the situation. The conversation albeit uncomfortable I did managed to powered through her abject lament over her reputation. Asking her to please let me speak I expressed that I had no other choice than to believe she did it as the glasses were so scratched they were ruined. Why would I bring them in to be fixed if I couldnt see out of them! While she repeatedly reverted to her rant over her reputation I did manage to agree to come back in and see what we could do. The following day I went in . Not sure why Yulia asked me to come in because all she did was continue her lament over her "reputation". My past several experiences ordering glasses have been unpleasant, expensive, or some combination of the two. Luckily, I had an A-HA! moment and decided to try YELP to find a new business from which to purchase my glasses. Enter 241. I work in Harvard Square and the last pair of glasses I purchased cost about $750. Granted, they were a very high-end brand name, but still, that's a lot o' cash. At 241, I purchased two pairs for $360, including paying extra for anti-glare and high index lenses. What a deal! When I walked in, I was greeted by an extremely pleasant person, who was helpful, but did not pressure me. I thought the selection of glasses was certainly adequate, and was able to find four pairs that I liked, which I narrowed down to two. I should note that my coworker came with me, and she, similarly impressed, also ordered two pairs of glasses. My glasses were ready two days later and they are beautiful. Note that most glasses at 241 are ready within hours, but they did not have my lenses in stock at the time (I have a very strong prescription!). I couldn't be happier with this experience. I've been coming to 241 for years now and they are just plain wonderful. Their selection is modest, but their glasses range from uber-hip modern style things to elegant, minimalist frames (my personal preference) and they're more than happy and able to help you select the right frames with gentle suggestions, rather than pushy salesmanship. I've always been happy with them, but a recent experience pushed them over into amazing territory. I got a pair of frames that seemed good in the store, but since I have to stick my face real close to the mirror when trying them on, it's difficult to see how they really look, so long story short, they were fine in the store, but once I got them home I really didn't like them (Life lesson: Shop for new glasses with your bestie, not your boyfriend). I had to return anyway to pick up my sunglasses, so I asked them about their return policy. Now, technically they don't *have* a return policy, because their glasses are all custom-made, etc etc, but they were SO nice about it. They did take them back and I picked out a new pair that are absolutely PERFECT for me. The sunglasses I got are great too, the tinting is perfect and having sunglasses for the first time ever has pretty much changed my life. 5 star customer service!! 5 star price!! As I walked I was promptly greeted by one of the store owners, Michael. Michael was very friendly, gave out some good suggestions and pointers. You'll find a no-pressure sales enivornment unlike going to car dealership. After you selected your frames, he'll begin to evaluate the measurements of your face, nose, etc as you sit down. A good thing to bring with you is prescription slip to get the best results for lenses. All the frames are made in Japan and the lenses mainly Japanese or German. Depending on what frames you get and the prescription strength, there's a chance that you might get it on the same day or a couple days later. Once you receive your glasses, Michael will do one more evaluation for the correct fit and make adjustments from there. The overall experience I received here was beyond my expectations. I came to 241 Optical because I'd never had a "fancy" (aka expensive) pair of glasses before, and the reviews here were so glowing. Yulia was as great and intuitive as everyone says she is - she picked out frames that I would never have guessed would look good, but lo and behold, they did (and do)! The 2-for-1 deal worked as anticipated. I ended up paying around $300, I believe, for two pairs of glasses and anti-glare treatment ($60 a pair, I think). My glasses have held up great for 10 months now. The eyeglass frame selection - 5 stars As a lifelong Lenscrafters customer, stepping into 2-for-1 was like entering a brave new world. Who knew glasses could look this good?!?! The prices - 4 stars I like the two-for-one aspect of the deal. Of course, by the time you get duped (oops, I mean convinced) into getting the extra special non-glare lenses, you'll end up paying a little more than you wanted to have paid. But all in all, you're still getting a bargain to be able to create two different looks in your frames! A great little shop in Harvard Square that carries a decent (but not overwhelming) selection of nice frames. I went in on a Monday morning and had glasses picked out in about 10 minutes. They were ready the same day. As the name implies, you get two frames for the price of one. I stupidly assumed this meant two identical pairs. Nope! You can get two completely different frames as part of the deal. Michael, the gentleman who helped me out, was very personable and to the point. He also used some cool device to shape the temples that looked like a box filled with diamonds. I never thought anything would top my glasses buying experience at Eye Q Optical in the south end, which was wonderful, but 241 Optical edges them out. See your way there! read more

What a good experience! I am fussy when it comes to eyeglasses, and I have a hard time making up my mind. The owner here was extremely friendly, patient and helpful. Extremely low-pressure too - in fact he tried to talk me into a much less expensive pair of glasses than the ones I had initially wanted. Prices were very reasonable (I ended up paying about $350 for two exceptional pairs of glasses with anti-glare coating) The selection here is smaller than some places, and the brands are Japanese designers that I hadn't heard of - but the frames seem very solid and there are some really cool designs - it was very difficult to choose two because there were so many good ones. I don't think it gets much better than this! I'm pretty blind, so regular lenses aren't an option for me, and 241 Optical did charge me a little extra for the strong prescription, but nothing near what I've paid in the past. They have a great selection of frames and service is top quality. As an aside, I wear contacts everyday, so my glasses don't get heavy wear. Because of this, I can't really speak to durability, but I've had no problems. Just remember to bring your prescription with you when you go. read more

I was always disappointed with the frames my optometrist carries and I was always overwhelmed by the price and gaudiness of some of the designer shops when looking for frames. I checked Yelp! to see if there were any other shops around the area I should check out and landed on 241. I was able to walk out of there with a pair of primary glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses at the end of the day, spend only around $300, and be very pleased for months to come. I do love the two for one deal, but I think what draws me to this place is that they have a very simple shop full of awesome frames. The frames are all stylish, but not too crazy to the point where you can't ever find a time and place to wear them. These are mostly everyday types of glasses of all shapes and sizes. I had a wonderful experience at 241 - their frames are very stylish and you even get to pick out two, like it says on the tin. They were even ready the next day (I went in the evening or it might have been same day). I'd thought they said they would be ready at 2, but when I arrived I found they had said 6 (I was almost certainly the one who was wrong); but he (Michael?) said he would do them for 3:00, and called me 45 minutes later to say they were ready. Wow! Remember, though, THEY DON'T DO EYE EXAMS, you have to bring your prescription. I'd say it's worth the time to come here for your frames instead of getting them at your optometrist! For those of you who are as blind as I am, this is an amazing find! I love having more than one pair of glasses to choose from, and you'll be able to expand your selection without depleting your wallet at 241. This is a small eyeglasses shop right in Harvard Square that's run by a Russian brother and sister, who are just wonderful. They are so kind, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Yulia is especially good at picking frames that will work well for your face. Though the frames aren't name brand, they're still of good quality, there's a really solid selection of plastic and metal frames, and the price is extremely reasonable...especially since you get 2-4-1, yes, two pairs of glasses for the price of one. And since the lenses are made in-house, you can usually pick up your glasses on the same day you ordered them. They also do tinted lenses for any of the frames, so you can also get prescription sunglasses. They also do the usual super-thin plastic for high prescriptions, and anti-glare coating. Do have your prescription from the optometrist when you go in. Great place to use your flex spending account. I highly, highly, highly recommend this place! read more

Stumbled upon 241 on a trip to Cambridge / Boston earlier this past summer. I had been putting off getting new sunglasses and as we were passing the shop my girlfriend convinced me to stop in and check out the selection. The owner was helping some customers but immediately welcomed us in. They had a ton of options that didn't consist of the same old brands you find in every other shop. They'll tell you that it's easy to get reimbursement but unlike all the others in Harvard square, won't do the paperwork for you. I also like how the lense options are simple and not overwhelming. I know that other stores probably offer a broader spectrum of lenses, but I prefer simple. The 241 deal is also great!
