I cannot understate how much Paul helped me out this afternoon. I was in town for work and completely forgot my contacts at home. I am incredibly blind without them and was pretty worried as it was getting late. Right when I called Paul immediately tried to help any way he could. I sent him my prescription and he was able to provide me with some contacts that really came in clutch. The customer service here is unmatched. read more

If I could give Spectacle a six stars I would! From the moment we walked in the experience was great. Paul really knows what he is doing and is an expert at finding frames that are right for your face. Paul's personality and positivity made the drive in from the south shore well worth the trip. My glasses were ready when promised and the quality of the work was perfect. Do yourself a favor and shop Spectacle for your next glasses purchase, you won't regret it! read more

Amazing experience with the colorful musician owner whose helps you find glasses that work with your face and budget. Really cool Vibe and love the location. Glasses came in as expected and fit to face. Highly recommend!!! read more

My 4-5 month old frames (from another shop out of town) broke on me this morning so I made my way here based on reviews. Unfortunately, the problem wasn't immediately fixable in-shop, but Paul was upfront with me, descriptive, & very friendly. I appreciated how he gave me info about where it broke & tips on how I could go about getting it fixed. As a passerby, they made an excellent impression. :) read more

Went in with high expectations and came out wholly satisfied and with mad respect for Paul. He recommended many different styles and was very responsive to my needs. Heck, he even fixed the arms on my old one in the time it took me to look around at a few pairs because I complained about it being too tight. Great value too considering no insurance was involved. Coming from a person who doesn't like small talk and thus avoids it if possible, Paul tries hard to make you comfortable and his policy on returns means he really wants you to love the spectacles you get here. 10/10 would shop again. read more

Five stars! My designer sunglasses- the hinge was broken and hanging on by a thread. Owner knew what to do right away- fixed them quickly, made them feel more secure and even gave me a new case because the one i had was not suitable for the shades. I am so thankful I found this place and highly recommend you come here for your sunglass and eyewear needs. I will definitely be back!! The owner was also very friendly , nice and funny. :) read more

I broke my glasses and thought I was going need to buy an entirely new pair. Paul was able to fix them within 5 minutes and adjusted them to fit me better than even before. And he didn't even charge us. He always gave a lot of great advice on how to care for your glasses. Absolutely recommend stopping by. Thanks Paul!!! read more

Paul is the best! I live in Arlington but I always go to him when I need a new pair of fun glasses. He is so clued in to his customers, he practically has a pair of glasses picked out for you before you walk in the door. Immense patience, one time he had me try on practically all the frames in the shop until I found the perfect pair. And he does repairs too! What more could you ask for. Also, every Christmas my husband and I get him to take our photo for our Christmas card. We have the BEST Christmas cards! read more

I have bought two pair of glasses from Spectacle and it is a great place to shop. Paul goes out of his way to accommodate you. Without reservation I would recommend this store for eye glasses. read more

Cannot recommend Spectacle and Paul highly enough!!!! I happened upon Spectacle doing a lil google search and decided to try them out after being quoted $500+ at LensCrafters. I'm converted for life. I stopped by on my birthday, and Paul took so much time to find the perfect pair of glasses for my personality and face shape. I ended up getting a gorgeous pair of round glasses. I have a strong prescription (-6.00 in both eyes), so I upgraded to thin lenses, and paid only $250!! Paul even offered a groupon discount even though I didn't have one. I've returned twice now for adjustment and just to say hi because Paul is one of the coolest folks ever. He taught me proper eyeglass care technique so I can keep these babies going strong for a long time. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 1 is because the owner is a very nice guy and it's good to support local business. My sunglasses were completely wrong from what I had paid for; and no, I don't believe a measure of a business is how fast or well you can correct a problem -- if you can't sell a pair of glasses without them missing a piece, something's very wrong to begin with. read more

I was desperate for help picking out new frames for my glasses and Paul is AMAZING! I called in the morning to confirm if an appointment was required and Paul was a pleasure over the phone letting me know to come on in-no appointment needed. When I arrived, Paul already had a few ideas for frames (man does his homework); I ended up going with the initial pair Paul suggested based on style and complete visibility without obstruction. Can't recommend Spectacle enough for the inviting atmosphere, professionalism and quality. read more

Paul is THE sweetest person ever! The customer service at Spectacle is AMAZING. He spends so much time to guide you to find the right glasses or to answer any question that you might have. Honestly, I haven't seen any other optical store offering the generous services Paul does for his clients. I've been going to spectacle for a few years now and it's always a pleasant experience! read more

I discovered Spectacle on Instagram 2 years. Intrigued, I followed the creative and edgy call into this gem of a small boutique in the South End. Paul Fox's exuberance and knowledge assisted me in creating my brand. I went from looking like the 2018 version of my Dad's 1979s frame to receiving compliments at work, at events and even the subway. Paul knows his stuff and is fun to be around. Recently, he recommended chic frames that gave my boyfriend a youthful glow. Can't encourage people enough to go with this small business owner for 5-Star Service and results. read more

I'm so bad at choosing glasses for myself. I just really want someone else to tell me what they think looks good and work together with me to find a pair that looks like me. That pretty Much describes Paul to a tee. He has a great sense of style and, true to form, I bought the first or second pair he suggested for me. Come for the style and fit, stay for the service and reasonable prices. You won't be disappointed! read more

I'm about 10 years and eight pairs of glasses in with Paul and he always makes the experience of getting a new pair of glasses fun! He can look at your face, assess your style and you're walking out looking great! His prices are so reasonable that the second pair doesn't hurt the wallet either. Without a doubt, I'm stopped and told by strangers how great my glasses look, that never happened when I used to try and figure out what was a good frame for my face. Treat yourself and go to Spectacle for your next pair of glasses. You'll be so glad you did! read more

Searched high and low for a more personal and custom shoppe to replace computer-reading frames. Out of the four eyewear places I looked at, Paul/Spectacle, was the only responsive and proactive candidate--and this was on the initial phone call. When I got to the shop, he helped me find an ideal frames (the ones I had, were discontinued). Three days ago, I picked up my glasses, and he adjusted the fit perfectly. Snug, but without undue pressure on the temples. And I can see the computer screen without compensating my posture. I can't say how happy I am with my new glasses, the fit, the price and Paul's customer service. read more

Paul is in a class of his own. A testament of one who combines passion with purpose, and Spectacle Eyewear is his contribution to Boston and the world. His customer service is impeccable and his attention to detail is evident from the cleanliness of his shop, to the cool rhythms flowing through his record player, to, finally and most importantly, the quality of opinion, service, and gratitude given to each customer. If you're looking for a guy who can get you in a pair of frames that brings out your very best, then Spectacle is the place for you. Once you're walking the streets with your fresh new look, Paul's commitment to keeping you looking right through his no-cost in-person adjustments keeps the relationship alive. Spectacle is the 14th optical shop I've been to in 3 weeks. I had lost all hope in finding a pair of frames I'll love. Paul is a magician. Not only he talked me out of the ones that weren't flattering, he found me several frames that I actually liked and one I fell in love with. I had hated every single frame I tried on before I walked into Spectacle. I used to hate wearing glasses but now I can't wait to wear my new pair, thanks to Paul! And you can't beat the prices for the quality he's offering. So if you're a picky customer like me, start with Spectacle and save yourself a lot of time and heartache! read more

Paul is the best. After years of not having a pair of up-to-date specs due to lack of inspiration and option overload, I am happy to say I can finally see. When I would complain about not having a new pair of glasses, all of my friends would encourage me to visit trendy chains they all loved (SEE, Warby Parker...), and after a few unsuccessful trips, I gave up. I'm just not that target audience member. Because when it comes to glasses, I want 3 things: 1) They must be affordable (I'm as blind as a bat and these shops overcharge you to death on thinning the lenses) 2) I want a pair no one else has. 3) I need to support a local business (no name brands, nothing made in China on the web, nothing that's a chain). Spectacle fulfills all of those needs and then some. Not only is Paul the nicest shop owner in the South End, but he is like having a personal glasses shopper. His mission is to find a pair of glasses that looks good on your face. Period. He guides you through the entire process, and provides endless pairs to try on for your new purchase. After 2 visits (I'm picky, I swear) I finally found a pair that I simply adore. They were SO affordable compared to every other store I visited and he even goes as far as to tell you to keep them for a month and if you don't like them bring them back! He knows what he's doing. If you're searching for a beautiful pair of glasses and you want to support a small business owner, look no further. But I must warn you, you'll want a second (or third) pair. read more

Great local business in Boston for us four-eyed folks. I normally wear contact lenses but like to keep a pair of glasses at the ready for nighttime wear or on days where I can't be bothered to pop those lenses into my eyeballs. My Warby's were showing signs of advance age so on a recommendation from a friend, I visited Spectacle to browse their selection. This boutique shop specializes in non-brand but still fashionable frames in a wide array of styles from the safe and conservative to the truly out there and eclectic. The owner, Paul was goodnatured and very friendly but not pushy at all. He gave me some of his recommendations at the onset but mostly let me browse and try on frames at my leisure. I ended up going with a nice silver matte pair that is so weightless it's amazing. Total cost was $249. Not bad at all considering you pay more than twice that for designer frames. Yes, they're a bit pricier than Warby but I feel the quality was better and plus, I like to support a non-chain small biz. Turnaround time was only a week so no complaints on the wait time for my new specs. They offer complimentary adjustments so that's a nice touch especially since I'm local and can get back easily. I'd definitely recommend anyone who is in the market for new glasses to check this place out. They're not open on Sundays or Mondays so keep that in mind. read more

The owner Paul offers fantastic personal customer service. I bought a pair glasses there more than four years ago, and he still recollected that I was a previous customer. He has a good eye and will assist you in picking out frames. He offers a great selection of high quality frames. The glasses I bought there have held up well. Paul is more than accommodating if you need any adjustment to your frames. Highly recommended! read more

Everything is fine while you are shopping for glasses. When you pick up your glasses and something is wrong...you'll see who you are dealing with. The owner is greedy, and again, you'll see that afterward. When first time shopping for glasses, the owner was super funny and polite, he would open the door for his customers. While looking for frames, there was a lady there that came in as after purchasing her glasses, after few days something had to be fixed. It as her 2nd or 3rd time that she had to come back, her face was showing dissatisfaction. I wish I took that as a warning side for whats to come. Note: you can't get the refund for your glasses or frames once they are purchased even tho it's owner's mistake of how he unprofessionally did your lenses. read more

Paul is a glasses guru! This is my 3rd pair from Spectacle, and each time I end up getting the 1st pair that Paul has suggested I try on. My boyfriend liked my glasses so much that he went in for glasses himself, and Paul helped him find a pair that look so great on him! Paul always invites customers to come back in for adjustments, and we will stop in often -- not that we need to, but to enjoy Paul's company and for a dance party! Do yourself a favor & don't go to a big-box store, and just go to Spectacle. The service and the quality of the glasses & frames -- and the value -- seriously can't be beat. read more

Over 100 five star reviews don't lie! Paul is charismatic, fashionable (with great taste in music I might add!) and has a true eye for what looks good on people. This was my fastest and best shopping experience for glasses! And like he says on the site - the frames only LOOK expensive. They are actually very very reasonable. And if you're unhappy he offers an exchange within 60 days. read more

I needed to have the arm of my Warby Parker glasses reattached during Covid. I reached out to Spectacle and Paul replied and told me to come by the next day - no appointment required. Impressive frames! I bought mine about a year ago. The other day while rushing to get ready for work, I accidentally dropped them and kicked them across the hardwood floor. I picked them up and prepared for the worst, but was surprised that there was not a scratch on them, either the frame or the lenses. My first thoughts: "What magic is this??" and "Wow I need to write a good review for Spectacle". It was worth every penny! read more

So many good things to say about this place. Great selection of frames, from simple and understated to really funky and everything in between. As others here have said, the owner, Paul, is truly delightful. Super knowledgable and has a great eye -- the first pair of frames he suggested for me was the one I ended up buying. Couldn't have asked for a better price, either -- I legit paid around half of what I was expecting to pay for progressives. Was so pleased with the selection and service that I went back to buy sunglasses. Paul is super accommodating and goes out of his way to give a really superior customer experience. I recommend Spectacle very highly. read more

I wore the same type of wire rimmed glasses, in slightly different iterations, for the last 20 years. For the last ten years, I have been trying to break out of the mold, but hadn't found a pair of glasses that I liked enough to switch. This time around I was determined to switch my style. I went to the shop where my eye doctor is. I found a really nice pair of wire rims, but I held my ground and did not get them. I went to all of the major chains, and couldn't find anything to fit my smallish face. Finally I ended up at Paul Fox's optical shop in the South End. Paul was a co-owner of Eye-Q Optical has started a new optical shop at the site of the former Eye-Q South End location. I actually had fun picking out glasses!!! Paul picked out about ten pairs of glasses for me to try on. He took pictures of me in the two I liked best for me to text to my friends and asked if I wanted to take them home for a few days to help me decide. Before I left, he even cleaned and adjusted my old glasses for me. The glasses I picked out are perfect. They are a big departure from the wire rims I typically have worn, but they fit my face and style and I feel completely natural in them. I have gotten many compliments on them. The prices were comparable to elsewhere. The service far surpassed anywhere I have been for glasses before. Update: About a year ago I needed new glasses and visited Spectacle again. Same great experience, quality, and service. I purchased regular glasses and sunglasses. I've received many compliments on both, but the best thing about the glasses is I feel like they really suit me and I feel very comfortable in them. read more

I have been on the hunt for the perfect frame. I was in boston and passed spectacle, peeked in the window and saw amazing choices. I messaged them on instagram and chatted with Paul (i believe) He assisted me in finding the perfect frame from a far (I do not live in boston) He worked with me to ship a few pairs for me to try on. The choices were awesome and I ended up picking a beautiful, unique white frame. He was extremely responsive and helpful. I highly reccomend Spectacle! read more

A must for glasses wearers in Boston--Paul at Spectacle Eyeware is fantastic. The customer service is remarkable, Paul is very good at helping you to pick out a pair of glasses that look good, and best of all his glasses are logo-free so you don't have to wear a brand. Very, very happy with my experience. read more

This has to be the best eyewear shop I have ever been to--and that is not an exaggeration. It was not the glasses I walked out with or the fact that they had Sade playing when I came in (maybe a mixture of both). I could make an exhaustive list of why I love it but I'll just point a few things out. 1) They have a wonderful selection. For the first time in my life, I found a simple pair of black thin framed glasses that did not have a D&G or diamonds all over the legs. The glasses are also reasonably priced and they do have great offers. 2) The decor is lovely and I felt very comfortable. The owner was helpful but was not persistent. He was patient, sweet, and honest! 3) I did not have my prescription but he was able to put an order in simply by reading my lenses. They were ready in about 4 days and they fit perfectly. 4) They send you wonderful coupons and a gift card after you visit them. I was waiting around 15 minutes one time during store hours and he was very apologetic (even sent me another coupon in the mail)! I would absolutely recommend Spectacle. I am so happy I stumbled upon them and will definitely return in the future! read more

Reasons to go to spectacle: 1. Tons of cute frames! 2. Bargain prices. I paid $220 for my frames and lenses total. My husband paid twice that at another shop in town! 3. Support a local small business! Paul is the owner and only employee of his business. It's a pleasure knowing that my money goes to support a great local guy and his family rather than the CEO of a chain. 4. Excellent customer service! 5. Convenient South End location. Really, there are no downsides, and we'll be coming back for all our future frames! read more

Paul is awesome. So friendly and so helpful! I had a fantastic experience at Spectacle. I bought the Living Social deal here back in late January and when I realized it was going to expire I decided to cash it in. I called to make an appointment but was told to just drop in if I didn't need an exam. When I went in Paul greeted me right away. He was finishing up with another customer but took a long look at me and handed me two sets of frames to try on while I waited. Both were fantastic! The other customer told him to help me so Paul grabbed a few more pairs and he and the other customer weighed in. I started with 6 pairs of frames and liked all of them! I was shopping alone and was going to send pics to a friend for her to weigh in. Paul called out to me not to take selfies, he would take the pics for me! This lead to a mini-photo shoot. Paul said he did this all the time and people often used his pics for their profile pic on facebook (spoiler alert! I did! And not even the pic of the glasses I chose!) I sent the pics to my friend and Paul chatted with me while we waited for her response. A few minutes later my friends had reached a consensus and when I tried that pair on, Paul and I agreed they were right. This whole experience was awesome! The deal made the glasses affordable since as a grad student I do not have vision insurance. Paul is hilarious and so knowledgeable about glasses and frames. Spectacle has so many frames and I was happy to not have to pick any out myself! To top it all off, after I paid for the glasses, Paul adjusted and cleaned the $10 sunglasses I wore in! My glasses came in a week later and I had another pleasant visit with Paul. I love my new glasses! As long as I am in Boston, this is the only place I will come for glasses! read more
