Like others have noted, this place went downhill ? 6 years ago when the management changed. I still appreciate the exams I receive from Dr Ding, but it is now a terrible place to buy glasses. They sent the progressive lenses out, and did not complete the order that I had purchased: [no border frame color]. In addition, they assured me that the Silhouette lenses would be identical to the ones I purchased elsewhere, but the new lenses did not have the same coatings. Finally, when I picked the new glasses up, the woman who did the adjustment bent the frames unevenly. She obviously did not know what she was doing. I needed to go to a different optometry shop to get them fixed. I will never buy glasses from this shop again. read more

This used to be a great place. Used to just go to hang out Rich and his wife Erin. I bought many many pairs of glasses there . I went back a week ago for eye exam and with new prescriptons, get new glasses. They have redone the store entirely with new magagement and staff. Rich and Erin were gone. It is very impersonnal and too clean looking for my taste. Not as many choice of frame. But the worse was how their new employe treated us. Dont know her name but she is small with big glasses. In my interraction with her when i came back to get my glasses , she was haughty and unplessant , i asked her her question and she answered very curtly. I certainly didnt feel welcome. The old management would have never hired someone with an attitude. The atmosphere was very warm and laid back. They have lost me as a client after at least 10 years of going there . The frames are dated. They are not curated, just a ton of them like a flea market. The prices are high. I've never paid so much for glasses with insurance ever. Only one guy knows what's going on. The other two must be related to the owner and they just say, "Only he takes care of that." It does them no service old guy for you to not train them. Did I mention that it took over a month to get my glasses? Can't say there is really any reason to go here. read more

God's little optical shop. OK, you're as myopic as a mole. You wear goggles during sex. Your glasses are on your face ALL THE TIME. You aren't rich, rich, rich, so you need to be fussy about the cheaters that you purchase. They gots to be right. I advise you to tap your way down to Parrelli Optical in West Roxbury. 1. The shop is small, but the selection is huge, varied, and pretty well-organized. 2. The staff is able, stable. No hurry-up to choose or pressure to buy. 3. Technical competence and truthful guidance. 4. Flexible deals. GREAT prices. No teaser fraud. 5. Glasses made pronto. 6. Not happy? No argument, no apologies, just reasonable help. Parrelli Optical in West Roxbury IS what businesses of all kinds SAY they aspire to be, but rarely are. Absolutely wonderful service. By the way, all Parelli Opticals are NOT created equal. I went to one in Porter Mall in Cambridge and after requesting color contacts, the sales guy looked at me like, "Why are you so shallow?" But the people at the Centre St. West Roxbury location are really nice, attentive, and helpful. I believe it's a man and wife who currently operate it, and they always joke with clients. Being fairly blind at -7.5, I have a lot of experience with eye doctors and optical stores. I just went to Parrelli's for the first time last week. The staff were extremely kind and helpful and did not try to up-sell me at all. The glasses were ready within 48 hours, exactly as they promised. Since I only wear my glasses in the house before bed and first thing in the AM, I thought I could handle living w/o anti-reflective coating, but I was wrong. So I ran back in there this AM to re-order. They were incredibly nice and are ordering the new lenses right away, and charging me the difference. I'm certain that most optical places would charge me the full price for a new set of lenses since they can't use the first ones for anyone else. I'm very impressed by their customer service and based on my recent experience, I'd recommend them to anyone over the competition. read more

Just had the best eyeglasses experience after days of overpriced hell!! i really wanted some fashionable glasses that i would wear more often and not just revert to contacts all the time.. i also wanted transitionals (turns dark in the sun) because i have major light sensitivity.. the other places i had gone were sooo sooo pricy!! was looking at upwards of $600 for glasses with transitionals.. Parrelli's was amazing - i had a HUGE selection of wonderful fashionable frames, the cost of the lenses with transitionals were much more affordable then any other place, they were very clear in describing options and making recommendations, JUST WONDERFUL! - i ended up with beautiful glasses and prescription sunglasses (two pairs) for $200 less than the other places i had gone to. I never write reviews, but I've been going to this Parrelli location for years and their WONDERFUL service compels me to write my first ever Yelp review. Seriously, they're amazing. Prices are excellent, and service is friendly, professional, personal, honest, and quick (can usually pick up new glasses and contacts within 1-2 days). They have sat with me for literally an hour as I tried on multiple pairs of glasses, and helped me find the pair that was right for me. And if I ever have a problem with my glasses (whether or not I got them at Parrelli), I bring them to Parrelli and they're always helpful in some way. They really go above and beyond, and that's why I'll continue to go to them, even when I move into the city next year. They're that deserving of my patronage! read more

I went here based off Yelp reviews to have several pairs of glasses fixed. One pair seemed hopeless but I thought I'd give it a try. The person who fixed them warned me that the worst frames could possibly snap but he'd give it a try. You can tell they know their stuff too because he knew exactly where I had purchased each frame. 10 minutes later he came back with all of my frames fixed. Gave me a new nice case, and sent me on my way with lollipops for my kids. No charge. Seriously good service. I will definitely go back there when its time for my next exam. I have a very tricky prescription that must be exact. I trust no one but the good people at Parelli /West Roxbury. They have been making my glasses every year for many years, and I have never had an issue or a problem. No small feat when you consider I typically fill at least five pairs each year. I use Yelp all the time but am really a horrible Yelp Reviewer -- but I felt like I absolutely MUST give this place a 5-star rating! Seriously, I had been to Lens Crafters and Pearle Vision to only feel like I was walking around a bazaar being hounded and haggled with. As a last ditch effort to places on Newbury St that I knew would be way over priced, but perhaps offer a more pleasant buying experience, I stopped by Parrelli b/c of the limited but solid Yelp reviews. Holy heck, am I glad I did!! Amazing selection, he must have 4k+ of frame selections from no-name brands to Tiffany. I wanted Ray Ban prescription sunglasses and not only did he have every option of Ray Ban sunglasses but he gave very tailored advice that was spot on as to what frame I'd probably be most happy with due to my strong prescription. I ordered a pair of Ray Ban prescription sunglasses with polarized lenses that look exactly like the G-15 lenses that come in the Wayferer model for $220 LESS than what Pearle Vision quoted me. So...awesome service, very quick turn around time (2 days and he had to special order my frame color), distinctly cheaper and supporting a local business (he's been there 30 yrs)...why not?! read more

Made the mistake of leaving my glasses in a pocket and the glasses went through the wash. Lenses are fine but it seems the frame's shape was affected. I was pleasantly surprised to see the shop open after 6pm. I was greeted by Tai and explained what happened. He could tell something was up with the frame just by looking at them. He took them to a machine where he was able to adjust the frame. The glasses now fit perfectly! Tai said there was no charge and he kindly refused my offer of a few dollars for his efforts. I went into Parrelli Optical looking for non-prescription reading glasses, but the person behind the counter politely said that they only dealt with prescription glasses. Since I was in the store anyway, I asked if they sold neck cords for sunglasses. A gentleman appeared, showed me two displays filled with different kinds of cords and recommended a certain type. When I attempted to pay for them, he said not to worry, it was his pleasure. So if that kind of customer service, even when someone is not technically a customer, doesn't deserve 5 stars, than I don't what would! read more

For those of you that are younger, this is the way it used to be before the chains ruined it with bait and switch sales, limited selection and ridiculous markup. I live in Jamaica Plain so there are now optical shops closer to home. However my encounters with their clerks has not been positive so I went back to Parrelli. They took care of me immediately even though it was close to their Saturday closing time of 3. They showed me several frames, logged into my vision insurance company website to verify my coverage, and then did the measuring to order my progressive lenses. The service here is friendly, fast, and the glasses are good quality. What more could anyone want? read more
