Another visit to SEE and another 5 star experience. James helped me pick out the best frames and also walked me through the process of getting new lenses in my current (and beloved) pair as well, packaging them together for the best savings I could get. Everyone in the shop is just a delight. So friendly and helpful. The frames are unique and I still get compliments on my glasses regularly. My last pair has lasted me 2 solid years and the frames themselves are still in great shape, just needed to update the lenses since normal wear and tear left them a little scratched up. They also now have a blue light coating that will help filter out the blue light from computer and mobile screens. I live in LA, and vacationed near Ann Arbor years ago. While there, I stumbled upon SEE eye-ware on State St. and the service I received was so amazing, that here I am, years later, still choosing to go to them each year for my eye-ware needs. SEE has a decent selection of trendy frames--lots of plastic, lots of color, and constantly changing. They're not particularly high quality, probably on par with Warby Parker. The pricing isn't bad if you don't have insurance, know your prescription, and like one of the budget frames ("core collection"), which is a package frames+lenses deal for $160. If you have insurance, pricing gets funky. That "package" price becomes the price for the frames alone, with the lenses now billed separately ($99 for single vision). So for most standard vision plans, you're actually better off paying out of pocket for lower-end glasses at SEE. Which seems counterintuitive. My advice: wait for a groupon. $40 for a $200 voucher makes these so much more affordable, and you can save your insurance benefit for another place. Also, the quoted two weeks to fill a prescription is far longer than I've ever had to wait. Most opticians' turnaround is half that, even outsourced to a wholesale lab. $100 for anti-glare coating is also more than the usual $50-75. SEE doesn't quite live up to its "hip without the rip" slogan. read more

I am visiting from out of town and had a super loose arm on my glasses. I stopped here on a whim as i was walking by and they tightened the screw free of charge. I was in the store less than five minutes. The hinge is becoming stripped (ive had these glasses for more than four years) and ive tried a million times to tighten them with all sorts of different screwdrivers but the kind young woman (i wish i had gotten her name) got the arm quite tight! One of the nose pads fell off of my glasses (which are not from SEE), so I stopped in to get them repaired. I was greeted immediately, and my nose pads were replaced in less than 15 minutes for just $5. Super hip place (probably too hip for my personal eyewear needs), but good customer service experience. read more

These folks were very nice, but unfortunately, the plastic on my ($400+) glasses started cracking and pinching my hair around a year after purchase. When I asked about it, I was told that replacement parts weren't available, and the best they could offer was a discount on a new pair of glasses, or the chance to purchase a new frame in a different color at a lower price. The discount offer was a nice gesture, but considering that every other pair of glasses frames I've bought has lasted me several years (these replaced a pair of glasses from 2010!), I elected not to throw good money after bad, and went to a different optician for a replacement pair. So, although the people are very nice, if my frames are any indication, SEE is all style, with little substance to back it up. If you want something that's cheap and fashionable and disposable, they're a great place to go, but don't expect glasses built to last. read more

I heart SEE! One of the things that I appreciate most (not having had vision insurance for awhile), is that the pricing for the frames includes the lenses, and that they have frequent special offers and discounts. Dr. Kang is one of the nicest eye docs that I've come across -- very easy to talk to and efficient. Pricing for the exams is very reasonable. As Nia mentioned, sometimes Dr. Kang's giant white dog hangs out, which is awesome, since he's probably the kindest dog ever. I always call him Falcor (even though that's not his name), since that's immediately who comes to mind whenever I see him. The selection of frames is fantastic and ever-changing. The only downside of this ever-evolving collection is that if you break an older frame, it might be out of stock. This recently happened to me, but Ayron helped me pick out new frames that were juuust right. I've gotten multiple compliments on them since. Pretty much everyone who works at this location has a good eye (no pun intended), and I would trust Ayron, Becca, Daniel for honest advice on what does (or doesn't) look good. SEE also tries to keep things fun and tie in to the local community. Each year they host a special party timed to line up with the Ann Arbor Film Fest -- offering discounts, grub, and DJs. A percentage of the purchases that day support the festival. Very cool. They have a credit card, which is interest-free for a certain period of time. Since glasses are expensive, and I wasn't planning on my old ones being broken/having to buy new ones, this was tempting. I'm not a fan of the card -- it's administered by GE and their customer service is no great shakes. BUT, as long as you stick with SEE itself, and don't get sucked in by the card (I just paid it off -- whoohoo!), you'll be in great, stylish shape! read more

WE frequent the townn of Ann Arbor, MIchigan. It's a College/University town and full of a diversified group of fun loving people. We often go into the Optical store called "S.E.E." and have never been treated anything but "wonderfully kind" there. I got a pair of really cute black rimmed glasses there a couple of years ago and after, the "Vision Center/Canton, MI" and the Dr. there had given me a wrong prescription and I had my glasses made at SEE, they actually RE-DID the glasses for me with the CORRECT prescription for FREE! We always are treated fairly, and in a kind and pleasant manner. It doesn't seem to matter how busy they are as they always treat you with the utmost respect, honesty and integrity! The people who work at SEE will always offer you a 10%" customer satisfaction deduction" if it's really a bit out of your price range and you really want to get just the right glasses! Especially if you are showing and telling them that you ARE very satisfied with their service and product. They offer a "6 month same as cash" credit and you also get the 10% deduction taken off when you order through their own credit service. Their prices are about, from what I've been able to discern, maybe 40.00-50.00 below the prices of places such as "The Vision Center" (in Canton, MI) and even Pearle Vision Centers, or the Mall Optical stores also! We will continue to do our eyeglasses business at SEE in Ann Arbor, MI from now on, because of their lower prices with a wide range and variety of glasses AND graduated bi-focals!! But most of all because of the kindness and courteousness of their staff! I just thought I should also let you know that they take most insurances and it is a "cool" and clean place to do business with an honest and hardworking Dr. and staff on site! One more thing I would like to add is that I was told by the "Vision Center" that they "could NOT and WOULD NOT put new lenses in older frames that I'd not purchased there, because if they were to break, I would be out all of the money!" But at SEE, they took my old frames and told me I could pick a new frame and would only have to pay for the lenses if "THEY broke my old frames"...but that they still were not "responsible for them". I had to add the great things that they do for people/customers!! They will adjust your glasses for as long as it takes to make them "just right" also!! SEE gets 1 star because the optometrists were really nice. Now for the problems: - The sales employees are incompetent and give off that pretentious hipster vibe that would be more understandable in Greenpoint or Silver Lake, but c'mon this is Ann Arbor. - The selection of frames they have is okay, but they don't carry a lot of frames seen on the website. In fact, they tell you that once someone buys a frame, they don't carry it anymore. Really? There is only 1 frame option in each style? So unless I am the first one to see it, then I'm out of luck. That doesn't make any sense. - The staff does not seem to have proper training and also they don't listen. - They don't pay attention to details (in terms of billing) and actually charged my insurance incorrectly until I brought the mistake to their attention. Then it was just non-sense excuses without any apology. I've given this place ample opportunities, but I'm NEVER going there again. I'll take my chances elsewhere. read more

Elaine was super awesome and helpful! I really wanted a pair of glasses a friend of mine had purchased there YEARS ago, but they were out of stock. She looked up my glasses via my friend's profile (I didn't know what they were called, only had a photo of them) and there were 2 left between all the stores...and she got both of them into the Ann Arbor store for me! I had a great experience there and would highly recommend getting glasses from them. They're super cute and not your run of the mill frames that you see in every store. Highly recommend! If things are a little out of your price range, I would suggest waiting for a Groupon. I used one, $39 for $200 credit. The cost of my frames ended up totaling me about $80. I didn't realize I had to get the anti reflective coating on the lenses, which was $99 and a little bit expensive for me, HOWEVER, with the Groupon much of that cost was alleviated. I ended up paying less than $150 for the frames (that I REALLY wanted), lenses and coating. In my experience, I've had trouble finding glasses I really loved due to the expensive nature of the frames themselves, so I've had to buy cheaper glasses. With the Groupon, I ended up paying less than I have in the past for beautiful frames and quality material. And they are super nice! read more

I needed new glasses, and since I moved I looked for a new See Eyewear. Seeing (Pun) that there was one in Ann Arbor I made an appointment for an exam. I naively thought that it was located in Briarwood but when I did a Mapquest found out it was in the city. I almost cancelled but decided to go with the adventure. After the horrendous detour thru Ann Arbor (curses, State St.), I finally found it. It was near the State St. Theatre. I had to use the Maynard St parking structure and go up to the 7th Level(great view of Ann Arbor). Once inside, I saw it was twice the size of the Somerset location. Lots of glasses, mostly hipster style, and Aviators(they're back?). Since I wore those the first time around in the Seventies I decided to look for something new. I found a couple of clear plastic frames that looked promising and then waited for the optometrist. Dr.Bagri-pavone was warm, professional, and most important, really listened to my questions. The bonus was that she lives in Canton! We traded restaurant tips! I can't wait to get my new glasses! I will let you know how they come out!!! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. Aside from having the most rad, fresh, fashion-forward frames to choose from, the people who work there, including the owner and managers are mega friendly, mega helpful. I am a four-time happy customer. They will (thank god) give you their honest opinion, which I really appreciate. You certainly don't want an overly-eager salesperson telling you what you want to hear, only to find that you hate the frames later. Eyewear is what they do, they are the experts, and in trusting them I have NOT been disappointed. Aaron is especially great. I get compliments on my glasses on the daily. Christ, they even let me bring my dog in and treated him like a prince, showering him with love and dog treats! Oh! And regarding price, I was pleasantly surprised by how INEXPENSIVE the frames are, and most are made in Italy! I had walked by this place for years thinking it was out of my price range, but the frames/lenses are totally affordable, on the average around $225. I wish I would have come in sooner. I finally got my first pair of specs from SEE after the girlfriend has been going there for years and getting compliments on her eyewear. Not sure why I waited so long... Customer service was top notch - very patient as I tried on every pair of glasses in the store. The price was super competitive and of course, the selection... Without question the best place to find fantastic frames at a decent price. My eyesight is *horrible* and I've been wearing glasses every second of every waking moment for the past 20 years, so take it from me. I've been shopping at SEE for probably the past 10 years and they have never once disappointed me. The selection is just the best. I challenge anyone, from the most trend-conscious American Apparel employee to the bro-est of frat bros to not find at least one pair of frames that they like. The frames are also very high-quality; I've never once had an issue in this respect. The service is excellent at this location: everyone's super nice and they all have an uncanny knack for pulling something you never would have pulled yourself and it turns out looking awesome. If you need it, they'll hold your hand through the whole process and can be very attentive, but they're also great about backing off if you're just browsing or don't need anyone else's opinion. They'll also tighten your frames, clean your lenses and do quick-fix repairs for free which is completely awesome. Turnaround is reasonable. I have a really high prescription and it never takes more than 10 days for me to get my glasses. A big perk: I believe you can return your glasses for an exchange within 30 days if you're just not diggin' the look. This is a great safety net when you're spending a good chunk of change on something you'll be wearing on your face all the time. Mariah mentions the SEE card, of which I happen to be a big fan. It's an additional 10% off, plus you get 3 months to pay off the balance interest free. I've never had a problem with customer service, but that's because I've never had to use it. If you're really good about handling credit and you're on top of paying the balance within the 3 months, then this is a great way to go. Definitely takes the sting out of that bottom line. P.S. They have an in-house optometrist and exams only cost $29 if you're a student. Very convenient. You will need to show that you've had an exam within the last year to get glasses. P.P.S. Good luck with that. The phone system is terrible. We've been waiting 5 weeks for a rebate we were supposed to get through a SEE promotional offer, and not only haven't we seen it, we also can't get ahold of anybody to figure out why not. I live in St. Thomas VI; I ordered a pay of optical lenses from April in May, everytime I called her, she would put me on hold....I ordered the glasses and received them. I sent her an email saying the glasses were too big, she wrote back and said "I am sorry". I wrote back to her and asked if she had padding for the nose tips, she never responded. Today I called again April picked up and put me on hold. I think she recognized my number and after 5 minutes had some obnoxious man answer the phone, all I needed was the size of my glasses, he sounded very immature. 50 years I've been going to eye doctors! I've had glasses, contacts, emergency exam after looking too closely at a jagged cinderblock wall; early cataract surgery. I saw a woman a few months ago with the cutest glasses and when I asked her where she got them she told me to visit SEE in Ann Arbor. My insurance only covers certain places so I thought it was no use. I recently ordered Ray Bans from the optical place where my eye exam was completed. When they came in I was shocked by how big they were! There weren't any for me to try on at the time and I thought they were much smaller. I hate them! Anyway... I was excited to see a groupon for SEE and quickly purchased it. It's a $39 groupon for $225 value toward a complete set. Awesome! I immediately called SEE too inquire about their process. Carolyn assisted me over the phone and was very helpful and told me to come right in. She seemed excited to help me get the perfect pair. I was just getting of work (also downtown) at the time and told her I'd be right in. Upon arrival I was greeted right away. I noticed that Carolyn was assisting someone. She told me to look around and she'd be right with me. I looked and looked and looked. She finished with that customer, meanwhile another came in. I definitely appeared as though I was still waiting for assistance. The customer that had just walked in said she was there to pick up. Carolyn proceeded to help her. Another woman walked in stating she needed her glasses re-fitted. I'm still waiting! Carolyn starts helping this customer as well. At this point I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I had assumed she would be helping me after the first customer since the two others she helped after that weren't even in the store when she told me she'd be right with me. Kind of disappointing. :-/ I approached Carolyn and let her know I would just come back. I was in this store for probably 15-20 minutes just wandering around. The store is not that big. Not too happy with my first experience. Guess I'll give it another try some other day. If not, hopefully my groupon can be returned. Decided to try SEE because there was a $59 Groupon for $225 towards an eye exam and glasses. I needed to get an exam since it's been over a year and I no longer trusted the Doctor I've been going to since elementary school after telling him repeatedly that I found it hard to focus while wearing my glasses. The Doctor at SEE looked at my current glasses along with another pair of much older spectacles and after some eye Doctor mumbo jumbo with the steampunk looking machinery (sans the copper accents); he determined that my current prescription is trying to overcorrect my astigmatism. FINALLY...vindication for my eyes!!! I didn't use my eye "insurance" and still got a great price on my eye exam and new glasses (especially with the Groupon) Very happy with my decision to go to SEE . read more

I am new to Ann Arbor and was looking for an eyeglasses place. While on vacation recently, my glasses broke - one of the nose pads fell off. Luckily, I had a back up pair with me. I decided to go to SEE to repair my broken ones and also adjust my backup pair of glasses. The guy on duty, was super nice, very helpful, and it only cost me $5 to get my glasses fixed. He also cleaned up both glasses and adjusted my backup glasses so they stopped sliding down my nose all the time. I also talked to him about getting some contacts. It looks like if I want to do that, I need to see the optometrist and get a prescription, since the last time I did that was over a year ago now. I was pleasantly surprised that for only $99, I'd get an eye exam and contacts or glasses. I'm going to hold off for now - I don't need new glasses or contacts quite yet, but this is something I will keep in mind if I need to do that in the next few months. I'd go back - it looks like they have some pretty funky and cool glasses, just like the other reviewers talk about. read more

My experience having a vision test with Dr. Johnson was a very positive one, in the sense that he was able to accurately test my vision without either of us getting frustrated! My previous year's exam at another business was extremely frustrating to both the doctor and myself. I didn't get the good report that I was expecting to hear. Dr Johnson was very professional and caring when he informed me that I needed to get further tests for Glaucoma. He referred me to a location where tests could be performed, and called them to inform them of my case. He will interpret the results. He is warm hearted and excellent as an optometrist. I highly recommend him and all of the staff at See! I love the glasses they assisted in choosing and I can see!!!! read more

I live in Florida and was in Ann Arbor for an art show. I lost one of my contacts and found this funky little eyeglass shop. I was welcomed as soon as I walked in. Every employee I came in contact with was friendly and helpful. April ultimately helped me by giving me a replacement contact after my doctor faxed over my prescription. One of the things I always dread is the process of finding and purchasing new glasses. It isn't bad enough that I have to go and have an eye exam and have someone come THIS CLOSE to touching my eyeballs (ew) AND do that puff of air thing which I hate with the fiery passion of a thousand suns but then I have to find frames too. If it isn't a crappy selection of frames to choose from then it's salespeople who don't give a crap about how you look in them and want you to just order the suckers and be gone! Perhaps this is why I had my last pair for 4 years which was about 2 years past when the prescription needed to be updated. And why I typically wear contacts even when my eyes clearly need a break. I popped into SEE one Friday after work when I was wearing the outdated glasses (still, very cute Chanel frames but I couldn't actually see out of them) JUST TO LOOK and I was so wowed by the experience that I walked out not only having purchased frames but actually CONFIDENT IN MY PURCHASE!! This has never happened before on a solo eyeglass frame purchasing expedition. The salespeople at SEE were awesome...I probably tried on about 50 frames to figure out what looked best on me. They have quite a selection of wire and plastic frames in all shapes, sizes, and colors so there is a lot to choose from. I couldn't actually see what I looked like all that well since I wasn't wearing my contacts so I really had to rely on the opinions of those around me and they all weighed in. They were all HONEST. Stuff I thought looked good they would veto, and would actually tell me why (I had to trust, things were really quite blurry to me!.) Their prices are reasonable and include lenses, which is nice. In some other stores, the price on the frame is only for the frame and you have to add on lenses, etc. It only took a week for them to be ready for pick-up and when I did pick them up all the staff were dressed up for halloween. it kinda made me want to work there. I've gotten a million compliments on my glasses and I wear them a lot more often now. Thank you, SEE! I didn't have my eye exam there because they don't accept my vision insurance but I know they do them there. They also have a big white dog that hangs out in the shop which is just the icing on the cake for me. In sum, if you are plagued with deteriorating eyesight like myself, I highly recommend SEE for fashionable and reasonably priced frames as well as a more than stellar eyeglass shopping experience!! read more

I'm a challenging customer for eyewear. Poor vision, right eye, allergic to plastic frames and nose pieces, insist on most fashionable glasses, great price, and confirmation that my eye exam elsewhere was accurate. Beginning with Isabel, on the phone, Claire selecting frames, April reassuring that Dr. Andrew Johnson was totally up-to-date and current on eye and skin issues...I ended up with the most comprehensive information from Dr. Johnson, reasons why contacts wouldn't work, how to work with frames/glasses for driving, glasses for reading and two pairs sent to the shop for nose pieces, that I can wear for dinner and a movie. All in all, every visit was a pleasure, the shop pops with great displays and continuous new options. Only request, larger round glasses with wide nose bridge, thin nose pieces so very little plastic touches my nose and face. My first See glasses had those features. As I age, need larger frames for distance driving so I can see street signs and highway signs. I think customised glasses at See would be great! 1. They want you to pay if they adjust your glasses (this is almost always a free service) 2. They have some good and some hip frames but the prices are sky high 3. They give discounts if you give them positive reviews (FB, Yelp etc) so be careful if you are basing your decision from reviews. read more
