10 years ago (2015) Dr. Currcione realized she made a BIG medical error by overlooking my gradual increase in eye pressure in both eyes even though I saw her regularly each year. The worst was my right eye which was 35 eye pressure and optic nerve damage. The left also had glaucoma. She referred me to Dr. Gago, specialist, and with two kinds of drops and laser treatments brought by eye pressure down to 20 and below. However, the damage was done. My eyes have been stable but I am afraid to have the necessary surgery which I can no longer put off. Hopefully she has learned from her mistakes as a Doctor but I would think twice about getting her as your doctor. read more

Best experience that I've had at an optometrist. I find optometry visits challenging and have delayed going for several years. I really appreciate the time and consideration provided by Dr. Curcione. She explained everything clearly and made sure I understood. She also helped me find glasses and contacts that would fit with my lifestyle and sensory sensitivities. The staff were excellent as well at every point of the process. I didn't think the visit would be covered by health insurance, and they checked anyhow and informed me that it would be. The staff who helped me pick out glasses was very helpful. This is the first time I'm looking forward to wearing a pair of glasses (which is saying a lot as someone who's vehemently hated glasses). I have been going here for years and the doctors have always been great, but this past year I had to visit multiple times and each time I had a really off experience in the front room--concerns dismissed, telling me to "drop in" but no one being available to see me. The final time I was there, the receptionists were audibly gossiping about other patients and then scolded a woman in the waiting room for not turning in her paperwork earlier. Our eyes have more trouble focusing as we age. It was time for me to get some "computer glasses," also called "intermediates," because they aid short-range vision. (NOT for driving.) I have astigmatism in one of my eyes, so I can't just grab some "cheaters." I like my new, special-use glasses. They make it possible to keep working when my eyes start to tire, or in low-light situations, when it is harder for my eyes to focus. They are essential when trying to read a tiny font on a computer monitor. Dr. Curcione knew just how to tweak my regular eyeglass prescription to give me the "Ahhh..." effect as I slip these on. read more

I've been coming here for about four years... when I first made an appointment, they informed me to go to their website, download the forms and fill it out before arriving to reduce the wait time... talk about utilizing technology... The staff here are very nice and friendly. I do agree with Jon M, the prices are on the higher end... and yup, VSP (insurance) does help. I continue to go back for my annual check up. read more

I've been a patient for many years, very happy with the doctor; staff are not overly helpful. I ordered new lenses for my glasses and was told it would take 2-3 weeks; after 3 weeks I called and was told they were in but needed to be checked - a few days later I called back to ask about delay and was told I could pick them up. The lenses were too small for the frames so had to be sent back to the lab and the staff said they'd request rush delivery due to lab error. Two weeks later, still no update; called and was told lenses are in and I could pick them up. No call from staff which is not acceptable in my opinion. I understand labs are slower with delivery due to COVID but this is basic customer service and they do not seem to care about helping customers. I will never order from this office again and am considering finding a new eye doctor read more

This place had great service. I was able to speak with someone by phone immediately. I was able to schedule a new patient visit in two weeks. They were able to combine my different eye exams into one appointment so I did not have to come back multiple times. Overall I thought the service was amazing. read more

I've been searching for a competent optometry practice with decent service for years. I've tried five others since moving to Ann Arbor and didn't go back to any of them a second time. My problem is that I want my glasses to fit and have been given the impression that has been too much to ask. The service at Ann Arbor Optometry was courteous and professional from the front desk to the exam room to the fitting desk. The doctor answered all my questions about contact lenses, which I have not worn for years, without displaying any signs of impatience, and suggested the least expensive option. The person who fitted me for glasses chose a pair that fit well and did not try to sell me any costly add-ons. I can't comment on pricing since our insurance plan covered all but $10 of my visit and glasses. My glasses were delivered in the promised time frame and properly fitted. They still fit and feel well after six months of daily wear. read more

Had Dr. Bruder and am a big fan! She is a fellow Michigan alum and is very quick to asses my needs. She let me try a toric lens that my home optometrist did not even recommend and it has made all the difference. However, I wish there were an online ordering system for contact refills like my home optometrist had. It is hard for me to find online options having a toric lens and sometimes I just can't get to the phone. read more

Wow, it's rare that I disagree so much with my fellow Yelpers, but this time I do. I also feel a little bad giving a 1-star review since neither my husband nor I had a bad experience with the doctors. But, in two years, the staff has twice forgotten to order frames/lenses for us, billed us for ones we never received, lost my designer frames for two weeks, and when they did finally find them, one lens was cut so poorly it sticks halfway out of the frame. And they were never the least bit friendly, and never apologetic for any of the screwups. In fact, they pulled the incredibly mature tactic of, "Oh, the person who knows about that isn't here right now, she'll call you back" (and then she doesn't), more than once. Seriously? The 9-year-old kid who always wants to rake my yard is more professional than that. read more

Hmmm... I was referred here by a friend, and I started out less than impressed. We had a 9:30 appointment, so we arrived at 9:15. Turns out the office opens at 9:30, so we sat in the car for 15 minutes, watching others arrive, try the door, look at their watches and head back to their own vehicles. The door was opened a few minutes after 9:30, after a small crowd had formed. I was immediately irritated, and became more so when they handed me all the new patient paperwork I needed to fill out before we went back. The exam seemed thorough, but at 11:10, AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES AFTER WE ARRIVED, I had to say we had to leave to catch a flight. We got our diagnosis, and we'll order glasses soon. I just don't know if we'll order them here. I really enjoyed the doctor but I feel like the others aren't very service focused. read more

I am HARD on my eyes! I read incessantly in poor lighting and use a computer for 12+ hours a day between work, school, and home (when I am not also watching TV or gaming). I've been wearing corrective lenses since I was a toddler, so I've seen the inside of many optometrist and opthamologist offices. I thought Ann Arbor Optometry was just wonderful. Patient forms are available on the website, and filling them out ahead of time expedited new patient check-in. The office is nicely decorated, with a comfortable looking waiting room, but I didn't have a real opportunity to sit down and wait as I was taken to an exam room within five minutes of walking though the door. Dr. Christina Curcione gave me one of the most thorough and thoughtful eye exams I've had since moving to MI 8 years ago. I'd long suspected something was off about my prescription, and Dr. Curcione confirmed that I was being overcorrected unnecessarily. My new prescription is a marked improvement over the last one (from Pearle Vision at Briarwood). There was no upsell pressure at all. I got a copy of my eyeglass prescription without even asking for it. My contact lenses were shipped directly to my home, saving me another trip to pick them up. I have VSP vision insurance, that coverage was painlessly applied toward my balance (an exercise that took roughly 40 minutes at the Pearle Vision). On top of everything, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my portion of the balance was much less (about $80 less) than I have been accustomed to paying elsewhere! I cannot overstate how pleased I am with my whole experience at Ann Arbor Optometry, and I plan on returning every year until I inevitably go blind. read more

Our family switched to Ann Arbor Optometry a few years ago after continued bad experiences with another local provider. We could not be happier. The care, service, quality, attention to our needs, listening, thoughtfulness, and positive, supportive attitudes are outstanding. I leave feeling confident and satisfied, rather than stressed and annoyed. And they are very tolerant when we bring in members of the family to help pick out the right glasses, finding pleasure in and helping out with our collective hunt for the perfect pair. It's fun! I've been coming here since I moved to Ann Arbor several years ago. Dr. Sortor is very personable, knowledgable, and helpful. I'm comfortable asking any questions or voicing concerns about what's happening with my eyes. Just like any doctor, speak up if you have questions and/or concerns. They will be answered truthfully and with respect. I mostly wear contacts, but sometimes wear glasses. I really like that you can stop in without an appt. to have your glasses adjusted. They have many options when it comes to contacts and glasses. It's also nice that they are open one Saturday a month from 8:30-12. Everyone I've ever dealt with has been great. Keep it up! read more

I was able to make an appointment fairly quickly and my glasses came in within 7-10 days. It was also easy to find the building and it has plenty of parking. My eye exam went smoothly and the optician was very patient through the pressure test when I had difficulties keeping my eyes open (for that dreaded puff of air). I am new to Ann Arbor and based on the reviews here visited the office today for a long overdue prescription. The staff were very friendly and I had a very thourough exam. They picked up on two "items of concern" which my opthamologist had mentioned to me during my last exam 5 years ago. The eyeglasses slaes staff were also very helpful with no high pressure sales piches. I was able to leave with my prescription to "shop around" but I may go back to purchase the glasses since they do take my VSP insurance and the proices were resonable. read more

I think this establishment is fine and the optometrist I had (Dr. Bodker) did her job just as well as any; although I was annoyed by the fact that she addressed me by my first name (even though I am a physician in private practice); while at the same time introducing herself as "Dr. Bodker". I find it condescending when providers do this; and it just turned me off to her for the rest of the eye examination (I always address my patients by Mr. or Ms. unless instructed otherwise). i was pleased when I went there the first time. The second time is what ticked me off. I made an appointment, and when I got there - after taking off work- they told me they no longer accept my insurance. Even though when I went on my insurance's website, they were listed as a provider. Thanks for giving me a courtesy call. Now they won't stop calling and harassing me to make another appointment. Although I have not yet used them for eye exams or ordering glasses, I recently moved to the area and my glasses broke. After going to a nearby eye glass place and having them tell me they were unable to fix the glasses because they didn't carry that brand of frames (and that I should go back to where I purchased them), I tried Ann Arbor Optometry. The staff were friendly and understanding, fixed my glasses while I waited, and did a good job adjusting my and my daughter's frames. read more

My first appointment here went relatively smoothly. They were very helpful with my contacts my first time using them. They did mess up my insurance and overcharged me, and I was not able to get any of that money back. Just recently I needed to make an appointment very urgently and they were unhelpful and dishonest on the phone. I was told that someone had canceled and that I could have a certain appointment. I told them that was okay and I would clear it with my work and call back. When I called back they claimed that there had never been any cancellations, and there were no appointments for two weeks. One of the people I spoke with was lying, and now I have a new dentist. Very unprofessional. Also if you email them using the form on the website, expect to wait several days for a response. read more

I have been going to Ann Arbor Optometry for the past few years. If it is your first visit you can download all the new patient froms from their website and fill them out ahead of time to save you time at the office. I have seen both Drs Curcione and Sorter and am happy with both of them. I've always had very little wait time before my appointment. They take my insurance (Davis vision) and it seems like they have pretty big selection of frames. I cant comment on pricing since I took the basic Davis frames, but I was not pressured for any pricy add ons. I wear contacts and usually check out the online pricing before my appointment. Dr Curcione is always willing to work with me on to make the price of ordering contacts through the office competitive to the prices offered online. The doctors are very knowledgeable about contacts and were even able to prescribe a special lens type for my eye with astigmatism (I've worn contacts for years and they were the first to tell me these were available) read more
