Be prepared to wait a long long time for anything. My first checkup I was told the wait was an hour. Someone had already been waiting 90 minutes. So I rescheduled. The next time went better but I got an early appt. I didn't really get my trial contacts on time (they said they would call me but didn't), which led to another delay. Then I had to schedule an appt to try them on, as opposed to just picking them up. I just feel like it's really complicated. Doctors se good but the overall experience was not efficient. read more

It was time to get another glasses so I went with SVS because of their late hours. Made an appointment, went, filled out a form, I sat and waited to get my eyes checked... came out of the exam room, looked for my glasses, paid and was out the door in about an hour.... the longest part was looking for frames that I liked. Staff were friendly and nice, wasn't busy on the day I went. There's plenty of parking and when I picked up my glasses, I was in and out in less than five minutes. Messed my original order for lens up. Then said they were doing me a favor of having them sent to my place at "no extra cost". Only to find out they shipped them to some other ladies house, and she's on vacation. It took them over a month to try and correct their mistakes. Kept catching an attitude with me everytime I called to check the status of my glasses... "did you get a call saying they were in yet". Terrible service from the people who work the office. I didn't get an eye exam here so idk how that is. read more

The doctor is thorough and very pleasant. The staff is friendly and helpful. My only concern is that when I got my glasses last year, the lenses didn't wear well. The coating on the lenses seemed to rub off or deteriorate in some way. I talked to the doctor and the staff about the issue and they assure me that if it happens with this new pair, then I should bring them back so we can figure out what happened. I've been going to SVS for a few years now since it's one of the optometrists in the area that takes my insurance and I've not had a bad experience yet! It's super easy to get an appointment, their staff is super helpful and friendly, and the optometrists are really friendly and easy going. When I order contacts they come in quickly and in great condition. I'm also notorious for ordering said contact lenses and forgetting to pick them up when they come (requiring several reminder phone calls) and the staff hasn't kicked me out of their client list yet, which I appreciate! HA. I can't speak too much about their frame selection because I typically get my contacts through them and take my prescription elsewhere to get some glasses (I like kinda funkier frames, TBH) but when I've glanced around I've noticed that they do carry some really nice, well-known designer brands. Looking at their website gives me a refresher that they carry the likes of Coach, Guess, Kate Spade, Kenneth Cole, etc. I have an eye appointment next week actually and I might spend a bit more time looking for some frames through them, even. read more

This is one of the optometrist offices in my health care network, and since I'm new to the area, I thought I would gave it a try. I got lucky on this one! The staff is very friendly, and even though there was a slight mix-up on the nature of my appointment (online issue-probably my bad), they worked with me and made it happen. Everyone there was mindful of the pandemic precautions and I felt comfortable with their sanitation procedures. Dr. Christensen was very professional and pleasant. The staff super, much nicer than the clerical staff at the Jackson Springport Rd. Branch. The really only complaint is after filling in all my insurance info on line, they still were going to bill my spouse, not me. That happens EVERY time. The staff fixed this with no grumbling, unlike the Jackson store, & even apologized. Dr. James is very professional & so easy-going. Got new insurance and had to find a new optometrist. This place is new and convenient, but I won't be back here when I need glasses next time. I wear glasses for distance only; I take them off for reading and computer work. The optometrist decided that I needed bifocals--at 37 years old. So we order them up, and the focal points are incorrectly measured by the counter assistant. Glasses arrive two weeks later, and everything is blurry. Measurements changed, back they go, new glasses arrive two weeks later, everything is STILL blurry. I'm becoming convinced that I DON'T actually need bifocals, as everything is BETTER when I take them off. Counter assistant insists I take them with me, to "try and get used to them." I wear them for only one day because it's impossible to read anything with them. I come back a week later to see the optician, he grudgingly removes the bifocal prescription. Two weeks later, new single-focus glasses arrive, and they finally work perfectly. And then the place refuses to refund the difference between single-focus lenses I ended up with and the bifocals I paid for, because "they had to remake them twice," and it's my fault for "not being able to get used to them." Nevermind the fact that I never actually NEEDED the bifocals to begin with, it was the optometrist's attempt to "make me some glasses that I didn't need to take off when I read." Prescription eyewear should visibly IMPROVE my ability to read things when I put it on, I shouldn't have to try and "get used to" a prescription that didn't actually improve anything! So nearly two months worth of my time, no refund for more expensive lenses I didn't actually need. Will NOT be back to this place next time. read more

I'm going to have to give three stars now due to the fact that my contact prescription was used for my glasses prescription. This is eye care 101...they are two separate prescriptions. You cannot use a contact prescription for glasses or a glasses prescription for contacts. They should know this. I had an examination that seemed very rushed, picked out my frames and was told that my glasses would be ready in a week to ten days. I thought that seemed to be a ridiculously long time to wait, but I just moved to Ann Arbor, so maybe that's the norm around here. When they arrived, they were single vision instead of progressive. I realize that we're all human, and people make mistakes, but it's not like I was given white instead of whole wheat at a restaurant. When it comes to medical, dental or optical, I expect attention to detail, and this place doesn't deliver. I'll never go back, and I won't recommend it. read more

Bad Experience - Beware I picked up my new sunglasses and one eyelash touched the lens. They tried adjusting multiple times over the next several weeks, but to no avail. Finally, I'd had enough and just wanted my money back, but I was past the 45-day return window--even though it was a recurring problem since the first day. The last time they adjusted it, an optician said she figured out the problem, my prescription on that eye was stronger and my lens was thicker on that side. She said there was nothing she could do about it--even though they sold me the glasses knowing full well what prescription needed to fit into the frames. She was content with having a dissatisfied customer. Why didn't she figure out the problem while I was in the 45-day window to get my money back? I had bought a second pair with the same prescription. Why didn't I have a problem on that pair? It was only on the sunglasses. I left, disgruntled, and looked up how to fix the problem on Google. I found the solution and did it myself--no thanks to their "trained" staff. The staff is very friendly and will certainly tell you what you want to hear to get you in for the exam and to buy glasses, but beware afterwards. If you go there for an adjustment, once it's your turn don't expect they will focus on you. They'll greet new customers, answer the phone, and just leave you sitting there. It's too bad they don't understand customer service is not just about being friendly, but delivering quality products and services that satisfy customers. And, if your glasses need more than one adjustment, use your money back guarantee before it's too late! Do yourself a favor, find a reputable place and go there instead. read more

I had my very first visit at SVS Vision today, and the word "pleased" to describe it would be an understatement! I have gone to other businesses in the past for my previous exams and eyeglasses, and they have been, in short, overpriced and unprofessional. Today, I came in for my first appointment; the doctor was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and answered all of my questions. She explained my options to me and with each portion of the exam, she explained what we were doing/checking for and why. At previous eye exams, which have been nowhere near as thorough, I would typically hear phrases like "Do this," "now look through this," etc. The staff were extremely helpful, kind, and patient. Stacy helped me look for eyeglasses and was so patient during the whole process. She gave me some options that she felt would suit me based on my likes and the frame design, etc. The selection of glasses was great- so many pairs to choose from! And to top off the great experience, I was informed my glasses would be ready in 7-10 business days AND if I was unhappy with them, I could do an exchange within 45 days! Thank you so much to everyone that helped make my experience today such a good one! Update: My glasses were ready for pickup today (even sooner than expected!) and I love them!! read more

SAVE YOURSELF YOUR TIME & MONEY - GO ELSEWHERE! Waste of your time, over and over again... I've been wearing contacts for 25 years. The optomitrist changed me from monthly to biweekly. Keeping with the same brand and having no other changes or complication, I've still had to go back 3 additional times for an assessment per the optomitrist request. This is a problem since the doctor is only there very limitted hours two days a week. Then to top it off - They would not release my perscription so that I could order my contacts at a discounted price over the Internet. Instead they wanted to charge me 30-35% more and order directly through their store. To say the least, I've eaten the cost of the exam and my time. I've chosen to go elsewhere and am very pleased. In addition, I even ordered a new pair of glasses, since my new location had a wonderful selection compared to SVC's poor in office selection of frames. read more

Scheduled an appointment for my annual eye exam using my health insurance and through a series of questions also gave them information on my vision insurance. After my exam I looked at the SMALL selection of frames but didn't find ANYTHING I liked. I finalized the paperwork for my exam requested a copy of my prescription and left. The next time I went to use my vision insurance on a Sunday afternoon out of state, I was told I did not have coverage. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I went back to work, confirmed my coverage with the insurance provider and then went to use the benefits and again was told I didn't have benefits. Thankfully the woman helping me figured out that SVS had put a HOLD on my vision benefits so that I could not use them anywhere else. They had absolutely no authority to put a hold on my benefits and communicated nothing to me sending me in circles, what a lousy way to do business! read more

I had a prescription from my opthalmologist. Searched online about the available lens technologies and settled on SVS. The EyeDef series of "customized" lenses was very compelling to me. So, I visited the Jackson Ave. store on a Thursday afternoon. Was greeted by a young man who seemed to know his stuff, but wouldn't really know until my prescription glasses were on my face. After discussing my vision challenges (lots of computer work, a tendency to view down toward my screen, desire for progressives), he recommended Intellilens B, D, and N Trivex Clear with Blue Defense. He pulled together a number of frames (I could've browsed the whole store, but he pulled together 7 or 8 frames based on my design preferences. Picked Guess frames. Got them today. These are great. Used them all afternoon on the computer. The whole screen is crisp and clear. I only have to move my eyes left/right up/down (I used to have to swivel my head left/right and up/down to focus in on specific areas of the screen or text). Distant and medium vision is great as well. I don't have insurance, so was offered a Groupon or the "buy one get one free" deal (which ultimately proved least costly - I also was shopping for sunglasses). I'm very satisfied and highly recommend the SVS EyeDef approach. Discuss your particular viewing habits/needs with the customer rep so he/she understands your situation and can customize accordingly. read more
