Coffee is great, the specialty coffees were excellent. My granddaughters had a M&M cookie that lasted about 30 seconds with big smiles at the end. The atmosphere is eclectic and well done. I think the best coffee in the county and a great place to decompress. read more

Here's the problems: 1.) Hires underage staff who don't know how to make your drink order. (This happened two times within 3 weeks ... both times a set of two underage girls I had to politely instruct how to make a latte and even show them where the syrup would be because they didn't even realize they used syrup for it!) 2.) The boss (older and creepy) just sat there watching the last time instead of instructing staff or caring, which is when I knew I was done. 3.) My daughter went a few days after me and not only did they not know how to make her macchiato, but because of their young age (the young "baristas") at the counter (she guessed 12), she didn't complain even though the hot chocolate they made for her daughter was just warm milk (no chocolate). 4.) You can't charge over $6 and not know how to make drinks. 5.) Not having your staff wear masks when NYS had a mask mandate is illegal and worse, could make vulnerable customers sick or worse. This is a vanity business for the owner and nothing more. I wish it were great and had an owner that cared but it's just terrible every single time. In good news, I now make my own latte at home now for 53 cents and it tastes like a dream EVERY time! read more

For what they charge(at least 15 dollars for two large drinks), you would expect the coffee to be better. I've been to this location several times and ordered several things, though each time I've gone there the coffee has been mediocre at best. Bland, flavorless, and it doesn't even have that great of a smell. The listed hours SAY 8/9:30-3:30PM but it seems as though the owner comes to work whenever he feels like it(We went there a month or so ago, said it was open online, only for the store to be closed) and generally isn't very personable of a guy. I understand that things happen in life that make it so we can't come in to work, but closure wasn't even mentioned on the businesses Facebook page at the very least. The atmosphere and overall vibe of the place was comfortable however. Good seats, nice music, and it's right on main street so a short walk or drive away if you live in the area. The staff are friendly and hardworking, if not amateur-ish when it comes to making drinks. I cannot comment on the quality of their baked goods or breakfast sandwiches as I have not tried them, though considering the quality of their coffee I don't have much faith that their breakfast offerings are anything to write home about. The service is generally slower than it would be if you went somewhere like Dunkin' or Starbucks, which I don't have a problem with in and of itself, but when you need to wait in line for 20 or so minutes only for your drink to be mediocre, then there's a problem. I'm convinced people are so fond of this place because of it's convenience and the fact that the establishment itself is relativity new(it opened roughly in 2019 if i'm not mistaken), not because the coffee is actually any good. There IS a dog on the premises so if you're allergic or just not too fond of dogs, this place might not be for you. It's a good dog, but still. It's kind of worrisome since staff prepares food and drink not even a foot away from it. I cannot stress enough how important it is to support small businesses but that support has to be warranted and, as it stands now, Second Wind doesn't warrant that support. Overall aside from being a good place to get out of the rain or turn to as a last resort for coffee, I see no reason to return to this business. Weigh your options and perhaps choose another coffee spot. Or simpily make it at home yourself for the cheap and bring it with you. You'll be a lot happier that you did. read more

Visited Second Wind Coffee shop this past weekend. After reading 'others' positive reviews and recommendations I thought this should be a great place to go and I was all excited and 'hyped' up to try this place out. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Stood in line for nearly 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged by at least one of the two waitresses working there. While one was eating and munching on her bagel behind the counter and the other checking and texting on her cell phone, I inserted myself and asked if there was a menu for sandwiches and I was abruptly told 'No' (Which by the way, sandwiches were listed on their brochure and pictures of sandwiches shown on their Facebook page ). The waitress stated that they were in the process of moving and all they had were cookies and Danish, which, in my opinion... did not look very enticing!!! I had two other ladies with me and they were also treated in the same form and fashion that I was when trying to ask one of the waitress' a question. Deciding whether to stay or leave to go somewhere else, and witnessing both waitresses whispering among themselves in the corner and looking at us all three of us decided to leave and needless to say.... This place is a gem and is such a great addition to Johnstown's Main Street. The coffee offerings are inventive. The food options are large and satisfying. The decor is welcoming and functional. This place is all that I wished it would be: an establishment serving a great product and catering to all walks of life. When I enter, it's not unusual to see young people drinking coffee and eating snacks catching up with friends, young professionals working on their computers, and older patrons reading the day's newspaper. It's a true mosaic of American life and I'm so happy and relieved that it's achieving it's well-earned success. read more

I kept hearing great things about this place, so I HAD to check it out! I gotta say- it was as good as expected! The place has a really cool vibe... coffee shop meets biker meets vintage. It reminded me of Portland which makes me oh so happy. I got a cold brew which was excellent. Great flavor, not bitter or harsh... just how I like it! And the barista/owner was the only one there, but managed to be friendly and have a smile on his face as he went about making drinks. Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is relaxed and rustic with a collection of pieces that will fuel your curiosity. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I read through some of the worst reviews about this place and was shocked about the lies that were presented. Such as the owner being "old and creepy" to a 10 year old I guess early 30's might be old. As far as the staff goes they are all college age, hardly "12". I would highly recommend stopping in and having your own experience and enjoy some really good coffees. read more

This coffee shop is very urban and the decorations are so cool. The owner is super friendly and will make you an awesome drink if you ask for a surprise! Coffees aren't overly priced, and they taste super good. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area again. read more

This is an amazing coffee house. The vibe and atmosphere were fantastic. The energy was like something you would find in Seattle or San Francisco. The design motif has an industrial feel and is entertaining in itself. The food and service were stellar. FIVE stars for ambiance and creativity, ONE star experience. It was a nightmare. My first time going, I made the 40 minute trip just from following their Instagram and being impressed how beautiful the cafe looked. It was all those things. I show up, the line is out the door, fair enough, it's a popular place. This is where is started to go south. Nobody was enforcing 6 feet apart. Multiple patrons were walking around maskless. No staff was enforcing this because they seemed to have only two staff members working and they were STRESSED. DON'T go if you are allergic to dogs. The owner's dog has free range of the cafe. Not sure how legal that is with food being made. Dog hair is all over the floor. Dog is well behaved, but will get up in your space. The gentleman barista was working his butt off. He was the only one taking orders and then making drinks. He seemed stressed and was not very friendly. The woman making the food was equally stressed and literally had to ask the barista almost every order what he "meant' on the order slip. She seemed very confused about the menu. It was SLOW SERVICE. Did somebody call out or something? This can't be their normal service for such a loyal following. After 30 minutes in line, I finally get up to order. Barista says they don't offer their sandwiches at 11AM. Ugh, fine, but nowhere did it say that. Probably wouldn't have waited. I order drinks and a breakfast sandwich. Drinks come out promptly. Wait another 20 minutes for sandwich. Lady makes sandwiches for local favorites who ask, before people who have already ordered. She is unapologetic when I question this. I won't be back. It is really such a cool space and good drinks. I'm glad the locals like it. It's not worth the trip if you're closer to Albany. The service was so bad. Go to Storied Coffee, Square One, or Superior Merch where they really make an effort. It was a miserable hour spent waiting for a normal enough latte and bagel. read more

Cappucino was very good , my problem is the pricing , or lack of. Big board above counter $3.30 for a small cappucino also the small menu next to register #3.30. I was charged $4.74, thats almost a 50 % increase and you don't show till after my order, ridiculous!! read more

What a disaster this place is. The staff is polite, helpful and kind, but the owner is a different story. He is not helpful, is condescending, and just rude. They never have things that are listed on the menu, the trash is always piling up (disgusting), the dog jumps on the tables, drinks from the toilet and tries to eat peoples food and off the counter. There are dirty boxes every where, I don't even feel comfortable eating/drinking from there any more because its so gross. It seems like the owner has lost interest in the business, decor and overall service, everything has gone down hill. Such a disappointment. New ownership would do wonders for that place. AMAZING decor and overall environment. I absolutely love the feel of the place. Everyone you meet there is absolutely wonderful and nice, its almost surreal. I like the coffee and breakfast choices they typically have but, they don't respond to any messages on Facebook or IG. They also don't have updated information on their fb for website or hours of operation. They don't really show a menu online for prices and their sandwich prices can be pricey. read more

This review is long overdue and this place definitely deserved the good review. My gf and I stopped in here one weekend in late April after a quick yelp of coffee shops in town. I'm so glad we picked this one of all the choices. This is a REAL coffee house. The whole place is stylishly decorated with repurposed antiques and can be described as vintage American industrial. Nothing looked cob job or like they cut corners. Everything looked very well put together and everything had its place. You can tell the owner really put a lot of thought and hard work into how the place looked and felt, which is something I think is missing from almost every coffee shop these days; ambiance and atmosphere. This place has such a great ambiance that my gf and I didn't want to leave. It's so cozy, especially the area in the back where the couches are. I had the house blend. This is how I judge a coffee shop. If you can't make a decent house blend, you probably can't make a decent espresso. Their house blend was very good so it passes my test. Smooth and full bodied. The staff was very nice and courteous as well. We talked to the owner, who was very nice, and he recommended we check out some other places around town, which we did. Anytime I am in Johnstown, I will be stopping in here for a cup and/or a pound. I'd give this shop 6 stars if I could. I wish there were more coffee shops like this one read more

July 6,2020 I went with a party(family and friends from out of state), we arrived at 9 am first with a few more people meeting us there, my party was on vacation and excited to patron the shop, and had been looking forward to the experience (the shop had been open since 7:30) the lights looked like they were off, outdoor seating had not been set up, there was only one worker, and the bakery display case was empty and filled with crumbs. We didn't receive any greeting as we entered the store, we asked if there were any bakery items to buy and if they were open. The worker proceeded to fill the case (at a very slow speed, not engaging with us at all, and without cleaning it out!) with a couple varieties of baked goods: almost all were clearly frozen. Not nearly the variety advertised through social media. Very misleading. We tried to engage with the worker and it almost felt like we were an inconvenience. My party ended up leaving the store without purchasing anything. Being a supporter of local businesses, and being in food service management for over 12 years, It was very disappointing. I have been there a few times since the shop opened. The coffee is never hot and the customer service is subpar. Members of my group said they would never go back. The concept if good but the place definitely needs work! read more
