Swung in to hang out and have a few drinks with friends. Service was friendly and amicable, space was clean, drinks were priced reasonably and a decent selection of beer. Entertaining selection of games to play with friends and no pressure to get in, drink, and rush back out. We spent a few hours there, including out on the back patio, which was a nice enough space though it started to get too hot. After some drinks with friends in Northside, we were all getting a little hungry and decided to head to Second Place to have a drink and some dinner. Priority #1: More booze. We started with slushes, I got to try the bourbon slush and the watermelon aperol slush. The bourbon slush was definitely my favorite, it's no wonder that this is a regular here (the other flavor rotates). The watermelon slush was decent, but sometimes the taste of aperol bothers me, so it started to give me a bad aftertaste (but if you like aperol, you'll definitely like it!). For food, I went with the 1/4lb burger and some fries. The burger was nothing fancy. I would describe it as typical bar fare. The fries were delicious though! I think next time I would opt for something different than the burger. I don't remember all the specifics on price point, but I remember feeling that the value was great. The staff was SUPER friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment you walk in. You could tell that the staff is on a first-name basis with a lot of their clientele. For drinks for food I would definitely come back to Second Place to enjoy some more bourbon slushes and good bar food. read more

Pre-pandemic, I frequented this establishment weekly for friendly get togethers. It's centrally located and not too expensive. Unfortunately, I recently visited for the first time since the pandemic and the experience was less than satisfactory, to say the least. In the past, my favorite drink here was whiskey sour with egg white. It was made to perfection. Last night, not only did the bartender refuse to make it, stating lack of egg whites, but also made the worst martini in the history of Second Place. The bartender claimed that they don't make cocktails because they are a sports bar. However, I find it hard to believe the the entire character of the bar change that fast and based simply on which bartender you ask. Honestly, I think he refused out of laziness. Maybe he was having a bad day. Idk. Anyway, when I went to close the tab, I noticed that one of my drinks was double the price. Upon inquiry, I learned that the bartender took it upon himself to give me a double and charge me for a double because I'd asked for no ice. Then when I asked him about it, he proceeded to curse and swear at me using a completely disrespectful tone. Call me Karen if you want (though I don't fit the entire definition of a Karen) but I had to speak to the manager about the horrible customer service I received. The manager proceeded to refund my drink and apologize on the bartenders behalf. The fact that she did it so easily makes me think they may have had issues from this bartender before. I just hope they clean house before that bartender's attitude negatively impacts the business any further. read more

This was the second stop of the night on a Northside Pubcrawl. Walking in the door, you are required to mask up when not drinking or eating and they check your vaccination status. This was the only bar that we visited (6 places total) that required these extra precautions. I actually appreciate their steps for safety! This location had bourbon slushes and a variety of beer on tap. I ordered a 50 West Hard Lemonade and it was delicious! The inside bar was a bit small for our group, so we went outside to the back patio and it was a great atmosphere. A couple people ordered food and I tried their fries - AMAZING! If you are looking for a dog friendly place with great food and beer this is without a doubt the best spot. Minute is minimal and do wish they had some green food but the burgers, wings and fries are killer good. You won't be disappointed. This place is for losers! HAHA! joking! I couldn't help myself. There are tons of what I can only assume are second place trophies decorating the bar which I find hilarious! This was a cool place to hang out. They hosted a meet and greet for regional artists and I thought the event was great. It was really intimate and held in a courtyard out back where they smoke chicken. The down side was I smelled like smoke when I got home but it was worth it. They serve alcoholic slushies' here which I find to still be a novelty in the area. There are two options: a Rose and Bourbon slushy. Along with the alcohol are various types of flatbreads that I found to be divine! OMG! There were so many options and I was able to try so many. I was in carb-heaven! I spent the entire time eating breads and socializing. This would be a great place for a group. I have been in the area many times but never noticed Second Place. Second place is a cool, unassuming, unpretentious but fun bar that is a great addition to the growing Northside scene. As you enter there is a long bar with a few scattered tables off to the side, and further in is a pool table and dart board. In the back is a small patio with a fire pit and ping pong table. A couple of large TVs show the local games. My friends and I often come here for a weekday game of darts, but more importantly for one (or four) of their amazing bourbon slushies. It's happening enough for Northside, and a nice place to end the night after bar hopping around at as it doesn't get too crowded and offers a good variety of things to do. The bartenders are a little slow here, but still a nice place to hang out. Went there Saturday night with a group of friends and the bartender, Juno, was very rude. Not attentive at all and was more worried about changing the channels on the TV while looking at the people at the bar and ignoring them basically. Easily my favorite bar in Northside. It's a great mix of sports bar and neighborhood hangout. I love that it's casual and there are always sports on, also the staff is super accommodating if there is a game on that you want to watch. I was really excited when this place opened in Northside. They have games of all kinds, and it's a really low-key place where you can go with a group of friends to play games. Good drink selection, too. My complaint is that the last two times I have gone, once in July of 2018 and also a year prior in July 2017, the bartender working delivered the most atrocious service that I've experienced in a really long time. Both times, the place was pretty empty, but the bartender (young woman, I do not know her name) completely ignored the 4 of us that were standing there waiting to order a drink, and continued her conversation with a customer.....for 20 minutes. It was so blatantly rude that it was hard to believe, but we tried to get her attention a multitude of times and were completely ignored as she chatted with another customer (she was not waiting on him, just having a conversation). Finally, the four of us left in annoyance and I'm pretty sure she didn't even notice....which is really saying something, because there were only 6 people in the bar at that time. It's not like she didn't have the time. When I was there a year ago, unfortunately the same bartender was working, and we got the exact same treatment. At one point someone in my party finally got her attention. The moment our friend sat down at our table, the bartender made a face at him behind his back in annoyance. Like a child. We ended up leaving that time as well, solely for the terrible customer service. When I went in 2018 I was hoping they'd have a change in staff because it really is a great place.....but they didn't, and her service has not improved at all. I have had some great experiences here with different bartenders, but she just has soured it for me and I don't think I'll be going back for quite some time because she always seems to be working. For a bar with only a few people in it, it really is not good practice to blatantly ignore your customers - it's really obvious that you didn't want to bother dealing with us and would rather socialize. Hope this place gets some better service and I'll look forward to coming back at that point. read more

Had such a wonderful first experience. What a fun relaxing(sports) bar in Northside!!! They show games on the TVs, have pool, darts and a massive patio!!!! My favorite part was the service though. The bartender gave us a warm welcome, told us all about the place and gave us some samples of the famous slushies... SO DELICIOUS!!! Then he kept bringing us water, checking on us, recommended food and was just overall an absolute pleasure to talk to. Menu is limited, but out of all 4 of us that were there, we all enjoyed our separate entrees. will definitely be back!!! read more

It's unfortunate because this had promise to be a great Northside bar, but on 4-5 occasions, the staff have been so incredibly rude that it just is not worth going back. Kept trying to give it new chances over the course of a couple of years, but the situation never changed. Most of the time it's being completely ignored while the bartender chats with customers and us waiting so long that we end up leaving, but there has also been an occasion of extremely sexist behavior from one of the bartenders. read more

They had ginger beer in it that was an excellent touch. We got some burgers and a pulled pork sandwich and it was all delicious. Also love that they had free, fresh popped popcorn. Great place to hang out with my husband, friends, or colleagues! The bartender was really friendly and helpful. There is a pool table outside and tons of board games. I recommend the slushies. They are known for their bourbon slushie which is delicious, and the pina colada slushie is worth the trip. Put the Second Place at the top of your list! read more
