And extra points go to Milton's for having Rhinegeist's Bubbles on tap. I had been looking for it ever since having a sip a couple months prior. I even took a pic of the tap handle because I was so excited. Then upstairs we played shuffleboard. I hate to admit -- I was a shuffleboard virgin before my trip to Milton's. And after playing ... I don't think I'll be leaving my day job to go on any shuffleboard circuits. But it was so much fun! We came across a birthday party of friendly folks to play shuffleboard with -- another plus. And while Milton's is a dive, it's a clean dive -- my favorite kind. If I lived in Cincy, this place would be my go-to. read more

Oh Mitlon's! Besides the bartender being a Browns fan, this place is as good as it gets! Only kidding, the bartender was sole-handedly running the place on what seemed to be a really busy Sunday night for them. College friends of mine recently rented out their upstairs for a surprise engagement party this past weekend. There is truly no other way to ring in such an occasion than bringing 30 of your closest friends to your favorite local dive bar. Downstairs was a cool vibe, but this particular evening was primarily spent upstairs. Touch Tunes, a pool table, table shuffle board, a nice deck off to the side for smokers...What else could you need? I also really love that the space is set up so that small groups of folks can chat, but you're still sharing the entire space with everyone. Drinks were super affordable and and service was quick. Milton's is Milton's and nothing else. A quaint little bar that is perfect in every way. I feel like Milton's was a bar set off a T.V. show because although it is totally a dive bar, it's not grimy or gross. It is beautiful and cozy. I grew up in the country and it was quite normal to have a neighborhood bar simply because there was no other bar. Milton's is quite the opposite, now that I live downtown there are tons of other bars but when I want a night away from all the chaos to feel home again, I come to Milton's. The bar is two stories and if you didn't know it was here you would totally miss it because it looks more like a house than a bar. It's right on the corner of sycamore right before you hit the bottom of the hill. Another great thing about Milton's is there is no expectations here. You can come with no makeup and in yoga pants and have a beer with the best of them, or come after a show all dolled up and shoot some pool. You will not be judged here. Milton's. The neighbor-"hood" bar as they call it. Around for over 10 years they were one of the first watering holes in the revitalized OTR area. To their credit, they haven't changed a bit. Drinks are dirt cheap. Like, literally, dirt cheap. This is one of those places you can come in and drink all night without having taking out a loan. Draft selection is small, but present. Cocktails are strong, and bartenders aren't pretentious. Make sure and play some music on the jukebox while sippin' on some drinks. The bar is two floors. Downstairs is the bar, upstairs is the a pool table, shuffleboard table, and Fooseball (sp?) table. There is also a small patio hidden in the corner. The only downfall to going upstairs, especially in the summer, is that it is ridiculously hot. Cheap drinks, great people, and fun times are all things found at Milton's. I have mixed feelings while I am writing this review. I want to love Milton's but a few things have kept me from doing so, but let's start with the good things! Pros: - Decent beer (often local) and spirits selection. - Friendly, knowledgeable staff - Really cool space including pool and shuffle board. Plenty of seating options! - Pet friendly!!! This is the biggest plus for me - You can bring in outside food - Often less crowded than other OTR bars and there is non-metered street parking - They host a variety of community events Cons: - Smoking. Despite it being illegal, people openly smoke often inside of Milton's. I find this very unappealing. - The clientele is hit or miss. They are either super friendly or rude and abrasive. You're never sure what you're going to get. One minute you're chatting with some cool people and the next a man is mooning someone out the window. So gross. - The bathrooms are not very clean and could use a good remodel/scrubbing Milton's typically isn't my first choice of where to go but I'm never against it either. However, I do dread my hair and clothes smelling like smoke when I leave. My friends and I would be much more likely to go if this was resolved. A great bar, a little off the beaten path. I recently had the joy of visiting Milton's on the corner of Sycamore and Milton at the base of Prospect Hill. This is a bit of a rustic tavern with beautiful exposed brick throughout the two story establishment. Upstairs you will find pool, shuffle board, and a couple of gorgeous brick fireplaces. Walked down on a Thursday night to try a couple of the Bockfest beers they had on tap before the weekend craziness began! This is a cool little neighborhood dive bar! Nothing fancy here just reasonable beer and simple cocktails. The crowd can really vary from any group, it definitely doesn't seem to have one stereotype. Its hit or miss how crowded it gets, but there is plenty of room at the bar, tables, and an entire upstairs complete with shuffleboard and foosball. The bar is pet friendly and had a nice waterbowl for the dogs inside. I do believe you are allowed to bring in outside food since they don't offer any. This is a fantastic neighborhood bar. It's no frills and cheap drinks. Most of the folks you'll find inside are from the neighborhood and know each other well. The layout is quite large. The bar itself is on the first floor, just inside the door. There is another room off the main room with additional seating as well as a staircase to the second floor that offers pool, shuffleboard and more seating. Got Bricks? Great bar that is on a San Franciso type hill. I got that feeling as soon as I walked in that this bar was going to hit the spot and I was right. A nice full bar stocked with lots of beers and liquor beckoned me to step up and have a drink. The man behind the counter was a young ball cap wearing guy with a good smile and a stiff pour of the drinks. The bar is not too small and not too big. There is a TV above the mock fireplace and was playing some football while I was there. I believe I saw a chalkboard that mentioned a 6-8 happy hour. I ventured upstairs and was glad to see a foosball table (the coin slot was stuck though), a shuffleboard, and a pool table. I am sure that this place gets busy on the weekend but on the Monday I was there (shout out for Vinyl Night!), it was empty. On the main floor is a combo arcade with Ms. Pacman and Galaga. Awesome! I played a few games of Pacman and loved every second; except for when those dangblasted ghosts got me! The women's bathroom was not working and so ladies (like my wife) had to venture into manland and use our bano. Overall, great dive bar with great people and entertainment. I went to Milton's for the first time over the weekend for a friend's birthday party. We had the upstairs room reserved for the party and our guests. I wouldn't say Miltons is anything special, but it is enjoyable. The upstairs room had pretty exposed brick walls, and a shuffleboard and pool table for entertainment. There was only one bartender to serve our party and all the other patrons downstairs, and she did a great job despite it being busy. Miltons allows guests to order their own food from elsewhere and have it delivered to the bar. Overall I see myself coming back here to enjoy a low key bar with affordable drinks, or to reserve the upstairs room for another party. read more

I love dive bars like Milton's. From the exposed brick, to the mix of people, this place really is a diamond in the rough. This is place where you can show up in your sweats straight from the gym and no one would bat an eye. They would welcome you to the seat next to them and watch the game on the TV with you for an hour. My first time here was great. I kept my drink simple and had a very strong vodka and diet. My husband had an magical concoction that included peppermint kahlua, vanilla vodka, irish cream, and cream. The bar had a large selection of liquor that made me wish it was Friday and not Monday night. Service at the bar was quick and friendly. The bartender didn't make me feel bad for switching to water and diet coke after my first drink. He didn't even charge me for the diet coke. Drink prices were great! I love that they have free WiFi. It allows me to surf the internet while my boys play records at Monday's vinyl night. This place isn't perfect though. The girl's bathroom was out of order the night we went there and I was forced to go into the men's restroom. Boy, I felt dirty walking out of there. Besides that this bar is quaint, I love this place for pure fact that it's right down the street from me. My signifiant other and I lately have been looking for spots that are not over crowded and a place for us to just drink and hear each other. I love that we can also do this without breaking my bank. Milton's is defined by being The Neighborhood Dive for Mt. Auburn. It's almost OTR's secret bar hidden away amongst nothing but residential units. Milton's is not a classy joint, a clean joint or really even that noteworthy. It IS a great place to hang out with your neighbors and drink very affordably. Local brews on draft, but you're not going to run into a Mixologist behind the bar. It's meat and potatoes at Milton's. Generally a very friendly place. Locals like to meet locals and chat. Everyone has a story and often, they start or end at Milton's around 3am. There are lots of places to catch a drink in OTR these days, but Milton's is one of the best to catch your last one of the night and they're rarely in a hurry to rush you out the door. If it's snowing in Cinci and you have no where to be the next morning, Milton's is the place I'd hole up for the eve. read more

They won't necessarily be here because I think this appeals to the types that are a little more professional and not concerned with fashion shows and underground crap. The people seem pretty cool without being too cool and the service is not as bad as others put it. They have a jukebox that's got some notable selections as well as a pool table upstairs with some crappy pool cues. They have both craft beers and the regular BS if that's your cup of...beer. A true dive but charming in its own way. The exposed brick and general oldness of the place makes it feel like you're stepping back in time. The bathrooms lock now, so that's a step in the right direction. Gone are the days of guarding people. I feel a twinge of nostalgia. It passes immediately. Last night was one of those lazy evenings where no definite plans were made and we weren't in the mood to stay out late. So we decided to venture out and see where we ended up. We stopped at a couple of local watering holes, but didn't stay very long at either. For our last stop of the evening, I was introduced to Milton's Tavern. My first question was "why haven't I been here before"? It is definitely an Off-The-Beaten-Path little dive bar on the corner of a hill that has a very small neighborhood rustic feel to it (which I love). We were welcomed as we entered by a friendly Yellow Lab that was lying on the floor at the feet of his master who was enjoying a late night beverage with his friends. A dog in a bar is always a good sign to me. The seats at the bar were full of locals who obviously go there often and know each other well. We ordered a night cap - which was very cheap, and I took a walk around to check out the place. It is an older building with exposed brick and original wood floors. Bottom Line: Since I'm not a 'local', I probably won't make it an evening out place, but I will definitely have it on my list of 'stop-in' bars. It is a diamond in the rough. read more

Milton's is quickly becoming my new favorite dive bar. It has every divey quality you could ever need...steady stream of regular patrons, cheap drinks, late hours, massive barricade on the door in case of zombie apocalypse (okay maybe I've seen Shaun of the Dead a few too many times on that last one...but Milton's really does remind me of The Winchester). Placed perfectly atop Prospect Hill Milton's Prospect Hill Tavern offers cheap drinks, tolerable beers on draft, a thriving "to-go beer" business, and late hours. I think what I love most about Milton's is that when the popular bars (Neon's, Japps, MOTR) are completely packed you can ALWAYS get a drink at Milton's and even play a few rounds of pool. Nobody's going here to be seen and that's a good thing. I was only there a short time and by the time I entered my judgement may have been....impaired. I blame the hill I had to walk up to get to it. My wife blamed the various beers and cocktails I drank at loud places on Main Street. This place, in comparison to Main St. Saturday night, was a quiet oasis with no crowd but a diverse group of folks who seemed happy to be away from the noise. They looked like neighborhood people. Our little group settled into an upstairs lofty area surrounded by bricks and history and a hangover of good times across the decades. If not for the humor? So I'm considering buying downtown. And with that in mind one of my requirements is a neighborhood bar in walking distance to the "next place." That has me checking out places, and the people inside, for the feel of the neighborhood. A few beers in and somebody thought a shot of tequilla would be a great idea. "She" drank it. My co-workers and I often stop by after work for a beer or two because of the location and availability of street parking. The upstairs room is almost always empty. They have a pool table and shuffle board. Drink prices are ok. They only have a few craft taps, everything else is bottles and cans. I had one craft beer and it was 6.50 which is a little pricy. I'm not sure how I've gone my whole adult life without going to Milton's until last night. We had a blast! The second floor was all ours which was really nice. We played pool (a dollar a game) and played music and had a grand time. It was a Sunday night and I enjoyed how empty it was. Not sure how busy it is Friday and Saturday. I hate-- HATE-- bars with jukeboxes, because inevitably it'll be monopolized by a Nickelback fan, and unsurprisingly that's the case with Milton's. I've never been in here and not wanted to rip my face off because someone's got horrible taste. However, the atmosphere kind of makes up for that. It's a good looking bar with warm lighting and that brick-and-wood look that I like. And dogs are allowed, so there's always something cute to look at. The second or third time I went here, a girl next to me told me that nearly everyone in the bar lived on that street, so it's the definition of a neighborhood bar. It's definitely in my bar circuit. When I find myself at Milton's it's usually pretty late, I'm bored, trying to find good stuff to talk about and sneaking out the back door to smoke. The space is rather nice, lots of exposed brick, beautiful bar and great downtown patrons. The drink prices are a little high but not ungodly. The upstairs often closed to the general public to host private parties but I'm pretty sure I remember a pool table up there. Be careful smoking out back in the rain. Milton's is a great bar. When OTR is overcrowded and you feel like you can't breathe, walking up a few blocks and ordering a beer from their bar feels great. It's low key, you don't get that shoulder to shoulder cramped feeling, and the building itself is great. Nice and old and comfortable. You can play pool and shuffleboard upstairs as well.
