During the process of accepting his bid I changed my mind a few times on some of the details and he was very patient and pleasant about all of my questions and changes. He is very easy to talk to and work with. From our first meeting when Andy came out to do the estimate I was so impressed with his obvious knowledge of deck construction and he explained all of the different aspects of choosing decking materials. We ended up going with Azek decking with Timber Tech composite railing with matching Azek drink rail for the top rail and it is just gorgeous! I couldn't be more pleased with it. After we get our backyard overhauled and in good shape I plan to have them do a new fence. There's no reason to look anywhere else for a deck or fence. Heilman Deck and Fence do a great job and are a pleasure to work with.

Andy came…read moreby and actually walked me through the whole process -- not just what he'd do, but why he'd do it a certain way. He explained where it made sense to invest a little more and where we could cut back without sacrificing quality. No pushy sales pitch, no checkbox quoting -- just someone who clearly knows his craft and cares about doing the job right. I had done some research ahead of time and knew my existing deck had a structural quirk that would matter during the rebuild -- Andy was the only one of the three contractors who caught it. That made the decision easy. His quote wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but it was fair and came backed with great reviews and a clean WA contractor's license (which, shockingly, not all of them had). That sealed the deal for us. We ended up completely rebuilding two decks using TimberTech PVC -- a smaller 10'x10' one, and a 26'x12' deck that's 20 feet in the air with two staircases and a landing. The whole project took about 3.5 weeks from demo to final touches. Andy's CAD drawings were spot-on. When surprises came up (like discovering the house's floor joists ran in the opposite direction), Andy just handled it -- added a beam, footings, and posts without delay or extra cost. Same deal with a couple small punch list items at the end (a dinged downspout, some siding, trim details). No fuss, no runaround -- his crew just showed up and made it right. The build crew was great to work with -- friendly, respectful, and meticulous. They kept the site clean and were clearly proud of their work. You could see it in the precision of the cuts and the fact that everything was perfectly straight, square, and level. Even the more delicate custom cuts -- like a half rip-cut board to fit under the house -- were nailed with crazy accuracy making it look like the boards extend under the house. Bottom line -- I'd 100% recommend Andy and his team at Heilman to anyone in the Seattle/Eastside area. If I ever need more deck or fence work (though this deck will probably outlive me), I won't even bother getting other quotes. These guys are the real deal.

I ordered a motorized awning from Lars-Erik Snadgren, the new owner of Seattle Sun Control. He was friendly and knowledgeable when he came. It took several days for him to send the bid. As soon as I got the bid on May 26, I paid for half of the order. Due to Covid 19, he said it would take longer than the normal five weeks, which was fine. The problems started when I contacted Lars-Erik on June 22 and asked he had heard from the manufacture about the status of the awning. He didn't respond. I sent another text on June 24. Still no response. I called several times and left messages. I sent an email on July 10 stating that I had not heard from him and that I was frustrated and would need to cancel the order if he didn't get back to me. I texted again on July 10. He sent a text saying that he'd call me that day. I left another phone message yesterday. It is now July 17 and I have not heard from him. I contacted my bank to dispute the charge, $2,719.47, half the cost of the awning. Two of my neighbors used Seattle Sun Control and were very happy with the service and the product. However, Lars-Erik Snadgren purchased the company this past spring. It is now connected to Sandgren Solutions a contracting company. Nobody answers the phone at either--both with Lars-Erik's voice on voicemail. Nobody answers the phone. I would not order from them again.

The sales rep, TJ, came to our home twice to talk about the product and specifics of our project. He was nice and knew the product well. He explained that they regularly use a specific electrical company which takes care of the final electrical work (since their installers are not licensed to do this). I told him that I'd appreciate the name of the electrical company as I'd like to talk to them about a couple other odds and ends we needed done (separate from the shade install). Anyway, approximately three weeks after placing the shade order, I get a call from TJ saying they are ready to install. Great! I asked him if he had confirmed with the electrician as well and he said "no, I forgot to do that, my bad" or something to that nature. In other words, he admitted to dropping the ball!! Ok, so I was on my own to schedule the electrician which was two weeks out. The install guys come out a couple days after speaking with TJ to put in the shades. They had to give us temporary power since they neglected to arrange with the electrician to come the same day, so we were left with non-code wires hanging all over the front of our home. When I called Greg, the owner, to explain my frustration he never apologized and instead put the blame back on me stating that there was a miscommunication on both sides. Not only did TJ admit to to me he had neglected this piece but how could I possibly arrange directly with the electrician when I didn't know when the shades would be delivered to their warehouse?!?? Greg talked over me the whole time and again put the blame back on me. So, two weeks later I finally am able to get the electrician to come out (they are busy with their own business) and he gets here only to tell me the installers didn't leave enough wire length to hide the electrical boxes on the sides of the house which I explicitly explained I wanted at least three times and which the installers ensured me they would. Still waiting to hear back from Greg, but I'm not too encouraged he will do the right thing based on his previous behavior and the fact that he already has my money. Save yourself the headache and choose another shade provider. There are many. Wish I would have gone with the other company I researched, Seattle Awnings. I will most definitely be using them for future projects. While the product is nice (most companies carry this same product) these guys are truly terrible. Do not give Greg your money.

We couldn't be more thrilled with the results!…read more The first contractor we contacted actually referred us to Timberline due to the size and complexity of the job. I had some rough drawings I had made using free 3D drawing software (look at the photos to compare the concept drawings to the final result). I showed them my ideas in December, we discussed materials, components, and pricing throughout January, and signed a contract in late January. They prepared architectural drawings in February and the engineering in March. By April we were in Permitting with the city and broke ground in late May. They knew we were planning a big party for Mid August so they worked feverishly to get it all done in time. Tony was our project manager and was great with communication. Lucas was our construction lead and Matt his assistant, and they both were great to have on the job, and they kept us updated daily with what they were working on and what was coming next. I was also impressed with their choice of contractors for the gas, electric, masonry, and painting, all did high quality work and were very professional, courteous, and respectful of our home and our neighbors. Throughout the project Tony (Project Manager) had great ideas on how we could improve things, and they were always very responsive to our wishes, working very hard to make sure everything was exactly as we wanted. For as much of an ordeal as it can be to have people working at your house for four months, they made it as painless and as stress free as possible. There we no major issues or concerns, and even the minor stuff was typically cleared up in one email or phone call. I can't imagine having a better experience. And the final result is absolutely amazing! We are on the patio every day and throughout the weekends, watching football, cooking, and enjoying hosting friends and family. It's made such a huge impact on our quality of life. I only wish we had done this sooner. The scope of the work was a 16x30 covered patio, plus pavers along the front and side, and a separate paver and fire pit area. The patio has 4 skylights, a ceiling fan, 12 recessed can lights, four 4Kw heaters, a 36-inch gas fireplace, 36-inch Hestan grill and dual side burners, Bose speakers, and a 70-inch Skyvue outdoor TV. The counter tops are granite, and the kitchen, built-in seating, and fireplace are covered in natural stone. The seating is topped with natural blue stone and has built-in storage areas underneath. The flooring is Mbrico porcelain tile and it is amazing! We've already had things like grease and even a bit of paint spill on to it, but everything just wipes up effortlessly with a little shot of Formula 409 and a paper towel. It's expensive, but if you want zero maintenance flooring that will last a lifetime, this is the stuff to get. I can't speak highly enough of Timberline patio covers and their entire team. If you are looking for top quality work, you won't be disappointed.

If you could describe Exteriors West with one word it would be "Outstanding" with a capital O. Dan, who is owner and installer, has got the installation down to a science. Dan arrived at my home around 8am to install a 16' X 20' aluminum patio cover which he flawlessly and meticulously installed by himself and completed around 6:00pm, Including cleanup. He has been doing this work for 25 years now and it shows! Do you remember the days of great customer service and honesty of business owners in the 50's? Well there are a few still out there and Dan is one of them. Maybe that is why the Better Business Bureau has given Exteriors West an A+. He completed the patio cover then proceeded to look over the cover with a fine tooth comb, wiping down the cover removing any finger prints or dirt he saw then he continued to look it over and painting any scratch or blemish with the factory touch up paint. Just this alone took about 45 minutes to an hour this is how meticulous Dan is and what kind of commitment he has to make everything perfect. When Dan started the job he put down sheets of cardboard and covered my deck with it to protect it. And at the end of the job he swept up his work debris and picked up the cardboard. He then blew off my deck with a leaf blower and picked up any stray garbage. My deck was left cleaner than when he got there. Then fit and finish of my cover is outstanding! From the planning, selection of materials and construction, Dan has been very patient and full of information and suggestions. If you need a patio cover, carport, RV cover, railings, window awnings, whether it be residential, commercial or industrial, Exteriors West is the company you want to go with. He said he does jobs all around Washington and told me he had just returned from a commercial job in Oregon. Sorry if this sound like a commercial but when I find a company that does an outstanding job all the way around, I have to tell someone. And today, you're that someone.
