Found out my passport was lost or misplaced one business day before international travel. Got same day appointment right away. Make sure you check out the list of documents you need before presenting them to the agency representative. One issue is a recent photo. My experience has been bad (take a long time) to get that from Walgreen (~ 1 hr) and CVS (25 min). Turns out there is a Instant photo booth set up inside the deli in the ground floor of the Passport Agency building. In and out is 5 min for $30.00. The quality of the pictures are much better than CVS or Walgreens as the booth is well lit with diffuse light. The photographer is well versed with the photo requirement. Can't brag enough about them -- safe me at least an hour and go around to find a place. Passport agency staff is very competent. In and out in 20 min. However, they asked me to come back after 2 PM to pickup the passport. They actually start to distribute the passport starting around 2:45 PM. So from 2 to 3 PM, the place is very crowded. read more

The Seattle Passport Agency opens at 8am, but they start letting people through security and up to the 6th floor a little early, which is great if you have the first appointment of the day. Appointments are now easy to book online, which makes planning more convenient. There are three parking options nearby, but street parking isn't really available or recommended given the busy surroundings. The staff were generally friendly, though I ran into a bit of frustration due to some rule changes that weren't clearly communicated on the official website. That kind of lack of transparency can throw off your timing, so it's something to be aware of. On the bright side, the pickup process was well-organized with a separate line, which made that part of the visit quick and smooth. I am upset but holding out hope, me and my husband applied at the same time with the same types of birth certificates we paid for expedited return due to are trip coming up fast. i received my passport fast however my husband did not a few weeks passed then he gets a letter saying his birth certificate did not have enough information on it and he needed to provide a different one. we sent for a new one out of California and waited 20 days for it to arrive, in the mean time i called and asked what can be done as we would not be able make the trip if we had to then send it to the center and wait for the passport to be shipped out. we where told to get it and call and get an appointment in Seattle and they could do same day so it came and we called only to be rudely told no he did not qualify for that since he already applied for his. then we where told he can call five days before the trip and maybe they could get him an appointment but its not guarantied. so now I'm wondering if we happen to get the appointment if they will even do same day like we where told and no one we call is helpful because we have gotten so many mixed answers. we have paperwork in hand but have to wait and we could send it off however not guarantied it will get back to us in time our trip is in one week and im feeling hopeless read more

They've had my application for 3 months. According to the phone operators they waited to start on it for two months and then insisted I come in in person and pay to expedite it. Additionally (and while not specific to the Seattle location) the agents on the phone were rude, unhelpful, and completely unwilling to acknowledge that any of their behaviors or missing their 6 week timeline were in anyway the agency's fault or even recognize how that might be frustrating. In the last week, I have spent three stressful yet lovely days at the Seattle Passport office. I have truly never experienced a more positive customer service experience with everyone from the guards in the lobby to the guards at entrance to the 6 or 7 people that helped me on Friday, yesterday, and again this morning. Not only did they all treat me with respect and empathy (in a situation that I could have probably avoided if punctuality of life tasks was not my #1 weakness), I spent many hours hanging out in their surprisingly comfortable chairs watching them navigate every type of emergency and person, all while multiple babies screamed in the seating area. In my final day getting to hang at their office, I burst into tears when they confirmed that I would be on my flight today and the person helping me reassured me it was OK, reminded me to breathe, and took extremely good care of me. I plan to drop off delicious chocolates from my trip once I return as a thank you and if anyone who helped me reads this, please know how incredibly grateful I am for not only how you treated me, but how you treat everyone. read more

Due to an unplanned travel logistical mishap, I found myself needing to get a passport renewal done in a single day. I wouldn't have thought this possible until I availed myself of the services at the Seattle Passport Agency. I scored a Monday morning timeslot and brought all required paperwork, forms, etc. with me to a 9:00 AM appointment and picked up a new passport at 2:45 PM. Now I can make my Tuesday morning flight. This place is a cluster but the employees that I encountered were great. It was a little confusing to me that I had to make an appointment but when I went everyone gets shuffled into a general waiting line to then get a number to be called again to have your documents processed. That part of the process did not make sense to me. The customers are a mess, there were so many folks waiting with shitty attitudes and cursing at the agents! It's not their fault that YOU did not have your paperwork together! As for my experience, I was in and out with my new passport in about 3-4 hours which to me was acceptable. I told my friend "I had a wonderful time at the passport office!" And she thought she heard me wrong. But I really did! I was so nervous going in to try and get my expedited passport (did I have the right paper work, was it filled out correctly, what of I did something wrong, I'm I in the right place?) But from the time I walked into the building it was like everyone there was actively trying to make my experience less stressful! From the security team in the lobby to Rachel and Andrew at the counter (who didn't mind me coming back to the counter to ask a probably silly clarifying question, but patiently explained information he had already given without making it sounds like I should have understood it before. I really appreciated that.) Then it was back to the lobby where they answered another silly question about how to exit (it's not hard, you walk out, but the gentleman there helpfully answered "you can just come through here"). They wished me a good day and that was it. Who would have thought that going to the passport office would be the highlight of my day! Writing this review because it sounds ridiculous. And it really is! *Disclaimer drove 4 hours to get here and 5 hours back* Went here to get my daughters and my passport renewed because our passports were expired. I have an international flight within the 14 day window. I get up there show all my documents PAID my fees. And was told I would be receiving my passport by mail in the few days (cool I don't leave for another 9 days) Here's the FUNNY part. The person at the counter hands me back my documents with my PAID RECEIPT. I look and see that our old passports were handed back to us with my documents (daughters birth certificate, etc) I ask him, "Are we allowed to keep our old passports I thought we had to surrender them?!?" He says, "No you're allowed to keep them" I was actually happy because I have a bunch of stamps that are sentimental but I wanted to double check so I said, "are you sure?!?" He confirmed that I was "good to go" A few days go by, I get a package in the mail. It's my daughter's passports but mine is missing??!?! I wait a few more days then I get a letter in the mail saying, "You need to give us back your old passport or we cannot issue your new one" WTF?!?!?! Mind you, I get this letter Thursday evening. So shipping my old passport back would not make it in time to get my new one back in time for my flight SMHHHHHHHHHHHH TLDR: Drove 8 hours and paid for my renewed passport only to find that they gave me back my old one and now missing trip because of their mistake. The reviews stating that they were able to get their passports without an appointment are outdated. They have changed their policy within the last 3 weeks and will only serve those WITH appointments or those who have a life or death emergency WITH a doctors note. Good luck even getting an appointment! We tried our luck and tried to do a walk in. Got there an hour early and waited for 40 mins. We were hopeful since we had sent in our passports approx 2 months ago and had a pending application. The paper on the signs stated otherwise saying that you could get served without an appointment if your application was already pending. Before the doors opened at 8AM we were all turned away by the passport manager if we did not have an appointment or a doctors note even though the signs said otherwise. We let the manager know our applications were in process and he said if we didn't have a doctors note we would not be served. Wasted a day driving from Oregon and taking time off work for them to not follow the signs they put out. We were able to snag an appointment in Seattle on 6/24. But we leave that night from Portland for vacation and they cannot guarantee that you will even get your passport that same day. What a waste. Vacation has been canceled. Side note- manager said we should come in on 6/23 without an appointment and walk in and they should have our passports by the next day when we leave. What difference does a week make? UPDATE - I'm updating my 1-star review to 4-stars for two reasons: 1) The Seattle Passport Agency absolutely came through for me and my family, saving us thousands in rescheduling costs for our international flight. I was able to get in last Thursday (I think) and got my son's passport this Tuesday! 2) As I learned, my initial 1-star experience was more with the National Passport Information Center, which is the phone number you're told to call if you don't receive your passport within the expected processing time... they still get 1-star because my whole experience with them was terrible. ---------------- Now, as for why I'm not giving them 5-stars. 1) No appointments - no matter how we tried, my wife and I could not get any appointments for the life of us. 2) When there are a lot of people, it gets chaotic - with people just forming huge groups outside the building. Not really clear on where to go or who to talk to. 3) No info online about being able to walk-in WITHOUT an appointment. This was huge, because everything online said you NEED an appointment. Which seems to be true for the most part. But if you're like me, and already had a passport in-process that was passed it's estimated processing time, then you can go there and just tell them that that's what you have going on. Idk if we just got insanely lucky or what, but my wife and I went there with everything prepared to submit a new passport application as a sort of Hail Mary since we couldn't get any appointments, our son's passport was nowhere to be seen, and our departure date was rapidly approaching. ---------------- But everyone at the Seattle Passport Agency that we interacted with was very nice and helpful. Went in the second time, come to find out they wanted more even with the combination of documents I brought in with me. It looks like under normal circumstances things are easier, but it's impossible to book an appointment here right now. Worse bureaucracy than the DMV. There is no number to book an appointment and the passport appointment site has shown no appointments now for the past week of trying. This despite the fact that we were told multiple times over the phone that this would be the best way to get the renewal in time given we found out it was expired 3.5 weeks before our travel. This was our last hope and it looks like there's no way to book with them :( UPDATE: There are still 0 appointment slots available day after day for any of the Passport Agencies across the country. So we decided to do what many here seemed to recommend, and drove up from Portland to get here before they opened (arrive at 7:30, get let in at 8:00am). We drove hours to get up there, so we can have our passport in time to visit family we haven't been able to see since the beginning of the pandemic (we're both vaccinated now). The first woman who saw us was unnecessarily rude, and told us she could do nothing for us. Pointed to the phone to make an appointment knowing full well that the number it connects to the same generic robomachine you get on the main passport site. Which at the moment doesn't even allow you to make reservations. So we decided to speak to another representative who was markedly nicer. He at least tried to help out, but their policy right now sounds like "life or death" medical emergencies are the only people they're interested in helping. There were about 6-8 people working and maybe 4 groups looking for a passport in the office in the half hour that were were there. Not busy by any stretch. If you're going to implement a hard-and-fast policy like this, the very least you can do is inform your call center people and update the websites. It's insulting to everyone's time. 2nd UPDATE: This agency was able to print and overnight my passport and I am able to make my trip! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!!!!! UPDATE: I've spent over 12 hours on hold only for the NPIC to tell me they can't get any appointments or do anything to help. I did on Friday speak to my Senator's office who was able to get in touch with the Seattle passport agency and was told they would get it out on Friday. She called me back and said they needed my credit card for overnight shipping which I gave her right away and she forwarded it to the agent in Seattle. My card has still not been charged so I'm assuming my passport is still there. PRAYING the agent she is working with pulls through and gets it out Tuesday morning for overnight delivery Wednesday. My honeymoon is Thursday and we lose all of our money if we don't make it. My passport renewal has been here for 8 weeks. I paid for expedited. My NON REFUNDABLE HONEYMOON is next week and I can't get anyone to help me. I've called the 877 number over 50 times in the last 3 days. There are no appointments anywhere in the US. I drove up to Seattle in order to receive an expedited passport. They really attempt to make the process seamless by being very clear about what items to bring with you and are transparent that you may not receive your passport the day of. I had a 9:30 AM appointment and arrived at 9:00. There was a long line that extended outside of the building that you wait in. Once they have openings, they'll move people inside to go through security and then head upstairs. You wait in line after passing through security to receive a number. Once your number is called they'll check your required documents and then you pay the necessary fees. I think I finished the process around 2:45 PM. Depending on when they can make your passport, you'll come back to pick it up. I ended up needing to come back the next day at noon for pickup, because of how late it was when my number was called. There is a separate line for passport pickup which is super helpful! Overall, employees were nice, helpful and tried to make the process as smooth as possible within reason. My only complaint would be that I wish they gave you a heads up about the line and that the appointment times weren't really relevant. My recommendation would be to get there much earlier than your appointment time because the passport office closes at 3:00 PM and you end up spending a few hours in line depending on when you get there. The sooner the better, especially if you're from out of town and wanting one the same day! read more

This review is for the downtown agency, not the government travel website. I'm writing this in hopes it can be helpful to someone in a similar situation as mine. I accidentally threw my passport away when moving. My upcoming trip was a few months a way and the standard waiting time would not work for me. Online appointments are not being taken because bots were snagging them up for independent passport agencies. The government website said to call to reserve an appointment. I tried calling for weeks at different times of the day with no avail. When you get the phone prompt to press "2" to continue the call, it drops with a busy signal from them. Every. Single. Time. After reading a review by another person who said they were able to secure an expedited passport with no appointment, I thought, "What the heck! It's worth a shot!" Here's what I learned. When you get to the passport agency there are two lines. One for people with appointments and another for those without and traveling Internationally within 3 business days. You MUST have proof of that travel in the form of an itinerary from the airline which shows your name and date of travel. Other documents are filled out passport applications (you can find them online and print them out ahead of time) Proof of citizenship, photo ID and passport photos. At 8am sharp they open and let the people with appointments go in first. After about 20-30 minutes the walk-in's are let in. You'll go to a check-in window first to review/organize and make sure you have the all the necessary documents needed. You'll be assigned a number, and when called they review everything and you'll make payment. Mine was $205 (credit card, checks or money order) Today is Wednesday. I'm to pick up my passport this Friday and my trip is on Saturday morning. I got there around 6:30am (they open at 8am sharp) I was the second in line and it starts to get longer around 7am. The staff here are professional, helpful and very efficient, especially with how many people are needing help with their passports and no real help from the call center. They do a really great job. It's very appreciated. Other things to note: Do not forget your face mask. You won't be let in without one. You'll go through something similar to airport security. You'll have yourself and your belongings go through screenings. Do not have any weapons on you (gun/knives/pepper spray) or drugs. It's will all be confiscated. I did not need to show that my travel was "life or death" or "work related" only that I was traveling internationally in 3 business days. I hope this helps and good luck! read more

Had a terrible experience today. Went in for a re-application for my daughter's existing in-process application. Was directed to counter 3, manned by a gentleman with long hair, light stubble and glasses. He was extremely rude, kept shouting, cutting me off during my sentence and requesting to see the child (not required for re-applications), without trying to understand what I was explaining. Finally the gentleman next to his counter (#4) came to help, who was initially a bit stern but upon listening to my issue apologized and directed me to the appropriate person. Let alone the highly rude behavior that I had to deal with, it was the incompetency leading to my review here. Highly suggest retraining of the employee or hiring a more competent/customer friendly one. read more

I don't even know where to begin. Today is Monday. My humanitarian / work trip departs Wednesday at 5 am. I realized Sunday that my passport was missing. In sheer panic I did all the research I could which said wait until Monday, 5 am EST. When I called for to schedule an appointment the CSR were great and did what they could, however their policy is an appointment within 24 hours (Tuesday at 5 am EST, keeping in mind my departure airport is 4 hours away from the nearest passport office) I stuck with my gut and drove straight to the passport office just in time for opening. Even though I didn't have an appointment, the staff was so kind and patient (even though I was probably in the middle of a panic attack) I waited for 45 minutes as they saw everyone who had appointments. When it was my turn I was in and out in 10 minutes, and the agent even gave me some cool recommendations while abroad. I was done before 9:30 and told to come back at 2 to pickup my passport. Sure enough, I returned at 1:30 and had my passport by 1:45. Im sure this office does this 1000x a day but they have no clue what miracles they just performed in such a high stress situation. They know what they are doing when issuing passport in urgent cases while dealing with confidential information related to National security. Please be considerate in your application by having all supporting documents ready. They can't issue a passport to anyone without the relevant proof you are who you are. Photo service is available at 1st floor cafeteria. I have an appointment and it's very hard to get one especially before peak travel seasons like Spring break, summer, and Christmas etc. Do they allow walkins??? The answers are mixed here but it doesn't b hurt to try in case of emergency. Try to collect proof like doctors' notes to support your case.
