Make sure you check out the list of documents you need before presenting them to the agency representative. One issue is a recent photo. My experience has been bad (take a long time) to get that from Walgreen (~ 1 hr) and CVS (25 min). Turns out there is a Instant photo booth set up inside the deli in the ground floor of the Passport Agency building. In and out is 5 min for $30.00. The quality of the pictures are much better than CVS or Walgreens as the booth is well lit with diffuse light. The photographer is well versed with the photo requirement. Can't brag enough about them -- safe me at least an hour and go around to find a place. Passport agency staff is very competent. In and out in 20 min. However, they asked me to come back after 2 PM to pickup the passport. They actually start to distribute the passport starting around 2:45 PM. So from 2 to 3 PM, the place is very crowded.

Which I did, and it took all of 20 minutes to get my passport renewed. They were stating I needed to get additional proof of identity before they could process my renewal (I of course didn't need this; the state department was very helpful and the list of things they said to bring in the confirmation email, was exactly what they needed to renew my passport.) The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars, is that they refunded my money so all I did was waste an hour. But, poor customer service in my opinion. Just go directly to the state department (all these guys do is help you fill out the application and send along to the state department anyway). If they are going to sell this service, they should at least be able to accurately tell you what to bring when you come in.
