I have been using the services provided by AA Travel for more than 20 years, and it has been unfailingly an effective and pleasant experience. They asked a colleague in SF to hand deliver a passport/visa once when I made a mistake with a travel date. They answered an emergency call outside of work hours to help when my ticket was canceled erroneously by the airlines. They are very professional and really know the work well, and I have been able to rely on them for my travel needs. They do have a "no nonsense style" which some people find to be not warm enough, but they are actually very nice people, and if you realize that it is but the surface (accent, tone, etc), what they can do for you is great. I called a few other travel agencies. No live person, "by appointment only." I called AA travel and Ken picked up. It was after closing time but he heard what I needed which was to review my self-made itinerary and see if it worked (From Seattle to Indore India). He got back to me the next day and had come up with a new flight itinerary (mine wasn't going to work). He was sensitive as to where what airport I was to sleep over and reworked the itinerary to be at an English speaking country/airport. He answered all my questions and my flight plans were finalized within a day and my itinerary complete. Total cost was way below what I had anticipated. This travel agency claims to be an old-timer in Seattle's Chinatown, but one of the travel agency CHIRS service attitude is extremely poor. They not only lost the customer's documents but also insisted on their innocence and even verbally abused the customer. They accused the customer of making things up and showed no concern for their needs. They were quick to take the money but evasive when problems arose. It is truly shocking. They usually have pretty decent fares going to Asia, but their customer service needs some work. I booked my August trip to Asia a few months ago, but I somehow keep having to call them back to check up on flight changes because my friend informed, but I was never notified by AA Travel. That definitely should've been their job to update me via email or something otherwise I could've missed my flight. Calling them usually is a hassle too, because not only do they transfer me a few times, they always put me on hold... like just now, she asked to call me back because she was working with another customer. Why don't they have more travel agents then!? Their in-person customer service is much better though, but I do think they have work to do over the phone. read more

AA Travel always help me to find a good deal of the tickets and I am always happy with the price and it is much easier than I do online booking especially I travel for international with differences location in one trip! Recently my son need to book a ticket to Vienna study aboard and the ticket online was over a thousand dollar and after the program my son will need to fly to Düsseldorf to visit my aunt and fly back to Seattle. ~~~This business is UNLICENSED~~~ Buyer be aware. This business is not currently licensed with the City of Seattle or the State of Washington. I had the unfortunate experience of using their service to obtain a China Visa. On 8/20/19, They quoted me $195 for a China Visa. I was told that because I have a Chinese surname, I better opt for the "expedited service" for an extra $60 fee because the San Francisco Chinese consulate will scrutinize ethnic Chinese applicants more closely for dual citizenship. Before I paid, I asked how soon I can get my passport back if I paid extra for "expedited" comparing with Normal processing. Ling, the Cantonese lady told me "expedited" is 6 days and normal is 3 weeks. As I was contemplating a trip to Korea for Labor Day weekend, I paid for the "expedited" service and paid them $255. On 8/26/19, I called them to get an update on the status and informed Ling that I have a trip coming up. She said she can't guarantee I can get it back before labor day, but she could pull my passport back and return it so I can make the trip but I will need to pay her $255 again when I am ready for the Chinese visa application. On 8/28/19 and 8/29/19, I physically go down to the office two days in a row and was told because of the fact that I have a Chinese surname, I would not be able to get my passport back for another week. On 9/3/19, I called and was told my passport will be ready in "a couple of days". On 9/6/19, I visited their office and was told my passport will arrive the next day from San Francisco. On 9/9/19, a full 3 weeks have lapsed since I paid them. I finally got my passport back. When I opened my passport to the visa page, guess what it says? "ISSUE DATE: 28AUG2019". So, I asked Ling very politely: "I paid $60 for the "expedited" service, why does it take so long for it to arrive back in Seattle if it was issued on 8/28/19?" She immediately got loud with me and rudely said that I am accusing her of lying. She asked me for the hand-written receipt to prove that I indeed paid for the "expedited" service. Apparently, she wasn't even aware that she collected the extra fee. That would explain why it takes 3 weeks for them to get my passport back. I told her that she persuaded me to pay extra for the "expedited" service but failed to deliver it back in the timeframe as promised. I asked her for evidence that it was mailed out by express mail as she claimed that the extra fee is for the passport to be mailed out by FedEx. Even USPS would give you a receipt to show how and when you send out a mail. I think this is a very reasonable request to ask her to prove that she indeed sends everything out in a timely manner. Her reply was that I, as a consumer, have no right to know how she mail out my passport and that she doesn't want me to know who the "middle person" in SF is. I was shocked by this response, not only because she is saying that I have no right to know. But more alarming is that all of my personal information (Passport, Driver's License, Address, Date of Birth, Employment, Education background, Travel history, Birth Certificate, Parent's Information) were all sent to a "middle person" without my consent. How do I know this "middle person" is not a criminal and that my personal information will not be shared with any other parties? There is no accountability or privacy policies in place between this travel agent and the "middle person". When I gave A A travel the documents, I was misled into believing they are the one sending everything to the Consulate directly. There is no transparency on how they run this service from the customer's perspective. As Ling was getting belligerent, I asked to speak with someone who is calm and not screaming. This gentleman, possibly named Ken, then came over and said that I can't get the $60 refunded and suggested that I take them to Small Claim court to get the $60 back. I noticed that they don't have any business license posted in their office, so I told them that they are legally obligated to have their license posted in place of business. Ken then told Ling to pull the license from their drawer. Ling, perhaps thinking it is professional to be ironic said "We are unlicensed" while digging out their WA state DOR license that expired 01/31/19. They also said that if I want to complain, I can go online and complain. They claim that I am the only person complaining about them. After doing some research. I found out that they are not even a licensed business in the City of Seattle and apparently dissolved as far as the WA state is concerned. Can you really trust a business and spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on them if they can't even fulfill their own legal obligations to be licensed and pay their taxes? I would urge everyone to find another travel agent and not to support this illegally run unlicensed tax-evading business. read more

I bought a ticket to Jerusalem and Istanbul from Ling. The flight there was fine, but on the way back, the airline canceled the flight and shuffled us on to another one almost a full 24 hours later with no reimbursement for hotel or food while we were waiting. I called Ling about the incident and she was able to talk to the airline to negotiate an earlier flight (about 90 mins later than original departure) on one of their partner airlines to get us home. I have to say Ling and Ken have done beyond a travel agent would do. Our family of 10 booked tickets for a SE Asia trip in July, three days before we took off, Eva Air sent out a text message that our flight was canceled due to their crew strike. Ling was able to get our whole group of 10 on a same flight by Cathy Pacific. She worked late night and until early next morning to make sure we all 10 were able to fly out on the same flight without any delay. We were all happy and really enjoyed our trip. ***BEWARE*** AA Travel acts like a SCAM ***BEWARE*** This review is coming from my family and I who have been customers of AA Travel the past three vacations. I urge all future AA Travel customers to think very carefully before committing to this local travel agency. Going on vacation should be a stress-free and relaxing experience, which we had experienced the first couple of trips booked thru AA Travel. Of course, when things go right and nothing is wrong, no one has any complaints of a business, which is probably why you see some high ratings for this travel agency. However, when issues arise with the reservation, you expect your travel agency to step in and help lead the problem to resolution. Just like when a person's true character is revealed during hardships and stressful situations. AA Travel's true colors revealed themselves when they and their partners Nexus Holidays DID NOT honor the contract agreed at the time of purchase, thus leaving their customers stranded with limited choices, but to shell out additional money in an attempt to remedy the situation. For example: Tour contract clearly noted that half day tour is included along with airport transportation provided. Tour contract noted that some attractions were OPTIONAL. However, when we arrived, we were forced to pay an additional $400 per person for what was written as "optional" tours. The tour guide threatened to not let us on the bus unless we paid that fee. The last time I checked the dictionary, optional does not mean mandatory. When we contacted Nexus Holidays, Grand Holidays as well as AA Travel during our time abroad, they refused to honor what was agreed in the contract, leaving my family and I stranded looking for alternative options on the day of. Can you imagine how frustrated and stressed out we were? Would you ever wish that upon your family and friends who book with this travel agency? Of course not! Imagine your travel agency leaving you hanging when you have attempted to email and call them internationally multiple times hoping that they can help resolve the issue for you. When booking the tour in person at their International District office, they rushed us to submit additional payments. But when you need their help, they ignore you. Please, please, please exercise all caution booking with Ling and Ken at the office. It saddens me to have to write such a negative review for a travel agency I used to praise, but I would not be doing my fellow travelers (especially the elderly Asian travelers in the local Seattle area) any justice if I remain silent about this. You may save a couple or few hundred dollars total (mind you we did not save much on this trip considering how we were victimized by their fraudulent tactics that we found out about during the trip), but understand that you get what you pay for. If all goes well, that money saved is worth it. However, pray that nothing unfortunate happens with your reservation because that is when you will have wished you paid a little more for not experiencing such a hassle. At the end of the day, we all want to have a memorable traveling experience with our family and friends. We wanted to give AA Travel another chance to make this poor situation right and we did what Ken wanted us to do, which was to email him exactly what happened when we returned from our trip. We emailed him and have been waiting for a response for over the past month and to this day, still no response. We provided all paperwork with evidence on the attempted fraud they and their partners have committed and it appears that they have placed no priority in handling their mistakes in a professional manner. If your parents, grandparents, relatives and friends have mentioned anything about booking with AA Travel, please make sure they understand the potential consequences for doing so. I know many people who have gone here have not had the greatest experience. I can certainly understand why. I have been buying tickets to Japan from AA travel since 2003. For the most part I have to say i have gotten incredible customer service. Especially since I am not the sort of person who can just blow a couple of hundred bucks without thinking about it. Instead I am the sort of person that has to come in 3-5 times, call and ask several questions and have a few emails exchanges too. Before I am sure I am getting the best deal and thus part with my money. Now to be fair i have bought tickets from Yuki, Ken and Sayuri over the years. Those people have bent over backwards to give me the best service possible. However I have had the misfortune of going in from time to time when they weren't available and had to speak to one of the other associates. Let's just say if I had not had those good prior experiences before bumping into one of these people this would be a far different review. So here are a few tips for your first trip to AA travel. 1. Sayuri explained that one of the reasons that they have tickets so cheap compared to other places is because AA travel buys or reserves a certain number of bulk tickets before they go on sale to the general public. Making them cheaper for both them and us the customers. That said they have to sell those tickets fast and with the cheap price that isn't so hard! So if you are serious about doing business I recommend just walking in and seeing what the cheapest price is (normally posted outside) and talking to them face to face for your first interaction. 2. That said don't just talk to anyone you see. Clearly that is not a good idea. Currently they have it arrange so the friendly people are on the right side of the room and the not so friendly on the left side. So if there is no one on the left side available grab Yuki, Ken or Sayuri's business cards and call them later to see when they are available. 3. Because the tickets are generally cheap does not mean they are always cheap. The bulk tickets they have are only good for a certain time period. So before talking to them. Get a good idea of your dates of travel, where you want to go and all that. Also Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the cheapest days to travel with AA Travel. So also try to be a bit flexible if you can afford to. 4. Finally it is best to pay in person. These guys are kind of old school in that way. But they aren't charging you service fees like they do online so just bite the bullet and go in. Now I have to talk briefly about my most recent experience and my travel agent Yuki. Yuki personally deserves 5 stars. She is patient, friendly and very understanding. I simply love her! She worked with me over the course of a week to get me the best deal on two tickets to Osaka Japan. Even though we couldn't get the cheapest tickets possible (a total of $1800 for two round trip tickets none stop) because of our very specific dates. She was still able to save us $600 dollars compared to online prices. Better though is that we got everything we wanted/needed with our tickets. -Non-stop from Seattle to Osaka -Round trip good for 6 months and an extension only cost $250 each. -Boeing planes - She still saved us $600 compared to online prices with multiple stops on Airbus. Simply perfect!!! She also heard I threw by back out last week and she gave me a call and advise on how to have a comfortable trip to Japan because she once had a similar experience! I called them back a couple of times, but they told me that my agent, Ken, was not around. They did not respond to several emails either. It was stressful because they had my credit card details and I was not sure whether they charged me or not. I was also overseas, so I could not easily call my credit card company to verify. I was serviced by Ling. She helped me secure a flight on Eva Air from Seattle to Kuala Lumpur on a last minute basis (like 3 days before departure) and at a cheap rate ! Prior to that, I was not able to book online as the tickets were 'sold out' and the rates quoted online were more expensive than what I paid at AA! I had a pleasant experience dealing with them. After reading a few of the poor reviews, my suggestion and advice to potential customers is to know your exact travel dates/period, and know what your priorities are ie whether you want the cheapest ticket , or you'd want a specific airline to travel with or you rather choose the least number of transits. Having all these information at hand will save you a lot of agony when dealing with AA. In my experience, Ling was very efficient and straight to the point (no beating round the bush here), but in no way rude. They are so busy that they have no time for small talks, something which I personally dont care for. I was researching for tickets to Asia for the summer, and I read that travel agencies tend to be cheaper than purchasing from online sites (i.e., Expedia, etc). I had already been perusing Expedia for various flights, so I figured I might as well give a travel agency a try. I walked in knowing where I wanted to travel to, what dates, and what my budget was, but wasn't sure how the process would go. I stood at the entrance for a bit, not knowing what to do, until one of the people behind the desks asked me if I needed help with something. I told the woman, Sachi, that I was looking for a flight on a specific day. She helped me look up several options, given that I was trying to get specific arrival and departure times. Sachi was super patient, especially since it seemed like looking up flights took a while. Since I was purchasing for multiple people, I had to confirm the flights with my friends before purchasing. She was able to put my tickets on hold for a week, which was really convenient! After purchasing, I received an itinerary/invoice, but I had to call the actual airline to get the flight information. The flight information also changed once since I purchased, and Sachi called to let me know, and even sent an updated itinerary. Purchasing through the agency rather than online definitely saved me at least $500 per person! NOTE: I recommend having an idea of where you want to go, what days/times, your budget, and also having the full names (including middle initial) and birthdays of all the travelers you're purchasing for ready before you visit! My sister and I needed some VERY last minute tickets to Taiwan and was having trouble finding tickets under $2200.00 online so we decided to drop in to AA yesterday morning on a whim. I'm so glad we did! We didn't really know what to expect when we walked in as it's our first time booking tickets from a travel agency instead of online. Ken saw us standing (most likely looking super confused) and immediately offered us his help. We sat down and briefly told him what we wanted and he started typing away on his keyboard right away looking for the best flights at the best prices for us. About ten minutes in I realized we didn't even tell Ken our destination city and he had been wasting his time looking for tickets to the capital but he was so patient and understanding about it all. Once I had an awful experience with travelocity when a flight is canceled and the flight I booked changed after I made the payment. I ended up turning to AA Travel for help. Today i've visited this place the first time, because my friend bought air tickets through them. After I explained what I need, the woman started filling up the form to find tickets. she asked something, that i didn't understand clear enough, so I clarified. *She takes pen and starts to write the names of the cities and talks to me with kind of raised voice.* Frankly she was yelling at me. The rapport was a little bit lost. She saw my reaction and said: "I don't understand why you are so dissatisfied". I said: "Because you are rude". This was followed by the response with huge attitude: "No, I'm not" Wow! That's service! After all, other guy was helping me, but I did not want to spend a penny there. What this place has to offer is cheaper airplane tickets to Asian destinations, usually even cheaper than online brokers like Experia and Orbits. They also take care of your Visa applications, etc. There are many other similar local travel agents. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that AA and Jade Holiday Travel normally have the better deals: AA folks are way more friendly, yet ~60% of the time Jade can beat AA by another 5 or 10 bucks. AA does make mistakes. They once got the dates wrong, and when we called their employee tried very hard to point fingers back. One such event is normally enough to drive us away for life, but since I kinda know their owners (from going there many times for many years) i gave them a couple of tries afterwards. I went to book my honeymoon tickets to Japan and the lady who helped us - Yuki, was extremely helpful. She was from Japan and had good tips on getting good ski packages, even though they don't sell them at their agency. She was patient with all of our questions, and looked up all the different combinations for airlines and dates we asked for, to check the for best price. Given that others have commented on the poor customer service, perhaps it is important to get the right agent. Yuki was great. We ended up getting a price about $60 less (per person) than what we found online, and it took us about 25 minutes at the agency to sort it all out. With the savings, and the useful tips for travel in Japan, I thought that it was good value for the extra time I spent. read more

I'm the type of traveler that usually prefers to "go my own way", and do all of my own planning, but the premise of planning my own trip to Vietnam seemed a little daunting since there are no direct flights from Seattle to Saigon. After reading the Yelp reviews, I contacted AA Travel in the International District Minh, a Vietnamese expatriate, helped me to find flights that were hundreds of dollars cheaper than I was able to find myself online. He gave me advice on the paperwork that I'd need to travel there. In addition, AA Travel also threw in a free bus tour of Seoul during my layover in Korea! Don't expect hand-holding like a full-service travel agency - but for the traveler that likes to do their own research, you can get excellent deals here. read more

If you can, find your own best deal. They might be able to save you some dollars, best to know your preferred flights/airlines/dates. You'll get the customer service one would expect at a Chinese restaurant. If you don't expect any higher, then probably you can only get pleasantly surprised. Maybe. Mostly by the price, as they've been known to save me some money in the past. But last flight we took using AA was comparable in price online, and on an awful domestic carrier. I do understand that AA Travel is located in the ID. That is why I was skeptical in the first place when our friend recommend his travel agent to us. I called four times, two different days. Naturally, I was asked if I speak Chinese and when I replied no I was interrupted by a click sound and turned out, transferred to someone who spoke English. I had to leave messages for the agent I was referred to. Eventually, after waiting for him to get back to us and then having to call back and not getting responses I took that as a sign that they didn't want our business. At the point that I did get in touch with him, he took the information for our honeymoon and said he would call us back. That was almost two weeks ago. I haven't heard from him since. read more

I have had to travel to China for work many times over the years and I was told about A A. I didn't want to go to the web to book the tickets because I had heard about the high prices. So I asked friend and started researching. I chose A A and visited their office for the first time about 10 years ago. It was kinda fun buying tickets in China town in SEA, because it is a little like China, so it felt authentic. The office was very busy and has a bunch of travel posters on the walls and pamphlets everywhere.. Their phones are ringing like mad and all the agents were on calls when I arrived. I was greeted once I entered and it took about 5-10 minutes before I got to sit down with an agent. I think I met the two owners, a cheerful man and his wife. I sat down with him and began to tell him about my trip and how I had NEVER been to Asia and I was stressed..! We immediately hit it off. They completely took care of me, from the Chinese Visa to booking the tickets and hotels. They even helped with a translator who became a close friend after our adventures.. I am NOT a travel fan so these trips for work had to be perfect, even in a country where I spoke zero of their dialect. Every trip was a 100% success. The A A travel team was also able to give me some contacts for resources, like a driver to and from the airport, who also became a close friend... I gave them 5 stars because they truly care about peoples experiences. I have a deep love for China after traveling there for years and I need to thank AA for helping make it an incredible part of my life. Last praise... Fly first class if you can to China, I didn't do it for the first several times until I worked with A A to get the tickets for the best price I have ever found! TERRIBLE customer service. First of all, my brother emailed them for flight details. They responded with a dollar amount and some not helpful information. My brother got mad and told me to call AA travel on his behave. When I first called, he said he'd call me back. Half an hour later, I called again. He told me their system went down and had to call me back in a few more hours. I tried really hard not to put any bad words in this review, but I'm NOT happy with AA Travel. read more

I had an upcoming event and I needed to arrive Taipei, Taiwan before March 27th. The male agent was rude and told me that the only choice "I HAD" was departing on March 31st via United Airline. I told him that I would miss the event by then. (Plus, without mentioning to him that I really don't like United Airline) The agent kept saying that "I" didn't have a choice. I got very irritated with his service and told him that I did have choices to go elsewhere. I was glad that I went elsewhere and found a much better and nicer travel agency in downtown. I got a good departure date, a good rate, and a better airline for my trip. This was my first time and my last time to stop by this travel agency. read more
