My husband and i stopped in last weekend after an 11 mile run. So, we were starving... We chose two BBQ Pork sandwiches. While waiting, we picked out a freshly packed green papaya salad and tofu summer rolls. With sandwiches, this lunch was more than enough for two people. Best part: It only cost $10.50! Such a deal! And, just delicious!! Everyone there was friendly and the store was just bustling. We admired the colorful desserts and a nice customer told us what each one was. The doors to the kitchen swung open often revealing a clean and busy operation. It's easy for us to get to from Greenwood and I am angling to go back this week for the rice crepes and sticky rice. I come here when I'm super hungry and don't have time to cook or don't want to cook. I love their "bhan mi" (grilled pork or the "special"). Actually they sell a lot of good food here. They have hot food as well for take out. My favorite is their stuffed tofu with pork, steamed and stuffed bitter melon w/pork, stir fried string beans w/tofu. I also like their salads. So many to choose from if you are not picky. I'm pretty brave to try any food once. Ppl here are very nice and always convince me to try something new and are always successful. It's unlikely for me to say no to food anyway. They only take cash so be prepared to have extra bcs they have wonderful snacks as well, desserts AND....they cater. I really cannot ask for anything more when it's $2.50 for a delicious BBQ pork sandwich. The sandwich is filled with BBQ pork, Asian slaw (pickled daikon, carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and sliced jalapeno) on freshly toasted french roll with some mayo. Seattle Deli is kinda like a subway for Banh Mi, except for much much cheaper! You can customize your sandwich (which for a Vietnamese sandwich is kinda rare.) They make it there, right in front of you while you wait. Their egg rolls are also great! (2 for $1.00). As other reviewers have mentioned, they are cash only. These guys are great, really quick and will answer any questions you have. For $2.50 you get a huge pork Banh Mi. They also have a great selection of beverages and even some candy as well. read more

It's good, but stick to the sandwiches. Grabbed 3 of the special sandwiches with extra pate. Tasty, good amount of meat, and crisp veggies. The bread was decent, could have been a bit softer, but at the same time it wasn't overly hard (except for maybe the ends). Also tried their vietnamese coffee, fresh spring rolls, egg rolls, pork pastry, and meatball stick. The vietnamese coffee was very good and strong, as it should be. The fresh spring rolls were also decent. However, I'd skip the things from the heated window (egg rolls, pork puff pastry, and meatball stick). The egg roll wrapping was too tough and maybe the heating lamps weren't working properly, but these items were all kind of...cold. Cold egg rolls, pork pastry, and meatballs aren't that appetizing. The meatballs were good, but they would've been a lot better if they were served hot. The pork pastry was a butter pastry with basically a giant meatball inside. Pretty good place for a Vietnamese sandwich and other Vietnamese hot and cold deli food. I have to admit that the sandwiches are only good when certain people make it. Some will skimp on the ingredients. They have one of the best and cheapest iced coffees around. Strong, but not too sweet with the added condensed milk. read more

The quality is wildly inconsistent here. Half the times my bbq pork banh mi has come out with horribly dry and over cooked pork, and stale bread. The other times the sandwiches have been what they should be, so I'm not sure what's happening there. The other stuff available that's pre-wrapped has been really hit or miss too; the flavor of the sticky rice was meh, but the shrimp spring rolls were pretty good. If you haven't gotten sandwiches here yet, you need to get in here and order either the bbq pork or the chicken bahn mi sandwich. Flavorful, crunchy, tasty, magic in a french bread sub roll, all for the amazing cost of $2.25 (chicken) or $2.50 (pork). And the spring rolls are delish, and similarly low priced. This sandwich is big enough to feed two if you are a light eater, but heck, go for the whole shebang, and pretend that all the good stuff inside (vegies and such) negates the extra calories! Where else can you pull out a ten spot and feed a family of four with such goodness? Not too many places that I know of. Be forewarned that others know about this place, and if you don't get in early enough, they may have had a run on the pork (most popular), but the chicken makes a nice second choice! We always come here for Viet sandwiches or spring rolls. You gotta make sure you come here when they open or early in the day for fresh sandwiches and other food. My faves are the special and the bbq pork (which ALWAYS runs if you don't get here early enough). They do leave the food out all day so, if you do come later.. you'll have to eat at your own risk. Also, it's cash only. If you forget, you can stop by the Korean grocery store next door to pull some out. read more

I was excited to find that there was an asian deli up north closer to home but my experience here was far from what I expected. The moment I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the smell... and it wasn't a pleasant smell. I can't quite explain it - some sort of a mixture of a bunch of oiliness but it was nauseating and I had to hold my breath. The first thing I noticed were the EGGROLLS. I'm a big eggroll fanatic and am always looking for delis with good eggrolls. They were nicely lined in their bin unlike other places that just toss them in. However, the eggrolls were a FAIL. I was so disappointed. It tasted like one of the eggrolls from a cheap buffet. It was stuffed with mainly cabbage and little meat - and even some of the cabbage was plastic-like and I couldn't even chew them well. Plus, the cabbage tasted old. The only upside to the eggrolls was that it wasnt oily. I also tried the sesame ball which wasn't bad - tasted like everywhere else's. Everyone says that the service is great and the ladies here are nice but my experience couldn't say the same. The ladies were a bit rude and kept looking at me up and down. I could sense some weird tension from them. Wasn't anything major and was the typical sad asian service, but I could've definitely done without it. I probably wont be coming here again. I would rather drive an extra 10 mins and drive down south for some good asian deli food. read more

Sandwiches here are pretty tasty and a good price. The owner and her husband are very nice. The other lady however, very rude, and doesn't understand your order. I had asked for 2 specials and 2 BBQ pork with one BBQ to have no cilantro. I repeated my order twice and she confirmed it. "No cilantro? Ok." got my sandwiches, and the lady said " 2 special, 2 BBQ pork. This one with the X has no cilantro." Walked to the car, doubled checked my order and the one with the X still had cilantro in it but no jalapeño! Unbelievable. I was sorely disappointed by the food from all the great reviews. This is what I had: BBQ Pork Banh Mi-Like eating tough pork jerky and stale bread. Steamed bun-Found an egg shell in the meatball and it killed my appetite. The bun was very wet as well. Triangle steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf-There was a sharp bitter flavor in the meat. Shudder... Sweet drink with beans, jelly, and fruit-was surprisingly tasty. I come here when I feel like to grab something quick/ cheap/ healthy/ and fresh sandwiches. Their pork and special sandwiches are my favorites. The bread is very good and I love the sauce on the special sandwich. Their pork sandwich is hit and miss... the meat could be a little dry sometimes. All of the sandwiches are made to order so expect to wait up to 10 mins if you come during busy hours. The rest of the deli items is up to 50% off if you visit close to closing times. I have tried the spring rolls, egg rolls, and fish balls. Everything is pretty decent but wish they would refrigerate some of the items that contain seafood and meat. The Seattle location was featured on "Seattle's dirtiest restaurant".... however, this place seems pretty clean (at least at the store front). Come and give this place a try if you are looking for very cheap food. read more

I can get banh mi, papaya salad, spring rolls, and one more item here for a little over $11, which is great! The banh mi is really good and the rest of the food is good as well. I'm not too sure about the freshness though. The papaya salad went bad after two days in the fridge without opening the plastic wrap it was sealed in. After seeing the Chinatown's Seattle Deli on Kiro's "Seattle's Dirtiest Restaurant" feature, I can't be too careful. Stale ass bread! Getting ready to go on a hike, so we stopped by super early on Sunday morning to pick up sandwiches. There was fresh bread delivery for the day, they're right on the counter but the lady gave us day old bread anyway, even after we asked. We also asked her to not toast them, she still did. Definitely not a terrible place by any means, but again, I'm gonna go by the stars...meh, I've experienced better. This review is solely on the banh mi and the iced coffee. The sandwich was alright, pretty standard, but nothing special by any means. I usually like my banh mi's bread crispy on the outside and then soft on the inside and it felt just soft all over. Not crispy at all. The insides were decent, with some tasty bbq pork, but I also felt like something was missing. At $2.75, it was a bit spendier than the banh mi's I get in San Jose. The coffee, I actually did not enjoy at all. I understand that the vietnamese ices coffees are normally stronger than normal iced coffees, but this one was way too strong and not enough condensed milk. I wasn't able to sleep at night. I feel a bit bad about just leaving two stars, but I'm just not sure I'd return. Really great food for great prices! Everything is fresh (I came around 1 PM) and the ladies working there are nice :) I enjoyed their desserts a lot (my mom pretty much bought one of each). My favorite is the Che Thai. I also tried the bamboo stir fry with pork and hot & sour soup which was good. They have a lot of snacks and meals you can buy to go, as well as hot food. I went here with a friend on Saturday and we got a couple of sandwiches each (BBQ pork and Chicken). I also went ahead and tried their meatballs. All of this was really tasty. The sandwiches were good, and one of them had a little extra spiciness I don't often get in bahn mi that sent me on a lap around the living room (lots of jalapeño). The price for everything on the menu is incredibly cheap. It saves me a trip to China town when I want some good Viet subs and sides. Just like downtown, when you walk in, you're greeted by a lovely family of flies. The place smells like the equivalent of Abercrombie and Fitch - only the cologne they use is fish sauce. But, whose complaining? Their banh mi is good. I wouldn't say it's better than Saigon's. The sauce they use sort of tastes tuna-ee. However, everything else tasted fresh and the sandwich was full of BBQ pork meat. We also picked vermicelli from the counter. The pork was really tough and dry, and they put way too much lettuce to compensate for the lack of noodles. I didn't expect it to be restaurant quality since they only charged $5 for it. IMO, delicious for $5, without the meat. Egg rolls are bomb, by the way. I could eat 5 of those in 5 minutes. I'll be back. Food is made fast or ready to go. The ladies are nice. After a couple visits to this place, I'm not sure what everyone's beef is. It's about as authentic as it gets, albeit a little cleaner than it probably should be. What it isn't, is Americanized. This place is operated by little Vietnamese women that aren't versed in the customer service you'd expect from Starbucks, but they know how to make some authentic food. I love going to a place that has culture and is a fun break from an otherwise mundane day. Tip #1: Follow Vannak P.'s advice on how to order...and take it to *any* Vietnamese deli style restaurant, because that's pretty much how they work - "Stand up close to the register so they can hear you. I absolutely love the Che Chuoi (banana dessert with a coconut milk, tapioca cream) from this place. For people like me - who can't speak Vietnamese - all you have to say is "banana" and they will bag it up for you. This is one of the most delicious desserts I have recently been introduced to and my addiction to che does not look to be stopping anytime soon. There are not that many decent VM food establishments in the north end so when this place opened a few years ago, I was elated. In the beginning, the food was good and the service was above average. I used to go there often at least once a week. However, over the years, the quality of both the food and the service started deteriorating to the point now that I try not to go there unless I really to. The last time I went there and got the special Banh Mi, I ended up with a stomach problem. When I saw my sandwich being made, I thought about just canceling my order and leave but I was really hungry and stuck with the order. Here is what happened. When I went into the deli, there was no one out in the front. I called out loud for service and a lady came out from the kitchen where she was working. On her hands, she was wearing a old heavily used pair of gloves. Who knows what she was doing in the back with those gloves on her hands. After she came out to the front and while she was waiting for me to decide what to order, she started cleaning the counter using the dirty used rag that was laying on the counter. Then after I made my selection, she went straight over to the sandwich prep place and started making my sandwich. She didn't bother washing her hands or changing the old used gloved she wore to cleaning the counter. As I watched her made my sandwich, I felt like gagging. I grinned as I watched her picked the meat and pickled vegetables to place in my sandwich with the dirty gloves. After paying for the sandwich and leaving the deli, I thought about throwing away the sandwich but I was very hungry and so I took the chance and ate it. BIG mistake and I paid for it that night at home. I just wish this place trains its workers better. I am not sure if the workers don't know any better about proper food preparation or the owners trying to save a few bucks over gloves. Either way, they are putting the publics health at risk. Great little place! I always go here for my Vietnamese cravings. They have pretty great tasting stuff that I never thought I'd find anywhere other than Vietnam! Banh Mi! Quick, cheap, and so good! I usually get the BBQ pork or chicken and I'm always satisfied. Sometimes I'll get the special Banh Mi, but prefer the other two more. Try the spring rolls with shrimp. They are always fresh and cheap. Iced coffee is strong, but really sweet. It's a great summer time treat. The egg rolls are hit and miss depending on how long they have been under the heat lamp. This is one of my favorite places now. Just remember that it is cash only. Enjoy! read more
