Have been coming here for Saltwater taffy since I was a kid. While in town we stopped in on Memorial Day weekend 2020. Bought a pound of taffy with many assorted flavors picked from over 20 bins. Got home and it was so old, stale and flaky we couldn't eat it. Threw it out and felt totally let down. Guess we will have to drive to Cannon beach from now on. Not sure if this place is under new ownership. Very sad. read more

There are a few places to stop and get saltwater taffy but the reviews had us go here. Great selection but the taffy appears pretty old. We opened a few didn't pieces and they were flaking, hard, and or way stickier than any taffy I've ever had. $12 for two lbs down the drain. Yikes. read more

Have been here before, must have been sold out of just about everything last weekend. The candy on the back wall was almost empty, extremely disappointed this was one is the highlights of our trip last time. Very rude service. Brought in my clients and the guy who helped us was very rude and barely acknowledged us. In addition, their advertisement (see picture) says its 1.50 for a cone and he charged us at 2$ each in which he didn't tell us until after he gave us the cone. The Candyman knows how to do business. He is normally found on the corner handing out free salt water taffy and singing. I like to see owner involvement. His operation is one of the largest sweet shops in the area. Seaside is a tourist spot that can really pack them in, and even we locals can't resist some sweets now and then. Great selection of salt water taffy with flavours that will blow your mind and blood glucose readings!!! Tillamook Ice Cream (Pink Bubblegum Rocks!!), candy, hard to find candy products, popcorn, drinks, fine chocolates, you name it...Candyman has it. Great prices too and I dare say the cheapest ice cream cone in town. Spin the wheel and win a prize!! Be served by attentive, patient staff who will put a little extra on top because you are special, and not in the short-bus / hockey helmet kind of way (wink). The Sammy Davis Jr. hit, The Candyman constantly plays here, inside and out. I don't know how the staff listen to it for 8 hours a day without going mad. The Candyman would get all sorts of free publicity if I had to serve Seaside tourists all day while listening to that song on auto-play all shift. How could you not love the Seaside Candyman? It's a part of what makes Seaside. They easily have the largest selection of salt water taffy and there always seem to be a few new flavors every time we come in. I can't resist spinning the prize wheel because at the very least I get a free piece of taffy. They have also added Jelly Belly dispensers and have a good variety of flavors available so you can mix and match. Their ice cream is pretty cheap - 75 cents for a small cake cone, $1.50 for a dish of ice cream. They serve Tillamook ice cream so it's always delicious. The employees are always smiling and cheerful. In the busier summer months, you might catch the Candyman out on the corner across from the arcade singing and handing out taffy. read more

We were going to just run in and grab a couple of pieces of taffy, but every time I turned a corner, there was a different concoction of tastiness to toss in the bag. I think we had about 2 1/2 pounds by the time we hit the cash register. My favorite flavor combo is the black licorice and red cinnamon. Yeah, sounds weird, but tastes great. Kudos first to the staff. It can't be easy listening to the same music all day with a smile on your face welcoming everyone in and telling them to "step right up" to the prize wheel. The aura made it amazing for the kiddo though. Too many taffy flavors to know what to do with, it's easy to buy way too much. Decent selection of jelly beans too and other candies. I didn't get any ice cream but prices for that are half or less than other shops in town so it's worth noting. Makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. A+ read more

I LOVE that you can find saltwater taffy all along the Oregon coast! My family had been in Cannon Beach a couple of days prior to coming here and had purchased and eaten A LOT of good taffy. Then we came to Seaside. This place looks awesome as a banner hanging outside announces that it has 170 flavors of saltwater taffy. We were excited when we walked in and saw that it was $2 less per pound than in Cannon Beach and my kids and I went hog wild buying more taffy. We bought 3lbs of taffy and were SO DISSAPOINTED at how GROSS it all was. You can very rarely even tell what the flavor is supposed to be and so many of them have a weird texture and an oily taste. It's hands down the worst taffy we've ever had. I literally spit out at least 3 out of every 4 pieces i tried and with only 10 pieces left, I gave up and finally threw them away. There is no way locals come here to get taffy because they know better. I feel like this place only survives because tourists have no clue. Do yourself a favor and WAIT FOR CANNON BEACH to get good taffy! (The favorite taffy shop from the group I was with was Schweitzer's Cones and Candy but there is one other candy shop there that is good too) read more

I think the best part about its location is the foyer section that is protected from the weather but still lets sunshine in. My wife and I don't agree on what type of taffy to get, but it has a huge selection from which to choose. The places on the main drag only have a sliver of what the Candyman has. While I like the chance to win candy the yells of step right up was a bit much. read more

It's because of this place that I get tired of salt water taffy, since every darn time I insist on getting a bag with nearly every flavor. I really should limit to a couple flavors next time. Five flavors max. Or ten. It's much more fun to eat taffy when I know what flavor it's supposed to be. You can get a list of all the flavors, with a description to try and figure out what you grabbed from a bag of different flavors, but it's nearly impossible to trace which one it is. Always have to stop here every visit! Taffy selection is amazing! The little one wanted an ice cream so she ordered but the lady helping another customer was just plain rude. I couldn't help but notice how standoffish and upset she was that she was helping a customer. My daughter ordered a small cone and the guy who helped us was energetic, amiable and just plain great with kids. The other customers wanted to know come sizes and said that the one I just ordered was not available, scowling at me and the guy who helped us. I got a craving for butterscotch taffy and the only seller I found online was Seaside Candyman. I noticed the great review ratings and that they were in Oregon and I live in WA so I figured I would get my order well within a week before I moved to new location. I love taffy and have bought it from all sources and this was by far the worst. Practically completely tasteless. I bought a mix of flavors: butterscotch, red licorice, maple, frosting. They were all mixed together in a bag with no reference to which flavor was which. So I tasted them all and seriously could not even tell what they were supposed to be. The red licorice was RED so I could tell which one it was, but it was tasteless. I am an avid candy lover and always eat my daily dose but that taffy wasnt even worth eating and I threw it away. The whole order process left a lot to be desired. I placed the order online (total $18 and $7.20 for expedited 2 day shipping) and there was no email confirmation. So I waited a few days hoping to at least get a shipping confirmation. Didnt get that either. So checked my bank to see if money was taken out and it was. So after 4 days or so I finally called the store to ask about my online order and he said they had not shipped it yet. Unbelievable. He said they would ship it that day and I would get it in 2 days. Still no email shipping tracking or confirmation. Still waiting for delivery hoping it will arrive before I move. Finally 8 days had gone by after my initial order was placed online and I emailed the store asking WHERE IS MY ORDER?? It was delivered that day after I sent the email. So much for paying $7.20 for 2 day shipping. Don't place an order online and think you are going to get it within 3 days. Not even close. read more

Terrible service. I've been to Candyman before in the summer and this time it was appaling. I walked in with my son to get taffy and people were spinning the wheel to get free samples. As soon as my son and I got up to the line, an older lady in the store walks away. Twice we tried getting in line and twice she walked away from us. Didn't even want to acknowledge us. My son was disappointed he couldn't spin the wheel and I was disgusted. I had even packed ourselves a bag of candy ready to pay and that behavior made me drop the bag and walk out of the store. Don't buy taffy here. There's many other places that have better service with a smile. read more

I LOVE salt water taffy...and a place with the most obscene amount of flavors I've ever seen is stop-worthy. It's off the main strip slightly, tucked in to a shabby strip-mall-esque building. Pretty easy to find...just look for the Candyman himself handing out freebies on the corner and head north half a block. Simple retro decor, with some trippy-colored tiles...and rows, and rows, and rows of taffy dispensers. They have other candy as well, but my eyes were pretty glazed over from the cascades of taffy...didn't look at those items. They have a fun wheel too...spin and win a prize. Every spin gets a free taffy, regardless of the Big Win (which I think was like a pound free or something, but I honestly don't remember). We went in a crappy, rainy day, and while Seaside itself was pretty disappointing, at least we got a good stockpile of taffy for the drive down to Cannon Beach. read more

I visited Seaside with my parents back in March, and we found this little candy store! So many flavors of taffy! I loved how friendly the staff were/are, especially the old man who had us step up to the prize wheel. The one flavor I'm not fond of is maple bacon. Leaves a nasty flavor in your mouth. But everything else is fantastic! Not just taffy, either! They have all kinds of different candies, and a great selection of Jelly Bellies! I'll definitely be coming back! read more

I have been coming to Seaside, OR every summer for MANY summers! The Seaside Candyman is a must stop for me! In fact we usually stop daily while we are there. It is the only place in Seaside that I will purchase taffy or ice cream. The atmosphere is awesome, so much fun!! And we're always excited when the candyman is there. Our first stop there this year was on my son's 13th birthday. When we mentioned it, they actually sang to him as they handed him his ice cream cone! SO awesome!!!! read more

Disappointing! It was fun to go through and see all the flavors of salt water taffy. We bought about 30 different flavors and less than half of them had any flavor or even vaguely resembled what they were supposed to be. The salt water taffy purchased at any grocery store is a better quality and flavor. I also bought a small amount of their plain milk chocolate fudge. It was horrible! read more

Our family had searched all over Seaside for a taffy company that was conscientious about nut allergies and cross contamination. The two people working at the shop were amazing. I was first greeted by a very enthusiastic young gentleman who explained that the taffy with nuts on it was created on a completely separate belt than the other taffy and all measures necessary were made to prevent cross-contamination. The second worker was a woman and she was also incredibly kind and reiterated their process to other members of my family. Not only were they extremely mindful of nut allergies but the young gentleman also explained that a lot of people roll their taffy out in flour to keep it from sticking and then that eliminates another group of people that can't enjoy it. We went to the ice cream parlor side of their business and he continued his exceptional service by making sure to wash off the ice cream scoop with each scoop to make sure that there was no cross-contamination.
