Great place if you're looking for an authentic Japanese food. I ordered the udon tempura set. The set comes with 6 piece California roll and a one shrimp tempura . The broth is very tasty doesn't seem like they use a lot of msg. Not bad $11. I also got a drink Calpico it's a Japanese citrusy flavor drink. They also make fresh roll and sashimi when you order. They have sushi chefs that makes sushi right in front of you. They have pre- made rolls you can pick from. With all the different food drink and snacks. It almost feels like a mini Japanese super market. You go up and order they give you a number and you find a seat. I would say they have 14 tables of two. Sea ranch gives you the Japan feel. So not the biggest place but it works. It's street parking you have to pay for. Unless you park 2 blocks down in the neighborhood then it's free. Great place highly recommended!

i absolutely love sea ranch! it's been my go-to for the past few years in evanston, especially when i'm craving sushi or japanese food in general. the food is always delicious (the spicy tornado roll is my favorite) and i love trying the rotating specials they have! my friends and i always default to meeting up here because we love their food and the casual atmosphere. the staff are always very polite and friendly, and ive never felt rushed at a table. a couple times i've ordered curbside pick up or had my order delivered to me in pour, which is also very convenient. if you buy sashimi grade fish, they also offer to cut it up for you, which is really nice! the selection of grocery items like rice, seasonings, snacks, instant ramen, and ice cream, as well as the cute stationery they sell, is another plus. the nearest asian grocery store to my knowledge is hmart in niles, about a 20-30 min drive, so being able to get smaller items at sea ranch in a pinch can save me a trip to hmart. the one thing i will say is that the take out containers are a lot of plastic, though the ones for soup and noodles are reusable. really minor though since i guess with sushi, a paper container doesn't work as well because the rice sticks. all in all, i love this place, and if i could give them more than 5 stars i absolutely would!!

Food: The sashimi combo and seaweed salad were delicious! No complaints at all. Seaweed salad was super fresh, and so was the sushi/sashimi as well. So worth the value for the price! Service: Sushi was so fast! We came at like 5:30 on a weekday, so it wasn't super busy. The cashier was also friendly. Ambiance: I love it, it's like a mini Japanese style mart. Really clean as well, and a lot of yummy Asian things to buy.

Very fresh fish! Excellent sushi rolls and donburi! Complimentary hot tea. No fishy smell when you walk in. Service was prompt and tables turn over quickly even when the place is packed. Street parking wasn't bad.

Decent sushi for reasonable prices. I've been here a handful of time and we once ordered a veggie sushi platter for an event. It was throughly enjoyed by the party

Visited here on a whim Saturday Evening and did a take out order as there was no dining allowed during this time of Covid. I did do the order over the phone ahead of time which was great. By the time we got there there was a line of pick ups and people coming into order. Street parking here is always challenging however it is free on certain holidays Sundays and after a certain time in the evening. The place is small Homie and quaint but the food is very direct and no nonsense. The sushi is pretty simple no nonsense which I appreciate completely. I would consider this a go to for some basics and Staples but definitely not a place if you're looking for something fancy. The price point is fair as well and the portions are decent. I would definitely come back to fulfill a craving and get some good staples.

Good wide menu with items that you don't find at your mainstream japanese restaurant. More like old school Chicago Japanese. (Thinking a blend here of old Ginza and maybe some parts Sunshine.) Maybe only with the departure of those favorites we appreciate more what has stayed on. Appetizer selection is long enough to just get small plates to share. Notables: - ebi snijo (homemade shrimp ball) - hamachi jaw (if you haven't had it) - hirame no cha soba age (fried green tea noodles and whitefish rolled with seaweed) - evokes the old Ginza restaurant for me - octopus sunomono Even after three recent visits without repeat apps, there are still more we haven't had elsewhere to try. Part of the reason for that is - we get entrees too. We've been happy with: - chirashi (curious how the sashimi D differs) - Salmon Bento (D) - so many different things fun to share! - Kuni's Special - gomaee and mixed seafood sunomono, then our choice of sashimi followed by saba - nabe yaki udon is reasonable here at $13 with two tempura shrimp Know there's lots of reviews here, but as long as there is room on weekends for us we're happy to share!

Unfortunately by the time we decided on a restaurant & I arrived there it was already 12:50. I had a doctor appointment in Glenview @ 1:50 so we really didn't have much time. I really liked what I saw at this restaurant. What I saw was large dining space w/high ceilings w/stamped patterned copper ceilings and a very nice dining area w/a cool Asian theme w/very nice Asian wall murals & a great menu selection. I ended up ordering the black garlic ramen which had an excellent rich pork broth with soy base, grilled pork, bamboo shoots, sprouts, green onions, marinated egg, house-made black garlic oil and seaweed. The flavor of this broth was outstanding. The portion size was also generous. My sister ordered some fried oysters & tea. What I ordered I really enjoyed but I was really rushed because of my doctor appointment. HRS has an AYCE for $23.95 for sushi & ramen M-F from 11am - 3pm. The menu selection looks awesome . There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.
