I love this place! I've been to one of these in Chinatown before and was glad to see that there was one in Evanston as well. It was life changing because I could order on a ipad. As the items are submitted I could hear ding ding ding. It was not busy at all on a afternoon Monday in early August. The server was really nice as appetizers came out fast. I think I got a little carried away for the appetizers when those are good I have a good time. My favorite was the yellowtail rolls, they were small and cute and booming with flavor. Really enjoyed the meal and I guess this is my default place now for sushi in the burbs when the urge arises. The restaurant was fairly quiet and spacious before the start of NU school starting so I'm glad I had quick serve sushi. Made the experience most excellent.

Tried this via Ubereats and the quality was delicious! Such a good deal. We got two rolls that were huge and fresh. The black dragon roll had the yummiest unagi on it. The scallop and seared hamachi nigiri were our favorites. The fish to rice ratio was a great deal. We're huge fans! Didn't realize they had a suburban location other than the one in Chinatown.

The all-you-can-eat lunch offer is a hell of a deal if you bring an appetite: $25 for adults and half price for kids. The entire menu is available too--salads, sushi, appetizers. Between my daughter and I, we polished off eight rolls and an order of calamari, so I'd say we got our money's worth. The green dragon roll was my favorite; everything else ranged from good to great. The tempura shrimp roll had a high rice-to-everything-else ratio, so that was a little bland. The electronic ordering system is pretty slick, so you don't have to wait for a server to come around. However, the food sometimes took a while to come out. We ordered three rounds and were there for well over an hour. The space is open and bright; we really enjoyed our time here. This is a unique model (as far as I've seen around here) and I'd gladly come again.

Ordered for delivery. Food was delivered on time and it came fresh. We ordered about 6 different rolls to share along with fried chicken wings. The sushi was satisfying. Even my children enjoyed their rolls. However the wings lack in flavor and I'd skip those. The spicy tuna jalapeño is great too!

What an unassuming little spot. Not going to lie-- i was really skeptical when i saw the place and the vibe. It's clean, but it was just so empty and quiet. Sushi is so easily a hit or miss. Boy was i wrong. I was so shocked at how fresh and very light their apps were. Got the crab rangoon and fried oyster. So fresh, light, crispy, and did not ruin my appetite for the sushi at all. The sushi itself was crazy. The flavor combos seem so heavy but i really need to applaud this spot for their number one quality: the rice ratio. you know how all you can eat places stack on the rice so you get fuller faster, not want to eat more, get sick and bloated, and regret everything in life-- not here. Their rice to fish/filling ratio is so beautiful and tastefully done. You do not get heavy at all and it allows their quality of fish and ingredients to shine so wonderfully. Each bite felt like the first. To the point of i had 4 rounds when usually i can do 1.5-2 rounds then tap out. The fish quality is great, freshness is amazing, service is fast and friendly, and everything was so great. Dreaming of my next trip here !

Have been to the location in Chinatown before but this was my first time here in Evanston. We came in at the tailend of the weekday lunch pricing, ends at 4pm. The only thing that was not available during lunch time was the scallop nigiri, there was a spicy scallop roll for lunch, that was only for dinner time. The service was good and attentive as we were the only group in the restaurant. The ordering is done on an iPad and they get notification dings when the order goes in. You can order as much as you want on the iPad and as many times as you want too. The sushi was fresh and made well, the pieces of fish were very decently sized. A bit much sometimes on the nigiri rice amount, but the rolls were good.

Meh. It was just okay. I was excited because I'd been on a huge sushi kick for the last month. An all-you-can sushi place from Chinatown in Evanston--yes, please! So I went in during lunchtime and got two rolls I knew I would eat: the Fire Dragon Roll and the spicy maki. They were just okay. There was eel sauce on both and most of their rolls, which I am not a fan of. I loved my soup, so I stuck with water. Because most of the better rolls featured eel sauce, I left it at just those two rolls. But for $21, it was not bad. I pay $30 easily at other places for two rolls. Overall, it was not my favorite, but it did the job. I was disappointed that there were not a lot of deep-fried options. The wait staff was friendly but talked aggressively. Don't take it personally. Parking was plentiful, and the vibe inside was lovely. I'm unsure if I'll visit again, but it was a good try for a reasonable price.

The service was super fast, for an all you can eat it's amazing. The sushi is fresh made best dinner I ever had. The environment is super cozy and the waitress was super friendly. I would recommend!

The service was good but the food did take a while to come out. I felt like we were missing some of the items we ordered too. The inside is nice and spacious enough. Street parking only. Overall; I'd come back for their ayce. Pretty reasonably priced.

Service is nice, the boss always smiles to all the customers. Ordering system for food is convenient, menu with all pictures. Restaurant is new, everything looks so clean. We have lunch all you can eat with price $21.99 only. I'm telling you, super reasonable price with 100% full dining restaurant food quality. We had miso soup, lots of appetizers, rolls also dessert. All with only $21.99!!! Amazing !!! Will definitely return

Good wide menu with items that you don't find at your mainstream japanese restaurant. More like old school Chicago Japanese. (Thinking a blend here of old Ginza and maybe some parts Sunshine.) Maybe only with the departure of those favorites we appreciate more what has stayed on. Appetizer selection is long enough to just get small plates to share. Notables: - ebi snijo (homemade shrimp ball) - hamachi jaw (if you haven't had it) - hirame no cha soba age (fried green tea noodles and whitefish rolled with seaweed) - evokes the old Ginza restaurant for me - octopus sunomono Even after three recent visits without repeat apps, there are still more we haven't had elsewhere to try. Part of the reason for that is - we get entrees too. We've been happy with: - chirashi (curious how the sashimi D differs) - Salmon Bento (D) - so many different things fun to share! - Kuni's Special - gomaee and mixed seafood sunomono, then our choice of sashimi followed by saba - nabe yaki udon is reasonable here at $13 with two tempura shrimp Know there's lots of reviews here, but as long as there is room on weekends for us we're happy to share!

My friend loves sushi and claimed this was the best quality sushi he'd had. The place isn't very vegetarian friendly though; they have some veggie rolls, but nothing is a specialty roll so it feels very basic. I ended up getting a side of mushrooms and had that with rice which was good, but of course not the most vegetarian friendly place. However, if you don't care about specialty rolls and just want really good quality sushi, this is DEFINITELY the spot and you won't regret it!

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.

You can grab as much sushi as you want as it passes by, but keep in mind you're charged per plate--and the cost adds up quickly if you come in really hungry. The sushi itself is okay; not bad, but not quite worth the price point in my opinion. Service was a bit lacking. You really have to be patient, particularly when it comes to checkout--it took us about 45 minutes just to close out. That definitely put a damper on the experience. Overall, it's a cool concept and worth trying once for the novelty, but for us it's more of a one-and-done spot rather than a regular go-to. One standout feature was that this was my first time dining at a restaurant with a self-driving robot that delivers specific drinks and items directly to your table. It's really cool and definitely helps Kura stand out. Because of that, you'd expect more server presence for everything else you might need--but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The layout and path of the restaurant are really well designed, and the overall ambience is great. I came with my duvet loved the atmosphere, which made the experience feel fun and memorable despite the service gaps. It comes down to the question of quality. There was nothing that put my intestines into reset mode, but the purge was not more than two days away. Take the Ikura... I've had top-notch caviar that was bone dry (the best), and caviar that was average. The stuff here was covered with a thin white film that appears when it is well past its prime. The same thing can be said for the toro. Ordinarily, this is a beautiful cut of fish that melts in one's mouth. However, the toro here was slimy and chewy. While I can't bring up any more specific examples, the theme of past-prime products was not limited to these two items. Beyond that, I was also underwhelmed by their selection. While it seems vast, most items have either crab stick or tempura-something. Cheap ingredients that I don't enjoy in the slightest, making the menu agreeable to my palate much smaller. With Kura being self-service by design, I am unable to really comment on the service. However, it was helpful in the limited cases when I needed assistance. Final verdict: If it weren't for the dangerously lackluster quality, I might have been open to a return visit. However, given the tragedies the kitchen allowed to make their way onto a plate, it is almost certain I will not stop in again.
