I was lucky enough to be able to revisit the wonderful island of Kauai this year. A SCUBA trip is…read moremandatory (in my opinion) when visiting Hawaii and figured I would dive again at Koloa Landing and also decided to go with Scuba Steve again too. Koloa Landing: This site has such easy shore access that it made no sense to me to go elsewhere and get on a cattle boat with lots of people and also take a chance on getting sea sick. I had that experience on Oahu before and did not want to go through that again. There are so many things to see on this reef (like turtles, dragon and spotted eels, starfish, plus so many different colorful fish and coral). The shallow depth here allows for a couple of nearly one hour 2-tank dives. The visibility was good but not great during our dives - maybe about 45'. Lots of critters + lots of bottom time = great dive! I only wish I had worn a few more pounds of weight. Scuba Steve: SS is professional yet has a great sense of humor, he is simply fun to hang out with. He does an in-depth briefing with photos before the dives to go over all the things that are likely to be seen - which so much better than asking 'what was this and that' after the dive. Scuba Steve was so familiar with the reef it felt like we were getting a personal tour of his reef. He also had chairs and changed out the tanks for us between dives. He also had a fresh water shower to rinse the salt water off after diving. Very satisfied with the entire experience!

However, the weather was not cooperating on either side of the trip.. we got delayed 2 days by the winter storm PAX... then upon arrival to Kauai local storms and flash floods were occurring our first 2 days on the island. Scuba Steve was fantastic adjusting schedules and keeping us posted on the conditions. Needless to say the diving portion of the trip was abbreviated, BUT Steve went out of his way to accommodate us and I got in the Hawaiian Turtle Observer Specialty. (will finish the specialties on the next trip!!!!) VERY accommodating, professional, and Humorous - cannot get a better combination. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Captain Kai was competent, informative, and very funny, as was crewmember Vayden, and Collin's mai tais are not to be missed. The food onboard was delicious and included traditional Hawaiian pulled pork and teriyaki chicken. Scrumptious cookies and bubbly rounded out the evening. Some things to be aware of: This cruise is on a catamaran; some of our party were expecting a small cruise ship that would have been a smoother ride. Waves are bumpy, and the windier parts of the trip resembled a mild roller coaster--if that's not your thing or you know you can experience some motion sickness, please factor that into your decision to book a trip. That being said, one person in our party experienced some light motion sickness and was really well cared for by the crew. We really appreciated their kindness and support. If you have sturdy sea legs and an adventurous spirit, I'd highly recommend this excursion. The views of Kauai from the ocean are worth it alone, but the information from the captain and crew about the island and its culture are also super valuable. The whole experience also felt very safe; the cruise will not go to areas with high wind/surf, and on our trip the captain explained why he was turning out of the wind/waves when he made that decision.

We saw multiple breaches, tail slaps, fluke dives, and surface activity--the whales were active the entire time. The crew positioned the boat so well that we were able to stay in one great viewing spot and still see everything without moving around. The crew was incredibly attentive without being overbearing. Drinks and snacks were always taken care of--Mai Tais, coconut cookies, and snacks kept coming--and it genuinely felt effortless to just relax and enjoy the experience. The team was knowledgeable, calm, and respectful of the whales, offering helpful context without over-talking. The boat was comfortable, well run, and the two-hour length felt just right. If whale watching is on your list in Kauaʻi, Blue Dolphin is an easy recommendation

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and is a must do. If you have experience…read morescuba diving it will definitely help. If you have never scuba dived before but are an experienced snorkeler, it's definitely doable but you'll need to get used to the breathing in and out and using the scuba tank before you can thoroughly enjoy the experience. It took me a few extra to get acclimated to the breathing part. If you're not sure at first, it's okay. Our tour guide, Doug and his team were really patient and walked us through it. Once we got acclimated to it, we spent about 25 to 30 minutes touring and they pointed out fish and certain things to see. We got to see some honu and Doug even took pictures/videos for us with our own underwater camera. They provide all the equipment including water shoes and fins. They even have some corrective masks if you're near sighted which helped.

We were originally a group of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids) but there weren't enough spots available. After booking online, Ryan promptly called to confirm and I explained that we needed 3 more spots. No problem. He added our friends and reached out to them as well to coordinate and didn't even take their payment in advance. About a week before our dive, Ryan called again to explain the upcoming weather (including a couple of big swell days) to see if we could switch days for better conditions. Despite his many other bookings, Ryan went above and beyond to accommodate ALL of us. It was at this time that I mentioned that my 9 year old scuba/snuba obsessed Autistic son wasn't the best swimmer and that he also had gotten a cold which we agreed might compromise his ability to equalize pressure at any depth. Admittedly, both of my kids had colds the week before leaving the mainland and this could have completely compromised our ability to even get to Kauai! Thankfully, our Covid tests all came back negative and we had no travel issues. Sadly, however, my son's congestion didn't much improve and I alerted Ryan by text that he and my wife would likely need to cancel. In the couple of days leading to the dive, I sent another few texts saying that we were going to show up and have my son try to equalize and then rescinded upon better judgment, despite the looming tantrum when we had to officially tell my son he couldn't do the dive. So when all was said and done, our reservation for 7 became a reservation for 4 as my wife, my son and my buddy's wife all had to cancel. And then my 11-year old daughter started getting nervous and threatened to cancel as well. Ryan graciously handled my back and forth calls and texts with professionalism and compassion. The location for the dive at Lawai Beach (Beach House Restaurant) is very easy to find and there is ample free parking directly across the street, either on the street or in a parking lot right there. There's also a public restroom and a neat little snack shack which was perfect for grabbing hotdogs, ice cream and really good shave ice after the dive. We met Ryan and his team at the Snuba Van which was parked right across from the beach and they outfitted us with gear and thoroughly explained the rules of diving to the kiddos and tailored them simply so the kids could understand (my buddy and I are already seasoned scuba divers). My daughter's nerves seemed to ease with Ryan's calm and friendly reassurance that we weren't going too deep or too far and that the mostly enclosed bay was perfectly safe. So in we went...the 4 of us and Ryan and his 2 wonderful assistants which clearly was a great ratio to ensure that our kids were well taken care of while my buddy and I could also enjoy the dive. At the beginning of the dive, my daughter had a tendency to float at the top with the float, dip below for a few breaths only to return to the float. After I mentioned to her that she should stay down, she did just that and we had an amazing 50+ minute dive together. LET ME JUST TELL YOU...diving is a wonderful hobby that takes you to another realm. Diving alongside your 11 year old daughter as she discovers how amazing it is and seeing the nervousness slip away with the current and replaced with fascination and absolute joy is an experience I will remember until the day I die. Ryan and his team were wonderful guides underwater. They had heard that a turtle had been spotted in the area just before our dive but try as they might, it had eluded them. But in the last 5 minutes of the dive, my daughter and I rounded an outcropping of coral to find it hiding underneath! What amazing luck! Ryan and SNUBA Tours of Kauai made for us an absolutely epic adventure. They took care of absolutely everything for us as a solid tour company should and went above and beyond to make everything absolutely perfect. Oh, by the way, Ryan took a bunch of photos of us all throughout the dive. Did he try to sell these to us for some extra dough like so many other tours? NOPE. He texted them to us within hours after the dive. And when I apologized again about all the back and forth with the reservation and the cancelations prior to the dive and mentioned that I understood that I'd be out the money for my wife and son's spots, Ryan very generously and graciously only charged me for me and my daughter. Tip top notch! A++++++++ experience.

Captain Max was incredible--his sense of humor kept us laughing even as the rain and mist rolled in. The two women on the crew (I wish I could remember their names) were fantastic, making sure everyone was comfortable and answering all our questions with a smile. The playlist on board was spot on, setting the perfect vibe. I wish I could find it on Spotify! Despite the weather, the views were breathtaking, and getting a little drenched just added to the adventure. The food was delicious, especially the smoked pork, salad, and fresh fruit, and my husband loved the mai tais. Even without the sunset, the whole experience was magical. After chatting with other travelers, I'm convinced we had one of the best tours available. especially after talking to a couple at our hotel pool who had paid more than we did and only got snacks limited alcohol. I can't recommend Holo Holo Charters enough, and I'm already looking forward to trying their breakfast or snorkel cruise next time. If you're looking for an amazing adventure, this is it!

Since it had been so long, we wanted to do it again. So Tod found this company online and booked it. We are experienced freedivers, so he called ahead of time asking if the captain would be able to visit the Sheraton caverns. Captain said yes if conditions are good! Fast forward to the very next day, we arrive at check in where we met Anna. There was only 1 other guest on our tour, so essentially we had the whole boat to ourselves. Pretty cool! So thankful they didn't cancel on us as I know some boats have to when there is little occupancy. She went over all safety. While waiting, cute neighboring cows came over to say hi. We head down to the ramp and we meet Drew the captain. Anna let Drew know that we are freedivers so he definitely made sure we visited the caverns. It was so full of life, tons of turtles. Clarity was great. So awesome. Then they took us to PK and that location was teaming with life also! Even a turtle cleaning station right next to the boat about 15/20 ft down. So cool! The zodiac boat is definitely a rush, and you will get a little arm workout while holding on. Drew played great music, and Anna gave us some history on a couple spots.
