We had 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10), so rented 2 boards, since the kids couldn't really do much paddling themselves. It worked out perfect. The guy was very helpful to put the boards on the rental car, and they even let you borrow a couple rubber roof racks and straps. Was super easy and super fast. He did ask if we wanted a dry bag, but then never gave it to us. I also forgot about it until we got to the river. Parking at the river was a bit of a pain, but we did find a spot and hit the water. It was a great afternoon in Kauai and so good that there was also a destination to the waterfall. The waterfall was pretty cool, and this was a great excursion at a reasonable price. Give it a try and get a good workout!

You pull your kayak (on wheels) to the launch site and push off from there; it's definitely doable. We opted to go without a guide and simply followed the provided map, which was very straightforward. However, in my opinion, the activity wasn't worth the price. Paddling two miles each way was pretty strenuous, especially with kids. The hike to Secret Falls was extremely muddy, particularly after rain, and we saw lots of people slipping and falling. It's not a huge problem, but you'll definitely want to plan for a shower afterwards. They do provide a large wet bag, but ours smelled strongly of body odor from repeated use without proper cleaning--definitely unpleasant. If I could do it over again, I would have canceled and just explored the state park on foot. For the amount of effort required, I felt the experience was overpriced.

I sprung for two touring boards which turned out to be a good decision. Keylan was very professional and helpful answering all our questions. He showed us an aerial view of the river on his computer screen so we had a visual of where we were going before heading out. He set us up with two 4" x 4" foam "boards" which were placed on the car roof before loading the SUP boards. He provided us with straps to hold the boards securely up there for the very short drive (about five minutes) to the launching spot on the river. The paddle up the river and the hike to t he waterfall was definitely worth the effort. We did that first at Keylan's recommendation, then went to see Fern Grotto. Allow yourself lots of extra time for the return trip as you will be paddling into the wind which can be quite strong in certain areas. We had a great day thanks to Kauai SUP and Kayak. We did the 8am trip and by the time we were leaving the falls and the trail back to the boats was packed. In terms of the level of activity, we are fairly active people but in no way athletic. The other people on our tour we had children and everyone did fine with the trip. It's a few miles of kayaking on calm river waters, then about 1-2 mile walk through the jungle. The walk was all flat but the trail was a bit tricky since there are tons of tree roots.

The guide also offered sticks for walking so definitely grab one as it will help you walk steadily, water bags for your stuff, waters, chips, and lunch once you are at the waterfall.
