Rented a couple paddleboards for a trip down the river. Very easy to find, and the boards were good quality. We had 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10), so rented 2 boards, since the kids couldn't really do much paddling themselves. It worked out perfect. The guy was very helpful to put the boards on the rental car, and they even let you borrow a couple rubber roof racks and straps. Was super easy and super fast. He did ask if we wanted a dry bag, but then never gave it to us. I also forgot about it until we got to the river. Parking at the river was a bit of a pain, but we did find a spot and hit the water. It was a great afternoon in Kauai and so good that there was also a destination to the waterfall. The waterfall was pretty cool, and this was a great excursion at a reasonable price. Such a fun adventure, make sure you wear water shoes but the hike wasn't too bad (only a mile either way) and navigating ourselves was not hard at all. Great experience here! It's super close to the river and the owner showed me how to attach the board to the roof of my car. It was nice equipment and he provided a map and dry bag as well. super fun paddle board tour! the day we went, the weather was absolutely perfect, we did the 7am tour and it wasnt super hot yet, and when we got to the waterfall is wasnt packed in with people. our tour guide mikayla was the best, def ask for her. i will say though, she said we were very lucky with the conditions we had and other days can get up to calf level in mud, so the conditions vary, we just picked a good day i guess. wear shoes you dont mind getting muddy and wet, and bring sunscreen and water and you'll be set. read more

What a great business! We walked in without a reservation, and they were SO busy, but still went out of their way to get us on paddle boards when they definitely did not have to. Both John and AJ were kind, friendly, and so helpful! We took their recommended route down Wailua river to the swimming hole and had a great time. SUP Kauai was by far the highlight of our trip! I highly recommend anyone to do this if they visit Kauai. We called Jon on a Sunday morning and were able to make an appointment for two hours later. He was very helpful and easy to speak with. The price for the paddle boards was $40 per person. It was an amazing deal considering other paddle board rentals I've been to in other cities charge an hourly rate. At SUP Kauai you can use the boards all day if you wanted to! They also provide you with a dry bag and life vest if needed. Jon informed us of a hike that leads to a waterfall toward the end of the river. I definitely think everyone should go to the waterfall if they're physically able to. It was such a beautiful sight and I really felt like I was rejuvenated by Mother Nature! Paddle boarding up the river was pretty easy. It is approximately 30-45 minutes long. The hike was maybe about 2 miles there and back to the waterfall. There are some parts where you have to cross the river or a little stream, but I was able to do the whole hike barefoot. Water shoes might have been helpful but not totally necessary. Once you get to the waterfall, definitely take your time there! Jon told us that Sundays are the best days to go because a lot of the commercial kayak companies are closed so there are less people at the waterfall. He was definitely right! There was only two other couples there with us. Now going back down the river was a bit harder than going up, but it was doable. The wind picks up sometimes, but other than that it was not too bad. Just make sure you had enough water and maybe a snack before you head back! The whole experience was breathtaking and we enjoyed every moment of it. Jonathan was really easy going and made our SUP rental a breeze. I called him the day before to book a time. No problem! My 9 year old son and I met up with him near by to go over any questions, sign waiver, make payments. Then we followed him by car, next street over to Wailua River board dock area. The equipments were great, no nonsense, super simple. He also had dry bags you can borrow for your personal belongings. He also took a picture of me and my son and send the picture by text. So nice! He suggested going on a Sunday because boat rental companies aren't allowed to do business on Wailua river on a Sunday. Other than Smith Family tour boat and occasional locals speed boating up and down the river, it was empty and quiet. We SUPed up and down for about an hour- hour and a half. My son enjoyed collecting drift woods in the river. We just relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful day. Texted Jonathan when we were ready to return the SUP. He told us to just leave the boards right there on the grass and he'll come get it. Hopefully next time we are in Kauai, my son & I will have more endurance and we can take a tour up to the secret falls! Thank you Jonathan for such stress free rental! read more

Jon, what an awesome guy to deal with. Super nice, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Showed up without calling ahead (best to do, he might be running down to the river or giving a tour), he hooked sunup with some good boards, chatted about some places we've paddled back in Canada, told us all about the river, where to go, few tips and things to look for, and sent us on our way. Paddled in to secret falls, then over to a cliff jump/swimming hole, and finally back out to the ocean to try and do some SUP surfing. When we returned to the launch, Jon was already there waiting to load up the boards and we were on our way for much deserved burger and a beer. His place isn't directly on the river, but definitely do not let that stop you. He will run the boards down for you, or load them up on your car if you'd prefer. In turn you will get much better one on one service, meet yet another nice guy on the island, and he will steer you in the right direction...wether it's on the water or where to grab food on land. We had a group of 4, with most of us beginners. I called before we arrived to make sure they had boards available and they said yeah no problem. We walked right into the shop where we were greeted, signed some waivers and paid. Super simple and easy. They explained the lay of the land and gave us a map. We got 3 regular boards and 1 jet powered board(which was great on the way back). We then followed a golf cart across the street where we parked the car and our boards were waiting for us. The views were amazing and the waterfall was awesome. Bring water for the hike and wear some waterproof shoes(I wore Chacos) because it can get muddy on the way to the waterfall and you have to cross some creeks and rivers to get there. Definitely recommend going on a Sunday because it isn't as crowded. Overall 10/10 experience! read more

We had a wonderful time with Stand Up Paddle Kauai! Jon is the best. He really makes you feel welcome. Definitely give him a call and chat on the phone if you're thinking of renting. We got 2 boards for the day. Jon and his team provide everything you need: dry bags, paddle boards, paddles, backpacks, even shoes, plus paddling instruction and directions on how to get to the secret falls. They drive their truck down and load the boards onto the water for you. They say it takes roughly 4.5 hours to paddle out to the secret falls and back. My partner and I made it back in about 3.5 hours... we were really going hard, though, haha. We got a late start (around 2pm) so we wanted to make sure we were back before 6pm, even Jon was really cool about coming back later. It took us about 45 min to paddle down the river to the landing spot, wind at our back, then another 45 min to hike into the secret falls (you have to cross a river and 2 streams by foot. there's a guiding rope at the bigger stream). Then we spent about 30 min at the secret falls, where there were people of all ages enjoying the refreshing water (4 year old kids and 75 year old grandparents!). It was fantastic! Be aware that you'll be paddling against the wind on your way back up the river. We ended up kneeling down on our boards to cut down on the wind. It's definitely a workout on the way back, so be ready to do 45 min of light cardio at the end of your trip. Well worth it, though! Gotta earn that loco moco :) read more

What a Killer Adventure! Planned to go earlier in the week, but had to cancel due to family illness. Booked (4) SUP Boards the day before without any problem. Had some inexperienced PaddleBoarders, but we were determined to make it to the waterfall. 45 min paddle, stored boards at the trail head, hiked another 45 min through slippery soupy mud. But once we arrived at the waterfall, it was well worth it. Our group was smiling from ear to ear during our trip back. Save some energy, wind made the paddle back much more difficult. Couldn't have been happier with our decision to give SUP Kauai our business. They were cordial, and accommodating. Halfway on our paddle on the way out, I realized that I forgot to lock the car. I called Andrew (with SUP Kauai) and asked him if he would lock it for us. And when we returned, our car was locked. Mahalo! read more

Called up and talked with Justin. We were a last second plan, but he was fantastic. He gave us great instructions and we had a blast. Our rental car didn't have a roof rack, but we were able to use some foam in place to transport the boards. Really enjoyed this particular location too: great 1 mile hike to the secret waterfall and a fun 15ft cliff jump into the river at another point. Highly recommend! read more

Great deal, friendly service, John is a laid back guy who runs a good business, no charge for dry pack and loner hiking shoes. We called 2 hours before and got a time slot, no problem. He transports the paddleboards and gives you a brief lesson and with his guidance we came back as experts. My Gf said hardly experts but I disagree. Jonathan went above and beyond and checked out the river to make sure it was safe to paddle that day (thunderstorms the night before), he also met us at the river and transported the boards to and from for us. I have done paddle boarding in Hanalei and I also went to Wailua river (on the east side of Kauai). I am much happier with Wailua river. It is a large calm river that is more like a lake. After about a 45 min paddle we got off our boards and did a hike to a waterfall; Secrete falls. It's a hundred foot waterfall that is short walk up stream. There were other paddlers up there and finding our way was simple. Jon gave us great instructions and made us feel like family. Thanks Jon for a great day :) read more

Jonathan made our Kauai trip so much more fun by renting us paddle boards. It was my first time paddle boarding and Jonathan was an excellent instructor. The river is a great place to try paddle boarding since it is relatively calm. We paddle boarded on the river where it led to a muddy trail, which led to a beautiful stunning waterfall! I would recommend bug spray because there are lots of mosquitos in the forest but the hike is worth swimming under the waterfall. Jonathan made everything easy since it was kind of spur of the moment planning on our part. He even let us borrow shoes since he knew the trail would be a little muddy. There is also not a strict time limit on the paddle boards because it was a flat fee for the day. I would recommend Jonathan's rental services to friends and family who are thinking of trying out paddle boarding in Kauai. read more

Stand Up Paddle Kauai is a well run place to rent SUP boards from! I called them a couple days before flying to Kauai and was helped by a couple gentleman (I've forgotten their names). The first guy who helped me was extremely polite and helpful and I was honestly stunned when a completely different guy the next day was just as polite and helpful. They were having issues sending text messages to my phone that gave me instructions and their address, but they were always patient after I called them numerous times letting them know I wasn't getting the text messages. Ricky helped get me set up on the day of my adventure and since I was solo, even gave me a ride to the river since I didn't rent a car, AND even had time to give me a ride back to my hotel after I was done. We called after being cancelled by a different kayak guide service for the day. So we were already in Kapaa with no reservation at this point my wife called and Jonathan was great he told us come on down I have an opening. We had never tried paddle boarding before and he was very informative on the whole process and where we should go. It is about a 1 1/2 hour paddle to get to the either the waterfall or he jump rock. Definitely easier to get there than to get back. You would think the opposite because of the way the river flows but on the way back you get pushed back a little bit by the wind. Which Jonathan had told us from the start. My 9 year old was able to paddle the whole way there and back but she is also a very athletic and determined young girl. Marty is the man!!! I called (maybe too many times) ranging from an hour before they opened to right when they opened and got no response (no voicemail set up). Out of nowhere I get a call from a random Lihue number and it's Marty from SUP Kauai getting back to me. He tells me the available times, book two boards, and in 1 hr we are meeting him face-to-face. NOTE!!! The place where you drive to is a house and it's marked for kayaking. It's the same place so don't worry. The best thing about this company is after checking in and going over the basics, you drive following Marty to the river access. He then sets up the boards, goes over the basics and then you're on your way. Once you get back, call him up and he's there in a flash to grab the boards and you are away. Super easy, super friendly, and the day itself on the river is relaxing and something well worth doing. read more
